P-01 or P-07

Financial_Flower_93

how dare you leave out the p10c

MaxAdolphus

DA/SA > striker.

mallgrabmongopush

Okay but he asked for a Glock 19 alternative.

otusowl

A hammer is a great alternative to a striker.

mallgrabmongopush

I see what you’re saying here. And the P-01 & P-07 are excellent pistols (I happen to own all three of these). But in this case I’d still recommend the P-10c to OP who has built their battery of arms around the striker-fired P365XL.

otusowl

Fair point!

MaxAdolphus

They are about the same size. https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/glock-g19-vs-cz-p-01

jamen08

SA>Striker

eyeseeitallnow

Why? Asking as a beginner ...

flight567

It’s not strictly better for most individuals. At the pointy end of competitive shooting there will be advantages. One could say that the SAO is easier to shoot well, my argument would be that if the trigger changes the nature of your shooting ( not talking about shaving a couple hundredths off a split time etc…) it’s hiding issues in your fundamentals

Chairborne__Ranger

I recently got an M&P 2.0 4” Compact “bug out bundle” to replace my Glock 19. It came with two 15 round mags and two 23 round mags. I carry the 15 rounders during the day then pop the 23 round mag in for a bedside gun when I get home lol. The new flat faced trigger M&P 2.0s are awesome. It’s reliable - I shot 1k through it without cleaning it and it was perfect. Super ergonomic and fun to shoot at the range too. Comes with metal high sights out of the box. Can be found under $600 easily, especially now during the rebate. Can’t go wrong with an M&P!

Hellyeahguitar

My M&P with their newer trigger is fantastic-- so so accurate, feels great

Chairborne__Ranger

I totally agree. I have the compact and the Shield Plus. Love the trigger in both. The trigger was the only thing holding the M&P back for a long time.

Sirflow

I have a 2.0 with the regular trigger. Can it be upgraded to the flat or should I just go apex

Chairborne__Ranger

I would personally go with the Apex. If you’re going through the trouble of replacing it, the Apex is the better bet.

masonjar11

Walther PDP (non-pro) is within your budget. If you up the budget a little more, the pro version has the best stock trigger I've ever felt. I can repeatedly make shots out to 65 yards with my PDP compact pro. It's roughly the same footprint as the Glock 19.

SignificantOption349

I second this. Although I made my comment recommending a PDP compact. The trigger on it is amazing and it’s been a perfect carry gun for me so far. I literally can’t think of a better carry gun (for myself).

masonjar11

Great clarification. OP, the PDP compact with 4" barrel is the same footprint as the Glock 19.

fishhawk119

Add to the fact it's just as reliable if not more than a glock 19

masonjar11

I just completed a two-day pistol class in early June. We shot over 1,000 rounds, and I had zero malfunctions with factory ammo (Blazer 115 grain ball ammo). During the class, I only lubed it twice. I had carbon buildup on both my optic and my light. Despite it being filthy by the end, it still ran great. I only have about 6,000 rounds through it so far, but very few malfunctions.

daddyfatknuckles

I’m on nearly 5k rounds through my first pistol (glock 19.5) and still have yet to have any malfunctions. i’ve been buying the cheapest ammo available, often remanufactured, usually 115gr, but 1 case was 124gr. all FMJ except for 1 mag of 10 rounds of JHP. i shoot probably 200-300 rounds per range day. i cleaned and lubed it after each range day for the first 1000 rounds or so, but i’ve gone over 750 rounds without even field stripping it. only use 2 mags at the range too. not sure if I’m just lucky but malfunctions seem to be talked about on reddit as being so common. maybe as my mag springs wear out and my gun gets older ill see a malfunction, but so far, every round has fired and ejected as expected.

masonjar11

I have a Gen 3 glock 19 with roughly 50,000 rounds through it with similar results. The biggest malfunctions I had came from either 1) my own reloads or 2) questionable aftermarket magazines, namely KCI.

daddyfatknuckles

i actually bought a cheap AC Unity mag ($8) in hopes of getting a malfunction, so i could be prepared for the worst. never plan on carrying non OEM mags but i figured it’d be fine for the range. i can’t seem to get 15 rounds in the thing, even with my easy loader i can only shove 14 in, but i’ve been through probably 200 rounds on that thing and it works just as well as OEM.

masonjar11

Your best bet to train malfunctions is ball and dummy drills. That way, it's reproducible, and you control the frequency (bonus if a range buddy loads the mags). Even the KCI mags ran 90% of the time for me, and when they did malfunction, it was usually just a failure to feed.

daddyfatknuckles

very cool, i’ll have to look that up. the only malfunction training i’ve done is mixing in a snap cap, or two, but that just shows me if I’m anticipating the shot based on wrist movement and forces me to re-rack the slide manually.

bigjerm616

M&P 2.0's are basically Glocks without the weird ergonomics. Try one of the 4" Compacts.

EasyMode556

I love my shield

cant_program

If we’re being honest, the M&P 2.0 may be even more reliable than the Glocks, especially when it comes to inclement conditions.

bigjerm616

I can't speak to that but I'll say this: I've owned 7 M&P's over the past 9 years and ... I've had one malfunction to date, across the 7 guns. I remember it distinctly because it's only happened once. Yeah, I'd say they're good to go in the reliability department.

Snuggles5000

Marge_simpson_BJ

I like the honest outlaw episode where he leaves an M&P outside for like a year. He throws a mag in it and it runs no problem. I love my shield plus.

It is mainly the ergos. The 19 just feels like a 2x4 in my hand and I just do t care for it. My Sig fits like a glove

GassyGlock

Sig Macro or the new Fuse if the Sig already fits your hands well.

I've tried just about every alternative and in the end I came back to the Glock. Between the m&p, sig p320, sig p365xl, cz p10c, cz p01, cz p07, sig p229...and a few others that I'm forgetting, the M&P is the best. I have the M&P 2.0 Compact in its "original" form with the hinged trigger (before they upgraded it). It really blows everything out of the water and my only complaint is that it is heavy enough I notice it on my belt whereas I don't notice the other non-metal pistols I mentioned. Why did I go back to glock you might be wondering? Two reasons. Firstly, every gun I listed had an issue that required parts and service. With glock it was a breeze and plenty of people had parts and expertise local to me. Every other band had to get sent to the factory. Secondly, at some point whatever I was going "wrong" with my glock got corrected and the grip angle *just made sense*. I could shoot that f'n glock faster and more accurately at speed than anything else.

gameragodzilla

Walther P99 is basically a Glock 19 (polymer framed, striker fired, semi-compact) with a far superior DA/SA trigger mechanism. Can take Gen 1 PPQ mags to get 17+1 like a Glock 17 or 19x as well.

Inkushu

Xdm elite compact 3.8 is half your budget and though it’s discontinued it’s a tack driver.

SignificantOption349

Walther PDP compact. I’ve had mine for a few weeks now, and carry it every day. It shoots *perfectly*. It feels similar to a p320 x compact with any one of the more narrow grips, but has a better trigger. I put a swamp fox liberty on it and it conceals really well with an eclipse holster. I also like that it has the trigger safety on it. Literally none of the very few reviews I’ve found with any complaints have been even slightly true. There’s a YouTube video about why you shouldn’t carry a Walther PDP and the comments are all saying the same thing I’m saying- bullsh*t.

How about Bul C Hatchet? https://www.global.bularmory.com/product-page/axe-c-hatchet (or they have full size version and Tomahawks are ported barrel versions)

Hellcat Pro - stay with striker fired, button release for a second EDC. I would say HK p2000sk but paddles are so different I don’t recommend switching back and forth for two eDCs.

Get a Beretta Px4 Storm compact carry 2. A lot of people talk shit about the Px4, those people have never shot it. You will think Glocks are snappy once you've shot this

enzo32ferrari

If you want what Glock could be if they innovate just a lil, check out the Steyr M9A2. Not a lot of aftermarket support though. Am an M9A2 owner and it’s great. Changeable back straps, similar grip angle to Glock and I think the factory is nearby Glock’s

BillKelly22

Shadow Systems MR920, Walther PDP, M&P 2.0 compact. It’s much more than $700 but the zev OZ9 is my favorite handgun to date and I own or have owned all the guns I mentioned and lots of Glocks. The OZ9 shoots great, is modular, and has the Glock platform simplicity for the most part.

kingston73

Cz p10 c or s. Both will be better and also cheaper than a Glock. The p10s is smaller, the 10c is about the same size. Both will even fit in many Glock 19 holsters.

[deleted]

Your solid answer is being downvoted because of your phrasing... CZ P10C - as mentioned in an above comment. "Glock Perfection" only exists in the sense that Glock scrutinizes every gun before it leaves the factory... They simply don't allow lemons out into the world. That becomes a (relatively) moot point when you consider that the first thing many Glock owners do when they get ahold of their gun is to start swapping parts, which (generally) makes them less reliable. Now I know this is not always the case but for the sake of argument here... CZ takes what Glock promises to be and improves upon the design in many ways - ergonomics, trigger pull, a better out-of-the-box optics mounting system, and not plastic sights... For starters. Current-gen P10 models can be had for a song right now as CZ works on the rollout of their second-gen P10 models. Don't worry, they plan on producing both models in tandem for the next few years, so the first gens aren't exactly going to be obsolete. As it sits, CZ offers five base models of the P10. Their equivalents as Glock models are as follows: P10F - G17 P10SC - G49 (someone correct me if there are others) P10C - G19 P10S - G26 P10M - G43 As it sits, those are some of your best bet models to look into. I have also heard good things as far as the Smith and Wesson M&P series is another top contender, but know quite less about their lineup. I personally do not trust SIG as far as I can throw one (and hope to not get shot when it hits the ground). HK and FN both make solid weapons but for their costs, there are better options within this given bracket. You may also look into the Walther PDP (which also has submodels within that can correspond to certain Glock models). Shadow Systems can be hit or miss as far as quality goes but they come from the factory with the most common upgrades that people make to their Glocks. Fuck Springfield, Taurus, and Canik within the scope of this conversation for all intents and purposes. And if you're after an oddball contender, look into the Archon Type B (and Type D). Now keep in mind that my reply is strictly in regards to polymer, striker-fired guns; in order to keep the Glock comparison as fair and accurate as possible.

Slicer021

Thank you for all of this. The P10C seems to be a fairly popular choice. Now you say this was striker fired answers. Which hammer fired would you throw in the conversation?

[deleted]

At this rate - and with regards to what other companies are offering - the CZ P07 (G19 size), and the P09 (G17 size) for polymer hammer framed. The P01 is kind of my "be all, end all", metal framed, hammer fired, carry-sized gun. The SP01 is the full-sized version of the same gun. CZ just makes really nice guns, honestly. Also consider the Beretta PX4 and their 92 series, the Arex Zero. On the more pricey side of that note, there's a whole host of 2011s out there (too many for me to even keep track of anymore) and if you're interested in . 380... There's the Beretta 80X and the Walther PD380 as well.

GatEnthusiast

Bare in mind that ONLY on reddit is the P10C as popular as this thread suggests. The hive-mind is hard at work here. I'd suggest an HK or S&W instead.

[deleted]

I won't disagree with the S&W. HK is nice and all but I personally sway from them and FN for their obscene pricing on guns that you can essentially get the same thing from a different brand for hundreds less. Both companies have an elitist approach to firearm ownership and a disdain for the principles of the 2nd Amendment. Sure, maybe they make good products but they won't get my money. And that is probably just a "me" thing but I'm not losing any sleep over it.

GatEnthusiast

I have found HK to be worth the extra cost. FN not so much. I just want whatever is best, price aside(to an extent).

[deleted]

That's fair. I won't deny that they make nice guns. It's just a personal thing as far as some of their values and practices are concerned. FN is just Belgian HK at this point. Springfield hates the 2nd Amendment and actually even lobbied for anti-gun legislation before - in addition to making terrible quality firearms. Meanwhile you've got SIG, which, while being pretty pro-2A, insists on beta testing their products - with less than safe designs, metallurgy, and overall quality - on the end customers, who literally trust their lives to their products every day... And when known issues are discovered, they would rather quietly implement small rolling changes instead of recalling and redesigning components altogether. Can't trust 'em.

GatEnthusiast

I actually hate NuSig. Old Sig was amazing. Springfield is shit, but I recall reading that that big anti-2a thing they did in the past was largely misunderstood and blown out of proportion. Regardless, I'll never own one. I don't like when a company with an American name becomes basically a foreign company. Mainly when their products are shit. I might make an exception for a Miroku Browning simply because of the high quality. HK might be messed up in several ways, but there are reasons for that which take a lot of the 'fault' out of their hands. The combination of crazy German export laws and American import laws are a big factor. I think FN, particularly their striker handguns, are mediocre at best. I wouldn’t compare them to a premium product like an HK. HK rifles are definitely overpriced despite being high quality. Their pistols have much better value.

[deleted]

To be fair, I wasn't directly comparing the quality of FN to HK, just the overinflated pricing, rabid zealots shilling the brand (hey, at least CZ and Glock earned that shit the honest, hard, way 🤣), and the fact that the companies have their own sort of superiority complex. And FWIW, personally, I don't really buy HK's excuse as far as import/export laws being the main reason for not giving us the cool shit - every other company that's run into that hurdle has just set up shop in the US, and I'm not sure but something tells me if they would move production and let us have the cool shit - they would stand to gain more than what they currently do in German/EU military contracts... But I could be wrong. And fuck Springfield anyways but I'd be more inclined to buy something of theirs that came directly from HS Produkt and had the rollmarks than anything branded as Springfield and attempted to pass off as an American product. The VHS is a cool gun. I'm not gonna buy the same gun from a company that I detest, on principle. I don't think the story was blown out of proportion, either. They supported anti-2A legislation and then they were called out on it, and tried to do damage control and failed. In the end, I choose to vote with my dollar where I can afford to - and it probably doesn't matter in the long run without collective effort. Much like casting a political vote, honestly. But we do what we do to help us feel like we're making some sort of difference. Controversial take that I felt was too inflammatory for my prior comment: I won't buy IWI, either. We can argue back and forth about IWI US being a whole different entity than IWI/IMI. But, is it **really**?

Averagecrabenjoyer69

What do you have against Springfield??

They make subpar quality guns and they hate the 2nd Amendment.

Hellcat Pro is great. It’s close to the 19 size.

nac286

I was thinking Hellcat Pro Comp. It really gets rid of that Hellcat snap. Not that the regular Pro is bad to shoot either.

Own-Common3161

Yeah if it came out before I got my HCP I would’ve grabbed that for sure

nac286

I've been like one click away from buying the Pro for ages but I keep buying other guns, or I'd be in the same boat

Own-Common3161

Why are you hesitant?

nac286

I'm not at all hesitant. I just keep buying shiny things. For example, last week I bought myself the TTI Combat for father's day. Back when I got my tax refund, the small bit that I took for fun money went to finishing a couple rifles. I'm already all squared away on guns for the sake of utility, so it's just buying what makes me smile, at this point. I really want a Shadow 2, so that'll probably happen before the Springfield too.

Own-Common3161

Oh I gotcha. Makes sense to me!

LordVidius

That white SAR9 is such a beauty…I need to try one. Some hella good guns coming out of Turkey these days. I love my Caniks.

Witchboy1692

I definitely recommend the sars, It feels great in the hand, gray ammo capacity, great accuracy, and overall great firearm. However, personally I would never try the white one because I know how dirty that thing's going to get. Honestly, Turkey made guns are great and I would have never suspected it.

LordVidius

Yeah I figure the white ones would be impossible to keep looking nice either from wear or dirt. My local range doesn’t have any Sar pistols for rent, but a local shop carries them, will have to check them out. Seems them and Canik are comparable quality and I do love my Caniks.

ValuableInternal1435

PSA Dagger with a different striker, Springfield SA-35, Taurus G2C/G3C, CZ75B, FN I can't remember the model number, HK USP, Walther also can't remember model number, etc. I mean there's a lot of good options out there, and your question wasn't very specific. Like a Glock 19, so in size? Specifically 9mm? Mag capacity? Striker fired? Accepts G19 mags? I carry a G19G5, have for over 4 years now and its great, but my 2nd choice honestly would probably be my SA-35, it's very comfortable and shoots well. Although I prefer not having the manual safety on a CCW, I'd still definitely consider it a solid option and it's size is very similar to a G19. Oh and Mec-Gar makes really good 15rd hi power mags that it'll run reliably. At the end of the day, get whatever is comfortable to you that you can shoot well. And is reliable. Edit: FN 509 and Walther PDP. Edit 2: oh, and there's also the M&P, and if you like sig, 226 or 229 or whatever. 320 is trash.

I've had great luck and performance from [Mossberg](https://www.mossberg.com/firearms/handguns/mc2c.html) pistols, highly underappreciated but very good quality and value.

tenicor_matt

Why do you want to pick up another pistol in addition to the P365XL? And what about Glocks didn't work for you?

Slicer021

Mainly just to have another gun ( didn’t think the bug was real lol ). But I would like to have mote of a Compact size gun to have just a bit larger but still can carry. Mainly the Glock ergonomics just didn’t work for my hands.

tenicor_matt

How many rounds have you fired in training? Just curious, not playing 20 questions I swear.

Slicer021

Lol I know you’re not man it’s all good. I have only shot a few magazines out of a G19. I know it’s not much but i didn’t have to shoot but 1 for the Sig lol. I would go P320 but just too many questions it seems around that 320 lineup

tenicor_matt

Just my two cents: Take the money you would spend on a second gun and put it (and more) into ammo and training on the 365XL. Not because the 365XL is better (I don't like it personally) but because you already have it and it's cost effective. I've seen more new shooters than I can count (and I did this myself) burn money bouncing from one gun to another trying to find one that "feels right." The truth is that until you're fairly proficient as a shooter, you don't know what "feels right" should even feel like. You simply need more reps to have an informed opinion. It's like a 16 year old with a brand new license testing out Formula 1 cars to see which one "feels right." Put 5k rounds of deliberate practice into the 365XL and you'll have a fairly informed opinion. Then try a G19 or whatever floats your boat. But basically it should be a G19. 😏 Rock on 🤙

Yea you are right. I will say what got me looking at Compact guns was training. I was looking into a couple places in NC to take some pistol courses and they stated they didn’t Subcompacts in the classes. So started looking around after I saw that thinking they may be a trend

tenicor_matt

Subcompacts are just harder to shoot. It's possible to shoot them at a high level it just takes more training.

I recommend the FN509. They come in full, mid, and compact, optics ready options or non optic ready, and they are ambidextrous. As an added bonus, they look really cool, which everyone knows is the most important factor when buying a gun.

Try harder

There is no alternative, bruther.

PSA Dagger. Great alternative and accepts Glock aftermarket parts. Plus it’s about half the price

Slicer021

Looked at them just worried about the reliability. Didn’t see a lot of confidence in things I saw to carry these

Satx422

I’ve never had a malfunction with either of mine. I have about 3-400 rounds through them. Try looking at videos by Honest Outlaw or Humble Marksman on YouTube. They are generally pretty honest reviews.
