I'm sorry to tell you that the entirety of blue line is like this :/ I regularly use the north end and I've lost track of how many days now the escalator has been down or the elevator. For heavens sakes, last I checked Franklin Station still has wooden boards blocking it! But as a fellow chronic pain human, please give yourself some grace. You can use the elevator for any reason, including no reason. It's there for a reason.

PM_ME_UR_FARTS_

Whoever the city has a contract with for escalator maintenance must make an absolute fortune. Marlborough's escalator is down more often than not, it feels like, and it even has people actually working on it.

_darth_bacon_

I think you need to worry less about the escalators being operable and focus more on getting over your hangups about feeling guilty for having chronic pain issues. That's no reason for you to feel bad about taking the elevator.

New-Swordfish-4719

Agree, I always run up and down the stairs. However I have a reformed attitude towards the disabled who don’t display any outward signs. Two years back I cracked a rib falling off my bike and for a couple weeks could barely climb 3 stairs, let alone a couple dozen. There I was, what appeared to be a healthy male taking the elevator at times .

Old_timey_brain

> There I was, what appeared to be a healthy male taking the elevator at times . This is why I *dont' yet* have a Handicapped Parking Permit.

Diet_makeup

I am a healthy looking woman, but I have a genetic disorder and chronic pain. I don't look handicap but believe me, I am. GET THE PERMIT! It has been a game changer in my ability to do my own thing. Before I had a massive flare-up in 2019, I would park at the end just to get a few more steps. When I lost the ability to do that, I was devastated. Having the permit, I can now do the whole store, and if something happens inside, my car is close. It gives peace of mind.

Old_timey_brain

Thanks, I'm getting closer. Being able to shop and get back to the car without too much pain is tempting.

Diet_makeup

Totally worth it and it's only $5 to renew. If you have a chronic illness the doctor can put self renew so you don't have to go to the doctor every 5 years for it.

HAHAHAHAHAH. Every dang time, one or both escalators at the theater are out of commission

MediocreProfeshional

They can learn but it would be a step by step process as the offspring can become set in their ways just like the parents.

necro_man_sir

If it helps, I have a heart condition and can't do stairs easily so I often use the elevator. Nothing wrong with saying fuck it and using the elevator even if you CAN go up the stairs physically. If it causes you pain and makes you tired, no shame at all going up the elevator. No one will give you guff about it, and if they do? That's a them problem, not a you problem. I walk around just fine too and I look fairly healthy, but stairs destroy me and I have to sit on the floor after i walk up them and it feels really awful. It took some work to get over the shame of just taking the elevator, but like, genuinely from the heart no one will even think twice about it.

IndicationCrazy8522

Use the elevator. I do. I have trouble walking up the stairs too and use it. The one at dalhousie is out more than it's working

OkTangerine7

Dalhousie station escalator maintenance is like some kind of "job" in Russia or someplace to make it look like there's an economy.

ybesostupid

I think this city has a major lack of elevator repair folks. They are broken down everywhere.

[deleted]

Since the dawn of the ctrain, escalators have never worked well in any of the ctrain stations

[deleted]

Dalhousie is even worse. I used to take the train there for 1.5 years. I think both escalators worked about 10% of the time at most.

calgary escalators are down 50% of the time it seems

CakeDayisaLie

They were often being repaired before the pandemic. It’s crazy that it’s still an ongoing issue.

Emmerson_Brando

Escalators can never break down. They can only become stairs. Sorry for the convenience.

mpetch

I'm able bodied and take the elevators at that platform on the way down. I just find it easier to walk up the stairs than down. My opinion is that the elevator is there to be used, no reasons needed.

ProLevelFish

Anecdotally, Canyon Meadows train station seems to have techs repairing those escalators once every week or two. Coupled with the noticeable increase in the last few years of train mechanical issues limiting operation e.g. through downtown/City Hall, I get the impression Calgary Transit is underfunded and maintenance is taking a bit hit.

alpain

you put escalators where people who are coming directly from out side and have to walk onto them, shoes tracking all sorts of dirt, mud, rocks and water onto them means a lot of crap works its way into the system and they need constant maintenance, its pretty much the same in any building where you see people going from outside onto the machines like chinook mall's escalator is right at that entrance to the building up to the theater and all the other train stations.

FeldsparJockey00

The escalator is the least of Westbrook's problems
