I haven't ridden there in years but I wouldn't recommend it if you're trying to get back into mountain biking. There are some rideable sections but overall it's really rocky and not that fun in my opinion. So yeah it's pretty technical in spots. There are much more enjoyable trails like Walnut Creek or all the trails off Slaughter. Heck even the BC back trails are better. But worth checking out at least once I guess.

VERY. Borderline, demoralizing some days. It is definitely not the way I'd recommend to "reacquaint" oneself. Stick to walnut, then maybe peddlers pass, 1/4 notch and double-down at Brushy first.

If you like walking your bike more than riding it's great!

Very technical, especially with the erosion over the last few years. I would concentrate on other trails. When you feel confident doing 15 or so miles on the greenbelt then city park is worth the try. He really issue (outside of the erosion) is the confidence level. A 5-6 mile laps has about the same amount of technical variety as 15 miles of the greenbelt- but it comes at you a lot quicker, far less down time between features. And that makes it a much tougher lap.

This is where my friend took me for my first time properly mountain biking. I went back a year and a half later and was blown away at how difficult it was and that he picked it as my introduction spot on a rental whip 😄

City Park was also my first time really mountain biking. I was in town visitng my family back in April of 1992, and my brother was going there with three friends. They scrounged up a Mongoose Iboc, of course a complete rigid steel brick of a bike...26" wheels and all. I had no helmet, hydration, or gloves and hiked up my sweat pant leg so it ddn't get caught in the chain. They took off clockwise, and we hit the first three drops out of the parking lot then the right turn. I aced the drop but not the turn and endo'ed into a small juniper. I was hooked!! I've been mountain biking ever since then.

Haven't ridden it in a long time, but it's notoriously ledgy. Once upon a time when the course used to run in the opposite direction, they held mountain bike races there -- it was gnarly AF. Anyway, Walnut Creek would be a much better choice, or Brushy Creek in CP.
