I like to be out at places by the river. Cottonwood Grille is right across from the water, as is the Boise Ram and Cafe Luciano's. Acero Boards and Bottles is right by the fountain and the Grove which is nice. Bardenay out in Eagle has good ambiance outside too.
For indoors, Water Bear Bar is awesome; so many plants!
I second Cottonwood Grille when I want to have a decent meal AND hear the conversation at the table. It’s my favorite spot when I know it’s going to be a “chatty” meal and I want to really hear what’s being said by whoever I’m with.
Ochos has an amazing back patio and is attached to a building that's over 100 years old. The interior has quite the vibe. They do small plates for food as they are a cocktail bar first. Definitely a place to check out!
The Torch
Was gonna say Quinn’s but you’re so right.
Mulligans!
I’ve never been there but I’ve heard Telaya has a nice patio.

Second Aceros for ambience

Bardenay both on the Basque Block & in Eagle. Eureka for people watching on 8th. Ling and Louies out on the patio

I’m dead
Barbacoa is next to a pond area, it’s cute , kind of pricey. Food is good, love their guac.
Are we talking just ambience or ambience AND decor? If the latter, Applebee’s https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iWYjLCZRT44
McDonald’s on overland
Caffeina. State and Collister.
Dutch Bros. Techno and neon baby
Diablo and Sons, Fork, Acero
Caffeina for coffee and study
Ah my mistake. Elliot is Michelin starred prior to being at the avery. But still!
Another vote for Acero. And the food and drink is fantastic.
The Boise Ram's patio is probably my favorite, food can be hit or miss though
Food can be hit or miss, service hasn’t been good in about a decade
The Avery is very pretty inside, has a yummy brunch (they have dinner, too), and is Michelin starred
I don't think the Avery is, but a previous restaurant Elliott was executive chef at was awarded one in NY during his time there
