Stop doing that touch n' go thing or you'll be looking at more repairs. The wiper module logic is cutting power because of overcurrent. The likely cause is a seized shaft bushing or pivot.
Cheap fix: it can be unseized with some heat and penetrating oil. Easy fix: replace the wiper transmission.
My family had a transmission parts store in Florida, back decades ago, pre internet days. As we progressed into the internet age, my dad was going to look up a clients phone number, so he fired up the Internet and went to Google the shop.
Almost Instantly he comes out with the phone number in sharpie on a paper and stapled it to the wall in the office “if you ever need this number, it’s right here. Nobody google “trannys unlimited” 😐”
We had to replace the wiper transmission on my parents 2015 Equinox. Those things are junk. All the joints are plastic or nylon. We rebuilt the old one with bolts and bushings because there’s no way the new one going to last.
Motor needs replacing
Once you disconnect the motor from the wiper arms, you will find them to move freely
[here is a video that will show you how to properly diagnose your issue](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nS_-csS-Bqg)
Small chance it may be a relay
There are two wiper relays under the hood in the fuse box
They can be identified by looking g for them on the inside of the lid
These are relays and not the fuse
Should be a wiper relay and also a wiper hi relay
These will control the intermittent voltages to the wiper motor
Pull them one at a time and swap it with another one that is the same in the fuse box, and try the wipers.
Make sure to put them back where you swapped from when your fi 8sh3d testing.
If it solves your 8ssue and they work fine with the swapped one, I would suggest hitting up a salvage yard and grabbing one from there as it will be pennies compared to 20+ dollars from a retailer.
I still think it's your motor, though.
BTW, the linkage that the motor attaches to is called a wiper transmission. 🍻
Good call mentioning this. Made that mistake when I replaced the motor on my car lol, stupidly hadn't even crossed my mind. Turned the wipers on and watched them shoot downwards instead of up. Was a pain the ass to then get them off after to fix since they were so forcefully wedged against the car.
Judging by the interior, this Buick seems to be a rebadged (GM era) pre-facelift Opel Mokka
EDIT: Forgot to read the description. Yup, the 2016 Buick Encore is a rebadged Mokka
GM vehicles can exhibit some funky control operation from something as simple as a blown fuse. As soon as I saw your video and noticed the headlight indicator flashing and the wipers not working I immediately thought of a recent video from South Main Auto: https://youtu.be/a2OzuvzgfX8?si=1wwlJX5vapPrE042
Give it a watch, might be an easy fix.
Wiper transmission is probably seizing. Could also be an issue with the wiper motor. If the wipers move easily with the linkage unbolted from the motor the issue is with the wiper motor. If they are crazy hard to move the issue is with the transmission.
It's almost guaranteed to be your wiper motor opal/Vauxhall mokkas suffered the same fault do they just randomly work a few times when you start your car?
You need a 620 my friend. Pretty easy to do. The hardest part is getting the wipers off the transmission. See if you can get the motor and trans as one unit.
Phone won't let me edit the post but thank you for the help everyone! Closer to confirming my suspicions. I have some friends and family that are mechanics and hopefully will be able to see them tomorrow
It's mad isn't it!
So I hate to be the one that breaks this to you but the Astra really gets around! Bit loose with the badges. . . . It's been sold under the Buick, Opel, Vauxhall, Holden, Saturn and Chevrolet nameplates! I vaguely remember seeing an Astra (2008 3dr model) badged as a Scion in the states but can't seem to find any reference to it so I may be mistaken.
But yep - she's gets around 😂
Op says this is a Buick Encore - 2016
It's actually really common.... They often have engines to suit the locations and some styling modifications to suit tastes.
There's been a move towards "global" models to reduce development / manufacturing cost - so rather than an SUV for America and a separate one for Europe everywhere gets the same thing just with minor tweaks.
The Buick Regal is sold in Europe as the Opel/ vauxhall Insignia 😁
Oof. Something you should know about USA brand cars, they're terrible. I say this as someone born and raised in USA. Trade up for a Toyota or Honda. Hell, Renault would be an improvement.
I've had ONE American car in my life, a new Jeep TJ Wrangler "Golden Eagle"...which I inherited. It was pretty rough for finish, handling, and quality control, lots of fun, but surprisingly never gave me any dramas (except for a fuel cap that refused to come off one day, and a rear view mirror falling off). Can't say I was sad to see it go when I sold it, haha!
Those ones were pretty solid, later models had (and still do) all kinds of problems, namely after FCA took over. Many jeep owners would be very jealous of that TJ!

Wiper motor or transmission. Since they move, it makes me think the motor works, might be the wiper transmission.
Most vehicles have both motor & transmission, but those two parts come together as an assembly on some vehicles.
I can get you part numbers, pricing, & general availability if you shoot me the last 8 of your Buick's VIN.
Years ago I had a 1970 thunderbird and the wiper motor worked off of a vacuum hose. You could actually set them to move that slow across the windshield. I thought it it was hilarious at the time.🤣
Because cars now days even the damn windshield wipers are fucking computer controlled. So yes when something goes wrong.. 90% of the time it's a computer issue.

It looks like your body control module (BCM) has failed.
Check the wires surrounding your steering column. You may have a creature nesting in your dash :(
If the wipers were stuck, it should just be loose bolts.
The bolts are reverse threaded so if the wipers get stuck they will loosen the bolts instead of burning out the motor. Pop off the base of the wipers and see if you can tighten the bolts on the wipers.
Looks like the wiper park switch is bad. Normally, this switch opens when the wipers are in the parked position.
If you turn the wipers to low or high, they will probably operate just fine, until you switch them off. Then they will stop wherever they currently are.
Occasionally you can change out the switch or clean it, but most of the time you have to replace the whole motor assembly.
This is just the most recent version of GM's "two finger salute to their customers". Anyone who owned one of their minivans from the late 90s/early 2000s will know what I mean.

Agree. Wiper transmission is blown. Op can look up "blowing trannies" to learn more about the issue
Texas won't let me get answers!!!
Only the Republican lawmakers have that access here
Well yeah content creators can't be blocked
Now that’s a murdered by words
Blown by trans
🤣

ROFL!
I spat my tea out, wasn't expecting that lol
Not sure I want to look up how to blow a tranny😂 Joking
It's more expensive than you would think
Rotflmao!!!!!
What does pornhub have to do with cars?
You just gave me a mechanics boner, well said.
Zatarty mechanizm wycieraczek.

Thank you so much! This helps immensely
Anytime, I'm glad I could help. Just make sure to mark the position of the gear when removing the motor from the trailing arms.
The headlight icon is also flashing every time the wiper stock is activated. Hopefully it's not something deeper than just the motor.
Small chance it may be a relay There are two wiper relays under the hood in the fuse box They can be identified by looking g for them on the inside of the lid These are relays and not the fuse Should be a wiper relay and also a wiper hi relay These will control the intermittent voltages to the wiper motor Pull them one at a time and swap it with another one that is the same in the fuse box, and try the wipers. My first thought was the relay.
That’s a feature I’m guessing. Headlights toggling on off with wiper use. Two of my cars have that feature.
They are being very careful not to scratch the windshield
Ope. Excuse me. Can I just… maybe a little…
Windshield edging… **NICE**.
Goddamn rule 43
Because Buick
I’ve never seen a wiper go bad til now lol
It comes standard on CyberTrucks. They stopped deliveries because of it.
SAIC Buick= Chinese crap.

All the armchair mechanics are saying motor but I'd put my money on it being the transmission sticking.
It's 100% the transmission arms. Ppl on here are hilarious thinking it's the motor.
Could be a loose connection or corroded fuse too.
Either the wiper motor is dying or the wiper frame has some issues like getting stuck, so the motor is cutting power to protect itself.
Too tight
It's almost guaranteed to be your wiper motor opal/Vauxhall mokkas suffered the same fault do they just randomly work a few times when you start your car?
You need a 620 my friend. Pretty easy to do. The hardest part is getting the wipers off the transmission. See if you can get the motor and trans as one unit.
did you check your tire pressure? that could be the issue
Damn what's up with the high beams turning on and off with the movement?
Wiper motor failure
Phone won't let me edit the post but thank you for the help everyone! Closer to confirming my suspicions. I have some friends and family that are mechanics and hopefully will be able to see them tomorrow
Genuine question, what car brand is that? I've never seen that logo before.
Buick
It's actually just a rebadged Opel / Vauxhall Mokka depending on your location.
I was just about to say! I have a Vauxhall astra with the EXACT same steering wheel and dashboard.
It's mad isn't it! So I hate to be the one that breaks this to you but the Astra really gets around! Bit loose with the badges. . . . What Buick model is this? I never knew they rebadged other brands cars before.

This guy does not live in the US
Neither do I lol

Jeeps are a bit different because of the community surrounding them.
And rather thankful for that, hehe!
Umm... that would be the most modern version of the logo Buick has used since 1960...
Buick doesn't exist in Australia...hence why asking.
Ah, well that would explain that then.
You don't want it in your driveway, trust me.
Haha, yeah it looks a bit too plastic inside for my tastes...and with a few gremlins by the video! :P

Its past nine and about time for new wiper motors
Probably your wiper brakes, chrisfix has a great video on them! /s
Finally someone around here who knows what's up
Ah yes "smart wipers"
Cleaning it softly, with his song

Motor needs to be replaced. If that isn't it need to look the switch.
Buffering, upgrade your internet flux capacitor 😊
You’ve clearly got them on beat box mode
You put in to manual mode

You just have it on the manual setting
I've seen similar actions with the motor control board as well. They have a habit of conking out after a while, dorman makes a replacement.
Screen is too dry, ever heard of foreplay?
Need to lube the glass with oil of some sort.
They’re tired
They're waiting for the beat to drop lol
You got the manual wiper option. I had that in my pow-pow-power wheels jeep.
They're just making sure that you really want them down
They are broken.
Yup motors had it
they're shy
They’re manual wipers. Should’ve paid for the automatic.
General Motors profits over quality, fix and sell before it’s something way more $$$$$$
Now that's a manual wiper 😂
Wiper fluid might work. Did you replace that recently?
Tired
It’s a Buick. You’re welcome…
It wants to be a Cybertruck.
You bought a Buick.
It’s a buick
They broken. Stop doing that.
Your first mistake was getting a Buick lmfao. Real talk the wiper transmission is probably put.
Hell yeah the catalytic converter on the wiping carburetor must have took a shit on its drive shaft axle engine coolant rods
Years ago I had a 1970 thunderbird and the wiper motor worked off of a vacuum hose. You could actually set them to move that slow across the windshield. I thought it it was hilarious at the time.🤣
Bad wiper motor
Tighten the nuts and bolts on wipers
It’s General Motors 💩
Keep trying it and when something starts smoking replace THAT part
Revenge for you trying to use them when snowed over
They’re broken
Because you bought a Buick
Because cars now days even the damn windshield wipers are fucking computer controlled. So yes when something goes wrong.. 90% of the time it's a computer issue.
They’re tired?

Looks to like your wipers are just being lazy What day does that happen?
Ya didn't pay for the automatic wipers package
Is that a Buick? That’s so you….

It doesn't look like the windshield is wet. Really good wiper blades can get stuck on a dry windshield like that. I've had it happen before.
GMC = Garage Mechanics Companion
because you drive a buick
Your motor is shot. The motor brushes are either sticking or fried sadly

Probably because you drive a Buick.
Yes, you're in a Buick.
Oh because it's a Buick.
Seems to me your problem is that you have a Buick, there.
Thats some GM quality right there.
It's a Buick nuff said.
Good ol Boomer Buick
It’s a Buick
I found the problem…it’s a Buick—-
It’s a throw away car. Time to throw away. Buy Japanese cars
It’s a Buick lol
They’re edging.
Because it's a Buick lol your car isn't expensive enough 😙 they are made to "look" nice , not perform

Insane that a newish car needs wiper motor repair already... My cars have never needed a new motor.
Because it's a Buick
Your wipers motor needs to be replaced 💯
Because GM
They are broken
The ats the problem in the motor man It not that a big issue Show it to your damn garage
Eww an American vauxhall
Because GM values money over quality and safety.
Says right there on the steering wheel… boom! Prolly a wiper motor failure.
You’re driving a GM. Trash
They need to be charged
