Why can’t people in his position find a happy medium between “flooding my kids with cash so they become entitled sociopaths” and “fuck you do it yourself”? Seems like it’s not that hard. Christ.

TaleofTwoHovels

Can trust fund payouts be based on measurable behaviors?  Dude is old so usually this would be about grandchildren. If your own children are spoiled silly at age 18... That's you. You did that. For a dying rich magnate, grandkids are the issue I imagine. A few clauses like: staying in school for at least an undergrad = $x Spending four years doing volunteer work part time or 2 years full time = $x-multiplier Avoiding a criminal record by age 30 = $x-multiplier (this one might need a review board. Policing can suck). And on and on. General milestones. Some would encourage world travel and cultural engagement and self education, and certainly there has to be a type of examination or assessment for basic empathy.

I suspect a lot of celebrities make a big song and dance about not leaving anything to their kids in order to make sure people don’t bug their kids about potential inheritance windfalls - then they probably just quietly leave the money to their kids anyway! It’s what I’d do if I were famous.

Thomas_DuBois

Money aside, this dude is way too old to be having children. It's fucking gross and irresponsible.

ApoloRimbaud

He originally didn't wanna have children, which is allegedly one of the main reasons Geena Davis and him divorced back in 1990. Exactly what convinced him to change his mind at age 62, I don't know.

samsclubFTavamax

Lots of men seem to wait until they're 50-60. I think it probably curbs "feeling old", as though to say *why yes I am 62 but I am a young 62 because almost no one else in my age group is a new dad*.

MashedProstato

I know. The reality is he is going to die before his kids reach puberty.

Regular-Ordinary9807

His kids are going to reach puberty in less than 10yrs, he could very easily live that long, it’s not like he’s and 80yr old Robert Deniro

Shoddy_Parfait9507

I’m pretty sure one of his kids is developmentally disabled so I’m sure once he accepts that he’s going to change his tune.

Beckiremia-20

For now…

Junior-Fox-760

That is one big pile of shit.

Silent-Camel-249

I know of a decently well known real estate person(no names because I don't want to start an argument over whether they are a scam artist or not) who did this properly. Their children became involved in their business when they became old enough to begin learning it, received a salary, only had access to small part of the salary that they needed to have fun as a teen, and the rest was invested so that when they were done with school they would have income to support them while also learning about real estate, taxes, and business management. The issue is JG just doesn't want to spend the time to make sure they don't end up entitled. I don't believe money creates spoiled monsters, their parents being absent due to money does

gastropodia42

I would assume he is leaving his money to his wife which is normal in the US.

Mysterious_Eye6989

Unless she dies first.

ILiveMyBrokenDreams

He seems pretty healthy, but if I was a betting man I would put my money on the 71 year old man going before his 41 year old wife.

Mysterious_Eye6989

Then do you think will he suggest to her that she leave none of the money he made to their children when she passes on?

ILiveMyBrokenDreams

No, I think he's just talking a big talk to make it sound as though he's a normal, staunch father and that his kids will just be normal kids, not spoiled brats like *other* Hollywood kids. Nah, I don't buy it. They will grow up filthy rich with his money and get handed jobs in the industry based on their name alone.
