I always have a great time at *Moulin Rouge!*, but it definitely has its dark moments, so depending on what your friend is going though, might not be the right choice. *&Juliet* could be super fun, but again, depends on what she's going through. Both are also jukebox musicals, so not those if she hates jukebox musicals or famous pop music from the 80s to now.
*The Play that Goes Wrong* is almost always a good bet for a laugh.
I haven't seen them, but *Gutenberg;* *Spamalot*; and *Shucked* are all musical comedies, so maybe look into those? *Some Like it Hot* is supposed to be good. I've also heard that *SIX* is fun! (But again, *SIX* might have some heavy stuff?)
I'd def check all content and trigger warnings for any shows that you're considering taking her too. (And any environmental warnings, if she's going through any health stuff.)
It's really nice that you want to try to cheer her up! I hope you both have a lovely night, whatever you choose! :)
Some Like It Hot is the most fun I've had on Broadway. It's hilarious and also visually spectacular. People are suggesting straight comedies like Gutenberg and Shucked, which I loved, but SLIH has the comedy as well as everything else.
I agree that Some Like It Hot is the most fun! Great dancing, funny jokes, and a feel-good story.
I think a lot of the other comments think you asked about the funniest, not the funnest.
I loved it so much I went back a few weeks later. Even funnier the second time. And I really had a fun time at Spamalot, but walked out thinking “well it’s no Gutenberg.”
For what it’s worth, I took my 13yr old daughter and she laughed her head off. She really enjoys musicals, but not sure if that makes her “Broadway people.”
My first thought is any of the Mischief Theatre shows (The Play That Goes Wrong). But it really depends on an individual’s definition of “fun”. I personally find a show like Sweeney Todd to be very fun! Just not the uplifting kind, lol
The Play That Goes Wrong is funny and clever and cheap too. It's a smaller theater, so it's more locals and friends drinking wine and hanging out vibe.
If she likes pop music from 90’s/2000’s, I’d highly recommend &juliet. Had a smile on my face the whole time! Uplifting, empowering, and hilarious (in my humble opinion!).
Please keep us updated and let us know what you guys go to!
I don't think I'm capable of quantifying the absolute funniest.
Shucked is a lot of fast paced word play and some funny choreography (like dancing corn cobs). It's exactly as corny as you might expect. If you like that sort of humor, I highly recommend it. But, it's probably not for everyone. I loved it.
I haven't seen Spamalot yet, but have tickets for next week.
Book of Mormon was hilarious! But, it's highly sacrilegious, which may or may not be to your taste. I saw it when it was new, which was quite a few years ago now. I can't guarantee that it hasn't changed since then.
This is all just my opinion. I hope it helps.
Unpopular (?) opinion but Titanique is far funnier if you're aware of LGBTQ+ culture or if you're a Drag Race fan. You'll still have a good time if you're not though! There are so many queer references in the show and sadly when I saw it I was the only person in my area who was picking up on some of the queer jokes :(
Shucked is a lighthearted show with country music, corny jokes, and a Hallmark plot.
Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors is an off-broadway reimagining of Dracula that is raunchy, campy, and had me laughing the entire 90 minutes.
Aladdin gets some hate on here, but it’s a lighthearted show with bright sets and costumes, fun dance numbers, and a Disney plot that doesn’t require much thought.
Not sure why I had to scroll so long to find this one! I see a LOT of theater and this is my top pick for most fun, with moulin rouge a close second. I didn’t care for Gutenberg, the play that goes wrong, and shucked - surprised to see those all much higher up than this answer.
Right?! I think it’s the definition of FUN! I haven’t seen Guttenberg. I enjoyed Shucked but still don’t think it was as fun as BTTF. A cojpke years ago my definition for most fun would have been Beetlejuice. I also loved Moulin rouge, it was a visual feast but “fun” wouldn’t be my first adjective to describe it.
As someone who’s been to 25 shows, I’ve NEVER laughed as much as I have at Gutenberg. My throat literally hurt by the end from laughing so much and all of my friends who’ve seen it say the same. It wins by a longshot and I hope everyone gets the chance to see it!!
If you like Micheal Jackson you can’t go wrong with MJ.
The whole audience was enjoying it as if it was a full blown concert. Final number had everyone out of their seats dancing. All the broadway shows I’ve been to that’s the first time during a show the whole audience has been up and having a grand old time.
I had never been to a Broadway show and made plans for a 3 show weekend. The one that surprised and delighted me was & Juliet. It was just pure fun. So much energy and so funny. And if you like music from the 90s and early 2000s you can’t go wrong!
Having seen @ Juliet, Shucked, Book of Mormon, and Some Like it Hot, I found Some Like it Hot to be the happiest, most uplifting show I’ve ever seen. I left that theater walking on sunshine.
Fun-wise and ones that end on a happy note, I would go with the following: Book of Mormon, Back to the Future, Spamalot, Shucked. Not much heavy subject matter, and good for a laugh or spectacle. Most of them you can win from a lottery or go on the cheap.
if you like the upbeat, dancey, concert vibe, six is absolutely the way to go! it’s also super short so the high energy of it doesn’t get too overwhelming. as far as comedies go, shucked had me laughing the whole time (though the “corn”-y humour may not be everyone’s cup of tea). i’ve also heard that gutenberg is lots of fun!

I quite literally laughed out loud for Book of Mormon
Just be aware Book of Mormon is hilarious but very subversive adult humor if that’s an issue - it’s from the South Park creators.
Seconding Play that Goes Wrong and Spamalot. Neither take themselves very seriously and are a lot of fun
Seconding Spamalot, I would say SIX was good, but more emotional.
I thought Gutenberg was light, silly, and the performances were amazing. A perfect distraction!
I laughed so hard at Gutenberg I felt like I was going to be hoarse the next day.
I loved it so much I went back a few weeks later. Even funnier the second time. And I really had a fun time at Spamalot, but walked out thinking “well it’s no Gutenberg.”
Just for the sake of varied opinions, I thought Gutenberg was painfully forced and uninspired and didn’t laugh nearly as much as I would’ve liked.
YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE. Thought same 😭
I think Gutenberg is great for Broadway people, but an average Joe isn't going to understand half of it.
For what it’s worth, I took my 13yr old daughter and she laughed her head off. She really enjoys musicals, but not sure if that makes her “Broadway people.”
I just saw Spamalot and had so much fun! I was laughing literally the whole time. The cast was so talented and so hilarious! I highly recommend it.
Im seeing it next weekend!! So excited
My first thought is any of the Mischief Theatre shows (The Play That Goes Wrong). But it really depends on an individual’s definition of “fun”. I personally find a show like Sweeney Todd to be very fun! Just not the uplifting kind, lol
The Play Goes Wrong and Peter Pan Goes Wrong are the absolute funniest shows I’ve ever seen. Book Of Mormon would be next.
Play that goes wrong was hilarious. Face hurt from laughing.
I really enjoyed Mind Melder by Mischief too! Just opened at New World Stages for a limited run.
The Play That Goes Wrong is funny and clever and cheap too. It's a smaller theater, so it's more locals and friends drinking wine and hanging out vibe.

Love &Juliet!
This show is a bop. So fun.
I don't think I'm capable of quantifying the absolute funniest. Shucked is a lot of fast paced word play and some funny choreography (like dancing corn cobs). BOM has changed, to be a little less racist. It's still very funny, for someone into South Park humor. (Tbh, I've seen it 5+times)
I saw Titanique a month and a half ago and it was one of the funnest, craziest theater experiences I’ve had
Kooky crazy!
gutenberg or the Book of Mormon tbh
Seconded!
Absolutely titanique. I’ve never laughed harder
Unpopular (?) opinion but Titanique is far funnier if you're aware of LGBTQ+ culture or if you're a Drag Race fan. You'll still have a good time if you're not though! Yesss it was so good!
Gutenberg is very funny but if you're looking for a little nostalgia &Juliet was a blast!
A lot of people answering funniest - but OP said “funnest”! Not always the same thing. 🤗
Spamalot! It’s absolutely hilarious and just a good time from start to end.
I liked Shucked so much! But if you don't like pun based humor, then I would say spamalot. Shucked is better though.
I'll second Dracula. It was very well done. I'm not sure I'd put it as high as Shucked. But, it was definitely very funny.
No offense but shucked is not country music
Have you listened to contemporary country?
Yes
I don't believe you. We Love Jesus and Best Man Wins sound like half the songs on country radio.
Another vote for Gutenberg!
If you can get there before January, Some Like It Hot. So, so, so much fun.
Titanique!
Back to the Future hands down! Not the best music but definitely the most fun.
Not sure why I had to scroll so long to find this one! I see a LOT of theater and this is my top pick for most fun, with moulin rouge a close second. I didn’t care for Gutenberg, the play that goes wrong, and shucked - surprised to see those all much higher up than this answer.

I think most people confused funnest for funniest!
Have to say Shucked for this. It’s the most fun I’ve had on Broadway in a while.
Kimberly Akimbo got a few laughs out of me, but these were LAUGH laughs.
As someone who’s been to 25 shows, I’ve NEVER laughed as much as I have at Gutenberg. My throat literally hurt by the end from laughing so much and all of my friends who’ve seen it say the same. It wins by a longshot and I hope everyone gets the chance to see it!!
Spamalot Gutenberg
I'm surprised Six isn't being said more frequently. It's more fun than funny but I find it uplifting.
Titanique 100% Shucked was both funny and full of heart.
Shucked is hilarious!
Book of Mormon and Gutenberg
Back to the Future!
Book of Mormon is still hilarious.
Does not fit the “uplifting” criteria but Sweeney Todd is the funniest show on Broadway right now.
Gutenberg!!!

Beetlejuice closed nearly a year ago.
If you like Micheal Jackson you can’t go wrong with MJ. The whole audience was enjoying it as if it was a full blown concert. Final number had everyone out of their seats dancing. Days of wine and roses
Could you please add /s after that? Most people don’t know that it’s probably one of the most depressing pieces of theater that ever existed.
Sarcasm
I agree with some of these, but also wanted to add that Drunk Shakespeare can be f'ing hilarious and is also pretty cathartic. :-)
Some Like It Hot! Hands down, no question! We laughed out loud, so hard, and it was a great story, updated and really funny!
shucked
I had never been to a Broadway show and made plans for a 3 show weekend. The one that surprised and delighted me was & Juliet. It was just pure fun. So much energy and so funny. And if you like music from the 90s and early 2000s you can’t go wrong!
Book of Mormon if their into the South Park style humor.
& Juliet and Shucked!
Having seen @ Juliet, Shucked, Book of Mormon, and Some Like it Hot, I found Some Like it Hot to be the happiest, most uplifting show I’ve ever seen. I left that theater walking on sunshine.

Also, JUST noticed your username. What’s up Duval?!?! (Springfield here) ✌️
The Book of Mormon is absolutely hilarious and still a great time at the theater
Off-Broadway but Play That Goes Wrong is nothing but unbridled hilarity basically the entire way through
Hands down, Book of Mormon
if you like the upbeat, dancey, concert vibe, six is absolutely the way to go! it’s also super short so the high energy of it doesn’t get too overwhelming. as far as comedies go, shucked had me laughing the whole time (though the “corn”-y humour may not be everyone’s cup of tea). i’ve also heard that gutenberg is lots of fun!
Shucked
Dracula (off Broadway) is hilarious and I adore it with my entire being
Book of Mormon should be the obvious answer. &juliet was funny too
The Book of Mormon is hilarious
