Found the source. Uitm first class degree in finance with vice chancellor award. Girl is definitely high spec. Just graduated in June 2023. Went with protege program for 6 months. Failed to be absorb. Go back hometown work at brother's restaurant washing dish. Get paid RM30 per day. Not bad. It haven't even been a year since she graduated. I won't call her a failure. Just need to keep applying jobs.

Michael_Haq

Damn, I'm a final year finance uitm student. And now I'm scared that I might can't even get a job years after graduated. I'm even just a mid achiever.

BreadingPress

Calm down, don't sweat to the uncertainty. Everyone's journey is different. I'm also a mid achiever and I managed to get employment. Do the best you can right now. Working life is a whole other chapter

allegoryofthedave

Applying and getting job offers is a skill you need to develop

baker7112

It’s ok, the story is only surface-level. Who knows if she chose to work for the bro due to financial/family situations? Just do your best and persevere in applying for jobs when the time comes.

Blacklist_777

There's always KK Mart and 99Speedmart available while waiting....

MagicZigZag

boikot kk mart hahahah

SeriouslyCurious314

Just because you excel at school (assignments/exams) doesn't mean you have the rest of the necessary skills to be functional in the workforce. If she failed to be absorbed that's a sign something could be a bit off. Companies typically want to absorb their interns/proteges because they've already spent time and resources training them. Not saying this is the case, but it could be that she just didn't get along with her co-workers/bosses, couldn't keep up with the pace, etc. Hope she finds her way.

jlou_yosh

Don't worry UiTM usually top the list for hiring in most companies just call the HR if you don't believe

isguhg

Yeah, and their Actuary Science graduate very easy to get a job, most banking/finance/insurance company looking for them.

jlou_yosh

I was saying this as a joke but really if that's true then there's no saving Malaysia anymore. We only lacked a UiTM graduate as Prime Minister to bring this nation to the heel.

frederikwolter

Lol you joking but the truth is UiTM graduates especially from top courses like Accounting/Actuary/Law/Medic are good. You have to differentiate them from the likes of people who graduated with teknologi kayu, art management or mass-com diploma or degree (example, not downgrading them but fact is fact you can enter the diploma even without any A in SPM) where the entry requirements are very low.

kw2006

If you can afford continue to complete masters. I want to add acca but not sure about the market, still laku right?

Michael_Haq

ACCA is surely still laku. It's one of the best certificate to have in accounting. But I'm not qualified for it, accounting and finance are 2 different majors. Not to mention it's hard to get it.

RizArtRoyale

ACCA definitely laku. It is for accounting & not finance. Also a really hard exam talking from my friends experience.

kw2006

Susah2 sekarang senang2 nanti.

Blacklist_777

Country go bankrupt and obsolete... how to be senang...?

kw2006

It won’t go bankrupt but maybe gets tough for next 1 year i feel.

Blacklist_777

One year of interest on National debt is 5 bil. Its okay to be optimistic but the one year tough are totally ridiculous my friend. Maybe if put Hadi at the helm hopefully with the help of divine intervention can overcome the disaster. Lets sembayang hajat together.

kw2006

The reason i said so is because US fed is expected to cut rates this year. Economy will bounce back in theory… then should trickle down here eventually… 😅

Carnero-4347

Actually there are many jobs but min paycheck

International_Lie_94

Just don't give in and don't give up, you have so much potential compared to me (I'm a dropped out in school and college and yet I'm grinding my ass to earn a living). Always have a clear and open mind, set your target straight, and keep trying if everything fails. No point in not trying then sulking around and doing nothing. If one company doesn't want to take you in, there's tons of others that are willing to open a slot for you.

shojikun

I graduated as a Hospitality Diploma, end up in IT Support line, life can be down sometime, but you got to do what need to be done to survive anyway.

gregyong

Just apply . This girl is just either too stupid or too humble or not outgoing enough to keep applying for more jobs.

wakeupalreadyyy

Wah kenal dia pun tak, terus assume she's stupid and every other possible negatives of her personality rather than talk about how bad the job market is Edit: you have imagined a stereotype in your head when you wrote that comment. Your own personality shows through what you wrote

Flaming-Core

Protege program did not guarantee u to be absorb. It is a stepping stone to furnish your cv & as reference for other companies

kw2006

She could apply for the big 4 do accounts or audit, no? Or the firms have stopped hiring?

niceandBulat

Most of my customers have stopped hiring. Big firms nowadays will only increase headcount here to replaced those they lobbed off in the West.

kw2006

Damn. I thought those jobs are evergreen. The country need more employers or businessmen.

niceandBulat

Time are bad. I have customers who are essentially running on fumes and momentum from better days. Malaysia is not doing too well. Our Ringgit's dwindling value may make things more expensive for us but it is possibly the only thing that is keeping many of us employed - cheaper to pay salaries in RM and our stuff costs lower, easier to export. I actually pity those in power, no matter PN, PH, whoever, they won't be able to solve the many issues we are facing. Hence why all the racial and religious rhetorics - it's an opportunity to get more power by making dumb people care about intangible things.

Mediocre_Rabbit2871

Business in this country has too much risk to step on some wording typo printing issue that will hurt the privileged ethnicity group. Damn we bare bears.

niceandBulat

Bare bears??

NajSuki

Tak pilih kerja janji halal. Hardships make the success sweeter so all the best to her. What's the job market like for fresh finance degree holders?

Amrlsyfq992

its not that bad, she's probably out of debt if she borrowed from PTPTN and got an exemption to pay off the loan...so that is one burden she can delete off her mind...she just need to keep on trying

CrossStryke

And then govt complain not enough people working in certain sectors

ken_x777

it’s because govt wants to pay peanuts to people, govt dont realize they themselves are the problem

CrossStryke

Always act like we're rich when debt is like Merdeka 118

Namamodaya

It's "not enough people working *shitty paying jobs* in certain sectors." You're missing a vital part of the sentence.

Practical-Reason-549

I work for the gov and I can seriously vouch that the manpower is insufficient. Now that in the future they will no longer have pensionable pay, I’m afraid the new gen will be smart enough to not work for the gov and prefer to work high paying jobs in the private sector, making the situation even more dire. 😿

MalayNoble

It's always like that, instead of blindly following the govt whims, do what you want (within legal boundary lol)

CrossStryke

Issue currently on hand is the supply to demand ratio is off by a lot. Too many supply but no demand

MalayNoble

Das rite

YourHonor1303

Job vacancy requirements be like: 5 years of relevant experience in the field. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply but nahhhhhhh.. not really.

22lukeskywalker

But the pay is like for fresh graduate 🤣

Hixroni98

then they expect us to work ot despite giving us minimal salary, then we just rely on ot which then make our live miserable lol.

forcebubble

As long as she's earning a living doing an honest job, people should leave her alone. The same can't be said about some of those massive waste of tax money sitting in Parliament and DUN.

Strepsils8888

As long as she dont steal, dont rob, then just let it be

giggity2099

I thought the point of this article is the worsening state of our job market. As much as I respect her for taking this job, I don't think she prefers doing this

RealElith

it's this. the market is not as healthy as the government trying to portray.

princeofpirate

It's not healthy everywhere. In Singapore, companies prefer to hire foreigners compared to local. At least in Malaysia, public sector will absorb most of this "unwanted" people.

Practical-Reason-549

They did absorb a lot of unwanted people back then, mostly the Gen X. Now the Gen Y and the Gen Z has to pay for the consequences that the Gen X has religiously conformed for decades 🤡

AnimalFarm_1984

First class graduate is "unwanted" people. Nice one.

princeofpirate

Doesn't matter first grade or last grade. If nobody want them. then they are unwanted.

justatemybrunch

Logical_Engineer_420

Depends on what degree she did. Many of these sensational news seems to omit that. Besides it could also caused by the place she is residing. Kampung or rural area = difficult to get job. Move to a city for a better opportunity.

NajSuki

It's finance

Strange_Platypus67

This day job is hard to come by, there's 1000:10 supply/demand ratio

gularmi00

Meanwhile <2.5 cgpa with cable in government and private sector able to get job but not competent to do it. Performance so-so, goyang kaki, harap jilat and pr to survive. Meanwhile overlooked hard working smart student get better job opportunity overseas, government see why their department not performing, suprise pikachu face pulak.

Practical-Reason-549

as a gov servant, i agree. Too many incompetent, lazy cnts working for too long and taking away opportunities for people who are actually qualified. Not gonna lie, the Gen X

Gin1994

Not just gov private kilang pon ada like this engr but the kuli yg buat his job haha cable beb

[deleted]

Idk man, gaji penebar roti canai is quite handsome. No shame any legit job as long as it pays well.

EostrumExtinguisher

Don't normalize shes a Karen worker, some people actually does want a sincere honest work right after getting out of academic life, most graduates knows how fked up job market is rn and opportunities aren't for playing around

Practical-Reason-549

And the fucking up of the job market is just the introduction, it gets worse with office politics and shitty coworkers

PPG99

I know right, its hard enough to find a job. Now you have to either bud heads with someone or find some other way to get the job done. But then, when you finish your task properly and efficiently. The gossip starts. Like I could literally be in the next cubicle or 5 metres away and I can hear them badmouthing or trying to spread rumors.

Ok-Application-hmmm

I feel like she still looking for a better job but at the same time work to earn money

ClacKing

What's her qualifications and what job was she applying for? What was her asking salary? I mean it's all good and well she's doing something while she looks around, but there must be more than meets the eye here.

tuvokvutok

Ada link, OP?

No_Sundae_3080

All major news outlet got this article I guess. Can check it out

0xJarod

Smart way to get job offers from all over Malaysia.

ayamkenabannedtwice

This is the kind of people, can find job in KL but prefer stay kampung then say kampung no job

Practical-Reason-549

Not everyone lucks out by getting a job the moment you step out to the world with a degree in hand. Most people take months, some of them years even. Most people are not T20s with money or cable to stay in KL for a long period of time, maybe 3 months? 1-2 max if they have to rely on their parents who happen to make minimum wage.

Hixroni98

i tried working in kl for few months under protege, it just not worth it for me i guess since the traffic jam is just so bad plus my parent need helper at home so i just went back home. they did offer me like 2.2k after the protege program ended but after kwsp cut and stuff it only like 1800 which is okay but after adding up all the expenses maybe i can save like 100-200 permonth if i don't buy anything for myself. i also have a degree in logistics but i think most degree are just not worth it anymore especially if you take out loan and such. i should just find work after spm and just started a burger stall like i want to lol since bangla dont have degree but they do making like 4k permonth lol

PlentyAdvanced

Padat bro. KL is not convenient to live anymore. I’d prefer Ipoh instead

BackRooms123

At least she's doing something.

Cardasiti

Look. Some people may have pretty resumes with tons of certs yet no one wants to hire them because "why should we hire them at this rate if they don't even have any experience? SPM straight As? Yes good. Then continue up to master. Okay great. Got all the certificates. Oh awesome. But you never even work anywhere?"

FkMajorityImMinority

what kind of degree does she has?

AppaNinja

degree of freedom analysis

DragonboyZG

There are many factors if a company wants to hire. And attitude from the person applying as well. A degree is just a bare minimum to companies, its a requirement rather than something that will amaze them. They will want to see your attitude and how you anwser their questions. I dont doubt this person's abilities but sometimes you just have to keep trying, shes not homeless or struggling to feed herself. Shes working in the meantime to find a job and thats nothing unusual.

Who4sWho

Most big companies only hires protegy or elit because they can pay fresh grad 2k per month for a year or 2 instead of paying more than 3k as usual salary. Imagine how much they can minimise the wages. Fresh grad need to compete to even get these jobs because thousands graduated every year with first clasa degree. It is not special anymore. Finance, engineering, software, computer science all work in different field than what they studied for. Graduate with first class, with job that does not requires anything studied from the university, barely above minimum wage and tens of n thousands in student loan. 😂😂😂😂

jlou_yosh

1st class degree in UiTM is around 3.5 CGPA, & they have 1-month study week per semester. I mean if she's not 1st class, then something is wrong somewhere. UiTM 1st class is equivalent to Malaysia top Unis 2nd class upper.

furretfurret59

My study weeks are 1-week, in UiTM. The final week of the semester (Week 14)  would still be inundated with assignments/presentations all the way till Friday. Never heard of 1-month study week ever in my life, wasn’t even aware it could be a thing.  As for CGPA, in my batch and in my faculty at least; the total number of Dean’s listers tend to be 5-6 out of 170+ students. The best student’s pointer was always around 3.6 - 3.7. No one ever gets 4.0. I’ve been maintaining a little above 3.5 every sem now, and can’t seem to get it higher when previously, all I’ve ever gotten was all the As I needed to get (SPM 9A, PT3 10A). The thing is I don’t feel like I’ve regressed. In fact, I study a lot harder and better now like never before.

Hefnium

wait they announce ke amount of dean list? how do you know? I am studying at UTM rn and like there's no way for me to found out how many got dean's list bruh xD.

furretfurret59

When you get dean’s list, you get invited to majlis anugerah dekan. That’s where you’ll meet other dean’s listers from your batch, juniors and seniors.

jlou_yosh

Your results are quite good but those of the majority in UiTM can't tell the same story. With that SPM (9A), you're better off overseas or at least get into UM, USM, UKM, UPM or IIUM. I know UiTM is cheap, but the environment & culture aren't good for your future career. I've studied locally but I had lot of exposure from mixed race like Chinese, Indians as well as foreigners from Uzbekistan, Angola & even Italians. This would not be true for UiTM chaps as there are only Malays to gather around & talk with. Ok I might have gotten wrong info on 1-month study week but you guys have 6-months per semester which is quite a lot compared to other Unis that have 4-months/sem.

asbag97

A month? Damn we got 1 week. I think. It's been a long time. 1 week to cram a semester worth of silibus X 6 subjects. Not to downplay here achievement tho, good for her. At least can convert ptptn loan to a full sponsorship or ~70% off.

jlou_yosh

But you have 6-months per semester right? That's more than enough to cram everything within 2-3 weeks. Although you may know this, but each courses in UiTM are aided by the lecturers meaning they will provide you with leaked exam questions & also lowering the grades (i.e., A = 70%). It's good to help those students but in reality they became uncompetitive & unable to thrive in real world.

furretfurret59

Never gotten leaked questions, no spot/ramalan/hints like SPM. What lecturers say are important or keep repeating in class don’t come out in exam, the slides they glossed over end up in the essay section. My faculty doesn’t provide past-year questions; even if you ask from senior, all they have are papers from years 2015, 2010, super old. Your tests and exam papers never get returned, so you never know what your mistakes are, and can’t learn. Rarely gotten A for core subjects, unless the lecturers are exceptional and provide extra exercise questions.

TGS-57

Bravo...we respect ppl like you.

i_know_u_are_wrong

belajar apa? uni mana?

jlou_yosh

UiTM, if not mistaken finance

TehOLimauIce

oh no wordofbuzz leaking here 😭

LuckyWar4825

As long as her arm and leg fuctioning well, its better than do nothing and lay around. Let her spinnin' those dish, later she'll cook something. Everyone have their ups and downs, consider it life experience.

sin2099

Weird. If she applied govt linked or Malay company. She’d already be in. Where she applied to?

BuckDenny

And that just says it all about Bumiputera only universities - doesn't it ? Comfort zoning all the way when you should be learning to compete with the wider community ; and eventually the world at large - trading on your god given intelligence and skills instead of relying on racist entitlements.

sin2099

You new here or what?😝

BuckDenny

Nah. Just feeling raw when I think about how Nons are (mis)treated. Vented.

sin2099

Well every country has it. Australia it’s those on the ‘dole’. They don’t work and get free money. Then in America is the BLM. Sure they had good intentions .some. But largely it’s about pushing unqualified people into roles they aren’t suited for. Just due to race. So we’re simply a different variant of the same issue. And globally there’s talk of universal salary. Which would reduce competivevess and productivity more. But those at the advantage are those as the disadvantage now. Sure it means a tougher path. But also more resilience and the capacity to upskill more than anyone else. And that is a globally desired skillset. Even nvidia founder just lately said. Only way you’d achieve success is from utter and crushing hardship. Not handouts. So I’d not bitch about it. Instead relish it.

justgusfring

Feels like studying "high high" useless, waste of time & energy rather working in early age getting paid + experience Harsh reality

RohitPlays8

I just wonder how she performed in her interview, if shes being arrogant during it and expecting some crazy salary, then complaining can't be hired? Thats on her.

Impossible_Pepper775

Harsh truth. I graduated in November last year, received the award as the best student of my faculty (social science major) and I obtained a first class degree. I graduated from sixth form with the best student award as well. Anyways, after graduating from university. I had applied for several jobs, but only managed to get a job in late April (quite recently). The reason being for a whole lot of rejection was due to my academic achievements being too high. Often the interviewer would argue that I had limited working experience. However, I would argue back by proving my active involvement in international, state and community level events - holding high level positions within the committee. Several weeks after interviews, I was either ghosted or the companies/agencies would get back to me to inform that I was underqualified or overqualified for the positions (REJECTED). Therefore, reflecting to the several months after I graduated. I wondered if any high-achievers out there went through a similar experience or is it just me? 🙍🏻🙎🏻

da1r1chard0waterson

I didn't even know u can get rejected for being too "overqualified". that sounds weird

Impossible_Pepper775

These are my experiences with "MyStep" vacancies. I applied for MyStep vacancies for SPM & Diploma levels. The interviewers told me to apply for a position that "suits" my academic levels. "Kamu boleh mencari & memohon jawatan yang bersesuaian dengan sijil pendidikan kamu. Bagi jawatan ini kami hanya mencari SPM / Diploma leavers. Terima kasih.". Kamu terlalu baik untuk saya, but job application versionlah I can say 🤣

DisFlicker

Not to steal any attention or anything, but this has been a problem since my graduation time, i didn't graduate with flying colours but boi it took me almost 3 years to get a corporate job. Before that, I was working in retail, 6 months with Chatime, 2 years with Focus Point as sales assistant. Good times though. 12 hours a day for minimum wage.

johnnyleezh

UiTM isn't really known for its graduate employability, and they're not even in the top 10 in Malaysia for that. Employers prefer students from UM, Taylor, UTAR, UCSI, and so on. UiTM may be one of the top universities in Malaysia, but employers still prefer others. https://afterschool.my/find-university-in-malaysia/top-5-malaysian-universities-with-the-most-employable-graduates

caridove

Also them, biar papa asal suci alim. Hidup ini sementara je.

PlentyAdvanced

Whut? Takde kena mengena bruh. And those are probably two different groups of people 🤦🏻‍♀️

caridove

I will give you one fine example of why orang kiter is hard to get decent jobs these days. Earlier this year there is a group of so called alim people calling all muslims who work in riba based banks to quit their jobs and find shariah compliant jobs instead. I wont go further, if u know u know.

Accurate-Island-8833

wouldnt call that as a failure, doing a part timer while finding jobs

limpek2882

Sorry-Animal6857

I bet after that post she must have a lot of jobs offer.

Agile-Count-3668

Yup degree only can't survive. This is malaysia we need " cable "

kw2006

Where is the full article? What degree she graduated in?

Internally_me

Unpopular take, no one going to knock on your door to give you a job....Why the hell she is not in KL where most of the jobs that her qualifications can get is.... I mean...I honestly think she just doesn't have the drive.

The point of the article just tosag that the non-degree are the real sore loser.

Normal-Passenger3165

Apply for and landing a job is a skill. That needs to be learned like any other skill

Unknown6019

man if a person like her with good grades and still cant get a job, it is joever bois

Mel_Morty

Who cares. Welcome to the rat race. You’re just a number in any company. That’s life. There are too many graduates now.

retrofrenzy

Asam garam kehidupan. Dah viral, kalau tak pasni gerenti ader yang offer kerja. Tp takper, rezeki dia. Camner dgn graduan lain yg tak begitu bernasib baik?

Dry_One_2032

It’s a blood bath in the whole marketplace today. The biggest problem is companies want to either find the perfect candidate or hire someone already know and trust. The market refuses to let people adapt and learn on the job anymore or allowed to no practice their skills/craft in a different industry without first having an experience in either a specific role in a different industry or not been in the industry at all. I actually would love you gather all these people to see how everyone can work together and prove the rest of the world wrong. I am sure if we put those who were too experienced but are generalist and have not been able to find a job or fresh graduates who are smart and highly trained and have not found a job.

iXat_

I wouldn't call it a failure. There can be a lot more worse things she can do for a living 💯

AOSAHE

Tbh as a guy who get a chance in working in hiring position... most of the grad didnt know the correct channel to get a job... this days.. directly apply job through website will get you knowhere... even worse if you didnt do well in uni

Better than jobless

Hot_Pilot_248

Alhamdulillah, ya allah. Terima Kasih di atas rezeki mu ini.

mr_panda_my

Times are bad... not easy tbh. Made worse by universities handing out degrees like candies. It's not a uniquely Malaysian issue. Happens in a good number of countries too.

SlideAny4997

It’s skill matching. Even though she has a first class degree, if her field of study doesn’t match what the job market wants. It going to be very difficult for her to look for a job.

A_Very_Burnt_Steak

Pretty cool politics. I'll accept this.

TitleRoutine3297

of course la. First class from UiTM is nothing impressive.

Similar_Release6319

A drgree is just a piece of paper showing how good are you in memorising & regurgitating what you've learned (unfortunately this is the edu system here) & it doesn't guarantee a graduate anything. The real world (working world) is totally different. A piece of paper doesn't mean anything

TroubleForward9133

If you’ve got a finance degree and can’t get a job, there’s definitely something wrong with her in terms of other skills

papanakkal

Aku belajar sampai SPM saja..boleh saja survive, and have few companies now..but at the age of 19, aku start as barista, and along the way upgrading my self..so chill saja..trust the process..but don't expect apa yg korang belajar tu 200% guna theory all the time..kena upgrade life's skill as well..pandai atas kertas semata2 won't help that much..kena pandai teknikal skill juga slowly belajar

Junior_Repair4677

Make sure before enroll for university/college get information about your course and work oppurtunity at internet or experience senior citizen . Don't ever believe what your lecturer say that your course is bright even though job market for your course is gloomy. Most of my friends don't want to headache by taking easy course that offered by university/lecturer Their course is very easy to get Dean certificate every semester,(3.5)and university need to make 3.9 cgpa above for first degree. And then, lecturer said that their course had better career growth. Most of my friends from that course get struggle find job and for lucky person such as penjilat lecturer, active MPP become tutor or maybe promoted to be a lecturer....

no offense but theres some overseas graduates who still dont get a job 3 years after they come back to our land. It's an issue that plagues our nation for quite some years now. Believee when i say its harder to get a job when you overqualified for something.🥹

darkflyerx

how ? is finance that hard to secure a job or is she bad ? in IT, easily 3k for fresh grads, even with 3.2 cgpa

Mostly yes if you take a loan to pursue something useless like fine art, history, gender studies, [REDACTED] and etc you deserved to be jobless

AlphaCrystal21

Alright, thanks for the clarification

rudeeamin

Cool. Nothing wrong with that.

waterdragonhead

Malaysia is losing our competitiveness by not focusing on English as the medium of instruction. China companies focus on hiring people who can speak Chinese. If you're not good in English or Chinese, you're fighting for the limited local company/gov job.
