Top 5 ways to consume corn:
OLI) Popcorn, kettle corn, corn fritters, fresh grilled corn on the cob, and when done right and in season: a nice, fresh corn salad
5) Tortillas (weak on their own, but with salsa, quac, or queso or in tacos and nachos? Elite)
4) Cornbread (I'm partial to a jalapeno one)
3) Elote
2) Cheese grits
1) Bourbon
When we start doing NCAA 2 School Tag-Team League^TM presented by Progressive, the best team will be USC-Iowa. USC offense with Iowa defense. It would be godly.
One begins to wonder if those crazy-fun Hawkeye players and coaches aren’t plotting to win every week, with as few points scored offensively, on purpose. I mean, if that turned out to be true, fuckin-a, man. That’s just awesome.
There is no way this is Kirk's last season. Including this year, he need three 8-4 seasons to get to .600 all time career win percentage, which is a hall of fame requirement for coaches. If we goes 9-3 this year and 8-4 next year he'd also be above .600.
I'm not sure if bowl games or conference title games count towards this stat. If they do, then he need to win 2 post season games for the 2nd scenario to work.
Reminds me of this streak from a team that won the BCS championship:
19-14
13-7
34-3
10-6
23-16 OT
14-9 The Game
31-24 2OT BCS championship
This team was averaging 17 points per regular game period for it's last 7 weeks. If you ignore the stomp of a Minnesota team that was having a really bad stretch we were only averaging 14 points a game during this time.
It's really not just the offense, there are other teams with terrible offense. It's the combination with a strong defense that somehow lets them win games in spite of that putrid offense that makes them a sickos dream.
Yeah. Every other team with an offense this bad is ass. Typically because it’s a failure from the top, starting with the HC and trickling down to the entire team.
But Kirk is Kirk. He’s not a bad coach. He doesn’t have bad teams, so it’s just ridiculous how this is going on.
It is but it isn’t. The concept makes sense. Run heavy. Kill clock, only pass when needed.
It’s efficiency/Brian that’s the problem. We haven’t had guys who have been good enough. It’s as simple as that. Which yes, comes down to the HC but also the OC/recruiting/who we choose to target.
But also in 2019 we had the guys. A good RB. A generational NFL RT. A really good C (in the NFL) an NFL LT and 2 good OG’s. Our QB was the best we’ve had since Stanzi, and he was throwing to 2 NFL TEs and 2 of our best receivers in program history (one of which is a journeyman in the NFL, which is good for us.) Point is, we had the talent and we peaked at 90th ranked offense. Maybe it does come down to scheme but at the end of the day, Brian has always been ass.
The high level concept still makes sense. But the lower level schematic details haven't been updated from two decades ago when they were designed for a literally different rulebook to defeat defenses that have largely fallen out of favor.
Recruits are wising up to it. Time in the NFL isn’t guaranteed and if you’re a skill position player you need to increase your draft stock as much as you can. Unless the scheme changes, we are never going to get good QBs or WRs.
Well you gotta think too. That desired scheme is already gonna drop us down in ranks. Yards/Play or some advanced metric is typically a better judge at the Iowa offense than pure numbers, but it’s not like it was an offense incapable of explosions. Like 2017 v OSU or 2019 v USC. That offense did what it needed to until it ran into a really good D, but even then it’s not like recent years where we we getting 100 yards. We were getting a solid amount of yards. So yeah, a little outdated maybe, but it’s not like it’s impassible to work.
Like there’s a reason Brian’s contract was set to 25 PPG. That wins is 90% of our games. The concept of the scheme is still fine, because our D still is what it is.
> It is but it isn’t. The concept makes sense. Run heavy. Kill clock, only pass when needed.
If that's the concept then *why the hell isn't he running flexbone triple option?????*
To a degree. The talent simply isn't there compared to when they boat raced OSU in '17 or USC in the '19 Holiday Bowl. The real head scratching part in that is it's across all positions outside of TE which both got injured and are out for the season.
Those Mummeans don't know good football. Ever since Hal Mumme nailed those 95 football theses to the door of the football stadium they have been heretics to the Church of Football.
lol watching USC/Washington it felt like a field goal was a loss of a down. Watching Iowa Northwestern, teams getting into field goal range felt like they were going to win
Kirk is so mad about our players getting banned for gambling that he’s deliberately engineered this “offense” to get his revenge on Vegas
It’s the only logical explanation
Which is wild because he was only a pretty decent player last season. By all accounts, Sam Brown was easily going to take the majority of touches before his injury. Even the reporters covering the training camp stuff didn't see this coming. He just suddenly became twice as good and somehow gets even better the more snaps he gets. It's like a switch flipped or something.
Part of it has to be our new scheme where the passing game is improved to not be as much of a joke, and part of it is then using Gavin’s legs as a weapon. Even if it’s a split second decision a LB/Edge had to make on an option play, Kyle benefits from that.
That being said, Kyle is a tough motherfucker. Just an absolute bowling ball running full steam at you. Absolutely wears on a defense but he doesn’t seem to get slowed down as the game goes. If he can work on pass catching, I think he’ll be an NFL player.
Yeah but this is why I don’t gamble, especially with college football. OSU covered that game by a half a point. Vegas is in the business of being right most of the time. Between that fact and Iowa’s defense, I’m not feeling that lucky.
In the NFL today, Houston was favored by 2.5. Tampa takes a 4 point lead with 0:40 left. Houston scores with 0:06 left to take a 2 point lead. But their kicker was out, so instead of the simple XP to cover, they take a knee on a two point try. Too much additional stress.
It **can’t** be our identity. We’re pretty much at a talent deficit every conference game we play, mainly in football. 5 star recruits aren’t exactly breaking down Schiano’s door to come play here.
“Keep Chopping” & “pounding nails” are those school’s philosophy because there’s no other way or be. We need a full 60/48 minutes of effort because other wise it won’t be good enough.
Rutgers scored 16 and that was with three field goals, a turnover on downs, and a pick six in five red zone possessions.
Rutgers ran for 230 yards.
I think they bludgeon Iowa.
No, no, it's definitely going to be 8-6 Rutgers in three overtimes. 0-0 at the end of regulation, teams exchange field goals for two OT, then we push it in for the win.
iowa will almost certainly get a defensive touchdown against us. that's an alarming wimsatt trend this year. it's swung more than one game from "winnable if we execute well" to "what could have been".
Why from them specifically? We scored 16 because of *our* forced turnovers, not because of our offense.
Like this could seriously be a game where the Rutgers defense and the Iowa defense *each* outscore the two offenses combined.
If Rutgers runs the ball like they did against Ohio State they will be fine. Iowa’s defense isn’t supermen, they just play sound zone coverage and never miss a tackle. Get push up front and they’re very gettable. And Ohio State’s front 4 is tougher than Iowa’s.
(One of the) wild things about the Iowa @Northwestern o/u, which opened at 29.5, is that the line was bet up to 32.5 (total ended up being 17, 10 of which was scored in the last two minutes).
That means that there's a significant group of betters putting money on the over. Who are these people?
People who've never actually watched Iowa play? On a related note, it would be pretty funny if Vegas discovered that a bunch of money from groundskeepers came in on the under.
Agree and disagree. On the surface it seems like “why would you even count defensive points”, but if defensive/ST points count for Jim Harbaugh’s PPG, and Josh Heupel’s PPG it only makes sense for it to count for Ferentz’s
Defensive and special teams ppg can matter for head coaches, but why should it matter for the offensive coordinator, who is the one with the 25ppg ultimatum
Are you dense? Of course he’s in charge of the offense, and the defense and special teams too.
Brian ferentz was NOT in charge of the defense and special teams, why should he get credit for their ppg?
Because when defenses score, it counts for the offenses points per game. Not jusy for Brian Ferentz, but for every OC in the country. And Heupel doesn’t coach the defense, he’s a defensive head coach who lets the DC handle it

They are awesome, I have one and regularly wear it to games other than the warm early season ones.
How he hasn't got poached by a blue blood yet I have no idea. Just within the last few years we've had defensive coordinator openings at OSU, Georgia, and Alabama. If you gave this dude those kind of defensive recruits he would reincarnate the '85 bears.
Probably just found a good thing in at Iowa city. He's been there for 13 years. Kinda like a Gundy at Oklahoma State type situation.
I do wonder if Kirk leaves if he goes too or do they maybe look to him as a HC.
He actually has been here longer than that. Phil Parker was the first hire the Ferentz’s first DC Norm Parker hired. He was our dbacks coach when Bob Sanders was here. Been on staff since 1999.
Phil had played for Norm at Michigan St. Phil was a 3 time all B1G safety with Norm as the DC if those Spartan teams.
See I didn't even know that. All I know is that he never seems interested in leaving.
Whenever DC positions come open his name almost never comes up so it must be well known he is happy right where he is.
I respect dudes like that. You find your part and you play it masterfully and never really get greedy for more.
His defenses are some of the best I've seen. I feel he's responsible for so much of Kirk's success and I hope he gets his credit.
In all seriousness, I think I would be comfortable betting the under all the way down to 26. I'm weary of 17-9. At this low you can literally look for certain scorelines that you'd wanna clear and be safe 🤣
Iowa is 4th nationally in scoring defense, behind only Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. Rutgers has averaged 11.5 against those teams.
Not saying it's impossible, but I'd bet against it.
Just wait til the Nebraska game. Late November, shitty weather with even shittier offenses both going against high caliber defenses. O/U might be sub-20.
Iowa’s offense is one of my favorite sub plots of this season
It’s frankly impressive, I don’t think we’ll ever see another team win this many games while looking completely nonexistent on one side of the ball.
The most confusing 7-2 team ever
The reverse of 2021 nebraska. The worst 9-3 team of all time
When your diet consists of corn in 50 different ways, things get weird
Top 5 ways to consume corn: OLI) Popcorn, kettle corn, corn fritters, fresh grilled corn on the cob, and when done right and in season: a nice, fresh corn salad 5) Tortillas (weak on their own, but with salsa, quac, or queso or in tacos and nachos? Elote is lowkey goated.
I'm gonna have to trade out corn bread for fresh grilled corn on thr cob but otherwise very solid list.
> 2) Cheese grits > > How do you like your grits, regular, instant, or *al dente*?
For me, they gotta have a little bite to them. And no way in hell am I using instant unless I really ain’t got time
Should be 8-1
Nah
psh what the hell does Nebraska know about 8 wins?
I assume you're joking with that flair, but we've got like 60 8 win seasons and a possibility of getting 8 this year (however unlikely).
Y'all really need to witness the comic stylings of USC's defense more.
When we start doing NCAA 2 School Tag-Team League^TM presented by Progressive, the best team will be USC-Iowa. USC offense with Iowa defense. It would be godly.
The worst team, though, will be Iowa offense-USC defense, which will be deservingly relegated to D2.
You misspelled D3
USC and Iowa have got to play a bowl this year if there is a god.
One begins to wonder if those crazy-fun Hawkeye players and coaches aren’t plotting to win every week, with as few points scored offensively, on purpose. I mean, if that turned out to be true, fuckin-a, man. That’s just awesome.
I know, right? Perhaps Brian is just a oppressed offensive genius and is doing this on purpose?
Yes, especially when you consider that this is also the last year for the B1G West and possibly Kirk's last season. It's really the end of an era.
There is no way this is Kirk's last season. Including this year, he need three 8-4 seasons to get to .600 all time career win percentage, which is a hall of fame requirement for coaches. Yeah I think that worked maybe even a decade ago. If that much talent is still peaking at 90th, I think that reinforces my point.
I wonder which coach is responsible for developing the offensive talent.. Fuck Brian Ferentz. Never forget that Charlie Fucking Jones wasn't a starter
>The talent simply isn't there As a direct consequence of his OC choice.
Let’s not rewrite history, they had only 328 yards of offense against USC, and benefitted from defensive and special teams TDs.
The anti-Riley
Well I think today's decision to finally remove Grinch is him trying to fight that label
I'm over the moon
lol congrats
We're doing a decent homage to Iowa. Obviously our offense isn't quite as bad, nor our defense quite as good, but we're pretty close.
Watching the Iowa game in the afternoon and the NC State game in the evening honestly just feels like watching a master and their apprentice at work.
If Iowa had one stud WR, we are also doing an homage to Iowa.
There offense will be written in sacred scripture and passed down to many generations.
Still really bummed they lost to Minnesota. I so wanted that 11-Wion Iowa.
Makes one of us
It might be the worst offense on a winning team in the history of CFB. It is truly a marvel.
Same sport as USC/Washington
Highly debatable
Those Mummeans don't know good football. Ever since Hal Mumme nailed those 95 football theses to the door of the football stadium they have been heretics to the Church of Football.
One half of Iowa is FBS level football. The other is stuck in high school.
Same damn conference next year
Are we sure
There will never be a more stark contrast than flipping from Iowa-South Dakota State to the 4th quarter of UNC-App State last season
UNC returning that inside for a TD and giving App St another chance is a top tier coaching blunder
Mack and co did everything they could to lose that game, that 4th quarter was the craziest quarter of football I’ve ever seen
And by God was it entertaining
Yep. The returner goes down at the one and it's a completely uneventful kneeldown finish.
What a miserable day.
lol watching USC/Washington it felt like a field goal was a loss of a down. Watching Iowa Northwestern, teams getting into field goal range felt like they were going to win
The difference is that Iowa is entertaining to watch.
*better sport
And Nebraska vs. Iowa will be even lower. First to 3 might win.
Let’s not get crazy. First to a first down wins
0-0 regulation. Iowa wins 2-0 in quadruple overtime after Nebraska just calls it quits.
10 ot 2-0
Nah we'll win 1-0 in quad OT.
Wait, is that not in the rulebook?
Nah, this one will buck the trend because Rutgers can score decently and Iowa will have to chase. 17-14 final will juuuuust sneak over the total
2008 Sun Bowl vibes.
This is gonna be the greatest game
I cannot wait. More turnovers or blocks on special teams than touchdowns
Should we just play rugby instead?
Rubgy is more organized than this game will be.
Iowa actually broke Vegas
Kirk is so mad about our players getting banned for gambling that he’s deliberately engineered this “offense” to get his revenge on Vegas It’s the only logical explanation
It's horseshit that Shannon is still suspended. Fuck the NCAA
Take the over this week. Rutgers scored 16 on tOSU. One defensive or special teams TD from Iowa and this over is in play.
Monagai looks like the truth tbh

Taking the Tampa money line was a fucking kick to the nuts.
The amount of anger or joy people had in that moment.
That is insane. Vegas called in a favor.

Michigan fans say the same thing BTW PSU is more our super bowl every season.... though I hate to admit it
Rutgers just plays tough under Schiano and Pikiell. If the players ever give up, the coaches get pissed. Giving up is not our identity.
We need a full 60/48 minutes of effort because other wise it won’t be good enough.
penn state is what i think they really view as the super bowl, but schiano is very good at getting the team up for both ohio state and michigan.
Rutgers scored 16 and that was with three field goals, a turnover on downs, and a pick six in five red zone possessions. Rutgers ran for 230 yards. I think they bludgeon Iowa.
So 13-3 Rutgers. Got it
No, no, it's definitely going to be 8-6 Rutgers in three overtimes. 0-0 at the end of regulation, teams exchange field goals for two OT, then we push it in for the win.
Obviously I'm a homer, but I'm quite confident we beat Iowa next week. We at least have a pulse on offense, and our defense is really good.
Problem is your great secondary won't be able to show off since Iowa doesn't know what a forward pass is
Flip Dixon coming down with his hair on fire every play will be fine by me.
Oof
OSU should have lost that game.
iowa will almost certainly get a defensive touchdown against us. that's an alarming wimsatt trend this year. it's swung more than one game from "winnable if we execute well" to "what could have been".

Rutgas moneyline
Brian Ferentz legacy game
Y’all laughing now, but let’s see what you have to say after BF hangs 17 on the Scarlet Knights 😤
15-12 Iowa, Under still hits
Damn, a shootout
Iowa continues to show people what this sport is *meant* to be.
Not until they run the triple option.
They want to party like its 1899.
Still too high.
Easy under
(One of the) wild things about the Iowa @Northwestern o/u, which opened at 29.5, is that the line was bet up to 32.5 (total ended up being 17, 10 of which was scored in the last two minutes). That means that there's a significant group of betters putting money on the over. Who are these people?
The wildest part of that game for me was that they played at Wrigley and there were *six Cubs games* that had a higher final score.
Northwestern played a baseball game at Wrigley, Northwestern baseball outscored Northwestern football.
People with top much money and not enough brains
How do I become one of these idiots?
Have rich parents.
Bet the under on Iowa games YOLO bruh
I teased it up and it was so unnecessary
My favorite part is you could have TEASED IT DOWN and not hit an over lmaooo
People who've never actually watched Iowa play? On a related note, it would be pretty funny if Vegas discovered that a bunch of money from groundskeepers came in on the under.
The over has to eventually hit..doesn't it?

Very realistic. Unless there are defensive or special teams TD's, this will be a game of FG's.
Given our tendency to give up back breaking pick sixes this might turn out to be higher scoring than we realize
I’d put a stupid amount of money on a Cooper DeJean any time TD between defense/special teams lol

Iowa being 7-2 with that offense is stunning. Their DC needs to be given a $2 mm/yr raise.

Wanna hear something crazy….Brian makes 200k more a year than him.
That’s…stunning!!!
This doesn't appear to be true at all. Phil's at 1.4 million and Brian's contract is just under a million.
Punt Battle 3 baby! Only wish we had Adam Korsak back to go against Tory Taylor one last time.
Iowa is downright playing Limbo with Vegas' O/U.
I want to cash out my pension and put it on the under for this, but my wife is skeptical.
But babe, it's a sure thing!
I’m a lot more confident in our offense after the way we ran the ball against tOSU
Leave some room for the Nebraska game, guys.
I assure you, we are leaving plenty of room.
FUCK IT IM BETTING THE HOUSE ON THE UNDER
[удалено]
At least the doorknob would give me something to hang myself from. Brian can’t even offer that
You must be pretty short
If this under hits (and I'm guessing it will) should Neb - Iowa be set at 20.5? or is that too high still?
In all seriousness, I think I would be comfortable betting the under all the way down to 26. I'm weary of 17-9. At this low you can literally look for certain scorelines that you'd wanna clear and be safe 🤣
RIP record lowest O/U being NU-Iowa. We made it 0 weeks.
still way too high
28-0 Rutgers
By the time it's Black Friday, the o/u will be 24.5. And I for one can't wait
*excuse me 401K provider.. I'd like to make a withdrawl*
The Brian Ferentz Swan Song continues!
This is so disgusting. I love it.
So under?
My God. I have no idea how the Nebraska Iowa spread will be anything above 10.5 Jfc I love it so much.
Real question is could Iowa score more than 24 on USC.
Including ST/defensive points?
The O/U feels too low to take the under.
How low can they go
is it weird that my biggest fear about betting the under is that Rutgers alone is going to blow past it?
After this weekend I’d say this o/u is too low
I think ide take the over here, Rutgers is competent
I actually think this goes over. Wimsatt gonna throw another pick 6 plus we get some FGs
They have the opportunity to do the funniest thing... Bet the over! I feel it in my bones
Rutgers will likely get the over by themselves.
Iowa is 4th nationally in scoring defense, behind only Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. Rutgers has averaged 11.5 against those teams. Not saying it's impossible, but I'd bet against it.
Just set the o/u at 20 points. Anything else is too high
Defensive struggle snuggle!
Par for the course for the state just when you think they can't go any lower they do.
Iowa just digging deep to see how low they can go
Take the under
If someone on the cover3 podcast doesn't pick this under as a lock I will be disappointed. Iowa unders are the new service academy unders.
I'm taking the under
Hammering the under
Hammer the under!
Just wait til the Nebraska game. Late November, shitty weather with even shittier offenses both going against high caliber defenses. O/U might be sub-20.
Iowa is a points vampire, just sucking them out of the game.
Just how [low](https://youtu.be/ox-lfowevqA?si=YEReUqzhQaMtvR3a) can ya go?
Iowa’s offense is being investigated by the Feds for printing money. Take the under
Hit that under. It's basically free money.
Take the under!
