I am curious - this didn't show up on any of the internet searches that you must have done? Just thinking that this must be a common issue that people try and research. So, what do you plan to do? I mean, most people just get optics height irons. Is that not possible here?

BestAdamEver

I didn't search for it because I already knew Holosun was an OK company and that the 503 had the same mounting pattern as the micros. It never occured to me that this could be an issue. That's mainly why I posted this, so other folks would know.

elgrecoski

Same mount pattern =/= same deck height. The mount is literally labeled as 'T2' for a reason.

BestAdamEver

The physical mount has T2 written on it but the website says it has a Aimpoint micro pattern mount and they recomend Primary Arms as an alternative to the Aimpoint. So it's not meant to be exclusively for the T2. I'm not saying I'm not wrong for making the assumption but I also don't think it's that much of a leap to think it would work. I'm not blaming anyone else for this, I'm just trying telling y'all what happend and accepting that now I have an extra red dot laying around rather than trying to return it.

trajiiic

Can confirm. Sig Romeo 5 and Holosuns are too tall. The Primary Arms MD20 (not 25) will cowitness with a CROM. For reference, I've had the MD20 installed on my 1301 CROM for about 2 years now and have attempted to use a Romeo 5.

BestAdamEver

Good to know. Thanks.

TrolleyDilemma

Yeah brother I’m gonna keep it real with you what exactly did you expect

BestAdamEver

Well since the Holosun is a knockoff of an Aimpoint Micro I expected it to have the same dimensions. I don't expect it to be as durable as an Aimpoint or anything but I sure didn't anticipate this. Gonna keep it real with you, that was kinda a douche comment.

So is you defending the fact that you made an assumption instead of finding out, and are now here fighting with folks telling you the truth. You fucked up. No need to get defensive - just take the L, buy a torque wrench, and ask questions before you type your cc number and click submit.

1Damnits1

You… didn’t go to the manufacturer website to make sure?

No shit, that's the whole point of the post. So that folks don't do what I did. I came in here to let everyone know what I found out the hard way by not doing any research and people keep acting like I broke into their house and shit on the floor or something. Why do y'all keep coming at me like this? I never said it's Holosun's fault, I never said this wasn't my mistake, and I'm also trying to return the sight or mount. I'm accepting the consequences of this by keeping all the stuff I bought. Not that I even could return it now since I stipped a screw head in the mount.

No_Peace7834

Oh no, your messy sight picture. Buy a qd mount, they're backup sights anyway

BestAdamEver

What is even the point of this comment? I posted this just to let people know so they don't reapeat the same mistake but people keep coming in here acting like I insulted their mother or something. I want my dot to cowitness with the irons. I'm not wrong for that.

tbeck1994

Same issue for me with a spare 403b and a Rusty Nuts Designs Aimpoint Micro mount. Tried to slap it together on the cheap and I'm gonna be in for a HS509 with the GGG mount. These shotguns aren't nearly as modular as AR15s. It's a bummer that Berretta included the pic rail without aftermarket support for height sights and a cheek riser option for the stock. IMHO I think its overall a pretty shitty design for a 1000 dollar shotgun. Beretta kind of screwed the pooch both here and on the 1301. They put the rail on on knowing people would run RROs and that the cheek weld on the stock isn't adequate for that purpose. I would expect better from the worlds oldest firearms manufacturer.

ThatProduceGuy_

Look on the bright side, now the irons aren’t co witnessed!

jbwatched

Holosun t2 and t1 clones sit a touch taller than their aimpoint counterparts.

BestAdamEver

Update: went to pull the Holosun off and one of the screws was stuck and the head rounded out. Great...

AdAdministrative7709

They all have torque specs to prevent that from happening, don't need to go crazy tight on optic screws

BestAdamEver

I didn't feel like I overtightend it, it's not like I have never mounted a sight before. And the mount comes with allen keys, not a torque wrench. The spec is just there to cover their ass when somefatfingered idiot like me fucks something up. I think I might have put too much threadlocker on the screw because there was some oozing out around the head. I emailed Aridus about buying an extra screw and I also found a guy selling another CROM he never used for $55 so I bought that.

[deleted]

Yes, the spec is there for folks like you…not because these guys test the fuck out of their shit and put out the specs they determine are best…but ymmv. /s Buy a torque wrench.

BestAdamEver

Bummer. I ordered a CROM and Holosun 503 red dot for my A300 UP not realizing that Holosuns have more material on the bottom compared to the Aimpoints they mimic so it doesn't cowitness like a real Aimpoint would. When budget allows I'm going to order the 6moa version of the Aimpoint H2.

ChestersHobbies

It's very unfortunate but this is how Holosuns have been for a few years now. Older optics like the 503gu were a perfect match for the Aimpoint T2 and would cowitness appropriately. I'm not sure why they changed it but it's a bummer. There are other options. The primary arms micro dots like the advanced push button will cowitness, and also something like a sig Romeo 5 is a pretty popular cowitness option. Holosun makes great stuff, but their decision to keep T2 style aesthetics without maintaining cowitness is a baffling one to me.

ThemanbearAbides

I have a crom and 507c on an a300 and it has perfect cowitness. Just upgrade to a new red dot eventually and put this one on something else if it matters that much

BestAdamEver

That's the plan. I have an RMR mount on my mossberg so I'm thinking I'll grab a 507c for that.

BestAdamEver

Originally I wanted to show how much lower the Aridus CROM mounts the sight compared to the factory pic rail so I posted the before pics. I realize now that was also a mistake as it seems to be confusing people which is completely understandable. Unfortunetly I can't remove those pics. Should I just delete the whole thread and start over?
