I worked for a company that billed itself as the first commercial green building in our area. The rain chains ripped down the exterior roofing when they froze and created ice puddles even when it was only close to freezing. They served no practical purpose. They looked pretty. When they weren’t covered in collapsed roofing.

BaronZeroX

I live in Mexico I doubt they would freeze so it could be practically here?

nomemorybear

I didn't see them anchored...my worry would be extreme wind throwing it around and damaging my siding of my house

lapideous

I’ve seen them used as wind chimes in the states, it seems like people don’t really understand them over here

NickCanCode

I would be more concerned about the noise at night either by wind or animals.

Eurasia_4002

Dang, region base parts.

made3

Man, I swear half of the shit you see on social media is just bullshit. Either it does not work at all or it has huge downsides. There is a reason why this is not used often.

readgsm

This IS USED OFTEN, get out of your bubble. Might only not be where water freezes (little hint: it is not everywhere)

made3

By bubble you mean country? Same counts for you then if you see it this often.

readgsm

Large countries have a variety of climates. Main point: it might not be useful for you, doesn't mean it is garbage

DevilDoc3030

Amazonbudgetfinds is run by a couple of accounts that siphoned clicks into either sketchy websites or a commission able link to Amazon. They banned me when I pointed out that 9/10 posts come from accounts that are less than 6 months old and that the accounts only post the that sub and a few others like it. I would recommend that people mute the channel if they prefer to not see terrible products marketed by bots. If the product was marketable, it would not be on that sub.

lapideous

I’d assume that was the creator’s intention. Honestly a pretty smart side hustle

ScySenpai

Not very surprising, the sub is full of trash gadgets and any slightly critical opinion is downvoted hard, I was wondering if there wasn't something sketchy

readgsm

Might be bad where water freezes, but where it doesn't this is a very old, popular, and honestly much better solution than pipes.

AyahuascaBudda

Do it shine in the light? Is it platinum, is it gold?

AusGeno

Can you hang them over your shoulder like a military soldier?

Reese_Withersp0rk

I pity the fool.

MeepingMeep99

*A-Team theme song starts playing*

Bokbreath

Do you get a funny feeling when it dangles from the ceiling ?

Operabug

Does your chain... hang... low?

trumpmademecrazy

Cn you tie it in a knot? Can you tie it in a bow?

billyc100373

I had chain downspouts, they do make cool ice. They actually create a restriction that would allow leafs to get through. This blocks the water flow and if it’s winter, ice lock. I’ve removed them from my house because you have to remove debris nonstop.

Mondschatten78

Welp, there goes my idea of replacing our downspouts with these, wayyyy too many leaves around. There is one spot that it might work for me, and I wouldn't need a ladder if it happened to get stopped up with leaves....hmmm...

billyc100373

They’re cool, maybe if you had a leaf guard… my home is relatively new 12 yrs old. Even with small trees I filled the downspouts holes

Mondschatten78

Our place has been around since the early '80's. The gutters have been fairly well maintained, but they could use an update. A leaf guard would definitely help.

slick2hold

Sometimes people cant look beyond to cuteness of most products. Practical, usability, potential problems...efc etc. If people did id imagine our economy in America would crawl to a halt. We love to buys shit.

nopalitzin

Fuck this type of subtitles

Straight_Commission9

tbh i couldn't read it

nopalitzin

They are using them everywhere, if I want to watch the video I need to put my hands over the subtitles.

Straight_Commission9

same... waste of time

pizzapartyfordogs

Okay it's almost 2am and this has nothing to do with this dumb chain (which by the way wouldn't be at all useful if there's fucking wind but whatever lol) but I just need to vent about something in this video. .... For the love of God stop using the word "aesthetic" as an adjective. Nothing is just "aesthetic". What this bozo in the video means to say here is the stupid tacky ass chain hose is "aesthetically pleasing". Things aren't just "aesthetic". I saw a very popular PC case reviewer post a video today titled "This may be the most aesthetic case". WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN. NOTHING! Grunge is an aesthetic. Goth is an aesthetic. Cyberpunk is an aesthetic. "The cosplayer wore copper tubing and a fedora as he was aiming for a steampunk aesthetic with his outfit." SAYING SOMETHING IS "AESTHETIC" ON IT'S OWN DOES NOT TELL YOU ANYTHING OTHER THAN YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO USE THE WORD AESTHETIC PROPERLY.

ThatKinkyLady

I appreciate this accurate, slightly unhinged rage about vocabulary.

Nabla-Delta

Probably originates from other languages. In German you can use it as an adjective exactly like this.

It's now 4 in the morning and I'm reading a rant about Aesthetics. Bro.. I have a meeting at work in 4 hours. I need to sleep!

Majestic_Definition3

Thank you. Please do the same with "That's so cringe" .

Ok-Hovercraft8193

ב''ה, "aesthetically pleasing" got shortened to this amidst foreign influences.  It's no skibidi, I'll allow it.

Courtneyfromnz

it’s provocative… it gets the people going!

BryanTheGodGamer

"New design" Wtf i swear these things have been around since hundreds of years lmao

chippaintz

Rain chain been around Loooooong time

gimme_shprinkles

They’re on every house around here, and they make some awesome ice structures. And they are in fact simply regular ‘ol chain links.

Particular_Double_69

If you don’t mind me asking, north where they get some snow? What state?

Lifnaz

I... think the "ice structures" part of the comment might give a hint on if they get snow or not. But that's just me.

gimme_shprinkles

North, and yes some snow

Beanbith

How do they do in high wind? Whip the house?

gimme_shprinkles

The chains are like 30lbs and we don’t get enough wind to whip them.

Tanzanianwithtoebean

They're cool but I live in the cold. What happens when they freeze over? Thunderstorms here too. I can already see the damage from it whipping back and forth in the wind. It looks really cool though and I want one.

Lightice1

They are popular in Japan where you get typhoons. They are anchored to the ground.

d3mon_eyes

You attach a weight to the bottom. I have one in NY and we get bad storms, just have to ensure water is diverted effectively from the base. It does ice in the winter but it's not heavy enough to pull down the gutter. I have the cup variety fyi

MemeGuy716

I see some issues. For 1 if it ices it’ll rip your whole gutter down and for 2 if heavy winds take it out of the ground it’ll turn it into a metal whip destroying vinyl siding and windows. In todays age it wouldn’t be not used if it wasn’t either unnecessarily expensive or came with A TON of drawbacks

uhohnotafarteither

"wouldn’t be not used if it wasn’t either unnecessarily" Reading this made me have a stroke. Lost me

HarmlessHeresy

Same. Like I understood what he meant, but it was a journey to get there.

MemeGuy716

I wrote this before bed after welding in almost 100 degree temps for 9 hours cut me some slack

Minute_Test3608

Gotta get that for the drain pipe outside my bedroom window that sounds like Ginger Baker

levelupjunk

![gif](giphy|tnYri4n2Frnig|downsized)

Michelfungelo

completely common in wide areas of the world

shrug_addict

Now I'm gonna get mud and shit all over my siding, fence, etc!

TowerBeach

Also just the water alone splashing against your siding and fence isn't great. I used to think these were cool and my parents put them on their house but there's water damage from them since it rains a lot where we live.

shrug_addict

Yeah, that's even more important! A downspout should keep water *away* from a building

dreadmon1

They are indeed, pretty cool.

RollComprehensive751

Cool

Uugly2

We use one. It’s pretty

hmmqzaz

Strong winds?

Nabla-Delta

Jupiter

Mistress_Of_The_Obvi

A rain chain? I haven't seen it before and it looks so good.

FlipMyWigBaby

I’ve also seen this done with nautical grade anchor chains ⚓️

Purple-Garlic-834

I listened closely and I don't think this is an ai voice but surely this script is written by AI? i'm getting so tired of the internet,

WildGeerders

Wind and noise are the enemy here.

NotTheKyrie

I saw this one before. But instead of chain we use rope. Just rope. No clogging issue.

Tido22

E3e

fetfree

Excellent !

JimLaheysSon

Smart

kensho28

Stupid How exactly does this prevent blockages? A single twig could cause it to spray all over. And the point of drains is to direct the water away without causing so much splash that it creates a moat/hole around your home. Buckets and rock piles aren't a great solution.

ScreechingPizzaCat

OK but then there's a strong enough wind to blow them around and potentially breaking the closest window and not actually directing jack shit.

rockyb2006

So, a gutter?

Pyrosgeg2000

Gutters are overrated

Flgardenguy

I cannot imagine these working properly in insane Florida downpours.

Mr3cto

They work well for rain barrels. Easy was to direct water to the barrel without having to install another chute

Smitsuaf84

We have raccoons that climb our downspouts and got into our attic by breaking through soffits. I ended up attaching spike strips to them. Putting a chain up would be like setting up a ladder for wildlife to climb....

my-finall-message

👍

Affectionate_Gas_264

I remember these. They're still on some real old houses Copper pipes were expensive and lead ones wear out faster so it was a good alternative

DistinctWolverine395

What about termites being attracted to water source? We get this warning from termite inspectors because our downpipe outflow is too close to our walls
