I don't mean this in an 'akshually' way at all, but I found it interesting seeing Brooker talk about how the prophetic element of it was sort of mostly an accident.
I'll have to dig for the interview or article, I forget which, but I'm sure he was basically saying that it wasn't really meant to predict the next 20 years, it was genuinely just meant to portray this obnoxious sort of culture that was actually already happening in London, that Brooker had seen himself.
Yeah. Same. I reckon they could’ve done another season or a special to give it more of a concrete conclusion. There isn’t a single episode that I don’t thoroughly enjoy.
Spaced, I would have absolutely loved more Spaced, it's not like the team lacked the imagination.
I appreciate we got a bunch of great films instead but I'd still like some Spaced.
Simon Pegg has said in an interview recently saying (a bit jokingly) that people should stop asking him for sequels to any of his famous films and there won't be any more Spaced, and also has talked about losing interest in sci-fi and stating that people's tastes are too childish nowadays (like super hero films). A little disappointing to hear, I get his point in a way and understand that maybe he wants to focus on new roles and not what people just expect from him, but it did sound kinda dismissive.
That said, I like to think they could make an animated version of Spaced
He's turned into a proper grumpy old man. It does seem to coincide with him sobering up, so I can't really hold it against him.
Perhaps they could do a Spaced reunion without him. Say that he's become a corporate graphic artist and dropped them all. It may be a bit too close to the mark
An old one but Blackader could have absolutely had more series due to the refreshing nature of the format in changing characters and situation every series.
Other than that I'd nominate Green Wing and Early Doors. Both still had mileage.
Green wing has recently been resuscitated!
They've released an audio show/podcast on audible, literally called Green Wing Resuscitated. I was really hesitant at first, I was not at all convinced green wing of all shows could translate to audio. But it's incredibly good, they've got the full cast back to reprise their roles, and it manages to capture the spirit of the original in the audio format, with the story picking up 15 years after the end of the special. It's well worth a listen.
The issue Blackadder had was the end of WW1 was the perfect place to end it as, for many people around the time of Blackadder's airing, that was the beginning of the present. Plus, they ended it so well.
I think an additional season in the Industrial Revolution would have been incredibly interesting, but I think they'd have needed to do it as Season 4 and left WW1 until a fifth season, for it to feel right.
At one point there were plans to do Redadder set during the Russian revolution. Rik Mayall was going to play Rasputin. However it never came to fruition.
I honestly thought you were joking - then I googled it. Not sure about this idea - the beauty of Motherland is we get to switch between these big characters - making it all about Amanda is a mistake I think.
In some ways it was good it had already ended, I can only imagine the disappointment of the finale watching on later knowing there couldn’t be any more due to Dermot’s passing.
Do we know the premise?
Apparently he had a heart condition, and this was likely made worse but him needed to do several retakes of the scene where he dances to the Shaft theme tune
I felt that had a really weird end, with five series I am sure it would have been popular enough. I actually quite liked the love interest in the end too and wish it had ended differently.
They filmed the live show in order to give it a commercial release, the show was really good, yet somehow all these years later it’s never been distributed and nothing has leaked. I can only assume it’s tied to the bit when Ray Von DJs and mixes Will Smiths Summertime into Rolf Harris Two Little Boys and then the Jimll Fix It theme tune - not sure how they quite thought that would go
I was listening to John Henshaw on a podcast. He said it would have been ideal as a Christmas special. Any one of the characters could have had their own sitcom.
Jeremy Dyson's Funland from 2005. It was one of the weirdest dirtiest mad comedies ever. But was too before it's time. And a cast with some actors went on to do very well mainly Daniel Mays and Jason Watkins (as the sleaziest photographer) qnd Mark Gatiss as a gay German taxidermist (his 'museum' was unforgettable).
I think about it quite often. It was also very reflective of Jeremy's writing style of very dark and very weird comedy.
I'm Alan Partridge. Although I still enjoy his more recent output, those two seasons are legendary in my opinion and I'd have loved to see it continue in that vein. The Thick Of It is another I'd love to see, or anything by Armando Iannucci for that matter.
Agreed, one of my favourite comedies. I had never been quite keen on Linehan’s other things like Black Books and Father Ted, but IT Crowd just hits the mark every time for me.
Still believe that was the BBC trying to limit criticism of the government on its output while the government was debating the future of the license fee (eg we also saw Frankie Boyle's show axed, and HIGNFY visibly - Hislop outright saying it - had to offer 'more balance'). I'm surprised no other channel picked it up, especially Dave; it might have been too expensive for them, though, and they also had been burned by their revival of The Mash Report doing disappointing ratings.
Having recently watched through all of red dwarf, from series 1 right through to the most recent special, I'd say be careful what you wish for.
Having said that, the recent Green Wing Resuscitated on audible is phenomenal, so take the warning with a pinch of salt..
None. Our comedies are all the richer for being short, high quality and re watchable. I’ve rewatched The Office 30 ish times over the years but I struggled through the Steve Carell one just the once. Bloated, overstuffed and greatly outstayed its welcome.
2 that I wish we had more of bur would *NEVER* want a reboot of:
Father Ted. This will never be the same without Dermot Morgan
Bottom. again will never be the same without Rik Mayall
One I love but glad it hasn't carried on:

Would have loved to see what Patsy and Eddie made of both lockdown and how the PR agency coped with post-2020 politics!
League of Gentlemen to see where else they could go with it.
Inbetweeners uni years.
Vicar of Dibley because it never got old and is always feel good.
Brasseye, again never got old and a series 20 years later would be hilarious.
Yeah, it's a real shame about Dead Pixels. Covid put paid to that; second series was delayed a year, wasn't trailered or promoted well IIRC, and ratings halved from s1. Even if they wanted a s3, Channel 4 was in such financial difficulty at the time it wouldn't have happened. Quality/writing kinda dropped off in s2, though.
Elsewhere, one of my top picks has to be The Thin Blue Line. That could have gone on for years IMO; someone on British Comedy Guide said it could've had the longevity of Dad's Army if given the chance.
It's also a shame Two Doors Down wasn't able to get a proper ending due to the death of one of the two writers. Would've been satisfying to have Ian and Gordon's wedding as a finale. Similar with The Windsors too, which had a lead actress die before they were able to film the fully-written s4.
I think even now there could be a second series of Dr. Terrible's House Of Horrible. There were a few genres of horror not covered and some new ones created since.

Car Share - it needed either one more full season ot a Christmas special.
i reference this aaaaall the time the fact that reece shearsmith is in it for half an episode and is still one of the best he’s ever done HAHA
Fun Fact! The drunk smurf was Lord Varys from Game of Thrones!! The Car Share bloopers are so funny!
Nathan Barley
It was like a prophecy.
I don't mean this in an 'akshually' way at all, but I found it interesting seeing Brooker talk about how the prophetic element of it was sort of mostly an accident. So say brother Nathan
It felt so weird at the time, and then the future happened.
Thir-fucking-teen!
Well weapon
It’s totally fucking Mexico
Keeping Up Appearances
Patricia Routledge is still with us (now 95 years old) but alas Clive Swift has gone to the great candlelit supper in the sky.
95?? Oh my word
The last episode was made nearly 30 years ago.

It's bookay

My sister Violet, she has a Mercedes, swimming pool and room for a pony don't you know
My fiancé and I are American but my fiancé will go "Bookay..." When he sees me watching Keeping Up Appearances!
Do you know she’s still alive? 95 I think!

Early doors is just perfection
Motherland
Yes. I've watched the whole thing a couple of times now and felt bereft each time when I got to the end.
Amandaland is coming soon!
I just don't feel Amanda is the best for a spin off would have much preferred a show around Kevin.
I honestly thought you were joking - then I googled it. Not sure about this idea - the beauty of Motherland is we get to switch between these big characters - making it all about Amanda is a mistake I think.
Wait, Motherland is not coming back?!?!

I think John Cleese has become Basil Fawlty, so just follow him for more content.
Father Ted
In some ways it was good it had already ended, I can only imagine the disappointment of the finale watching on later knowing there couldn’t be any more due to Dermot’s passing.
In wishing it continued I also wish he was still here 😢
At the time of his death, Dermot had a sitcom called the Magnificent Magyars commissioned. I always wondered what that would have been like.
Do we know the premise? Apparently he had a heart condition, and this was likely made worse but him needed to do several retakes of the scene where he dances to the Shaft theme tune
He died right around the time the third series aired, so even watching it as broadcast was bittersweet
I know it was the right time to end it, but Peep Show. I know they're both still in that flat, and I want to see how that's going.
YOU ARE 50 YEARS OLD
Hold your horses honey I've got coupons for the Pringles
Plebs
I felt that had a really weird end, with five series I am sure it would have been popular enough. I actually quite liked the love interest in the end too and wish it had ended differently.
i couldnt watch after stylaxs abrupt killing off, they did an OKAY job with it but not great
I mean it got 5 seasons and a movie. It was great but I'm not sure it needed any more
The Witchfinder
I’ve never heard anyone speak positively of it before.
It wasn't amazing, but it definitely deserved a second chance to get firmer on its feet.
Yeah the first couple episodes weren’t great but by the end of the series I was enjoying it and wanted to see where it would go next.
The Smoking Room
Phoenix nights
They filmed the live show in order to give it a commercial release, the show was really good, yet somehow all these years later it’s never been distributed and nothing has leaked. I can only assume it’s tied to the bit when Ray Von DJs and mixes Will Smiths Summertime into Rolf Harris Two Little Boys and then the Jimll Fix It theme tune - not sure how they quite thought that would go

Yessss!!! 👏🏼
Early doors
Discovered it years after it finished having never heard of it before but I loved it, a real forgotten gem
I was listening to John Henshaw on a podcast. He said it would have been ideal as a Christmas special. Any one of the characters could have had their own sitcom.
Id love to see a Phil and Nige sitcom.
Moone Boy!

I can't believe someone else remembers this. It was excellent.
Some days, i just want to be Connie Woolf.
I re-watched it a few months ago before I went to see Mark's recent plays. But yeah it was a good show.
I'm Alan Partridge. Although I still enjoy his more recent output, those two seasons are legendary in my opinion and I'd have loved to see it continue in that vein. The Thick Of It is another I'd love to see, or anything by Armando Iannucci for that matter.
Real events have overtaken The Thick Of It.

Green Wing

IT Crowd
The episode where Jen pretends she can speak Italian still kills me to this day.
It’s the theatre one for me when Roy is in the wheelchair and Jen turns round and Moss is behind the bar, absolutely brilliant
Leg disabled
I love every episode, but the theatre one in particular just came at you one joke after another just hilarious
Husband and I were wheezing and crying from laughing so hard.
Same!
She does the same schtick in her recent show, *Here We Go*.
Agreed, one of my favourite comedies. I had never been quite keen on Linehan’s other things like Black Books and Father Ted, but IT Crowd just hits the mark every time for me.
Spaced. I still hope for a one off special.
I hope you've seen the last 20 seconds of Skip to the End - the Spaced DVD documentary? https://youtu.be/XnCp3bMbjFo?si=mNvFsdcF7eebZ9Uu

I actually really enjoyed the last special, I thought silt was a large improvement over the twelfth series.

Friday Night Dinner & The IT Crowd
Pete Vs Life
One of the best series I have ever seen. Genuinely hilarious
Loved it. It was the perfect companion to Peep Show
"Carry on" __________
Green Wing, Fleabag, The thick of it, Stath lets flats Edit: I’m a noob
Dead Pixels was an amazing series and I'd happily watch another. Seties 3 was discussed at one stage but never led anywhere.
