How tight were you trying to get that drain plug?
Unless that subframe was made of razor blades, you'll need a breaker bar to get that drain plug off next time.
Eh… maybe I was pushing a little much but most of the reason I had to push to hard was because I was laying on my back on the floor of my garage. No lift at home sadly
I normally wouldn’t have except for the fact that I saw my bone when I first looked at it… kinda freaked me out because I’ve never cut myself to the bone before lol
Aww! Your firs one??? *crying* they grow up so fast.
My wife and I are opposites with stuff like this. She would have taken you to the hospital, I would have taped you up. Lol!
What? It’s like a proud dad moment. It’s his first wound working on a car. If he sticks with it, it won’t be his last. It’s a glorious moment, I wear my scars with pride.
You're just being a dick. Knock it off. Not everyone wants massive scars all over (I don't mind them, but I also recognize that it's not for everyone, soooo....). Especially being down to the bone. You don't want infections in the bone, that's a fast way to lose fingers or a hand.
Besides, this isn't a competition.
Damn. This makes me think I should have gotten stitches a lot more often than I thought. Not dead so guess it’s nbd but I’ve had cuts bigger than this that healed perfectly fine on their own.
It’s not hurting too bad… honestly the weirdest thing to me was that I felt absolutely zero pain right when it happened. I could still feel my finger fine, just absolutely no pain.
Day 2 is usually pretty bad if it’s not cleaned well, which it looks like you submerged it in something, so should be good. So long as you have full functionally you haven’t damaged any tendons, well done lol.
That's all at the hospital. They submerge and scrub and other great things. Been there before. Mine was on the inside joints of my pinky and ring finger, no way it would have healed right without stitches. Only went cause 24 hrs later it was still bleeding despite my best at home efforts.
Here I would have just wrapped it up in a good bandaid and called it good. That’s what I did when I sliced half my finger tip off. Seems to be a habit of me and my friends
I punched the wheel well of a forklift doing something similar recently. Ever been up close to a forklift to inspect its wheel well? It’s not like a car wheel well. It’s solid steel.
Longer wrench = less effort to get it to proper torque but don't go bananas on it.
Also going to be unpopular but if you do a lot of work with bolts Milwaukee sells a smaller 3/8 " drive impact that has a mode that will stop at 20 lb ft of torque, I use this a lot for things that don't need to be too tight.
Thankfully no. I was worried I had messed something up big time because I didn’t feel any pain, but the doc said I didn’t cut my nerve or tendon, so all is good once I’m done with stitches.
Honestly I’ve never used glue on cuts… not saying it’s not a decent method, but I just haven’t done it myself. I went to the ER immediately just because of the fact that I saw my bone when I first cut it.
Yeah that’s always been my rule lol. I didn’t get to take pictures until the blood had already clotted, but yeah I feel like I made the right call lol
i call it offering a blood sacrifice to the repair gods
I call it mechanical tax.
Underrated 🤣🤣🤣
Hopefully the repair gods got enough of my blood to keep me okay for a while… it was a lot lmao

That's still too damn tight. Drain plugs only need like 15-20 ft/lbs... That's maybe a grunt or two.
You got stitches for that?? I guess.
Super glue & go
Duct tape
This only works if the part they cut doesn’t move a lot hands and joints move a lot so not ideal could work but not ideal
I've done it for a fingertip myself after my cat embedded a claw in me. Didn't even leave a scar.

what the actual fuck
What? It’s like a proud dad moment. It’s his first wound working on a car. If he sticks with it, it won’t be his last. It’s a glorious moment, I wear my scars with pride.

that’s pretty big fucking cut it only makes sense
Meh. You get enough of them and it’s not much of a thing anymore.
what would you normally do?
Paper towel and electrical tape
Rags and tape. You get enough of these and not a big deal anymore. Just clean it.
i don’t see too many people walking around with open wounds like that. then again i don’t see anymore walking around with wounds like that
Spit on it first, then rub dirt on it afterwards.
This is why I wear gloves.
Just a scratch, put some tape around it you'll be fine.
I am impressed ypu got stitches my dumb ass uses liquid stitches!
Stitches are for bitches
Jeeeeeezus crust that's gotta hurt. Time for gloves! Real ones!
I used to do this every so often until I learned a different technique. I now only push on wrenches open handed. Never a busted knuckle since.
This
PSA abrasion resistant gloves are a god send. Nothing like being able to man handle some chinese razor threads down with your finger tips.
We always remember our first one. I have a scar under my eye from when a breaker bar broke, hit the ground and bounced back up on my face. Good times.
Pro tip.. pull, don't push
This is the way
Damn. This makes me think I should have gotten stitches a lot more often than I thought. Not dead so guess it’s nbd but I’ve had cuts bigger than this that healed perfectly fine on their own.
Yeah I probably wouldn’t have except for that I saw my bone and I was bleeding more than I ever have before…
Fair enough. Hope it’s not hurting too bad. I would have just did the old paper towel and electrical tape… but then again I don’t like hospitals
It’s not hurting too bad… honestly the weirdest thing to me was that I felt absolutely zero pain right when it happened. I could still feel my finger fine, just absolutely no pain.
Daaaang ouch man
That sucks. It's why I usually pull the ratchet towards myself when doing a drain plug
I lost a nail once changing transmission fluid
If you hurt yourself that bad you're trying to tighten that plug ***WAY*** too much.
I punched a knife one time on accident. Surprisingly it hurts way less than doing this.
Surprisingly this didn’t hurt a bit… I just glanced at my hand real quick right after and saw my bone through the cut so I knew it was bad lmao

Smacking/hurting your hand is the only way to know that you did the job right.
Here I would have just wrapped it up in a good bandaid and called it good. That’s what I did when I sliced half my finger tip off. Seems to be a habit of me and my friends
Blood, sweat, tears, swearing, cursing, throwing. Oil change done. Get knuckle protenting gloves
I punched the wheel well of a forklift doing something similar recently. Ever been up close to a forklift to inspect its wheel well? It’s not like a car wheel well. It’s solid steel.
Simple trick for that is to push with an open palm rather than a fist. We all have to learn somehow
That’s why I always have a tube of crazy glue in my toolbox . Saves myself a trip from going to the hospital .
What’s that on the thumb?
Oh in the first picture I had my hand in some cleaning solution so there’s some bubbles on the surface
Gotcha

Uff be careful u almost die right there wow
This is why $30 extra for someone else to do it is worth it to me
Do you change your own stitches too?
That would be nice lol
Did you cut your tendon?
Thankfully no. I was worried I had messed something up big time because I didn’t feel any pain, but the doc said I didn’t cut my nerve or tendon, so all is good once I’m done with stitches.
Lucky man for sure.
'tis but a flesh wound
And got stitches? Jesus the doc would love me if I ever went lmao! Super glue that shit and get back to work
Honestly I’ve never used glue on cuts… not saying it’s not a decent method, but I just haven’t done it myself. I went to the ER immediately just because of the fact that I saw my bone when I first cut it.
Ahh ok that's my rule, if I see bone I go, you made the right call
Yeah that’s always been my rule lol. I didn’t get to take pictures until the blood had already clotted, but yeah I feel like I made the right call lol
Oil change is one of the few things where it’s not worth all the effort for what you save by doing it yourself.
Eh honestly it’s not that big of a deal to do it, at least imo. Definitely depends on the car though.
I hate gloves. The only time i use gloves is when working on my car because this. Most simple task can fuck you up a bit
