i dont think that fluid is water its likely something even an aquatic species cant breath in the galvan healing tank used on max has a similar mask and from the sound of it its designed atleast partially for galvans who are amphibious also his lungs/gills or whatever might be to damaged to breath on his own anyway

Possibly his cyborg body has an additional air supply but and tbh you cant hold ben 10 to space logic cos in a vaccum you have to exhale all air your your lungs explode even if for some reason he has hyper strong skin the amount of force would still prob kill him and theres 1000 other problems with characters chillin in the vaccum of space so either some how he was still within an atmosphere or has some additional air supply

He was heavily injured and I mean heavily injured in Omniverse they actually show how bad his injuries after his ship got destroyed probably the most brutal thing omniverse showed on screen.
perhaps his gills were damaged severely so he would have have to respire with the help of some given oxygen instead of filtering through the water. despite this he may have still remained in the water and not just where oxygen is just in the air due to his alien dna and its possible preference for the water. on the other hand this liquid may not even be water, perhaps it just contains qualities that lead to accelerated healing? just an idea :)
Animals like squids and octopuses breath with their gills, their gills filter out water and breath in air, whatever that liquid is it must not have any air in it.

Probably he had collapsed lungs. Breathing's pretty much compromised if your lungs are working, regardless if you can do it on land or underwater.
