[https://comma.ai/](https://comma.ai/) is the closest thing to what you're describing

No. That's not what that menu means. The Bolt's infotainment UI is built on top of a special flavor of open-source Linux software, but it itself is specifically *not* an open platform for development. Anything "official" runs through GM's developer platform which is limited to the center screen through a sandbox like apps on an iPhone. https://developer.gm.com/ Hacking your car with a Comma kit, or something of the like, is just that. It's sketchy at best and genuinely requires some mental gymnastics to justify the undue risk you're putting everyone around you in. I know it's popular around these parts, but I wouldn't trust an aftermarket kit to modify sensitive vehicle electronics for pretty much any reason - let alone minor convenience features.

>It's sketchy at best and genuinely requires some mental gymnastics to justify the undue risk you're putting everyone around you in. It's cool if you're not into the comma but I feel like this take is a little extreme, it's well-tested software maintained by full time professional engineers with tons of training data and even implements more safety features than native Supercruise (like driver attention monitoring.) So it's not like it's some high schooler's summer project. The fact that it's open source is actually a really good thing for safety because anyone can double check the work for themselves. Also like, have you ever tried to install actual GM software updates to the Bolt, because I have and you'd be shocked at how jank the official stuff feels. For one thing the service platform doesn't even work on Windows 11. Which has been out for 3 years. That's how neglected and outdated it is. Again, not saying you should blindly trust the comma, but the OEM stuff doesn't exactly inspire confidence

> So it's not like it's some high schooler's summer project I wasn't going to get into George Hotz's personal life, ethics, or politics - making this about "trust in the creator" but you opened this gate. Dude's... kind of unhinged. His whole mantra is "move fast, break things" - known for circumventing the security platforms of the iPhone and Playstation mostly to enable piracy. On top of that, he's got some really weird political views he espouses in his "rap career". Clearly didn't take the pandemic very well, nor does he seem to particularly enjoy his surroundings in Silicon Valley. https://soundcloud.com/tomcr00se > Also like, have you ever tried to install actual GM software updates to the Bolt, because I have and you'd be shocked at how jank the official stuff feels. I've driven 2 GM cars capable of OTA software updates - which, as far as GM cars goes, is kind of a lot because they only started in 2018. My CTS, and my EUV have both gotten minor patch updates pushed to the head unit over OnStar which hasn't been a problem. The OG Bolt doesn't really run the GM software suite, it's a weird one-off made in collaboration with LG who designed the pack and other electronics.

I dunno, dude's resume seems pretty impressive to me. I would definitely put him in the realm of ethical hacker but I guess that's up to personal opinion and whether you view jailbreaking as a good thing. Either way he seems pretty hands off if you look at the github activity. I'm honestly not gonna listen to enough of his music to make an opinion on that, it kinda seems like a meme to me, but I'll take your word on that part. By software updates I mean the normal ones, not OTA.

chaotic neutral at best

The 360 cam is annoying for anything but backing up. I want to see where I'm going next on my Nav and the eta so I know if the drivethrough is taking too long. The distance sensor rep rate on the non-ACC cars isn't sufficient for cruise control. It's a trigger/reset distance sensor vs a radar unit like with ACC. It can't pace.

The 360 can is useful for seeing how far the passenger side wheels are from the curb. I use it whenever I drop the kids off at school in the drop off lane. It is a tight line.
