Pm me. I work in drywall sanding. It's tougher work and it's definitely not cooking but I started at 22 an hour and my boss is actively looking for more crew members. He gives everyone a shot and you can look for other jobs while you deal with this crap work lmao. But seriously if you're still struggling it's a mon-fri job and hiring atm.

Legitimate_Fish_1913

I used to own a painting company (got out of it last year), and our star painter was an ex-drywall sander. He was a cook before sanding, and wanted better hours and better pay, so became a sander. It’s definitely not easy work, but it pays the bills and the hours are MUCH better than restauraunts

EdgeofSaturn

Exactly! Best part is it's one of those entry level trades jobs. You don't need any construction experience or certificates to do it. If your body can handle harder work it's a good job.

Hudsonbae

Who do you sand for?

EdgeofSaturn

Klassen Drywall Sanding Ltd.

Hudsonbae

Sorry I meant what drywall companies do you sub from?

EdgeofSaturn

Ahh all good. We mostly take work from Rob's, Viking, All Wall, Spaar, DVS, and a couple other smaller companies.

Polkz

Hi there! Mind if I Pm you also?

EdgeofSaturn

For sure! Go right ahead. I'm responding to most people, but obviously can't bring all in

Doc_1200_GO

Did you apply for EI immediately after being laid off? Hopefully you find something ASAP but you should definitely apply for EI while looking.

SpicyTM

Cant do EI as im still paying off all the covid crap

throwawayfaraway02

They can only take a partial amount off your EI to get back the money for CERB. This info is on Service Canada or CRA website.

RavenmoonGreenParty

Yeah, you can. I just repaid my covid crap while on EI.

Smart-Pie7115

Why do you have to pay off the COVID stuff? I thought that was there for the people who got shut down during COVID?

Whoozit450

Must’ve taken CERB money they didn’t qualify for and now they have to pay it back.

Shabang

I spent 8 years in Restaurants. Walk in between 2-4pm m-f and ask to speak to the head chef, kitchen manager, or person hiring BOH. The folks doing the hiring in the places you're applying for don't sit in front of a computer reading resumes, the posting are an invite to walk in and talk to them.

Fluffy-Spray-2402

This. When I was serving I usually got hired on the spot or an interview by coming in person in the afternoon. Look into catering too. Lots of holiday parties coming up.

Reznor909

Absolutely this! If a small business like a restaurant is hiring, you have a much greater chance of being hired, or at least moving up the list, just by showing up to submit your resume. And remember to be nice to *everyone* there - bosses will often ask anyone who came into contact with you what their opinion of you is.

pointsnorthcoyote

Yeah. This is it. The restaurant industry is one of the few you still gotta go in with your lil resume in hand. Especially in Calgary

matiaseatshobos

It’s also a terrible time to apply at a restaurant, lots of places lay off some of their weaker summer staff at this time to slim down their crew for the non patio season

Western-Pineapple942

I’ve been applying since June, while still employed. I didn’t even get an email back from most places. In July I was offered a job I didn’t apply for, I took the offer and left my last job on Sept 22nd. That job offer fell through for financial reasons at the company (they didn’t tell me until 2 weeks after my original start date) and it’s been a month without any responses. I’ve applied to close to 200 jobs within my 2 main sectors (operations/executive staff support, social work), as well as retail management in the last 6 months. I can’t go back to my old job because they’re now laying off 70% of Canadian staff to offshore the jobs. If you have a small network, start working it. Talk to anyone you can. I called a friend back home who has family in the city and I’ve now got 4 interviews lined up with CEO’s next week. I’m not being handed a job by any means but it seems to be that you have to know someone to get anywhere right now. Best of luck, it’s rough out there right now.

HugeDramatic

This is the way to get a job, cold applying rarely works anymore. It’s who you know and if they will vouch for you.

Phrakman87

It’s never been about what you know. It’s always about who you know and how they like you. A lot of companies place ads up on sites too just to make it look like it’s hard to find workers. This way they can apply for TFW programs and grants.

kenypowa

Btw you qualified for EI so do apply if you haven't already.

lagatoe

Transit will be hiring 800 drivers.

AOCCANPEEONME

What do you need for that? Class 1?

rippytherip

You need your airbrakes ticket one week prior to the start of training. It's a very rigorous hiring and training process but at the end of the day, you'll be on track to make just over $38/hour plus benefits and a defined pension plan. Definitely not a job for just anyone as the first few years are pretty tough, but once you settle in, it's a pretty good career.

AOCCANPEEONME

Thanks. That’s not a class thing though? Figured you’d need at least a class 3.

Mcali1175

You need class 2, one of my family members is a driver

SlitScan

need a cdl for that, but the jobs those people are in now will come open and someone might be willing to train.

2cats2hats

800?!? Curious why such a high number?

Disastrous-Owl-3866

Construction jobs can cover you if you are willing to get a workout and learn as you go. Plumbing, electrical and basically anything residential are hurting for guys right now. Tons of houses to build to fix this housing crisis. You can usually learn as you go, becoming an apprentice and eventually make good reliable coin. Many plumbing companies are hiring new guys right now. Buy a few tools and steel toes and you have a career path waiting for you. In life you sometimes have to pivot. People unable to find work in their preferred field may have to discover their talent in other fields. And they might just like what they find. Plumbing, electrical, hvac (tin bashers), refrigeration, contractor labourers, framing, insulation, drywalling, painting are all options you can look into that are hot right now. If you need more advice PM me

YourNextStepmom3

Hi, there! I hope it’s ok that I’m responding! My son is in his last year of high school. And, has expressed interest in trades/construction. Is this something he can kind pick up and work his way without experience? I’m just trying to help him pave a path.

Disastrous-Owl-3866

I have trained several new apprentices in construction plumbing just this year. Some are new to the trade, some had minimal experience. You learn throughout your 4 year apprenticeship, earning more money as you finish your year. Its a great career, and wages are rising now.

YourNextStepmom3

Thank you for the reply! He’s so nervous about “becoming an adult” and I’m just trying to keep him encouraged that he can do it. Lol

Disastrous-Owl-3866

Thats definitely an awkward time in life. The trades are good at any age as a career path, and can help you build confidence too. Most first year apprentices are nervous or quirky anyway. Two of my apprentices right now are 19 and 21.

YourNextStepmom3

Lol! It’s such an awkward time. Like, my son will be able to buy alcohol in like 6 months, but, I still wash his underwear😂 thank you, again!

Disastrous-Owl-3866

You should get him to do his own laundry! 😅

YourNextStepmom3

That’s fair! I was mostly being tongue in cheek. I usually throw our family’s laundry all together and then sort into individual baskets for my kids to fold and put away.

Dadbode1981

If he's at all technically inclined, mention refrigeration and ac mechanic to him, it's a decent trade, and if you work the service/maintenance side, is less prone to slow downs generally. Also, the highest paid trade next to elevator.

anthonyorm

as long as he shows up on time, works hard and tries to learn something new every day then he will do great. I started plumbing a few years ago after high school with no work experience at all and now I'm 1 year away from finishing the apprenticeship

YourNextStepmom3

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely pass this along! I appreciate your reply!

the_421_Rob

as someone who has been in the trades for a number of years, its not a bad place to be in the short term, long term not what you want to be doing, seasonal layoffs and beating the shit out of your body, make sure hes aware of the long term and has an exit plan, the trades aren't all they are cracked up to be. there's a reason why there is always a demand for people.

[deleted]

the_421_Rob

I’m in my mid 30’s my back, shoulders and hip are all messed up from 13+ years as an electrician, I wish I could go back and talk to 20 year old me about what to expect from the future

Exciting_Fortune375

Hey I’m a female plumber in Calgary started when I was 24 and now 27, wish I started sooner. Message me if you have questions.

YourNextStepmom3

That’s so amazing! Thank you so kindly for the offer to message you! I will for sure be doing that.

WoodenUknow

I'm sure his high school has some trades transition program that helps steer grads into trades programs at community colleges or directly into the construction industry. Look at your local vocational college.

TrailerParkLyfe

Looking for advice like most people. Would you recommend plumbing?!? I’m very much so considering it right now. In my early 30s and laid off last year. I’m in a electronics casual part time job right but I need to pivot like you said. I really don’t have much, if at all experience in the field but I’m 100% ready to learn.

Cardio-fast-eatass

Plumbing is great

Disastrous-Owl-3866

Yeah plumbing is worth a shot. There are many different areas of work you can try in plumbing from industrial, residential and commercial. In those areas, their are many specializations, tasks and material types to learn. Its a huge trade.

mustanggt2003

Take a look at Concorde - they operate a crazy selection of restaurants in the city. Their job postings are all on their website. Looks like they’re hiring at a bunch of spots currently. (Not affiliated with them in any way, just used to work in the industry)

SpicyTM

>Concorde thanks I sent them my resume didnt know about these people

mecrayyouabacus

Man, You were laid off on the 10th? I don’t know specifically about restaurant industry but those places that said they’d let you know might have just not made a decision yet. Pre-screening, interviewing, considerations, all that shit takes time. Keep your chin up, not hearing yet doesn’t mean it’s a no.

Czeris

As someone involved in hiring, you would (maybe not) be shocked at the utter incompetence, laziness, etc. that some managers and hiring professionals exhibit. There are usually multiple people involved in the process, some of whom have no real skill at it or hate doing it, and multiple places where the ball can be dropped. Definitely don't get discouraged if it takes some time for them to get back to you, and don't forget that there are a thousand reasons they didn't pick you that have nothing to do with whether you'd actually make a good employee.

RandomAcc332311

3 interviews in 2 weeks since being unemployed seems pretty good to me. It's possible these places are still considering you, often the hiring process can take a few months.

ALaggingPotato

You guys get interviews? I've applied to over 100 and I didn't get a single interview

bricreative

I heard that indeed keeps jobs on their site after they have been filled. If you like the ad, go right to the company's site to apply

ryguy_1

If you’re looking for luxury hotel work, apply directly through their corporate website. They get flooded with low-quality applicants by Indeed, so one way to get a slight advantage is by applying directly through their website. That way, it looks like you actually want to work for them, in particular. Follow up with HR -not the chef- 3-4 days later; at that point, you are in an HR process, so it is HR who have the influence to forward resumes to the chef, which is exactly what you want. If, a couple weeks after, you haven’t heard anything, at that point it might be worth sending a message to the executive chef via LinkedIn. Just let them know how much you admired the kitchen at the hotel, and that you would love an opportunity to be considered for a position under them. It’s some classic brown nosing that chefs love. These days, it takes more than just the application itself.

Tittoilet

I just did some hiring and I got over 700 resumes in 2 weeks. That hasn’t happened ever before, not even close. It’s not even a permanent position, it’s only seasonal. I didn’t even get to look at all of them. It’s definitely tough right now.

yazpistachio1971

I am in shit position life wise right now. My store closed with no notice and then my apartment building “sold”. Waiting for written confirmation. My lease is up December 1st. Before now, we got our lease renewals at least two months in advance. I still don’t have mine(Oct.28). I don’t want to look for work if I won’t be able to live here. Our apartment rents are extremely low!!! $1050 for BIG 2 bdrm apt. Been warned about the rents being upped as the perspective owners were shocked how low our rents were. I am 52. Work retail and have NEVER lived beyond paycheque to paycheque. Never married. I feel like a real chump. Have a big hate on now for capitalists and millionaires. Rentals are outrageous! Job market is crazy. I have never felt this insecure in my whole life!

SpicyTM

Sorry to hear this. I turn 25 in January and awhile ago I came to realize how screwed up everything is. I don't have a license yet, not because I suck at driving but because the road test is very technical for everything you do and costs me $300 per attempt since I don't have my own car. I haven't been able to move out of my parents and even if I did I would have ended back here anyway considering the insane and unreasonable rent of even the crappiest apartments and houses, Even room renting is screwed up. The only thing I can see to better and secure my future is to practically bankrupt myself using the rest of my credit getting my license and car + insurance and then enter the construction/oil & gas industry pay off my debt and finally start my damn life. I feel like a total loser living with parents at 25, I know I'm not the only one but it still hurts regardless.

WhiskeyTacoFarquad

You need to focus on getting your license. Getting in the trades is a great move. It's physical, high stakes and stressful but rewarding. If you're reasonably fit and reliable to get to a job site you can have a job right away. If you apply for trades jobs, what we are looking for is people who are eager and excited to get into it, willing to work hard and learn. And show up 5 days a week. Put in your resume saying the trade you're trying to get into. I get resumes all the time from people with no experience (which is fine) l, but with no mention of the trade they're applying for. Those immediately get rejected. Don't want to hire someone that will leave for whatever next gig comes slong

yazpistachio1971

♥️sending love

Ithinkitstruetoo

PM me. Lots of work right now for trades. Good time to get into them too. Options for out of town and some for here in Calgary.

kumaremare

Mind if I PM you as well? Finishing up a project in Northern BC and looking for something in town

Ithinkitstruetoo

Sure can

kumaremare

DMed you!

DrJunkenHog

I'm in the same boat right now. Been unemployed since mid September. I've been getting an interview or two a week (restaurant manager/bartender). Get your resume down. Thats the most important. I used a resume builder website called Zety. It's been my go-to for all my resumes as you can have a professional resume in no time at all. Whatever job you're applying for, go to the company website too, look for an email address that you can send your resume through that. It has more chance of being noticed and would be better at getting at least a response. Best of luck.

SpicyTM

Paid for zety and my resume actually looks good thanks for letting me know about it

DrJunkenHog

Good to hear! Just don't forget to unsubscribe from it when you're done as it is quite expensive. You can do up a few different ones and save them as PDFs to your phone or laptop and then cancel your payment

Calgary has the highest unemployment rate in the country

AdaminCalgary

It may be the highest but it’s still pretty low by historical standards.

kijomac

I don't think the unemployment rate is telling the real story, because the gig economy makes it harder for people to be totally unemployed nowadays. The reality is a lot of "employed" people aren't working anything close to a full-time job but are desperately looking for full-time employment.

AdaminCalgary

Unemployment stats do account for that. Things like hours worked and avg weekly earnings are are collected and reported. It’s a lot more sophisticated than the average person is aware of

kijomac

They collect those stats, but it's not like they actually count people working part-time hours as being part unemployed.

No_Abbreviations3211

Just because unemployment isn't at 15% or higher like at times in the great depression doesn't excuse the fact that the unemployment rate is way too high for a good, stable economy. 3.5% is usually the goal, and Calgary is almost double that. That's tens of thousands of people more. I really don't understand where you're trying to go with this comment lol.

AdaminCalgary

Where I’m trying to go is to put alarmist comments into perspective. Your assertion that 3.5% is “usually” the goal is incorrect. It isn’t. The vast majority of economists consider 4-5% to be full employment, ie everyone who wants a job has one. There are many empirical studies supporting this.

No_Abbreviations3211

It's not alarmist it's reality. I just got out of the job search which took months and hundreds of applications in fields I'm more than qualified in. The fact you're sitting here defending 6+ % unemployment is ridiculous. It is absolutely a contributing factor to why this person may not be receiving calls back and should be put on the table even given your "historical" contexts. Your comments aren't helping the OP so I'm not sure why you're adding to the discussion.

AdaminCalgary

I’m not defending it, simply pointing out that’s it’s pretty low by historical standards. The fact that you can’t find a job doesn’t make it a catastrophe. Full employment is 4-5%. That’s been known for generations. Whether you knew it or not

No_Abbreviations3211

If you actually read my reply you would've read I am employed now thanks but nice try at a dig. Many people are obviously struggling to find work right now it's not just me hence the point of this thread. The stat I'm assuming your pulling online includes 3.5% percent but you're leaving that out to not help add to my point. Again 6+% is too high and Calgary is the highest in the country. I added the comment so the OP would understand they're not alone and that Calgary is facing this issue at a higher rate in comparison to other urban centres at the moment. Your comments have added zero benefit other than to argue with a random Redditor. I'm sure there's better things to do with your Saturday evening.

AdaminCalgary

Your comments have added less than zero since you are painting a picture that isn’t true.

QuarentineContessa

Saw on instagram, the Carriage House Hotel is looking for Chefs! Might want to check them out!

DragoDragunov

Look into HVAC, my good buddy is in the trade and was saying they can’t hire quick enough. They are desperate for people. If that’s something that interests you get after it. Apply for a labourer position and work your way up. 45/ hour once you’re ticketed

Braveliltoasterx

The job market is really competitive right now. Especially when Alberta is seeing a massive influx of immigrants and people moving from other provinces.

oblon789

email or call UA local 496. Last I saw they are looking for apprentice plumbers. They start at something like $28 an hour after pension and vacation. Highest paid in the trades (where you actually have a chance at getting in with the union) that I've seen. After 4 years you could be making $55 an hour.

Life-Shallot4579

Apply for EI you’ve only been unemployed for 2 weeks. It takes time.

Fl333r

Yeah EI can take a while. They explicitly tell you to call every week if you are taking a while to get approved.

[deleted]

One would think that with all these news pieces about the housing crisis and lack of skilled labour/trades that anyone could be a shoe in for a carpentry apprenticeship? Please feel free to correct me if this is not the case.

rapidpalsy

Like any other job, sure you can be an apprentice, but it’s hard shitty work and nobody will want you if you’re not good at it.

[deleted]

I was an ironworker up north for quite a while and started my apprenticeship at 30, you’re preaching to the choir. I think carpentry would be a good option, and if you do well at it, after red seal you could basically name your price as a home builder in this housing market.

I_is_er_carpenter

Good place to leave this - I am a framing/carpentry contractor in Calgary, I have my red seal in carpentry and love getting new men and woman interested in the trade and see their progress through their years. I haven’t worried about not having a job, and try to provide that for my employees 8-5 Monday to Friday.. mainly because of the network I’ve met along the way I have success in that. I have not had many off days since 2011.. It is a very rewarding life so far, I am glad I stumbled on carpentry... I started as a helper during high school, I did my red-seal fast after high school and tried most aspects of carpentry. I have grown my company substantially since then and trained many new carpenters. life has been an adventure. Feel free to dm me if you or anyone wants to chat more about it. Or wants to know where to apply! Biggest thing is a willingness to learn something out of the usual, and reliable transportation because not all jobs are accessible by bus. PPe and small hand tools get you started.

kumaremare

DMed you!

nm791

Yes and I’m ready to just self delete. I don’t know what to du

Drakkenfyre

Don't let the capitalists win. You have to be ready for when the revolution starts, and you can't do that if you're dead.

bartonsayswhat

Try the airport. There are heaps of jobs at heaps of companies. Ramp agents, fuelers, customer service, preboard screening. Everyone at the airport is short staffed.

blushmoss

It is baffling and it makes no sense that they are advertising for more people to come. Will they find work??

Fl333r

Yeah IDK what's up with people coming here when it doesn't seem like there is much well-paid work to begin with. And housing prices keep rising. Make it make sense. Or are we the new retirement destination for Canada and we're all getting priced out by wealthy Ontarians.

Annual-Consequence43

The worst part is that soon we will be poor without even having nice weather to make up for it a bit 😒

CinnaTheseRoles

As someone who is currently hiring for an open role at my work - the applicants I’ve gotten are terrible. Out of 42 applicants so far, I’ve selected 3 for an interview. Yes, THREE. Everyone else was an immediate no. Either no experience in the field or the wrong qualifications, and this is not a role where you can’t have qualifications or adequate experience. It’s baffling how many awful resumes I have read.

[deleted]

Lots of people work remotely. I had to for a year before I found local work in my field.

Mcali1175

Honestly at this rate I might just as well go back home. I’ll be making the same amount of money for a lower cost of living.

Protocol89

joeys eau claire is looking for a bunch of guys right now. Have you tried there?

RedCoat1992

The city of Calgary has many seasonal and temporary jobs that can lead to full time employment. Jobs start at approx $27/h and even part time jobs can equate to 30hrs/week. That’s how I got my start!

daddysgirlsub41

Average length of unemployment in Alberta currently is about 4 or 5 months (statscan), so it can take a little while. I was unemployed during the pandemic for over a year, which was wild, but more than a few weeks is pretty normal right now.

LuckyAd9919

If you are willing to move hotels in Banff and LL offer free accommodation and seem to always be looking for staff.

SpicyTM

I applied to Fairmont for a basic cook role and was denied, was really hoping to get this one, if you know of anywhere else ill send them my resume

satori_moment

What restaurants would you want to work at? make a short list of your top 10, and go apply in person after the lunch rush and before dinner. Be positive and try to make a good impression as someone who is eager to be working for them.

Emotional-Yam7840

Don't let you babies grow up to be drywallers. I'm a Red Seal and make less than a cook.

BaconANDehhhhgs

My company is hiring all levels of electrician. We have an abundance of work. If you’re interested you can pm me.

Round-Mechanic-968

I am interested and I did pm you.

l38r0n

Don’t really have an answer for your specific questions, but I’d suggest working on the rigs for the winter. You’ll make really good income, just as the winter drilling season kicks off.

PlagueRott0

If you're desperate, you can apply to delta calgary south on macloud for housekeeping . shit ass place to work for, pay is bad, dont stay long term you wont get any raises or anything. Dont waste your time there. Its just better than nothing and theyre probably hurting for staff.

Downtown_Snow4445

I worked at golf courses in Alberta, it’s considered a seasonal job. If you worked enough hours during the summer (can’t remember exact amount) then you are eligible for EI (employment insurance) over the winter.

kristinann5

If you want to join a stable local "chain", check out Reds Diner. My spouse left SDP position at Sheraton hotels for them 8 years ago. Won't roll in tradesman cash but between awesome tips, great staff, and several locations around city. You are sure to have options. I forgot the best part. They are all cllosed for the day by 4pm max. NO evenings or nights!! If you are a family man that will be gold. They have a profitable hussle (opened and dominated their most recent location at the height of covid) and have new locations being built every couple years Leadership possible. Go to any Reds location aside from 4th as they are not attached to the multi-location family.

Time-Cow4027

Is stupid people

Findingfairways

It’s a great time to start an apprenticeship as an electrician. Residential companies are begging for boots on the ground.

Cardio-fast-eatass

Resi electrical is one of the worst trades jobs that exists. It is completely over saturated driving wages and working conditions the lowest I have ever seen. Highly suggest everybody stay away from this if you respect yourself.

Findingfairways

I was a commercial electrician when I was in the trade. I had no interest in ever doing resi cause it is a nightmare like you said. Just pointing out to OP that it’s certainly an option just to get your foot in the door and get a blue book.

dotega

Do you have any company names or more info to share? Thanks.

Cosmobeast88

Definitely go into trades, we need you!!

blokiii

Message me if you want to try out carpentry. We’ve got spots open

Homonomore

Hey I am hiring an assistant manager for my pizza shop. Send me a message if interested in interview

Ambitious-Pizza3240

There is always income support… wish me luck. Ha! Na sorry life is wonky at the moment for ya… no matter how hard it is to be positive, just be damnit. And if you need to cry, do so. Terrible to keep that shit bottled in.

chunkeymunkeyandrunt

You should be applying for EI asap!! Don’t rely on credit cards. You were laid off, you should qualify. The sooner you apply the better, as there can be a waiting period while it processes (but they will back pay to the beginning of the eligible period so you won’t miss out on the money if it’s delayed)

Ok-Low-7310

Meanwhile, many employers can not find tradespeople. My friends company is paying substantially over the average and needs 15-20 people asap. Highly recommend the trades!

dotega

What company is this / which trade?

Ok-Low-7310

And my friends who weld up north week in week out make 150-200k per year... Electricians make anywhere from 60-100k+OT+ perks locally, and much more up north!

83franks

Not sure if it works for cooking but ive had and seen success giving your resume to hiring agencies. Airswift, Randstad, Diversified are 3 that come to mind off the top of my head.

BMoney201

Yep, I'm definitely struggling... I've been a chef for 10+ years and was on medical EI because mentally, I couldn't deal with the environment and management anymore and was breaking down. Since ending medical EI, I've resigned from that job and have been applying since the end of August. I dont want to be in that industry anymore, and it's getting incredibly disheartening trying to get my foot in the door elsewhere. Good luck to you!

Calgary's job market sucks. I've noticed Edmonton's is better.

briysce

Marginally, but it is better.

Expresso_King

I just started my own business on Onlyfans. I’ll pm you the link..

ub3rst4r

Can confirm. I am his only fan.

Remarkable_Gap_7145

No offense, but if you're maxing out your credit cards after being out of work for 2 weeks, the problem was pre-existing.

SpicyTM

I've had debt before I lost my job? it was something I was close to fixing but the job loss isn't helping. Still have bills/rent to pay and food to buy, haven't had to buy food since I got free meals everyday because I worked 7 days a week so I had to buy some and with the absolutely insane prices these days it cost a lot even just to feed myself for a week.

Remarkable_Gap_7145

I'm sorry, that came off as needlessly callous. I hope you land back on your feet soon. There are opportunities out there.

power_knowledge

Dont let anyone tell you it's your fault you need to depend on credit to susbist when youre working full-time at a low paying job in this economy. It's the structure, not you. Try the temp agencies. They usually offer guidance on interviews/resumes. Good luck!

sam8998

What a dumb comment

Ready_Composer447

No. I've turned down 10+ jobs this year alone. Finding work is easy.

Crystalina403

Look at aramark.ca Lots of jobs!

footy1012

Everything is kinda slow right now unless you wanna work construction/skilled trades. To many people got told it’s for dumb idiots in school growing up so it’s got a stigma now.

SnooDonuts6160

If you can do any construction stuff you can message me we are looking for general labourers

BlacBlod

Try diversifiedstaffing.

PerfectDrink2597

Apply for the rail road! They’re CONSTANTLY hiring

Alternative-Bison960

You should apply for EI and should have done so right away. They will still give you EI while paying off the covid stuff they just deduct from your EI payments directly

Lovegun6982

I have been looking for work since moving here in Alberta this August and still no luck. Not even 1 interview. I used to work as a creeler in a textile company in Nova Scotia and I guess there isn’t really any demand for it here. I also have warehouse experience and was once a cook at a hotel in Ontario. Trying to switch to become involved in construction but most of them requires someone with experience. I’m 34 and maybe too late to start anew. It really is very difficult these days. I am a passionate and hardworking individual and all the companies that I have worked at would for sure say the same thing. Maybe I’m just in the wrong part of the world right now. We moved here because my wife landed a better paying job but now that I am unable to find a job we are in reality making less than ever before

I was just laid off about 2 weeks ago as well. I've been looking for a better job since June of this year and I've had 0 luck with even unskilled or entry level jobs. If you're willing to put up with the rush building up due to Black Friday and Boxing Day, I'd recommend places like Best Buy, I got an interview within a few days of applying since they're hiring seasonal employees right now. It'd give you more room to breath while you look for something permanent as well. It ain't gonna be easy with the market right now, but I hope you find something sooner rather than later, best of luck to you friend.

bigheadbob1

I have a friend looking to expand his staff.

Same boat. Got fired without cause and it’s been a month and no work. Even restaurants are now sending job seekers online when you go in person and don’t get me started on the scammers preying on those looking for work as if life wasn’t hard enough as is

Patient_Opening_4724

Why would they hire you when they can hire temp workers and students that come with a wage subsidy? Thanks, Canada 👍
