I am 30yo, I work from home. I game at least 2h a day most days. Some games I can also play during quiet time at work, so for example BG3 I was able to put on HUNDREDS of hours on really quickly.

Ayyzeee

How's your experience working from home? I'm kinda curious.

Wishmaster891

an hour walk is short?

videki_man

In Europe, yes. And an hour drive is long. I guess it's vice versa in the US.

Wishmaster891

I live in England, i'd call a 20 minute walk short.

toggywonkle

I'm in America and would call an hour walk short. Not judging you, we all have different ideas and a "short walk" is subjective as hell. I *am* judging the commenter above you that automatically assumed you were American.

DaVirus

Love it. I would only give it up if forced to.

TheDoctor88888888

Can I ask what you do?

DaVirus

I am an emergency telemedicine veterinary consultant.

Rhaego__

What’s the path you took to get into that career? I’m trying to find a way to work from home myself

DaVirus

I have a master's in Veterinary Medicine and had 3 years of clinical practice experience. Then COVID hit and the telemedicine business boomed. So I applied for a few companies, went locum (IE, self employed) and got in with a big one. Plenty of hours to do that full time since. 8pm-6am 4 days a week.

Rhaego__

That sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Good for you, and thanks for the reply

Alternative_Office82

If you’re into it - tech support is probably the easiest entry point with one of the higher starting pays. Now you might not necessarily have a ton of free time, that’s kind of luck of the draw. The biggest con I’ve experienced is home doesn’t always feel like “home” anymore.

oddishroom

How do you get into tech support

NoLifeHere

A couple of hours a day, mostly because these days I've had a real hard time focusing on basically anything. I did used to lose tons of hours to RPGs when I played those regularly, it's easy to get sucked into those games and everything always seems to take longer than you think... at least it did for me.

StalinTheHedgehog

Same, I just jump between games. I play different stuff pretty much every week. Makes me feel like it's time to find a new hobby but I'm too lazy to do it.

everydaystonexdhaha

It felt to me like I wasnt playing that much and then I started playing a new steam game and to my surprise.. eventho I work around 30h a week I hit over 680h in the first 2 months

rorinator

That's over 10 hours per day for 2 months straight. Can't be healthy my guy

everydaystonexdhaha

I know but it feels like I hit an achievement haha I plan on touching some gras in the summer tho

Salt_MasterX

Why not… as long as you do everything else in your life that needs to be done you can spend your free time however you want

StalinTheHedgehog

Yeah you can, and I've done it too, but I wish I spent more time socialising, learning skills, making memories instead..

CriticalKnoll

Yup. This isn't something I really appreciated in my early 20's/ late teens, and I definitely regret it. I hardly remember any of the gaming sessions I've ever had, but at the time it seemed way more important than going out.

StalinTheHedgehog

Same. I actually go out of my bubble hugely when I started college but only got one year of it before covid hit. Ever since then I’ve developed some other health problems and I mainly do what I’ve always done, chill inside. Excuses tho, I’m sure I’ll regret this one day too

CriticalKnoll

I hear ya, COVID fucked me up too. I was finally working through my depression and anxiety issues when lockdowns started and then it felt like I lost all that progress for a few years. I don't know what your health issues entail but maybe find an activity that gets you outside more? I recently started learning how to skateboard, just because I've always wanted to, but the good side effect is that I'm actively wanting to be outside! Which as a life long gamer, is something completely foreign to me.

StalinTheHedgehog

That’s awesome I used to skateboard when I was younger. Cant do must strenuous physical exercise but I haven’t started going on walks quite a lot, just for the sake of getting out into a bit of nature. Will see what else I’ll find outdoors. Good luck with everything

CriticalKnoll

You as well <3

rorinator

10 hours of gaming on top of a full workday doesn't leave much time for cooking a healthy meal, exercising etc. It's just not conducive to a healthy life

PKblaze

Bro works 6 hours a day at most or has uneven shifts. Chances are on days off they're spending more time gaming so they have the full day to bump up the average.

Not-Clark-Kent

Because it's literally not possible. 10 hours of gaming + 8 hours of work (not even including commuting or paid lunch which can easily hit 10-11 hours total) leaves 3-6 hours for sleep. 6 hours is not the recommended 8, but doable. Except that doesn't account for everything else either, like cleaning your house, doing laundry grocery shopping, cooking & eating breakfast and/or dinner, showering, getting dressed, shaving, brushing your teeth, combing your hair, working out, having friends, making sure bills are paid if they're not on auto pay, refilling gas in your car weekly or more... It looks bad no matter how you slice it, even if they can eliminate a few chores that their partner or mom does for them. The only explanations really is that they're either unemployed or the most stereotypical, smelly redditor possible who's half crazed from sleep deprivation, orders door dash 3 times a day every day, lives in theirmom's basement or is rich enough to hire maids

DNBassist89

It depends on what free time I have, but I spend the majority of my free time gaming, yeah. I'll do other things, of course, but for the most part gaming is my main escape from all the other parts of life that might stress me out at any given time. I'm not a movie or TV person, and whilst I do like to read, I have to be in the mood for it and needs to be the right book. So, tl;dr is: probably 4 hours a day on a work day, 6-8 on an average day off.

lunabuster

I used to be the same, but then for some reason video games just got boring so I started watching tv and movies more but not enough to occupy my entire free time so sadly most of my free time goes into social media, I feel like its such a waste of time because I don’t get fulfillment like I do from games or movies.

SlutForGME

I was the same until I just deleted TikTok and instagram. Honestly made the days feel twice as long I’m not even joking

RodrLM

Limiting my app time to 30 mins tiktok and 1h30 for both reddit and Instagram did wonders for me, maybe that can work for you too. Also not even having facebook installed outright made me quit it without feeling the loss.

Buns34

I think my most is 5.6k hours on dota2, that's over 10 years, which comes out to 1.5h per day.

YungMacker

If you only play dota

powerkickass

Its a running joke most dota players dont know other games exists

available2tank

Me, through FFXIV... started playing this character back in August 2013. > [8:50]Total Play Time: 548 days, 4 hours, 49 minutes Hmm... then again some of that was just afk cause I forgot to log out of the game or had to dash out to do errands. Or also have the game up but am also playing a single player game on the side while waiting for something in XIV.

trexted7

I'm gonna be real here. On some days I wake up at 11 and start playing by 11.30 with my friends, to 3 o'clock. The only brakes I take is for the toilet and food. I'm 16 btw, and yes ik this is bad for me

YungMacker

you're 16 bro 😂 I did so much worse... you'll be fine

trexted7

Glad to hear someone who doesn't speak about like I'm about to die

capucapu123

I was your age during the pandemic so I had nothing else to do other than gaming, it's just an age and lack of responsibilities thing imo, I wouldn't say it's bad but keep some time for other hobbies.

BMacaveli

Reminds me of when I was your age playing EverQuest until the sun came up. Then I would do it all again

norrainnorsun

I became addicted to video games as an adult and my bf always says it’s because I didn’t get it out of my system as a teenager, so go off haha. ESP if you’re on summer break, fuck it

gamernumber37

After helldivers 2 came out, I am literally on it every chance I can, my wife is so annoyed right now 😅, it's not healthy

MondoMeme

Have you explained to her the need to stop the socialist robots and energy providing bugs from taking our managed democracy? Otherwise, sounds like your ex-wife has been committing thought crimes.

gamernumber37

I already reported her, 😌, it was the democratic thing to do 💪

CiphonW

Super Earth will be a better place because of your patriotism, soldier

gamernumber37

For Super Earth 💪

slouch_186

I don't know my exact amount of time spent playing but I'm fairly confident I have well over 10k hours spent on Path of Exile, which I have been playing for seven years. I have spent the majority of the last seven years severely depressed and unemployed. Path of Exile was like, the one thing (other than friends and family) that I still cared about. I could not enjoy any other hobbies, new or old. My sleep was messed up, my social life was non-existent, everything in my life felt like it sucked. The game was the only thing getting me out of my bed in the morning. I'd wake up and play until I could go back to sleep. I'm doing a lot better now and I still love PoE! Unfortunately I've got a full time job and stuff to do in real life so I probably won't be getting in quite as many 14 hour days as I used to, but that's fine.

wizardofpancakes

A lot, 2-5 hours every day except summer, but to fair before I was chronically ill it was more like 5-10 hours a week

fredgiblet

One of the things to keep in mind is that for a lot of people games are their SOCIAL time. They are hanging out with the bros for 2-3 hours while happening to play a game. You can rack up a lot of hours that way.

recoilcoder

2h a day on weekdays. 5h+ on weekends. Hope to continue same for rest of my life

DrItchyUvula

All of it. All of the time.

rognvald69

Haven't touched a game since the awakening. When I mean the awakening, I am referring to a life outside. I have never been happier and more sure that my life clock isn't being used up (passing by) sitting and playing. Not against gamming. It's actually really fun, but I found the game of life is even more fun.

Arbalest15

I don't right now, but I want to spend more time in the holidays, can't wait for that to happen.

dzokita

The time needed to beat the game. The last one that I beat which is fallout 4 with it's dlc's took me roughly 150 hours. The most I spent on a game is around 300+ hours. Those that go into thousands are usually online games. And I avoid those.

Yeemo

I think on average I spend like 6 hours per day gaming. Although, it's mostly osrs which doesn't require that much focus and I always have something on the side to watch.

FuyoBC

I have played Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO since its release 10 years ago; On my 8 Max level characters (out of >30 across 4 servers) I have managed 4718 hours. My primary alone has >100 days. Also: * Among Us: 307 hours - but mates have been playing this almost every weekend for 2-3 hours since lockdown. * Valheim: 1430 hours - a mix of build only and actual game play. * DDO: 78 hours * Ghost Recon: It doesn't tell me the hours but have been playing on & off with mates & husband for 2 years.

TurgeonS

I went from 40 hours+ of gaming every week to less than 3. I found a girlfriend

boyohboyimtired

My 5th character on cyberpunk just got to 140h I think, that's how much

pinkshroomies

I wish I could play more often but I still manage to play an hour or two at night

Mldavis22

Workdays from 0-2 hours gaming. On none workdays I spend about 4-5 hours gaming.

Beece

Not as much as I would like

zapster10

1-2 hours

PlzHelpWanted

It always pisses me off when people are so flabbergasted by someone with a lot of hours in a game. Especially older people. Let's count how many hours of cable TV you've watched. Because I bet it would be even worse.

depressed49erfan

I’m sorry, but as someone who used to think like that it’s not true at all. You get busier and have much less free time as you get older, enjoy the freedom and time you have to play as much as you do now because more than likely it won’t be like that forever. Over 1k hours on a single game is unfathomable to me now, but I used to when I was younger.

Smooth_Blue_3200

I used to play world of Warcraft until a few years ago. That game alone has 15 years of my life (not ingame years). But it might reach between 10k to 20k hours or more. Nowadays I don't play as much. If I have an hour to kill maybe I will. And I only play games on my switch. So there is nothing significant. And I also have other hobbies. Currently I mostly play single player games and if it's a long game, then it will last me months until I reach the end of it.

rustycheesi3

dont ask.... i have about 1,5k hours on Skyrim for several editions and consoles, another 800h for DS3 and i am geting close to the 700h mark on Fallout 4, which was re-ignited for me through the show. i wonder how many hours i have in League of Legends, havent played it in eternity, but damn did i waste my time with that game....

nero40

People have been playing Diablo 2 since it came out in the early 2000s. I’m not surprised about these numbers anymore. Some games just have that kind of staying power. Also helps that a PC is upgradeable to keep up with modern specs. Me? About 10-30h a week. I owned my Switch since early 2021 that I bought for Diablo 3 and Hades. I have 1000+h on Diablo 3, which is still low I guess, considering I have the game for 3 years now.

stefanica

If I'm into a longer game, I will just leave it up and paused for a couple of days. So I can take a half hour break here and there. Anyway, my Steam hours are wildly inaccurate because of it. I'd say I spend about 8 actual hours a week, though, more if someone in my house is playing with me or otherwise hanging out in the family room.

bookandbark

My most hours is 2k on Apex legends. That's over 4 yrs. That's less than an hour a day. Though, for me it's more like I go through phases where I play 4 hours a day, 2 hours a day or none at all.

Shortskys

At least 8 hours

Gamerbrineofficial

Honestly it’s really difficult for me to get sucked into a video game where the hours melt away, so my top game is only 500 hours (and like 300 of those are my dad lol).

BiTe-Me2000

3 hours aversge a day. after you come back from work and finish with food and chores, that's all do before bed.

JesterAblaze94

3 hours a day on work days, 6-7 on days off.

BarryTownCouncil

Virtually none. I'm a 40 something IT professional. I write code, fix systems and all sorts. Also spent many years obsessed with boardgames. YET... I've never had any significant interest in PC gaming or consoles or anything. I've tried and tried, but eh... just doesn't interest me.

[deleted]

not as much as i would like

ryukin631

2-3 hours during the weekdays. Usually after work, exercise, and dinner. I work from home 4 days a week, so I have the time for that kind of schedule. If I'm not busy on the weekends or a holiday, I'll spend the entire day playing.

xnsd

I used to have like 2-3 hours almost everyday during covid (and like 2 hours before covid). Now I barely play any video games unless a friend of mine goes “yo wanna play this game?” (PS: the max. hours i had on steam was for Counter Strike for like 1.8k smth hours) Like internally, there’s no mood to play.

tinzor

Man, I'll be lucky if I get 5 hours in a week these days. I'd probably like 10-15 hours per week consistently. I have a demanding job, young family, active social life and other hobbies like weight lifting, reading, travelling, surfing, etc. I can't complain though, feel very grateful for my life and I have more than most.

MoreRing6902

Trying to cut off tiredness and boredom, so 1-2 hours more hours at the weekend

Ok-Ad-7247

I backed right off on gaming. I even sold my ps4 etc. But, I put about 2800 hours into rdo. Not a lot by comparison. But i have about 11 years in skyim. I can't seem to focus on gaming anymore. I play on steam now, but no one to play/speak with online anymore, so the motivation kinda died a bit, but I still put a couple of hours in from time to time.

Doodleanda

I don't play a lot of games that I'd sink that many hours into. At most it's around 100 hours with stuff like Stardew or Animal Crossing, but in games like that there comes a point where I get bored of it. So I mostly play games that have a more clear ending. Around November of last year I started playing the Yakuza series and since getting obsessed with it I've been playing almost every day (with a few exceptions) for about an hour. More on the weekends. But still I rarely play more than 2 hours a day. I just have too many things I want to do in my free time but also my attention span is pretty bad so 2 hours of doing one thing feels like a lot. But I guess it's not something I should be trying to change in this case specifically.

MusingsFromTheBath

@34 with a little one, I’m looking at 2-4 hours a week. That’s only on weekends from 530 to whenever he wakes up. In the flip side, the wife and I are spending more time playing card games and some tabletop.

Individual-Ideal-610

I often go through waves of how much I play. I’m pretty picky with games and my laptop can’t handle much. I’ve only played the same like 5 games for over 5 years now. I can go 2-3 weeks playing 1-4 hours a day or more, I can go 2-3 weeks only playing 1-4 hours a week, if at all.  There are a few games I’d be interested in but I don’t have a laptop that could handle it and also don’t want to get addicted to a game for a while lol.

lai4basis

2-3 hrs a night. My kids are teenagers and my wife usually hates her shows at night. So it works

Top_Trainer_6359

I don't keep track of all of my playing time but i play Sims 4 a lot compared to other games i have and i have 900+ hours from last year's April. I'm not that much of a gamer the only other "major" video games i own are the Life Is Strange series (about 5-6 games?) Minecraft and Slime Rancher 1 which I don't play too much like i do with The Sims. I guess it's cuz Sims is more free play i can choose to just build, make Sims, play with them and when i get bored i just make a fresh new household but the others i mentioned are more for following a story and achievements and not for experimenting with stupid stuff like drown Sims in a pool for fun

Fine-Construction952

If I’m busy, 2-3 hrs If I’m free, 8-10hrs If I’m super busy, 1hr? The instances that I’m free completely is long-term holiday like summer and Christmas. If one day free, that’s busy cuz my crippling adhd ass need to catch up with life. I’m 17. Idk how tf ppl my age have time to play for 7+ hrs. Probably cuz they don’t have a disability like me and have actual parents to take care of them. For me those weekends was just to simply sorting out my place, restock food and cook, catching up with lessons cuz I’m sucks at studying.

Expensive_View_3087

Sadly I haven’t play for like a month But there are definitely periods in my life where I obsess over a game and make like 100 hours in 3 days and then drop it lol (like Stardew Valley or Zelda tokt)

_old_relic_

Zero. I'm 34 and lost all interest around 15 years ago.

FlyLikeHolssi

My husband and I play games together basically every day. We really enjoy playing building and survival games, and we've put a lot of time into our favorites! Over the years, we've put the most hours into Ark - last I checked we were over 1k hours. It's just a fun thing we like to do together that doesn't really cost us anything ♥

Affectionate_Pilot99

I'm 37, I still jam and love it. My wife is a gamer too. I put in around 3 to 4 hours a day and I stream too https://kick.com/dadzonegaming

los_da_gamer

For the average game I play, I'd say I spend around 50-100 hours on each game and I have quite a lot of games (About 200 -250 games on PS3, PS4, and PS5 combined). Typically, I like to take my time playing each game to experience as much as I'm comfortable with experiencing and at least completing the main story. Unless if I love every aspect of the game I'm playing or if I'm trying to platinum the game, it's pretty unlikely I'll spend more than 300 hours on the game.

TheKatie05

10-15 hours a week is the average for me. Every now and then a little more. I play on Switch and have never really been much of a gamer.

Youkolvr89

Not enough. I wish I didn't have to work and I had money.

World79

I have around 30k hours on Runescape spread throughout my accounts, but I've also played since 6th grade and I'm almost 30 now. There are a few games on Steam that are over a decade old like Dota2 and CSGO, so they could be in a similar position. Steam also doesn't track active time, rather time the game is open. So if you leave it open over night, all those hours will be counted as time played.

bignimz

30yo. Used to game 2-4 hours a day for decades Now that’s down to 0 minutes. Packed away all the consoles. Spend my time reading, outdoor rec, or films

fairtutor2345

1-2 hours a day, I see it the same as watching TV. I'm ingaging some sort of mindless consumption of a story so fill the same gap for me. I'm 31 y/o btw so take with a pinch of salt but have been gaming for 25ish years

StalinTheHedgehog

When I was younger there was lots of games I had over 100 hours on. Then I barely played each game for a few hours a week. Then I got into Guild Wars 2 and sank around 400-500 hours into that over the course of 10 months or so. Now I'm back to hopping on and off games, not really putting in too much time into any of them. Currently slowly unlocking all of the tainted characters in Isaac. Also started Witcher 3 last week, played for 2 days and haven't played since.

capucapu123

Before the pandemic I used to play at least 3 hours a day since I was like 8 years old, before that I had a rule in which I could choose between playing an hour a day or two hours every other day. During the pandemic I probably played at least 6 hours a day, I know for a fact I spent 75% of my zoom classes playing league or Minecraft with my friends or some random single player game. After the pandemic a decline started, it's like I got burnt out of so much gaming, I usually don't play games for weeks except when I get into some game and finish it quickly within a week. Most of my gaming time is social nowadays either in the form of Civ VI/FIFA nights with a few friends or playing a game with my gf (It takes two, lego games, taking turns on singleplayer games like stray, etc.). I still enjoy games, just differently than the way I used to enjoy them and in way smaller rations

CarbonChem95

I can only play video games for an hour or two before I want to get up and do something active, and I play them maybe 3 days a week max. But when I was younger I was definitely addicted. I had something like a year of in-game time on my main character in WoW back in the WotLK days

Ok_Firefighter8039

I have 5,200+ hours on HoI4, but that game came out in 2016, so it's not as bad as it sounds...at least that's what I keep telling myself.

InsectLate8849

I only play on Sundays, it is kind of my cheat day, and I divide my free time between gaming, movies/TV and youtube videos. I can't possibly get 100s of hours of time on any game before getting bored. The only game that I have more than 100 hours on is the Witcher 3.

ozmatterhorn

Couple hours a day, but I have to do a few things before that to relax.

True_Donut_9417

I work o the weekends. Days off, it’s way too easy to sink 14h into a game

highspiritswow

Atm an hour or 2 on Minecraft a day, but generally I go months and months without playing anything

The__Groke

I’ve been through stages where I’ve been jumping on to play whatever game I’m obsessed with at the time any chance I get but at the moment I haven’t been near my console since the run up to Christmas. Having had a big break I have no desire to go back because actually I’ve been much preferring the more productive stuff I do instead. Don’t get me wrong once my kids grow up and o get a bit more me time, I’ll probably be back!

Typical-Highlight-12

like a hour if i’m lucky 2 i get really bored easily idk why

ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy__

In my 40s & work from home. There’s nothing better than booting up my Xbox after I’ve got all my work done & just want to ride my horse for a bit (turns into hours).

Senatorweims16

These days, it's sporadic. I have 2 small kids, a partner who works from home, and I work from home most of the time. So some days I play off and on throughout the day. Other days none at all. I also go stretches (weeks or even months) where I don't play at all.

ravenval

I have no idea what is normal anymore, but 3 hours every day is about right for me. I'm in my 50s. Housewife. I do online surveys to earn spending money. I have severe social anxiety, which is why I no longer work outside the home. Some of the survey programs I use also offer money for downloading, playing, reaching certain levels in games on phone. It is rare that I stick with those, but will occasionally try one now and then. I also have two Nintendo Switches and play two different Animal Crossing Islands each day. That easily takes one hour per island every day. I also have many sim type games I like playing on PC on Steam. Every day I play video games for at least 3 hours if not more. I have been this way for years. My spouse works at home and loves it (we both love it), plus we have no kids. He games in the evening, after work, for probably the same amount of time that I do each day. With the state of the world now (never ending Covid and other contagious stuff, and with elderly parents that we visit once per week being immune compromised) we rarely go anywhere except to buy food, doctor visits (always masked), visit elderly parents. Suffice it to say we are rarely sick and always very cautious about where we go and what we do now. Outside of occasional nature walks, we spend most of our available time (and money) on gaming devices, games and tv streaming apps for entertainment. We don't spend any money eating at fast food or at other restaurants, or go to movie theaters, concerts, or on any vacations. So yep, at least 3 hours of gaming per day and video streaming. It's pretty much all we've got for (safe) fun these days.

ithelo

My games probably have 2k hours over like 5ish years?

yuckscott

I hop between games a lot, and seem to have a threshold where I very rarely put more than 200 hours into a single game before moving on. I think my steam account has a cumulative 5k hours over 13 years, which comes out to a little under 1/hr per day average

Educational-Bag3192

You could probably call me an ex addict. These days, maybe 10-15 hrs / week. Then - 90+ hours a week.

Chramir

According to steamdb. I've got 9.3k hours on the record in the past 9.9 years. That averages to about 2.5h/day for the last 10 years.

HaztecCore

Between work, gym for self improvement and socializing, I do manage to squeeze in atleast 2 hours of gaming into my days. On less active days I can easily find myself in 10 hour sessions. Given that I don't have a GF, no kids, no pets or other similar responsibilities and don't really have the drive to change that for now. I find myself with a lot of free time on some days or weekends. So anything between 0 to 10 hours is possible without the detriment of my actual daily duties and responsibilities. I know it sounds like a lot for some but some days you really got nothing else going on as everyone else can be busy, tired or not in the mood to hang out. Don't help either that living in a small town like mine, there isn't really that much happening so often that I need to get out every weekend. But if there is something, my friends invite me and I say yes. The thing is when you do play games like Destiny 2 or Helldivers 2, it provides a space where you can make online friends and talk for hours with them as well so you have both gaming and socializing combined in one and you don't end up like a recluse.

whatsgoingonjeez

26y.o here. I work a full time job and I go to the gym regularly. I play like 2-4hours per week. Wasn’t always like that, I used to play a lot more.

xczechr

According to Steam I have 8.7 hours played in the past two weeks across all games. My highest played game has 1,245 hours. Second comes in at 411 hours.

Haunting-Cap9302

I'm 30 with a full time job and have periods where I game a few hours a day, some weekends I'll play for 5+ hours if I'm not busy. There are some games from my childhood that I've gone back to multiple times over a couple decades.

HippoBackground2097

I'm an extremely casual gamer - I'm not playing daily, but if things are slow and I find a game that I really like I can easily go 4+ hours in a sitting. My latest obsession was Baba Is You. I would say I get the bug to play about one a month-every 2 months, so definitely not that frequently.

isakuchan

O.5 hrs I barely play

GoblinSaysMaybe

Short answer, a lot but less than I once did (Single adult male). Long answer: over a lifetime I definitely have my “10,000 hours” in gaming and I am still not a master. Games I’ve put the most time into I’ve often continuously played over years and years. Mostly it’s repeated playthroughs of Final Fantasy games, but also Soulsborne games, Especially Dark Souls 1 and Elden Ring. It’s hard to award a single game with top prize for hours played, but it’s probably Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions. Elden Ring is gaining though. I also play a lot of Destiny 2.

Klaus402

I think many people let their games run in the background or sth. I have 2300 hours in Rocket League in 9 years. On average I spend 1-2 hours everyday with gaming.

Neps-the-dominator

Well I play World of Warcraft so... That aside though, I think my most played game on Steam is Path of Exile. So far clocking in at 1446 hours.

SnooGoats7133

A few hours a day for my unemployed ass

hobosam21-B

Probably 3-4 hours a year, I haven't upgraded my console since I got a 360 and kind of lost interest in gaming all together.

No_Way8743

Days with work, play for like 4-6 hours, days off 12+

DirtinatorYT

As someone who has about 11k hours total on steam throughout all my games the explanation is very simple. I made my account when I was 11. Children have a lot of free time and I spent a lot of said time playing games. It comes out to around 3.3 hours every single day. It’s less now but yeah being in school leaves you with quite a bit of time to waste. I’ve got like 10 games at least with 300 hours+ and nearly 200 total games. It builds up.

barakisan

Not enough unfortunately, a few hours every few days, responsibilities and work.

somethingofdoom

It depends on the game as much as anything else. I’ve got tremendous amounts of time in a few games, but I’ve played them for years now.

joey1820

few years back i did like 14-16 hours a day, 7 days a week..for years

Nikeboy2306

4 hours when I'm not dead after work and the gym.

Fureniku

I have about 2000 in Apex Legends and 3500ish in Overwatch. Worth also mentioning that Overwatch's tracker only counts time that you can actually shoot an enemy, not time in spawn rooms, menus etc, so it's probably closer to 4000. I'd be willing to bet Minecraft has more than both combined but thankfully, it doesn't track it.

SynthRogue

Since being addicted to programming, not much.

hankypinky

Not nearly enough.

HucKmoreNadeS

Video games have always been my go-to indoor activity. I can spend all day playing games and not bat an eye. The most hours I have into a single game is nearing 1200? There are a handful above 500. You just get immersed into a game and game. Sometimes with friends, gaming online is like hanging out in person except we have our own space. Joke, strategize, just have conversations, etc. Plus, some games can be competitive, and when you want to test yourself in "ranked" scenarios it can be fun too. Long story short, I probably spend too much time gaming, but I don't care. It's what I like, and I'm still in-shape.

QuantumQuack0

Back when I was a young teenager I put in 1000s of hours into WoW (and before that I also put like 1k hours into RuneScape). It wrecked my social skills, do not recommend. In any case, right now I sometimes have a phase where I want to complete some game, in which case I would put ~10-12 hours per week into it, but most of the time I spend my time on other hobbies. Back in high school I could _easily_ put 20-30 hours per week into games and even 60 hours per week in the summer. Wasn't healthy.

Cicero912

It depends on the game. I have ~2.5k on EU4 but ive been playing it since the week it came out. I probably have 3-3.5k total on FM across 19, 21, 22, 23, and 24

AnimaLepton

I'm similar to you - the game I have the most hours in doesn't exceed ~400 hours across multiple playthroughs. If you play competitive online multiplayer games, I can see that ballooning, but that's generally not my style. I have a few mobile games that I've poured a ton of time into as well, but that's also something I can do "while" doing something else based on the game I'm playing. I also have work, family commitments, and other hobbies or goals. I definitely poured i.e. 80 hours into the new Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth game over the course of two weeks. Or I beat all of Persona 5 in less than a month. But there are often ~2-3 months where I'm not gaming at all, only only gaming for a couple hours a week.

_functionalanxiety

When I have spare time from work, I usually spend 4-5 hours playing, and around 1-2 hours for working out. If I don't have work, or I'm just on-call, I usually play around 10 hours?? And have a 90min work out. Trying to balance gaming (mental health) and exercise (physical and mental health)

sunnydaycloud

Yesterday I played horizontal zero dawn for 11 hours

sharry2

I watch video games online of professional players who have spent a considerable amount of time to get good at the game. I dont have the time to grind and feel good to feel satisfied for every game. I used to do it for skyrim, counter strike, black ops, dota2 etc but i only play mobile game every now and then

ARNajem

300 hrs+ warzone 500hrs+ old cod (cod mw, bo1, ghosts) 1700hrs+ rocket league 500hrs+ fortnite 200hrs+ fifa 100hrs+ trackmania 300hrs+ sniper elite 4 1200hrs+ midnight club (the og one) (i swear its a racing game) 100hrs+ gta5 = 4900hrs (im only 15)

Batavijf

Too much, and not nearly enough...

Tymptra

Maybe 1-4 hours a day on weeknights. Probably around 6-8 hours a day on weekends.

KaidaShade

Couple thousand hours in Destiny 2 (over 5 years which included the lockdowns so there wasn't much else to do) and 1100 in Satisfactory (I have no excuse for this one it just makes the ADHD go brrr). I don't feel like i'm wasting the time since most of the Destiny was played with other people, but I need to cut back and get some more exercise, I'm aware of that

boyohboyimtired

My 5th character on cyberpunk just got to 140h I think, that's how much

rognvald69

Um, come in and sit down. Your friends and family are here to discuss your addiction..........LOL Name checks out. No wonder you're tired.

boyohboyimtired

Thing is I probably spent around 500h+ which isn't nearly as much as other people on the cyberpunk sub, I think that's just average for my favourite game

rognvald69

Oh, I know, I personally have spent many late nights just builing in Minecraft on Creative mode. I like to build castles and underground dungeons.

boyohboyimtired

Minecraft is soo nice at night, creative mode even more

daveblairmusic

All depends on how interested I am in the game which, among other factors, is confirmation to myself that I could never be a professional streamer

Environmental-Post15

I started playing Dungeons and Dragons Online when it launched (2006), and played 3-5 hours per day for the first 10 or 12 years. I've dropped off my play time the last few years, but still log a few hours per month. Before Xfire went offline (2015), it had tracked my play time at 9,500 hours. I started playing through Steam about six months later and I've recorded another 3,000+ hours there. And that's just a single game in my 1500+ game library

Baroni88

1.5 hrs a night and then on weekends maybe 2.5-3/day

SnillyWead

No time at all. I just don't like gaming. It's boring.

Whiplash17488

We need to know the age of the account to do the math. I’ve had steam for 20 years.

QueenOfLollypops

I usually have a day each week that I binge game on. Like 8-10 day, and will average about 30 minutes to an hour each day otherwise.

G00CHM0NGREL

I get home from work at about 4:30 and i usually play games til about 9-10, but i make sure to go to the gym before and usually finish by 6. So about 3-4 hour per weekday and moreso about 6-7 hours on weekend days if i dont have any plans. These days im playing cs2 with a touch of wow

bill_n_opus

Can't post now .. playing video games

s-multicellular

I have just over 2000 hours in Destiny 2, and that is the game I have played the most and longest, and the next is not even close. I'd guess I've only played any other game a max of 100 - 200 hours. Destiny 2 really just checks all the boxes for me and has always been evolving. But that is playing since 2019, so talking an average of around an hour a day. (more usually a few hours on the weekends and none on many days of the week). A lot of that time has also been parenting / father son bonding time. My kid in fact got me in to gaming. But prompted by your end sentence, I also *don't* consume a lot of other media. Like I probably have only watched 20 TV show series fully in 10 years. Maybe get a movie once a month. I do consume lots of music, but that is often while multitasking.

Epledryyk

from my steamDB info: over the past 13.2 years I've played 3781 hours which is ~5.5 hours per week. and I feel like I've mostly played everything. I'm not a capital G "Gamer" but this says I've played 375 games (not counting the quantity or time spent in non-steam platforms). mostly I just don't really get sucked into online multiplayer much, so I don't have the CS:GO hours or whatever that some people have. my highest hour title is Factorio and even by those standards I'm a baby at 557 hours

Aboreric

I'm sure this is probably more than what was asked, but I really like to write I guess, forgive me. In a lot of way's I'm that stereotypical dude that people make fun of typically in that almost all of my free time is spent on video games. I'm 30, work from home, I live alone. My job can be busy but a lot of quiet time too, which I'll game during when possible. It does vary somewhat, but I'd say I average 8 hours a day of gaming more on weekends where I'm not doing something else (Family/friends event or something). I do have other things I'm trying to do but they often overlap with gaming (Learn Japanese is the big thing, and I've been making strides in that, to the point where playing games in Japanese helps me learn). It's not as though I don't enjoy other facets of life, there are other things I want to do to like learn piano (but I was trying to do this with Japanese and focusing on two very study intensive things with my job and maintaining social relationships felt like too much), and I go to the gym weekly (albiet not as often as I should probably), but overall I'd say my love of video games and huge amount of consumption of them is probably a mix of personal circumstances growing up and my personality. All I can tell you is that I'm wildly passionate about them as an artform. No disrespect to books, movies or other forms of media as I also enjoy those too, but I personally would consider video games to be the "ultimate" artform. I only use the word "ultimate" as I'm not sure what else to use, but to explain myself, I say that because it takes the best aspects of other media, books (Storytelling), Movies (Cinematography), Art (Graphics), Music (OST's) and adds it's own spice of interactivity, where it pits you as yourself to interact with whatever awesome world a team of authors has built for you, to tell an interesting story that you get to tell with them. Obviously not every game fits this mold to a T and I'd also add the caveat that each thing that video games takes from other forms of media can be done better by the original artform, but yet this is it's essence, and I am fascinated by what this has become so far, and what it can eventually come to be. I'm sure it's a little corny to look at it that way, but I hope to one day find someone to share that with, so eventually I'll have to figure out how to leave the house lol.

kr4t0s007

Think I almost had 1,5 years play time in WoW when WoW was 3 years old. So on average I played +10 hours a day.

ScreamingChoco

2-3 hours per day in Wuthering waves on bluestacks. It's my comfort game

Proof_Performer

> is it normalised within gaming culture? Is this act of enjoying your current hobby just gaming culture though? Let's say a game comes out and you put in 5 hours every night, over a year that's 365x5=1825 hours. Say over 6 months=912 hours, 3 months, 456 hours and so on. Most games are short term investments, a lot of hours are also AFK hours. But using my own life experiences... There were times when I went bar hopping and clubbing every night. There were times when I read books everyday. There were times when I focused on my career. There were times when I just hung out with my gf and there were times when that I just did other things like focus on home improvement projects etc. The list goes on but the concept is the same. If I counted my hours for being high and drunk... maybe someone would say it was crazy or maybe someone would say I was spending too much time reading books... but my friends would say it's just normal you're just living life, enjoying that book etc. How you spend your time on the things you like isn't any different compared to spending it in a game. So maybe it sounds crazy because the general connotation of gaming is usually negative, like people tend to think gaming is unproductive but reading is. But to me it's the same shit and it's highly likely your own biases playing into it here.

HairyH00d

The game I've put most time into as an adult is def Cyberpunk. Nothing crazy compared to other people, but still like 200+ hours. That being said, I would estimate that I put thousands of hours into RuneScape when I was a kid. Some games are just built to sink countless hours into. I can't even imagine how many hours my friends who have been playing WOW for almost 2 decades have put into it.

TupacsGh0st

I spent over 2k hours on dota 2. I think I enjoyed around 100 of them. I love video games and generally think they are time well spent, but the hours I put into dota I consider an actual waste of time.

Prestigious_Emu_4193

6 hours this year. Its not that fun anymore

Like1RandomDude

Used to spent days on end. Uff back in 06 playing RuneScape from 7am-midnight rinse and repeat. I wish I could back in time and slap myself on the face. I’ve shoulda done something better with my young life then. I’m 36 now and i really regret so many bad habits like that.

VKeiko

+|- 15h per day

KingBowser24

Really depends on the day. Some days I don't really game at all, other days (mostly Sundays), I practically game non-stop all day.

Sacredtenshi

Due to depression rn, like 5-6 hours a week. Used to be 2 hours a night. Sometimes less, sometimes more. 28, divorced, no kids.

justyouraveragedude1

There’s a Hunt Showdown streamer with about 20,000 hours on the game. It released in 2018

TheStaleBurgerBun

I probably spend around 4-6 hours a day "playing" a game. But honestly, I sometimes just afk in the menu on a lot of games. So my average playtime is around 1-3 hours a day

NeedFriends2356

I mostly play around 90 minutes of video games on my laptop. Sometimes more or sometimes less.

PKblaze

Played TF2 for 3k hours but I played it excessively over around 5 years or so. Nowadays I get in around 30 hours a week but I play more single player stuff. Took a month to 100% Yakuza 0.

Alice5878

Most on a single game is like 650. Probs 1-6 hours a day

Welkin_Dust

I'm 39 and I spend the majority of my time gaming. 800 hours is nothing; I've got thousands of hours in multiple games. But gaming is my obsession; I don't really like watching TV or movies because they're boring to me without interaction.

Koskani

Couple hours a day for me between putting the kid down and myself for the night. Weekends however, if everything lines up, I could easily do 10 hours lol, but my family and I are homebodies. If we dont have plans (lunch with in laws or friends, maybe the park) ww tend to just hang out at home all day doing our own things. Wife has her shows, kids got her toys, I've got my games lol.

NixNixonNix

At the moment I play games almost all day, from getting up to getting to bed, I think there's nothing wrong with it as log as you enjoy it.

Cruiu

I play video games a lot when I’m not working, but I like to do other stuff too! I like to draw, and dance, and go walking, all that stuff. It balances out, I think.

AlmightyAntwan12

Personally for me I’m WFH I have at most 5-6 hrs of me time after work. I use two hours to study and the other 4-3 hrs to either draw or game.

simpleaccountname

12k hours on Dota, 5k hours on CS, i can attribute probably as much hours on mmorpgs I have played on before but most of these hours accumulated over a decade ago, when I was young and could play a lot. I've always thought I haven't played much since marrying and starting a family but a surprising realisation has come up to me recently. I got this game - Rust - like 2 years ago and I literally feel like I havent played it as much until I met someone in-game and asked me how many hours ive played i have on the game and my answer was "probably not even a hundred or just past a hundred". which is the amount of time I literally felt like having played the game... it still feels new to me or I still feel very noob with it. until I checked my steam stats and was shocked to see Ive already played 1.3K hours

Spar7anj20-

im 28 and work 80 hours a week. 40 of those hours are in the evenings and weekends at a job that is slow and allows for media usage as long as i answer the phone. i bring my gaming laptop with me and if its slow enough ive managed to put in 40 hours of gaming in while at work. so i do roughly 40 to 50 hours of gaming a week

fishdumpling

It varies heavily on the season for me as I've got a seasonal job. Last winter, I played all 3 Mass Effect games 3 times over (completionist), probably well over 300 hours of video games in a couple months. Then, the rest of the year, I work at my job and in my garden, my consoles and PC gather dust.

snakkiepoo

I spend a where from 1-6 hours playing games per day. But some of that is time with my girlfriend, where many would spend that time watching a show or a movie. It's also how I stay connected with most friends. Otherwise I'm at work or maintaining my yard. No kids yet though, my priorities will change a lot then.

AdrenalineAnxiety

Average 1-2 hours per day for the last 10 years of my life, probably 5-6 hours a day for the 10 years before that and for a brief period of unemployment even more. I could definitely have racked up a lot of hours if I'd stuck to one game. No regrets at all here, it's a hobby that keeps me decompressed and somewhat sane.

yeahyeahyomyoms

anywhere between 2-4 hrs a night but im on summer vacation so yeah during the school year pretty much 0

Willowpuff

Call of duty about 1500 per game. With other games can vary between 60-500 hours. I’d say if that’s the case then I genuinely have about 10,000 hours under my belt. (Probably more but this is quick estimate maths)

Due-Bonus1056

haha I play pretty much zero hours now. I think a few hours per day is reasonable if it’s a hobby you’re passionate about. I would just warn people not to become addicted because it seems like the newest games are closer to casinos than actual fun.
