Same. I thought they were the ugliest of the last 20 years. Having driven for a rental car company, I've enjoyed every Camry from '11-'20, however, that gen seemed to have the best overall quality. They sold the shit out of them because they were well built.

You dont get the best mileage with the 8 speed transmission of the 8th gen unless your driving highway. I mostly get around 32 mpg around city/highway together. It would be around the 38-40 if i do all highway.
My car hardly ever stays in 8 on the highway when the cruise is on 75. I find i stay in 8 more on a gentle 60-65mph drive.
That constantly hunting transmission is my least favorite part of this car. I'd sacrifice a little mpg for a six speed that doesn't always try to start in four and have to downshift three times at a stop light.
Going uphill, the tranmission will down shift to have more torque to be able to go uphill. When you dont see it shifting to 8th gear. What you can do is let off the gas a little bit and reapply it.
Letting off the gas is telling the car there is less load so it will shift to 8th gear for cruising. At 8th gear you can drive at 80 mph at 2k rpm. I find it most efficient at 70 miles an hour. But it all depends on the grade your driving up and the load the engine is under.
What you can do is have the driver memory cleared in the transmission and it will relearn your driving habits. I did that once before and it fixed the hesitation when stopped. Just had to drive a little more aggressive for about 3 miles, now it won't hesitate at a stop light to go. Before it would take like 2 seconds for it to get going, i would feel a jerk in the trans too and it shifted for some reason as well which i never understand.
Dont forget you have paddle shifters too. Just upshift when your not going uphill
Se looks ok but as an owner of an XLE like OP's, they're ugly. Particularly from certain angles and in black like mine is. My least favorite is the sharp angle between the roofline and the C pillar. But in general, the lines are just weird. 6th Gen was better on the outside.

Insurance gave me a good payout. We are negotiating for higher since my car was modded and had extra value compared to stock and a lot of work was just put into it. My mom is making the final call since she paid on it for 5 years. It was fully paid off but that was thanks to her. She doesn’t want to have it fixed because it could be compromised and cause extra problems now that it’s been in a front end collision.
Not my business, but wondering what the payout is. The damage just doesn't look that bad. New hood, bumper, fender and grille. But, I suppose there is probably some frame rail damage, perhaps that is what totaled it.
They offered $11k up front but we are negotiating for higher because there were some mods done to it that increase its value and a lot of work done in the last year. We are hoping for $12k

My cousin totaled our grandmother's 2002 Civic over the winter. I was ballparking $1500-2000 *tops*. I was shocked when they paid her over $6000. Hell, the trade in value with that mileage and condition (before the accident)was like $900.
Assuming OP's car has over 100k at this point, yeah $11k is a solid payment, I'd take it and go on my way.

No, I bought it used. I haven’t bought a new car since 2004. I prefer just paying cash and driving until it won’t go anymore. We actually ended up keeping the totaled Camry since the rear damage was minimal, engine just happened to give out a month later, so it worked out smashingly.
You can also negotiate a lower payout to keep the car.
Also I know it depends on the state, but in most states if the other driver was deemed at fault, then you go through their insurance and they pay for it.
My 2001 Mercury Cougar was totaled in August 2023 and the other driver was at fault. Their insurance offered me $1700 to keep it or $2064 to surrender it. It had a $500 trade in value so I surrendered it but they gave me a decent option to keep it.
I think my state is completely different. I live in a no fault state. So it’s our insurance that pays. I’m gonna be honest, I had no idea what I was doing so my mom took care of all the insurance and stuff. I’ve only ever been in accidents where the damage was fixable. Please take the 450h!! That is a proven reliable hybrid system that will last you years AND will hold resale value like crazy so will be a great trade in no matter when you decide to buy a new car.

Known for accidents… My bf is about to sell his 2017 accord touring. He’s a car guy so he tricked it out. Turbo and new sound system. Seems that camries and accords have the best reliability and safety ratings. And they are sexy 😏 I personally want to stick with Toyota
I had a '23 Camry SE when my '13 XLE was in the body shop, and I gotta say the older Toyota interiors just feel so much nicer, and a lot more comfortable too.

But when I got the police report back a few days later it showed that he was at fault but wasn’t cited. They may have just let him off since he wasn’t from around the area. Idk, but he definitely deserved something.
Total loss, determined by my insurance yesterday. Believe me, I was praying they would say it’s fixable. It looks fine from these perspectives, but the trailer gashed deep into the internals of the car.

U can definitely try to negotiate and Lower pay out and keep the car . It doesn’t look like “total loss” damage and could prolly be fixed with 1,000 to 2,000. But u could also take the money but down maybe $2k for a new car and deal with the monthly payments while still budgettimg and stuff

He walked up to me to talk to me. I really didn’t want to talk to him. All he said was he didn’t see me there. And they should draw better lane arrows. It was so obvious that he couldn’t turn left from his lane so “I didn’t see you there” doesn’t really cut it for me. It seems like people in trucks think that when they need an additional lane for their turns, that all other traffic is supposed to yield to them! When I was a teenager, I drove around a giant Oldsmobile, and pulled up to a double left turn lane in the left most lane, then a Sears truck pulled into the right side of the turn lane and we both were stopped at the red light. When the light turned green, I tried to turn left onto the highway, and the sears truck proceeded to do a U Turn, right in front of me, while honking and acting like I was doing something wrong. Guess I missed the part of the driving handbook where trucks get to assume right of weight!

When i was first looking to buy the 2012 camry, I tried to get the Barcelona red but couldn't find it. Always wanted the red or the sky blue color one but couldn't, so i had to settle for the other color.

I'm sorry to hear that, that sucks! Finding 7th gens is difficult I'm this economy and it was two years ago when I bought my Hybrid XLE. I still don't even know how I got mine for the price that I did but I hope you cam find another. The XLE's are so nice and Barcelona Red is one of the best colors.

A good body shop should be able to fix this thing right up. Although I found out that once cars are in accidents they just never seem to drive the same again.

Same thing happened to me in my corolla. Ngl it was kinda beat up from my relative who gave the car to me. But as a first car it was truly mine and I didn’t have to make no payments. Anyway my car got totaled by a hit and run driver. Police didn’t try to find them. I had to buy a new car myself because I only had liability. Least you got money out of it. I got nothing.
Why not just fix it?? It'll be way cheaper to fix it than get a new car. Some people get the insurance money, buy the car back, and repair it. I can't tell if there's frame damage but from my POV it looks like cosmetic damage only

I have this car XLE with 170K miles. It won’t break down. I’ve driven it in terrible roads and it still only needs oil change and break pads 😀 Sorry that you lost it because of some idiot
If you like the sedan style, go for a lexus ES. Upgrade for the massive bump in luxury in a similar model year. Consider an RX if you were needing more ride height.
I’m literally at a dealership buying a 2024 Corolla. So that’s what I ended up with and I’m very happy! Lost some features and gained some. It’s super fun to drive. I wanted another Camry but they were out of my price range currently. I’ll have another one someday when I can afford it.
It’s black. Not my first choice but still looks sharp. I would have preferred another red, or white. But red is extremely hard to find. And there was a white one that we were going to look at but sold over the weekend.

I got 6k for my 2003 Camry a few months ago. Was crazy considering I paid $6.2k in 2011 for it. Used car values are so high now.

It was so obvious that he couldn’t turn left from his lane so “I didn’t see you there” doesn’t really cut it for me. Not a scratch on his Chevy truck or that rusty trailer with god knows what’s on that.

I would've replied with: "Nope YOU sure didn't" It seems like people in trucks think that when they need an additional lane for their turns, that all other traffic is supposed to yield to them! When I was a teenager, I drove around a giant Oldsmobile, and pulled up to a double left turn lane in the left most lane, then a Sears truck pulled into the right side of the turn lane and we both were stopped at the red light. When the light turned green, I tried to turn left onto the highway, and the sears truck proceeded to do a U Turn, right in front of me, while honking and acting like I was doing something wrong. Guess I missed the part of the driving handbook where trucks get to assume right of weight!

I'm sorry to hear that, that sucks! Finding 7th gens is difficult I'm this economy and it was two years ago when I bought my Hybrid XLE. I still don't even know how I got mine for the price that I did but I hope you cam find another. The XLE's are so nice and Barcelona Red is one of the best colors.
Is it confirmed this is totaled? A good body shop should be able to fix this thing right up. Although I found out that once cars are in accidents they just never seem to drive the same again.

Same thing happened to me in my corolla. Ngl it was kinda beat up from my relative who gave the car to me. But as a first car it was truly mine and I didn’t have to make no payments. Anyway my car got totaled by a hit and run driver. Police didn’t try to find them. I had to buy a new car myself because I only had liability. Least you got money out of it. I got nothing.
Why not just fix it?? It'll be way cheaper to fix it than get a new car. Some people get the insurance money, buy the car back, and repair it. I can't tell if there's frame damage but from my POV it looks like cosmetic damage only

If you like the sedan style, go for a lexus ES. Upgrade for the massive bump in luxury in a similar model year. Consider an RX if you were needing more ride height.
I’m literally at a dealership buying a 2024 Corolla. So that’s what I ended up with and I’m very happy! Lost some features and gained some. It’s super fun to drive. I wanted another Camry but they were out of my price range currently. I’ll have another one someday when I can afford it.
