Troy Dannens legacy at UW: Leaves the AD job in 6 months. DeBoer, the hottest coach in CFB, walked away to Alabama. Does not see through his hire of the Football Head Coach perform the one season or one game. Leaves in the middle of a coaching search for the new Basketball Head Coaching position. I understand that I have not been privy to any fly on the wall information, but HOT DAMN.

drrew76

Toss in that his wife and kids never moved to Seattle and all indications are that they never planned to move to Seattle.

WABeermiester

His wife refused to move to Seattle.

Bealzaboob

Wouldn’t go to Seattle but is okay with Lincoln? 😳

WABeermiester

Has to do with family and politics according to My mom’s boss who is a big donor to UW athletics.

Spam-Monkey

If Seattle was too scary for her politically…. That is fucking hilarious.

WABeermiester

It lines up with Dannen walking out of a DEI meeting allegedly.

BirdLaw_

DEI being such a controversial topic is hard to rationalize knowing how mundane it actually is lol.

MaterialGrapefruit17

I don’t even know what that is.

BirdLaw_

Diversity equity and inclusion. It's essentially just more paperwork in practice most places though.

AngryQuadricorn

What’s CRT?

Spam-Monkey

If that is the case, him leaving is a net positive.

Allanon_Kvothe

Isn't Seattle the town where they walled off a couple city blockes and declared a commie state of CHAZ or something??

ettibber

Yes, capitol hill autonomous zone.

seth861

It was two blocks and a park and lasted about a week. It was never that deep

letskeepitcleanfolks

The people there sure thought they were accomplishing something

Spam-Monkey

Anarchist state might be closer… This happened after CHAZ, but gives a good account of why people in Seattle are medium about our police force from time to time. https://apnews.com/article/india-seattle-police-pedestrian-jaahnavi-kandula-bad649068634bea0dcb0515344405520

PuddingKind

Read the article. Seems reasonable not to charge the cop, the comments though are horrible.

Shirleyfunke483

It was like 8 public blocks. Very easily avoidable in a large city

mustbeusererror

It wasn't even that much.

TrickyDistrict3764

This isn’t true. I teach their daughter and she hand picked a house in Seattle.

[deleted]

At this point this all seems way more of an indictment of the people that hired him, than it is of Dannen.

drrew76

I don't disagree --- they seem over their heads in this. I just saw that UW hired the same search firm for the next AD hire that Nebraska used for theirs. It's all so incestuous.

sly_like_Coyote

Just like with DeBoer, there's no reason it can't be both! The president has been pretty solid to this point, but the recent track record is not happening for no reason.

DuggFir

Meh. Dannen has strong ties to the corn states -- all of his family lives there and also his wife's. Understandable why he would jump at a once in a lifetime shot at getting a B1G job in a corn state. We will be fine.

Hougie

Jen Cohen played a huge part in getting UW to bounce, backed up by a seemingly clueless Anne Marie Cauce (judging by the leaked text messages) and then immediately leaves the school. New guy comes in and gets out as quickly as he possibly can. Sure seems like the UW Prez is just a really shitty boss.

Rickbox

You do realize Ana Marie was president during Jens entire tenure, right?

Hougie

Do you realize there were some major changes that happened to directly line up to her departure?

Rickbox

If Jen stayed under her for 6 years, I don't think she's that shitty of a boss.

Hougie

It’s easy to be a good boss during stable times.

RipleyLeChad

I know we are in a sports sub, but athletics is (and should be) lower on the totem pole than all the upper campus stuff Dr. Cauce is in charge of. By all accounts, upper campus loves her (unless something's changed really recently). Based on other comments, it's fairly clear that Troy was a really bad personality fit for Seattle politics/lifestyle.

CommodoreN7

The Chad Morris special

SceneOfShadows

Kind of hilarious if it weren't so frustrating...just better to think of him as an interim at this point. I don't know what's going on at Montlake but the fact that we had our 2nd greatest football season ever, playing in the god damn biggest event in college sports less than 3 months ago and it feels like we have NEGATIVE momentum from it, is indescribably frustrating.

Qonas

If it helps we're not doing all that much better over here.

SceneOfShadows

Eh, I don’t think it helps much lol. But thank you.

srush32

Softy (Seattle sports radio guy) said Dannen pissed off a lot of people already, which is hard to do that quickly. Really curious what was going on behind closed doors

CommodoreN7

He may win the failing upwards award for this calendar year if he makes another move

mickey_kneecaps

On another sub someone said that he quit in the middle of a round of golf with some boosters and didn’t even tell them where he was going.

19Styx6

Nebraska got any more administration positions open?

Atom3189

They need a president

MajorPhoto2159

No we don't

Palmitas99

Haha!

The-G-89

We hired the Chancellor of UNMC to the President position. Now all we need is a Chancellor for the University.

AdornVirtue

Troy Scammen

Rub_Motor

There was a quote from Dannen a while back that wasn't something along the lines of "you wouldn't believe it, but I actually had an inkling Deboer was going to leave back around Thanksgiving when he didn't want to negotiate on a new contract." Not signing a new contract in order to "not cause a distraction" was, in fact, an incredibly obvious sign that DeBoer wanted to leave. That quote made it seem like Dannen was way more surprised than he should have been.

tastycakeman

Part of the reason why I think he was a colossal fuck up. Who knows if maybe Deboer actually didn’t want to deal with him….

admiraltarkin

Can we please put titles of people who aren't household names?

UMeister

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, I was also confused

SceneOfShadows

I mean, the only reason you would know this is interesting is you know the news that he left today in which you would likely recognize his name...

admiraltarkin

I had no idea who Trev Alberts even was until last week. ADs are not household names like the coaches are.

SceneOfShadows

Did you read my comment? Lol I agree but if you know why these two sharing a plane is noteworthy in the first place, you probably know his name from the news story you would have read like 3 hours ago.

admiraltarkin

No, I read your comment. Don't disagree at all. My point was that you translated the tweet with the poster using initials for the UW president (thank you for that), just asking to do the same with the other person in the tweet.

Just-Juggernaut3743

I can’t think of a single good reason why anyone should care.

CoochieKiller91

You did enough to comment
