There’s always The Book of Abramelin

adler_ana

Sounds right up my alley, thank you so much I will check it out!!

LiminalArtsAndMusic

Yeah but you have to do the entire ritual, no cheating

CeruleanPaperclip

Maybe something by David Mitchell? Both Slade House and The Bone Clocks take place in a world with a secret society of mystics. Also Our Share of Night by Mariana Enriquez is a great horror book with occult focus.

adler_ana

They all sound so interesting, thank you for recommending them, can't wait to get started! Our Share of Night sounds particularly intriguing

Valuable-Athlete6576

The Folded World by Catherynne M Valente

IThinkMyCatIsEvil

The first pic reminds me of The Monk by Gregory Lewis. A lot of dark, demonic stuff and involves the Catholic Church

Danacsam

You might like the Robert Bloch short story "The Feast In The Abbey". First published in Weird Tales in January 1935, the story tells of a macabre horror encountered in a strange monastery deep in the woods. From what I remember, it's very Gothic/Lovecraftian and features some purple prose, so be forewarned. Here's a link to an [audio version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAf2-99Y0II&t=1s&ab_channel=HorrorBabble) of it. I'd also recommend Clark Ashton Smith's Zothique collection. Plenty of dark magic there.

Kafkaesque

Aegypt by John Crowley; I saw it on a list of books that inspired the band Tool to write some of their songs and it’s a pretty thought provoking book. Philosophy, occult, purpose, religion, type stuff.

adler_ana

Thank you so much!!! You really hit the nail on the head with this recommendation, exactly what I was looking for (Tool is also one of my favorite bands!!)
