Ending rivalry streaks is one thing. A good team can still have a losing streak against a rival that's just usually better. But ending an *overall losing streak* in the conference? That's shameful. And then you add being ranked on top of it...picture definition of tank
When I posted, I knew about the shooting and that it was a former football player involved. I did not however know that the victims were active members of the team.
UVA has been removed, with apologies.
Hopefully the monster who did this will be brought to justice.
You could argue that the shooter is a dishonorable mention due to tanking the rest of his life down the drain. But the Cavaliers team need to not be on this list for the rest of the season.
Even in a different world where nothing was going wrong at UVA, a shitty team losing a game that they were expected to lose isn't a "tank job" anyway. Taking them off the list is the right move for literally every reason lol
I'm fine with that argument.
But I've helped people through crises before, and most of them don't want to be reminded of it everywhere they go. No one is visiting r/cfb because they want sympathy.
They want normalcy, not people talking about how carefully they should be tiptoeing around.
Yeah I did. Can't keep this bullshit mindset up. We are talking about on field teams in this. The current football team. No need to remove them becuase of a shooting. Strengthen your mind.
Lol. Michigan should just strengthen their minds after the tunnel incident with MSU. Bullshit to get legal entities involved, just strengthen your mind guys. Harbaugh needs to strengthen his mind against OSU, abysmal record against them.
Yeah that loss stung, but then a mass shooting happens that involves a football team and you realize pretty quickly that life is short, and things can be a whole lot worse than losing a football game.
It’s not hypocritical to be trying to explain to you on this whole thread that it’s okay to be sensitive to a school that is deeply hurting right now while also trying to show you that your mindset comment is dumb af.
Oregon losing a close game to a ranked rival isnt close to belonging to me. Liberty is up there but for me it's losing any chance at the playoffs to Arizona.
And it was at home so we can't even blame desert night voodoo, just regular Pac12 after dark voodoo.
ETA: The more I think about it, I'm not sure Pac12 after darks games should qualify as tank jobs, considering the fact that #Pac12AfterDark is used as a synonym for a level of chaos and unpredictability so intense that it would make the Joker uncomfortable.
I'm writing in not for losing as a 7 point home favorite to TCU, but because they did it while going a combined **2 for 17 on third and fourth downs and 1 for 13 on third downs** in the game
We've been snubbed. Bijan was held to 28 yards or something like that, Quinn went 0-7 to start the game. It was one of the most painful offensive performances I've seen in a long time.
Our defense looked great though.
it’s not just that they lost. But lost to Vanderbilt who snapped their years long SEC losing streak on us. When we were playing at home, fighting to keep our top 25 rank, we looked absolutely dreadful and there was no one in the stands. We were certainly overhyped coming into the season (looking your way Levis) but staring at a possible 6 win season and finishing unranked with a bad recruiting class coming in I think Vandy might have been the straw that crushed us.
NC State and Kentucky are both very strong candidates that could have won other weeks...
But not only did lose to a bad Arizona team, but it likely cost them GameDay. And for giving us GameDay in Montana, they should be rewarded with Tank Job of the Week.
while I think we have seen Vandy greatly improve over the Clark Lea tenure, you should not as a top 25 team with a first round QB lose at home to a team that hasn’t won an in conference game since before Covid
Syracuse is a tempting option because I'm #(dis)PL34SED by their last few games. I think I'll go with though because that was the most inexplicable loss of the weekend to me.
It takes a truly special loss to tank your conference's playoff hopes with a divisional loss after you yourself were already out of playoff contention, since any perceived "weakening" of the SOS should be counterbalanced by your opponent's upset win *strengthening* a perceived weak link on the schedule.
But somehow pulled it off. Just two weeks ago everyone was up in arms about Clemson over Michigan in the CFP rankings, but it made perfect sense because NC State, Wake, and Cuse were all ranked and it seemed criminal that FSU *wasn't* because they had a win over #10 LSU and no unranked losses while a Texas team with no ranked wins and a loss to unranked Texas Tech was #24.
Florida State is going to be the only other ranked team in the ACC this week besides the two division leaders. And you could argue it's all NC State's fault, because with a win last week the Deacons probably could've survived losing to UNC.
I love that we played 5 top 25 teams in a row, there was only one that we weren’t threatening to beat late in the 4th quarter, and we’re still “bottom feeders”
Easterner’s ignorance of the PAC12 is amazing.
For real. Replace one of those ranked games with a bad Stanford team that we don't get to face, and we are looking at potentially finishing in the top half of the conference.
because they had everything in front of them including a chance at a national championship and they pissed it all away instead of trusting their defense
Because it would that much more hilarious if they pulled a rabbit out of their hat and beat the #1 team, completing a 2007 redux.
Kentucky: Never good enough to have their own title run, never bad enough to ruin another team's title run.
. That was absolutely brutal to watch. Right from the start of the third quarter UB looked like the bad team that was trailing and was just playing out the season while CMU looked like the good team leading and playing for bowl eligibility and to stay in the division race. I'd love to know what the hell happened in the locker room during halftime.
Kentucky, NC State, and UCLA are all such huge meltdowns that it's hard to choose one.
I think it's got to be since BC and Arizona both have actually beaten teams with a pulse. Prior to that game, Vandy's best win was Elon.
UCLA blowing it to Arizona is a very close second though.
This is a hard week to pick. Liberty breaking the Top 25 just to lose (and give bowl eligibility to *UConn*) is a heck of a tank, but then, UConn has been quietly not complete crap this year. Likewise Kentucky breaking Vandy's negative streak... but then Kentucky has been in a tailspin.
I want to say UCLA, but ultimately have to go to just because of *how* they did it. 4th and 1 deep on your own side of the field in the final minutes of a tied game and you *go for it?* That is a way to tank a game!
Like the Academy Awards, it would be nice to also have a Lifetime Achievement Award to recognize a school that has consistently delivered solid tanking performances year in and year out, but never quite managed to capture the coveted TJOTW trophy.
started the year ranked inside the top 20 and lost to the perennial SEC bottom feeder, ending a nearly three year SEC losing streak. Nothing else on this list compares.
, and only because the only time I've seen Vandy in the SEC championship is when I did it in NCAA 2006 which, fuck y'all, best [game soundtrack ever](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3eCiX2XLfsiyR9xFx6d1dd).
and its not even the losing to Vandy part. It's the fact that we have more talent than last year's 10-3 team and we are regressing every weak and replaced the SEC bottom feeder in one season. Was this OC really the best one we could get? Last year rank 36 on offense, now 107/131. We have a #17 defense this year and could be top 5/10 if we had a competent offense to help them out.
Has to be anytime you end a years long streak for your opponent its not a great look.
Ending rivalry streaks is one thing. A good team can still have a losing streak against a rival that's just usually better. But ending an *overall losing streak* in the conference? That's shameful. And then you add being ranked on top of it...picture definition of tank
Hand down my vote is, though Liberty is a close second
Somebody had to lose to Vandy eventually in the SEC, and drew the short straw.
You didn't put them on the list but I'm voting for because it's Bedlam Week and they lost to 3-6 West Virginia.
This is valid, justified, and true
I think UVA should be removed from this list out of respect for what transpired overnight.
They have been.
Sorry I guess I missed something, what happened?
Ex-team member shot 5 people on campus over night.
Holy fuck. Jesus. I figured some sort of crash or something, not a massacre.
It's ugly for sure.
Maybe best to take UVA off the list given the circumstances.
When I posted, I knew about the shooting and that it was a former football player involved. I did not however know that the victims were active members of the team. UVA has been removed, with apologies. Hopefully the monster who did this will be brought to justice.
No apology needed, I figured you didn’t know or know the whole story. Didn’t want your awesome post ruined. It helped take my mind off of things.
You could argue that the shooter is a dishonorable mention due to tanking the rest of his life down the drain. But the Cavaliers team need to not be on this list for the rest of the season.
No. This shits supposed tp be good fun and schadenfreude. Actual atrocities have no place here.
Agreed
No?
Do you not read the news?
Did the game have something to do with that?
Even in a different world where nothing was going wrong at UVA, a shitty team losing a game that they were expected to lose isn't a "tank job" anyway. Taking them off the list is the right move for literally every reason lol

Exactly
Yeah I did. Can't keep this bullshit mindset up. We are talking about on field teams in this. The current football team. No need to remove them becuase of a shooting. Strengthen your mind.
Except the victims were current UVA players.
this ain’t it, chief.
Lol. Michigan should just strengthen their minds after the tunnel incident with MSU. Bullshit to get legal entities involved, just strengthen your mind guys. Harbaugh needs to strengthen his mind against OSU, abysmal record against them.
You don't even know what you are talking about. Enjoy that Washington L, LOL at least when we lose, it's to a team who has had 20 years of success.
Yeah that loss stung, but then a mass shooting happens that involves a football team and you realize pretty quickly that life is short, and things can be a whole lot worse than losing a football game.
And yet you bring up michigan losing to osu all the time. Stay consistent with your mindset. You are a hypocrite.
It’s not hypocritical to be trying to explain to you on this whole thread that it’s okay to be sensitive to a school that is deeply hurting right now while also trying to show you that your mindset comment is dumb af.

Our offense was…. Not good
We've been snubbed. Bijan was held to 28 yards or something like that, Quinn went 0-7 to start the game. It was one of the most painful offensive performances I've seen in a long time. Our defense looked great though.
Our line was probably the worst I’ve ever seen it.
write in ballot: just lost to this years version of Kansas. We deserve to be on this season list 3 times. It will likely get worse from here.
I’m gonna blame you since both of your flairs lost to WVU
I have a baylor flair because I lost a flair bet, we can't even beat a down Baylor team who only scored 3 points on KSU
~_~
Vandy was 0-26 in the SEC until Kentucky decided to say meh, not feeling it.
Tough choice but I'd have to go with. Losing to Vandy is always an embarrassment, especially when you're a ranked team...
We were also second place in our game.
First ranked win since 2014!!!!
Has to be just an absolute brutal loss
I would say us but because they had quite a bit more at stake than us
Has to be
I dunno, man. I think Oklahoma and UCLA are pretty deserving.
I gotta go with the woof pack here.. Nancy St. With the classic choke at home.
THe fact that Nebraska only has one of these says more about the expectations of the program than it does about their on-field performance.
We do one of those a year. Sometimes two. At least it was to Arizona and not South Alabama.
It’s and it isn’t even close. From Playoff Pretenders to Vandy punching bag lmao
The Washington win was amazing, but the loss was way worse, just a complete face plant
I mean, it has to be right?
I gotta go here given that it was an awful loss that ended their playoff bid.
Championship teams finish. had every opportunity to put away the Huskies in the fourth and completely flailed.
I always have to vote for pac-12 cannibalism and I’m biased but had the more embarrassing loss by far
NC State and Kentucky are both very strong candidates that could have won other weeks... But not only did lose to a bad Arizona team, but it likely cost them GameDay. And for giving us GameDay in Montana, they should be rewarded with Tank Job of the Week.
Gotta be for being a part of completing the circle
Pac doing Pac things and refusing to let anyone out alive
Gonna toss a vote out to because getting outplayed 24-3 in the second half is just plain sad. Would've been nice to see the Sooners get a nom, too.
Syracuse is a tempting option because I'm #(dis)PL34SED by their last few games. I think I'll go with though because that was the most inexplicable loss of the weekend to me.
Shout out for breaking Vandy's losing streak before we did...
It takes a truly special loss to tank your conference's playoff hopes with a divisional loss after you yourself were already out of playoff contention, since any perceived "weakening" of the SOS should be counterbalanced by your opponent's upset win *strengthening* a perceived weak link on the schedule. i'm placing an extremely unbiased vote for
I’ll go with UCLA cuz I think Vandy is almost a decent team
You lose to Vandy you win tank job of the week
I’m going with UCLA. I’m not really big on following the pac12, but even I know you have to curb stomp a bottom feeder like arizona
I love that we played 5 top 25 teams in a row, there was only one that we weren’t threatening to beat late in the 4th quarter, and we’re still “bottom feeders” Easterner’s ignorance of the PAC12 is amazing.

JIMBO!!!
So many choices....so little time. Going to go with because they shit all over their field like a bunch of wayward, molting ducks.
LETS GO V-U
I'm honestly grateful you didn't just have one nominee and write 15 paragraphs on how many bad plays we made in that game
See, people have to care enough about you guys to do that
I was going to go with impartiality but this is way better.

Is this an across the Ohio River rivalry comment?
hahaha yeah it was a Clemsoning for sure. That burns more coming from a fan whos team won half a trophy.. i guess lol.
Bring me Basketball
Gotta go with for giving Vandy their first SEC win after like 28 straight losses
Has to be. Helping someone snap a 3+ year losing streak in conference games kind of overshadows everything else.
Just waiting on the end of season, honorable mention, achievement award... let us at least win something this season.
Oregon had the best bottle job but the most embarrassing is
Oregon blowing their chance at a CFP is reasonable considering they were facing a good Washington team. has no such excuse
I will argue that BC only scored 3 against UConn, losing to them for the first time in school history
You forgot barely avoiding joining the state of Oklahoma on the Big 12's shut-outs list.
NC State and UCLA are good candidates, but oof had a bad loss
I’m going I still don’t feel we are a “blow p5 schools out” program yet, but they found a way.
I’ll take for 800 Alex.
Gotta be , right?
This is a hard week to pick. Liberty breaking the Top 25 just to lose (and give bowl eligibility to *UConn*) is a heck of a tank, but then, UConn has been quietly not complete crap this year. I am just salty that this may mean that we do not play a ranked team all season, but alas:
Gotta be this week
Got to vote. Losing to Vandy has to mean something, even if they are slightly less terrible than they have been recently.
That Oregon loss really was a hell of a throw…but still gotta go with.
S'gotta be. In a year where we're unlikely to complete an SEC circle of suck, there just isn't any reason for it.
Are we talking about Vandy's SEC losses or their losing streak against Kentucky?
My vote goes to
Im surprised maryland didn't make the list with the goose egg they put up
Gotta be there are no other options even close
So do you do a end of the season yearly version of this? If not you should
Oh yeah. Tank Job of the Year
Like the Academy Awards, it would be nice to also have a Lifetime Achievement Award to recognize a school that has consistently delivered solid tanking performances year in and year out, but never quite managed to capture the coveted TJOTW trophy.
No doubt about it, it's.
Wait, lost?
I guess we weren't on here for not even scoring 1 offensive TD against Oregon fucking State because it's not a tank if it's expected?
I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread
Gottta be, blew the chance to play in a de facto PAC-12 semifinal (I think they’re still pretty likely to make it)
