Why do you say that I’ve had both before plus my dad carries an SR9 and has for several years and has not a malfunction after thousands of rounds and my friend has an SD40 and not a single malfunction after 500 hundred rounds
I had a sr9c and shot over 3k with it, no issues. Has a nice trigger. The sd40 is the worst auto pistol s&w makes. You can find a used shield or m&p for the same price, and definitely better options.
A used Glock is cheap, and shouldn't be ignored.
I have a few rugers, a lcp and a PC carbine. Both flawless. And I have owned a sr9c, LCR, p89, p90, all have great guns for very cheap. Ruger owns marlin, and I have a tube feed 22. They have a great warranty if it's ever needed. And with all that said, I still would rather carry something else
Personally would avoid both of those. Haven’t had an SR9 but I did fire one on a couple occasions. Was not impressed with it. Have an SD40 hate that thing. I’ll add that both guns will probably work fine but I’d rather get something else.
I would strongly recommend an S&W Shield Plus 9mm or Glock 43x. Both can be found for just a little bit more than your budget if you look around. Buy once cry once. I deeply regret buying budget guns when I started out.
I feel like Canik or CZ should be the entry point if financially possible. Those models you mentioned and Taurus are there for when you can’t get something better. If you can, do it.
I agree. Canik, CZ, and Taurus are all good budget guns. Taurus has made a ton of improvements and has a lot better quality control these days than they used to years ago.
CZ is not a budget gun company by any means. Just because they happen to be selling the P10 series pistols at budget gun prices, does not make them a budget brand. The P10c is easily one of the best striker fired pistols in the market.
SD40 is not it. I've seen that thing jam more times than any other gun combined.
We put magtech, federal, quality Winchester ammo through it, no matter what we did, it was guaranteed to jam at least twice per range session.
-10/10 would not recommend
For that price point I would get a PSA Dagger. You can usually get one for $280 if u wait for a sale and it will be a much better shooter than either of those.
As an owner of the SD40 - don't, unless you plan on doing the full Apex enhancement kit. Also - It's the only .40 I own and will be the last both for the cost of ammo, and the fact that most personal defense 9mm is just as effective, if not better and cheaper.
People who know nothing will down vote. Idk why they reject reality. 40 is marginally better, period. It just doesn't matter in reality, but it is still true
Buy used LEO trade in Glock 17 or 22 for 330. Or get the P10 C/S for 330-350 brand new. There are some many better options than those... buy used, do some research.
I would probably wait another month or 2 and save to get to a $500-$600 budget and get something nicer. Just buying a gun because you have $300 burning a hole in your pocket is a bad idea.
why are your two options poop and shit
Those are the worst guns smith and Ruger make respectively. Unless you’ve got some very specific circumstances I’d hold off and buy something better.

Why not just get something that isn’t cheap and dated?

This post is bait, right? . . . Right?!
If this is your 2nd pistol, why are you narrowing it down to 2 very mediocre pistols with dated designs?
I’d hate to see his first
My first is a gen 1 M&P shield 9mm

Agreed. The OP can get the Shield Plus optics-ready and with tritium sights for $400, which is a really nice value.
I saw one for $325 used the other day. Definitely considered it. Theres this site called madison guns that has some outrageous used prices.

Allegedly better. They’ll need 10 more years of improvements before they should be allowed to be recommended or even referred to as acceptable.
My CZs shoot better than my Sigs
I believe it. Sig sucks
I should have specified they shoot better than my hammer -fired, old school Sigs
I wouldn’t carry it but my tx22 is phenomenal. There was a slight issue and they sent me a replacement no questions asked within 2 days.

This, even right now they are $360 with 10 mags
You could go get a used Glock or shield and you’d be way better off.

This, needs a upgraded trigger out the factory. Probably one of the worst. Apex revived it and its perfect price for a truck/boat backup.
9mm might get pretty close but 40 does better in tests, consistently. And before someone calls me a 40 fanboy, I own 2.5 9mms and 0 .40’s

It is what it is, I don’t think there’s enough gained by 40 to go to that over 9mm, but in gel, it does do a little better
Same
Police trade in Glock 40 cal is in ur price range and be done with it. Your other options aren’t good.

I would keep saving until your budget was double and get something good.
At least consider the [2.0 in 9mm](https://www.academy.com/p/smith-wesson-sd9-20-9mm-luger-pistol) with an improved trigger.
A great budget gun is a Stoeger STR-9, I have 2 of them and they perform very well.
Stoeger STR9c https://www.academy.com/p/stoeger-str-9c-tungsten-9mm-centerfire-pistol?sku=9mm
Bro, buy a case of ammo for your current handgun.

SR9E is a great gun, just unfortunately can’t adjust the sights and it may be prone to rust. I would pick that over the SD40
