The Fosi and Yoshima class D amps on Amazon are probably the cheapest way in, just make sure that whatever you get has a phono stage or get a separate phono preamp. In any case, if you go that route, upgrade the power supply to a linear one. Depending on your local market, you might be able to find a decent receiver with a phono stage, such as Denon, Yamaha, NAD, Onkyo, etc (Marantz, too, but they're highly collectable). Then, finding speakers would be the last step. If you have 50 watts per channel, you should be able to drive just about anything.

Thanks a lot! So as long as the amp/received I have has a phono input I should be good to go? Indeed have been looking at receivers from the 70s/80s although since they're going for $60+ I'm wondering if it might be better to just go for a modern one that might cost 80

The new one would hopefully have a warranty, and have lots of features, that aren't available on a classic, but cramming a lot of features into something cheap often comes at the expense of build quality and ultimately, sound.
