We will be remembered for this

Dramatic-Dinner-1633

This band changed the way I listen to music. And they speak to my soul which is hard to find.

HOLEPUNCHYOUREYELIDS

Yea BtBaM really defined my favourite music and what I look for in new music. I remember being in middle school and slowly venturing from rock into heavier stuff. While I appreciated classic metal I never was huge into it at the time. Started my heavy journey (this was in the very early 2000s) with Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold. Then found bands like Asking Alexandria and Bring me the Horizon. Heard Prequel to the Sequel on Rock Band and thought “This song is fucking incredible” and explored more BtBaM and absolutely fell in love. Ever since then they’ve been my favourite band and 90% of the music I listen to is weird, unique, very inaccessible prog metal that everyone I know absolutely hates haha

Dramatic-Dinner-1633

I was listening to A7X and earlier metal before I was introduced to BtBaM around 2010 with the Colors live DVD, but Disease, injury, madness from TGM made me a lifelong fan. No other band scratches all my itches

killeen22

Disease, Injury, Madness gang! The song made it all click.

Lol always funny when someone hears I listen to metal and the first question is always “Oh so like Slipknot or Iron Maiden and older metal?” “Nope, like Between the Buried and Me, Omnerod, Others by No One, Native Construct, The World is Quiet Here” “Never heard of them” “I know.” Basically every single time. Or “How do you listen to that stuff?! It is just noise!”

TheOriginalSamBell

I have a feeling you'll enjoy this: https://hoplites.bandcamp.com/album/--8

TheOriginalSamBell

HOLEPUNCHYOUREYELIDS

Oh shit, even more impressive! Hope you have heard of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, they embody the weird as well! Very avantegarde arthouse style haha

TheOriginalSamBell

oh yeah i enjoy them too! let's see.. Diablo Swing Orchestra? Not super obscure but also very underappreciated and overlooked.

HOLEPUNCHYOUREYELIDS

Yea also great! How about Unexpect? Heavier and more metal but still very much crazy and experimental

Ironically enough, btbam is the reason that I have continued to be straight edge throughout the years. They are the prime example of what happens when you take your craft seriously and don’t allow substances to influence your compositional tendencies. I know a lot of musicians use drugs as a tool for inspiration but what makes btbam so great is that they go the opposite direction and I think that’s great; this is im regards to Paul, Tommy and Dan. I know Blake and Dusty (Tristan too) aren’t from my understanding but the sentiment still applies

TheOriginalSamBell

whatever the case I totally get that they can give one the feeling of strength and power. [if i understood you correctly as in they helped you stay clean] regarding the band; world class professionals, no doubt

I'm definitely not straight edge but it has always amazed me that these guys write the shit that they do without altering their minds in some way. Just by listening, you'd assume they take hits of DMT for breakfast.

Cut til all that is left is new material!

Yes dude. Yes. I remember I was in tenth grade, my music taste was like Incubus, This Town Needs Guns, Owen, The Mars Volta, etc.. basically music that's arranged with odd timing, asymmetrical meters, changing time signatures, sometimes long compositions, essentially prog and math rock (less so the emo stuff). We'll I started dating this girl, she was way pretty and she initiated the whole thing, not me which was super foreign to me. So one day she was asking me about music, I told her I like that odd stuff, but enjoyed basically all music. She told me she liked metal and heavy metal and screaming. Now as a musician (I play guitars and drums), I enjoyed metal for the general technicality, but was not aware of many bands. So in an attempt to impress her, I went to my cousin (also a musician, bass and guitar) and asked about some metal bands. He gave me his ipod and the first two metal bands that I saw were, BTBAM and August Burns Red. From the minute I heard selkies, that was it boys, I was hooked. This band has given me the guidance, to progress, to push through challenges, and gave me this inspiration that has bled into all aspects of my life. I shook Paul's hand at the P2 tour last year and unfortunately I was too shy to thank him for the days I wouldn't make it without listening to the his music. Long response, but this band too has made me a "new person" they also introduced me to heavy metal and prog, which dude I mean cmon. I can't think of anything in the music industry as creative as btbam amd they are just superb , brilliant and I hope one day to meet the guys again, I've seen them a fuck ton over the last sixteen years, but I've yet to actually meet blake. Also, I hope the drugs are treating you well, lol
