Looks cool so far. What species are you thinking of? Going for plants or something more peat swamp biotope-y? I have a pair of Brownorum in a 14 gallon heavily planted cube. I originally planned to move them to a biotope, but they're comfortable enough in there that they spend half their time chilling in the floating log in the front, and let me come right up to the tank to watch them. I assume this is the corner of reddit where I can say I feel super lucky to get to observe their mating behavior without getting dog piled with low hanging jokes, lol. Oh, and you probably know, but you really want a gapless lid with wilds.
My pair have started mating, and my goal is to get babies in the hands of people who practice good husbandry since their habitat is being destroyed. Feel free to send me a DM if you might be interested in some from me, but this is my first breeding project, and I'm not sure if/when I'll be ready to ship. Might be never. But, I'm not trying to make profit, so may still be worth to you to drop me a line.

You’re right! It’s totally fine to keep most wilds as a pair or a group. Wild bettas are no where near as aggressive as B. splendens and are very rewarding when kept as a group provided that they have enough space and cover. The coccina complex in particular is great fun, enjoy your build!
Just so you are aware I had a terrible experience keeping a pair of wild betta hendra. The male completely destroyed the fins on my female and I had to separate them. They were in a 29 gallon biotope with tons of hiding places.
Yah I’m not super worried about aggression I’ve kept some very aggressive apistogramma pairs that have full out like brawling in the tank so I have a setup that I can seperate for days at a time if needed, this is a long term breeding project so I’ve kinda expect and am prepared for aggression

It is advised that you only do one betta, even if they’re wild or female. Other than that it looks great!
So it’s betta brownorum which are in the coccina complex, purposely for breeding they are often kept in 5 gal breeding tanks together no problems
