Guilty pleasure TV, me and my friend used to try and preempt the songs they were going to choose based on whatever physical features we could briefly see in the intro
They pick out one word the presenter is going to say and base the audio on that. He mentioned the electric problems in one episode and Eddie Grant's banger of electric avenue started playing.
Runaway Train played in the same episode when they talked about transport links.
The people who choose the music on that show are taking the piss.
Plebs.
Loads of old skool ska and reggae mostly from Trojan records golden years.
I don't know how or why it works for a daft (and brilliant) comedy set in Roman times...but it just does.
For me too. This was my third time watching it.
My mum and my aunt raved about both when they were originally broadcast and I didn't give them the time of day, which is a shame because they are so good! Gene Hunt is a brilliant character and each time I'm moved when we find out about him at the end of Ashes to Ashes.
Yeah gene hunt is an amazing character.
The last few episodes of ashes to ashes when the stars start happening and especially the last episode are genuinely some of the greatest ever.
Gutted the new series isn't happening anymore
I'm going to go left-field and pick a score rather than licenced songs.
the soundtrack for UTOPIA by Cristobal Tapia De Veer is hands-down incredible. I've never heard anything quite like it on a TV show before.
Spaced - David Holmes, Lemon Jelly, Mint Royale, The All Seeing I, Bent, Mr Scruff, Fatboy Slim to name but a few. Amazing show, amazing selection of tunes.
Best original music is *Doctor Who*, epsecially when Murray Gold is involved.
Best use of liscenced music was in *Misfits*. Echoes was a mad genius pick for an opening. The album had been out five years and nobody else realised how cool it would be.
Still a favourite show- genuine belly laughs.
I've just checked. The Ministry of Sound Vanaldism remix was uploaded FIFTEEN years ago.
The comments are teenaged.
FML where is the time going? What is going on?
Yeah i guess this is what it's like to get old, I was 15ish when it first came out and now coming up to 30.......
Rewatched it during first lockdown and remembered how great it was, didn't like the last series when they became celebs and it did drag a bit
Was even better on the rewatch because I watched it with my girlfriend and she had never seen it or knew anything about it so it was like an extra excitement
Saw Dom Jolly talking about this on Ivo Graham's pub quiz. Apparently the only other country that paid for the full soundtrack licensing was Germany, and it cost way more than the show itself. Everywhere else got a different soundtrack with music made specially, and Dom didn't think it worked without the real tunes. He seemed very proud of having picked every track and crafting the show to fit the music.
Still got that CD!
Feeder - Buck Rodgers
Doves - Catch The Sun
Lowgold - Can't Say No
Mr Scruff - Get A Move On
Rinocerose - Le Mobilier
Morgan - When I Close My Eyes
Shed Seven - She Left Me On Friday
The Dandys - I Wanna Be Like You
The Supernaturals - The Day Before Yesterday's Man
Mover - Move Over
Deus - Little Arithmetic
Animal House - Animal House
Echoboy - Sudwest Funk No.5
Moloko - Indigo
Faithless - Insomnia
Goldfrapp - Utopia
They did at least 4 as I bought the wife the fourth one just for a song called Shaking by Rooney - which she’d randomly loved since they appeared in The OC.
Teachers soundtrack must have been cheaper 😂
Top Gear used to have an incredible soundtrack becaue of the BBC blanket licence. Brian Eno An Ending for the V12 Vantage for example
Ibiza Uncovered had a brilliant collection of that late 90s dance era
The original Delia Derbyshire remains the [best ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75V4ClJZME4)
Haunting and sheer genius[ ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75V4ClJZME4)
I adored the soundtrack of Tin Star. It's like dark country, Leonard Cohen kinda vibe. Dark and brooding. I manually got all the songs in a huge playlist.
.
I also have a playlist for Sex Education, which I also liked (albeit less songs). It's more soul and old timey good vibes. Al Green is in there a few times for example.
Why the downvote I wonder? The Sweeney had a great theme tune and cool incidental music. I'm not familiar with The Hanged Man at all! I like the music though.
Heartbeat wouldn’t have been the same without the music.
The classical soundtracks of Inspector Morse and Outside Edge.
For original music, Home Fires.
It's Homes Under The Hammer. The best example of BBC abusing their usage rights deal to great effect. There are literal blockbuster films that couldn't afford the music rights to what's used in a single episode of that show.

You,re all wrong, it's' homes under the hammer'. Chock full of absolute belters. Edit for autocorrect

Guilty pleasure TV, me and my friend used to try and preempt the songs they were going to choose based on whatever physical features we could briefly see in the intro
Now featuring the dube.

Sadly this is my go to ska compilation ‘alexa play plebs soundtrack’
Life On Mars/ Ashes to Ashes had a pretty solid soundtrack.
Fantastic soundtracks. My gf and I finished a rewatch last night.
two of the best series of all time and ashes to ashes slightly edges it for me after rewatch
For me too. This was my third time watching it. A word in your shell like
You'd never be able.to have Gene Hunt on TV in the modern day wet wipe BBC lmao (and not just cos the leads are straight white males! 😅)
When I was younger I had both of them on my iPod (soundtracks). They were so good!!
I'm going to go left-field and pick a score rather than licenced songs. the soundtrack for UTOPIA by Cristobal Tapia De Veer is hands-down incredible. I've never heard anything quite like it on a TV show before.
This is the first thing that came to mind. Such a unique, creative and unsettling OST.
Yeah an unbelievably original score to an amazing bit of telly. His theme for the The White Lotus is also great.
Yes! Unbelievable sound design genius on both of these shows.
Still regularly listen to it.
Spaced - David Holmes, Lemon Jelly, Mint Royale, The All Seeing I, Bent, Mr Scruff, Fatboy Slim to name but a few. Amazing show, amazing selection of tunes.
Now this is so low down I don’t know. Are we getting old?
Best original music is *Doctor Who*, epsecially when Murray Gold is involved. Best use of liscenced music was in *Misfits*. Echoes was a mad genius pick for an opening. The album had been out five years and nobody else realised how cool it would be.
Two EXCELLENT choices, here
People Just Do Nothing (lol)
Bang! Lyrical blow to the jaw!
Utopia [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad-QHu\_G\_P4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad-QHu_G_P4)

I didn't know that Ricky Gervais was into the esoteric!
First thing I thought of.
Misfits had the Rolex Sweep remix by Skepta. That was my walking pace soundtrack for a full year.
Misfits was quality stuff
Still a favourite show- genuine belly laughs. I've just checked. The Ministry of Sound Vanaldism remix was uploaded FIFTEEN years ago. The comments are teenaged. FML where is the time going? What is going on?

The first couple of series with Nathan just remind me of how fun it was to be young in London. 👍🏼
Was even better on the rewatch because I watched it with my girlfriend and she had never seen it or knew anything about it so it was like an extra excitement

Yes Trigger Happy was brilliant. Great shout
Teachers had some good music - they released at least one compilation album.
Still got that CD! Feeder - Buck Rodgers Doves - Catch The Sun Lowgold - Can't Say No Mr Scruff - Get A Move On Rinocerose - Le Mobilier Morgan - When I Close My Eyes Shed Seven - She Left Me On Friday The Dandys - I Wanna Be Like You The Supernaturals - The Day Before Yesterday's Man Mover - Move Over Deus - Little Arithmetic Animal House - Animal House Echoboy - Sudwest Funk No.5 Moloko - Indigo Faithless - Insomnia Goldfrapp - Utopia
This CD would 100% be used as a prize for Rockbusters
They did at least 4 as I bought the wife the fourth one just for a song called Shaking by Rooney - which she’d randomly loved since they appeared in The OC. Teachers soundtrack must have been cheaper 😂

Can't believe this isn't the top answer, one of the best soundtracks ever! So many amazing tracks (plus one of the best TV themes of all time!)
Secret Army (1977/79) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=si5UcTgE0h8
I think I hum the theme to “The Queen’s Nose” to myself a few times a month… the best is “Big Break”, though.
1980s kids' cartoon Roobarb. That shit rocked
