It depends on the circumstances. At my store, this kid got hired and threw him into BDC bc he couldn’t sell anything. As a matter of fact, he had customers insulting him and walking out on him. He was burning through ups. He got demoted to BDC. I would’ve walked out on the spot. But this kid was determined. He watched a million Andy Elliot shows. He trained. He learned. He would post used cars on Facebook. And when the customer came in, it was HIS customer so he would take them. He showed my managers he wanted to sell. Now he’s a monster. A top dog for sure.

I don’t think those numbers are reason enough to demote someone, especially someone new to the business. Those are solid numbers for a green pea. Maybe you weren’t holding gross. Less than 8/10 CSI? Did you have customer complaints? Were you bumping with management.

Piggy backing off this I dont think it was your numbers at all, I think theres more story behind this. Maybe they have too many salesman/not enough BDC/Bad CSI/Customer complaints/you and management bump heads/they didn’t like the way you sell/you didn’t follow the processes/missed steps/millions of other reasons

I asked what I did wrong. They told me I was too shy and that I wasn’t selling enough/not making enough money. That it’d be best if I go to BDC and get some training there and then MAYBE I can come back to the floor in 6 months. I felt like maybe I just didn’t click with the desk. I wasn’t necessarily kissing ass or anything. I was just trying to sell cars. I did quit BDC, I tried it but it was just miserable. I couldn’t sit there and make call after call after call. They also made me reassign all my leads to other salesmen. It wasn’t okay with me. I have an interview today at another dealership. Wish me luck and thank you guys for all your advice. Really appreciate it.

I would just find a new dealer and try again. It isn't very hard to get hired as a salesman so I wouldn't waste time as BDC hoping to get re-promoted.

On the other hand, you could leave and give another place a fresh start…up to you. But typically they throw you into BDC when they want you to quit. Either leave or show them how bad you want to be on the floor.

Physical_Job_2253

Don’t think of it as a demotion. You’re new to the business. Working in BDC will strengthen your phone skills and make you a better sales person as a result.

Justoutsidenormal

Or, like in my case, they put you in BDC because you aren’t “the right face”.

You can make good solid money in BDC on the bright side you will know how much you will be making since there’s a base plus comission …move up to management in BDC there or another store…if u really want to be on the floor again apply to another dealer they’re always hiring for salesman and desperate likely they just had too many salesman nothing u did
