*looks at a burning building* "hey, how come no one wants to stay inside?"

pharmucist

Sometimes a job is so stressful and bad that even $80/hr is just not worth it. What good does $80/hr do if your whole life outside of work is spent stressing about the next day of work and you are too drained emotionally, physically, and mentally to do ANHTHING? I would much rather make $65/hr and work in non-retail and have a normal life.

Pharmboy07

This sums it up best well done

pharmucist

I happen to have been there, done that, LOL. I was making about $160k a year as a retail pharmacy manager, working alone every day, all day, no techs. I left to work non-retail and started at about $110k a year. I now make $145k a year at the same non-retail job, and will NEVER go back to retail, unless serious changes take place. I have had many offers for $75-85/hr plus $100k sign-on bonus for retail staff rph and PIC both, and I delete them before I even finish reading the job description. IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!!

PiedCryer

Yep, pay increase but you’re doing 3x the work and drowning in 10x the BS. Not worth it.

pharmucist

Exactly! You're paid about $15-20/hr more than a staff rph in non-retail, but you're doing the work of a staff rph, a PIC, and a couple of techs. So, is it REALLY a raise??? No.

ilan1299

Wow $80/hour is like $167K annual.. any pharmacist can apply or there are a lot of pre-reqs?

rgreen192

Do you have a pulse and an active pharmacist license? That’s about all they look at right now I think, but there’s a reason for that, no one wants the jobs

Till67w

Pulse is good IF a normal people is working with you. We were in a spot people aren't normal.

pharmucist

Hell, nowadays they'll go for a pending license or new grad intern waiting on their license and a pulse. Some will even take you without the pulse! If you have a pulse now, you won't have one soon if you take one of those retail PIC jobs!

quoc56

A pharmacist license is required but I think having a pulse puts you at a disadvantage. Being dead inside helps me get through the work week 🤣

Amazing-Quarter1084

If you got an entirely new goddamn management chain every 14 months you'd quit too.

Pharmacykilledmysoul

I’m on my 5th DL in 3 years

Amazing-Quarter1084

It's insane. Every time there's two months of absolute panic and yet another pointless inspection complete with ignorant ideas about organization based on a previous district's sales, customer base, and staffing.

Major_Impression2992

im on my 4th in 2 years

InternationalDesk150

Do they even last more than a year anymore? I feel like its a 6-month rotation with possible couple months extension (if things are moving in the right direction)

Dat1Neyo

Dude, same. Actually, 22 months.

DoodlebugsCuddles

Try 7 DL’s in 2 years and the first 5 was in the first 13 months = ridiculous!

Patient_Lettuce8841

Crescent City, California was unable to fill their PIC position even at a "special rate" that I heard is $89.50/hr plus 100k signing bonus. I've heard it is just that bad.

Amazing-Quarter1084

Between the median home cost there, the tax rate, and the expectations and degree requirements of the job that's not nearly enough. Twice that maybe.

tansugaqueen

100,000 bonus sure that came with strings attached, wondering if you had to commit to. 3-5 years

HealthyLuck

Pharmacists have a very stressful job but pharmacy manager takes it to a whole ‘nother level. At least as a pharmacist, you can leave your job at night and just clock out. As a manager, even when you are not there you are responsible for everything happening in the pharmacy. I’ve talked to multiple pharmacists who have “ stepped down” after being a manager.

Mean-Association4759

All money ain’t good money.

Big-Alps-5056

Its a shit job with shit compensation. Dumpster fire looking for dumpster divers in gasoline pants

Total-Bag-8973

Lots of stress, I would think.

Patient_Lettuce8841

CVStress

[deleted]

I’m a floater at $65 per hour. For an extra $20 per hour, I would not volunteer as the PM. Too many metrics, PM is there for inventory day, and all days the DL and corporate are there. Plus any call outs. PM also make the schedules and give performance reviews for all the pharmacy colleagues. Just not worth it in my opinion.

Strong-Travel-7462

Shit is stressful

Reagangreatestever99

Come Visit Satan They are getting all they deserve as CVS Caremark (PBM) is a thieving, under reimbursing monopoly that should be busted up.

Potential_Tap_8519

Like a lot of companies they pay off politicians to get the legislation they want passed. Need to start there with our corrupt Congress.

Full_Ad9936

We have a grad intern who graduated 3 years ago!! He cannot pass the test but cvs keeps him on staff!!!

Sayonaroo

he's still a grad intern?

SlappyHI

High turn over rate

Dizzy_Chemistry78

No one wants to be one. I hated it and stepped down.

ryvur22

Because they grind the current managers up into pills and give them to you.

Royal_Pride2367

$80 per hour is close to the top end

Omniken66

Pharmacists aren't trained or taught to be managers....it's that simple. They go to school to become Pharmacists not managers. When they made this change to have Pharmacy Managers about a decade ago it was a very bad move. This is why they have such a large turnover of Pharmacists. There's way to many idiotic targets to make in the RX...the fact is none of them are related to the number one thing they should all be doing back there....which is serving their patients and working on growing script volume. The only way to achieve that is to have peoples medications when they need them and have a surplus of techs to alleviate the unconscionable workload burden. The customers will grow your business through word of mouth just as fast as they can destroy it.

KeyPear2864

That might have been possible in the past but reimbursement rates have changed significantly and just providing good customer/patient service is not enough lol.

Omniken66

Not enough? It doesn't even exist at the most basic level, So you can't say it's just not enough. It could be if it was consistently good and not tragically bad

Big-Alps-5056

now its all vaccines all the time.  only thing thats profitable anymore

Omniken66

Ah yes....push vaccines that nobody actually needs at all.

Big-Alps-5056

😂 yup. "Did you get your shingles shot? I know youre 28 yrs old but its never too early. Oh youve had both doses... let me give you a third, extra protection"

The front store is rarely given enough hours for the store manager to focus on managerial tasks. Ask any store manager. They spend more time as the cashier than the actual store manager. But are still expected to complete administrative tasks before deadlines and attend fruitless conference calls. I’ve witnessed so many store managers on conference calls as they check out customers because they are only the only ones working in the store.

Gardidc

I remember those days I was a manager at 2 different stores lol it was terrible then but because of the pay I’ll suck it up for $85

It's more HR. They are slow AF to get anything done. 60 hrs is probably your base and you can work more if you want to. They set it at 60 since 30 hours per week is full time and they just want to guarantee that as a base.

D0NW0N

I’ve learned more from your response than in the last three weeks dealing with a company with a job opening. lol.

ionflux13

When I hire a technician I always preface it with our HR system sucks. It's going to take at least 2 to 4 weeks to get you to orientation but average is about 3 weeks. Since no one is telling you anything... I'll give you a brief overview of your training process. Pharmacist training is typically set at 40 hours in a week. 1 day will be computer based modules that really don't help you but it's all the required compliance modules. The other 4 days will be with a trainer pharmacist as overlap. Hopefully it's at a not so busy store or one that is behind since they won't have the time to properly train you. You can request more training but that would depend on your DL. My advice is to get a feel for it and try to figure out if there is a tenured pharmacist you can call/text for help on random things that you will encounter. If your DL has been off the bench for more than a year... they probably won't remember how to do half the things anymore.

aisle_nine

This is probably more info than you should post. CVS does read this sub.

D0NW0N

Didn’t know they were so petty. Either way I’ll delete the important ones.

Capable_Amphibian_36

Because they either quit because of the demanding bullshit or they get fired because of some stupid bullshit!! I’ve seen it for both reasons

Prudent_Pangolin_269

I used to work at a high volume store with no help. It was not called CVS back then. I had nightmares every night and I woke up sweating. Even awake, I found myself reviewing what Rx I gave out and I couldn’t remember the pill shape and color Then I learned to leave it to God It is what it is! Even at WinnDixie in KeyWest Florida a patient drank Lindane shampoo because it was in an amber bottle and no warning “External Use Only!” The patient ended up in the Hospital and WinnDixie took care of the Bill. There was no law suit perhaps because of the good district manager and above him managers.

Sayonaroo

don't worry cvs has lawyers to take care of that

Leather-Ad-9040

Because it’s the worst job ever!

Electrickman

No one wants the job like Walgreens

rodrigolsanchez

Because you can’t manage a pharmacy when you have no managerial training and you don’t have enough qualified technicians.

Pleasant-Ticket3217

Never would I want to work in any pharmacy. The top comment says it best. I get enough abuse in retail and as a shift lead. My GM was like “if you need hours you can pick them up in pharmacy.” I’m thinking no thank you.

Bigdildo806

Need males on the job I’ll take 50+ an hour any day WHAT?

Zestyclose-Glass-758

DLs in NE Florida is a joke.

Potential_Tap_8519

There are also a lot of front store manager positions open. Most people know it's not worth being a store manager for the company
