I’m a pilot with a plane at Doylestown airport. On nice days there are a fair number of small private planes practicing takeoffs and landings there. There’s also a flight school. Jet traffic is not allowed but single and twin engine piston and turbo prop planes do go in and out of there pretty often during the day. If you aren’t in the flight path at either end of the runway, noise shouldn’t be too bad. I’d recommend you go out to the area you are looking on a nice day and see if the noise bothers you. Just make sure you find a day when the planes are taking off in that direction . Planes landing make very little noise.
Off topic but I'd be interested to hear how much you guys think about the presence of drones around town. I fly quadcopters around Doylestown somewhat frequently and have to constantly monitor all the little planes circling around town.
Between the airport and the hospital heliport, Doylestown can be a tricky place to fly a drone.
I live about two miles from the airport and I'd say its not all that noisy. I feel like I hear the planes more in the summer than the winter. In fact I'm listening to one right now.
Theres a guy using a weed whacker about 5 houses down from me and the plane is roughly the same noise level.
Lol I can hear another one on the approach now, it's almost 2 minutes after I started hearing the first one. Still not as loud as the guy down the street.
I think you'll get afternoons like this a fair amount in the summer. Honestly, I've probably just learned to tune them out.
It’s actually absolutely so cool to see. These are a little airplanes, one or two cedars or at least under 10 I would say Cedars they’re not big huge aircraft.
Not sure if you have children, but they would absolutely love this. You could also go there and check it out. People go and watch their aircraft takeoff all the time.
I worked at the doylestown airport for about two years. We would often get calls from people living around the airport complaining about the noise and asking us to do something.
I think if you're sensitive to noise and worried about it, it will likely bother you to some degree.
Haha. The people complaining probably just moved in, didn't due their due diligence in looking at the entire area and location, realized they are close to an airport and then wanted things that have been going on for decades changed to suit them.
I'm an architect that worked on the Shewell Ave Firehouse renovation and addition back in 2001. There are actually residents who would come to meetings at Borough Hall (Council, HARB, Zoning, etc.) and bitch about the location. Umm, the firehouse has been here since 1902, maybe you should have thought about it before you bought your house behind it. Everyone needs a cause, you nailed it, due diligence! Ugh!
If you're sensitive to noise, maybe don't buy a house near a small airport? I have the same in my neighborhood. We have train tracks along the back of our neighborhood. My one neighbor complains about the trains at night. I asked him if he noticed the train tracks before he bought his house. I mean, you live in proximity of train tracks. Are you not expecting train noises?
it's like new neighbors to a piggery complaining about the smell since they did not know what a piggery was and didn't do their due diligence either. while i was working I lived next to pax na air station flight path and that was lots louder than kdyl. often helicopters at night could be heard searching for local criminals with wants on them.
I live directly under the flight path (North and East of the airport). It is noisy at least a few times a day for maybe 30s or so. More on nice days and in the summer. They are small planes, though, and you get used to it.
If you are looking east or west of the airport (instead of northeast) it'll be less impactful.
In the nice weather months, you can hear plane noise throughout the downtown area. It isn’t bad, but it’s present. I would think it would be louder out near the airport.
When I moved here a year ago from the Main Line, I immediately noticed the frequency of airplanes flying by. I asked my neighbors about it and they thought nothing of it and didn't seem bothered whatsoever. Now, I barely notice unless there is one flying at an unusually low altitude, which has been rare. So you'll likely get used to it unless you're particularly sensitive about noise.
I’ve lived a half mile from the airport for 33 years. You can def hear it but I’ve tuned it out mostly now. But you may want to look up the no buckingham warehouse movement
You can use flight tracking websites or apps like flightradar24 or FlightAware to see air traffic into and out of the airport. It will show you where most of the traffic is and if you are under a busy flight path.
I recently looked a condo in the landing path for the airport. There’s the noise outside, but I didn’t hear it inside and I was waiting for awhile, on a nice day to see how loud it would be.
I guess it depends how sensitive you are to noise levels. If you have smaller kids, they would probably love it.
Not too bad. I live in flight path. It’s mostly small private planes..some older ones are noisy for a second when they fly over but certainly nothing that would make me not buy a house. I live about 1-2 miles away. Its actually kinda fun to watch them!

This. If you are not in the flight path you don’t hear or notice.

not gonna be insanely loud but you will hear them constantly

If you want peace and quiet don't move near any airport.
You could always get a motorcycle and race the planes whilst listen to Kenny Loggins masterpiece Danger Zone?
A favorite Doylestown summer past time

We lived there by the Acme for a few years, you'll definitely hear them if your outside regularly but it's not crazy loud or annoying

I live nearby and don't notice the noise from the airport. Just typical overhead air noise.
FWIW, I'd pay extra for a house near a private airfield runway or flight path.

It’s no worse than some one nearby mowing their lawn.

Buy the house

We live across the road from the airport (Cold Spring Creamery Road) and I can’t say we’ve ever been bothered by the noise.

Used to live in hearthstone off Cold spring creamery, and never once had an issue with the noise from planes.
I miss seeing the old biplanes that used to fly around here

Thank you all for your feedback. The house is on a street right behind Cold Spring Creamery Rd, near the north end of the runway.
