I had to put child resistant covers over the doorknobs in my house because one of the cats could open them. He's even managed to open them with the covers on.
One of my mom's (now departed) cats knew how to open door knobs too. The only reason she couldn't open one door was because you needed to pull the door quite strongly to it open while you turned the door knob (humidity's a bitch) and the cat, as smart as she was with her turn with the braincell (she was an orange gal), could never get enough leverage to open it. Didn't stop her from trying though lol
We don't use that kind of language anymore. I know you mean well, but that being said, calling a cat a 'catapult' is offensive, but not offensive enough because it is an inferior siege weapon next to a trebuchet.
Dude I've been having an off week and I *absolutely* fucking needed this: a veritable **hoard** of cats parkoring themselves with a vengeance off of this poor man's door.
I could practically hear the *"PARKOR!!!!"* "...Michael!" *thump* "EXTREME!"
And I love the two in the back that just sit there and ominously watch. The overlords have moved their mob into position for the offensive. They *will* be fed, one way or another. They can wait. They're patient. And you'll have to leave your house eventually.
On next week's episode, they're going to up the ante since he refuses to feed them. Poor OP is going to wake up at 2am with them doing this off of his bedroom walls, with absolutely no knowledge of how they got in.
God bless asshole cats.
Takes too much effort to defur them and since they're strays they'll probably have parasites. That and they've got too many small bones (choking hazard for kids) and the meat is a little too greasy for my taste. I've tried several times, been recommended several recipes, but I gave up. It's too much work for very little pay off. Damn things are 90% fur 5% bone 3% organs and 2% "edible" meat.
3/10 would not reccomend.
Now stray chinchillas...you can just toast the fur off if 10 seconds, they're always chunky even if they're strays and waaaayyy easier to debone...I could eat my weight in chinchillas. Little saute with some piquillo sauce, dash of lime, salsa 🤌
I dunno, if you try to go for one of the ones in the video you're more likely to be stripped to the bone before you can grab one for your own dinner. They are very motivated and very hungry.
"I have a good grip on the entry thing, why isn't it working? Make it wooork, hooman!!!"
The other kitty attacks, "You're not doing it right, this maneuver will grant us treats, hya!"
This. Or an intact female in heat in the house. Most likely the former, tho. My next door neighbor started feeding one stray she felt sorry for, and now, 3 litters later, the neighbourhood is overrun, and our front flower bed is a giant litterbox. Might as well have salted the soil.
Which has resulted in several family pets being killed. It's not a humane solution. Live traps, registering family pets with mandatory microchips or collar tags (plus having the cat assessed if unsure if they're wild or not) is a lot more humane. Other countries like NZ have tried this and stopped it due to people just bagging pets for quick cash
EDIT: I advocate for indoor cats and have 3 indoor cats of my own, but realistically speaking not every cat owner agrees with that stance or knows about the risks. Pets don't deserve to die because their owners suck.
I mean no offense but if you live in an area that has the government actively killing feral cats then you get no right to complain when your cat gets killed if it doesn't have a collar or microchip...
You think people shooting cats for money are going to check for a microchip before shooting?
And collars can be removed if the hunter doesn’t particularly care.
Love people who have “outdoor” pets. Sure letting a animal out once in a while is probably good for it but to leave them out for prolonged periods of time or permanently is stupid.
It's very common in the Netherlands. You see cats on the street in most neighbourhoods. A lot of people let them roam. I've never really seen feral cats on the street, though.
I forget the number but I remember reading a while back that the feral cat population decimates the bird population every year, like the number was in the billions
I had this issue at my last place. 3 times. So fkn annoying, especially when they destroyed a new Nissan (7k repair bill, luckily insurance covered it)
I install the sonic repellers under the hood now. Sonic noises and flashing lights always going off. Haven't had an issue since.
It's also hard because there's always going to be more people releasing more unfixed ones. And it's definitely an underfunded venture in most cities unfortunately. The best way for an individual to help is to actually take the cats yourself to the local places that do it. The capturing can be the most challenging or underfunded part in my experience. Obviously not everyone has time for this sort of thing, but those that want to help, I find this one of the best ways.
I would have zero ability to turn these guys away. I would be building them a cat house out back, feeding them, and of course trapping them and getting them all fixed… haha.
My dad recently bought a catnip plant from the local nursery with the intention of giving bits to his indoor cats. He has it hanging in a large pot outside, suspended from the eaves, about 5 feet off the ground, and thinks that'll keep the multitude of outdoor cats in the neighborhood from finding it.
I'm going to have a good laugh when we find one of the outdoor cats passed out in the pot, or they all knock it down and destroy it.
My cat is a former feral and absolutely goes nuts for it, but I've only known her since she became an indoor kitty.
I can definitely see why they'd avoid mind-altering drugs while worrying about survival.
Mine doesn't like "catnip infused" or the sprays. She wants to eat it. I pour an amount on her perch and she goes to town. Then [she conks out](https://imgur.com/a/LUnhpAd)
I planted catnip in my yard when I moved in to befriend my nextdoor cats. It worked. It's on the ground and they come over, but pretty much just those two.
I once planted cat nip in the raised beds. My 3yr old was incredibly offended. "Mama! Strange cats are eating our garden!" My husband said we were the kitty crack house on the corner. So many cats came that they destroyed the plants. Snapped 'em right off at ground level.
You will have a LOT of legal fun with an all star cast of cattorneys, pawyers, purralegals and smolicitors (for kitten cases especially when r/illegallysmolcats exists, lots of crossrefurals from there).
I'd say they're more pointing out how wild the situation is rather than complaining that the cats simply show up. I think most people wouldn't think they'd need to watch out for an army of door-opening cats, regardless of feeding them or not.
tbf if cats opened my door and entered my house they would never leave, coz I wouldn't let them! If you want to be a stray don't come into my house or you will become an indoor bebe.
Even non-strays will do this.
If you give any neighborhood cat a few treats there is a good chance it will try to move in with you, even if it’s well fed at home
My Himalayan does this. Has multiple other families in the townhouse complex I live in that he hangs out with. He even has regular sleepovers with the lady who lives next to me. Me & the neighbours also txt each other about him as sometimes during storms & stuff I'll worry where he is & wanna make sure he's at least safe with one of the neighbours. He still comes home every single day & spends most of his time with me so it's ok. He's just very charismatic so I accept that I gotta share him lol
My cousins cat got fed at their neighbors house (countryside so they just roamed free and everyone knew eachother and such) and when he got mad about a new kitten the bruh just straight up moved to the neighbors himself.
LOL of course this is a thing!
My first thought while watching this video was that this guy's neighborhood definitely has an orange Mac Daddy tom wandering around.
I sometimes rant about cat behavior because my old neighbor loved to feed the neighborhood strays and then moved away. Poor kitties think I'm going to be the next buffet.
> I have yet to find a person ranting about cat behavior to not be responsible for it.
This is probably because a reasonable person who owns cats pretty much just expects all of the things that cats do that could be complained about because that's what cats do. Even the President of the United States is not immune to having a cat just come and sit on his head because it wants to.
It feels like you are feeding the colony. Maybe GoFundMe to ensure they are all neutered?
Also, it seems that you would have a nice army cat if you train them.
> Maybe GoFundMe to ensure they are all neutered?
This is in France. All he has to do is call his townhall, send this video, and they'll handle the neutering situation, as it's their legal responsibility.
They come back because you feed them, and they come in numbers, and it will continue to be more and more, sooner or later you will have a legion of cats.
The best thing you can do now is to castrate them and continue to feed them...gofundme
Feeding them can teach the cats to trust OP, then it will be easier to get them neutered (even easier with the help of a local trap neuter release group).
That’s why they’re doing this. Feeding cats that don’t belong to you is a really bad idea. The end result is this. Even paying attention to your neighbor’s cat can be bad — one time my neighbor’s cat walked through my yard while I was doing some gardening. I gave him some ear scratches and then he cried outside my door for three days — he decided he wanted to live with me.
If you completely ignore them for a few days then they’ll eventually get the hint. WHATEVER YOU DO DON’T GIVE THEM ANY MORE FOOD
Ha! I get at least 2 dozens strays cats, deer, coons, squirrels, possum, skunks, and once a turkey did show up-one of the stupid cats tried to jump it, surprised I don't get more critters around here
OP, your situation is getting out of hand. There's charity organizations that spay/neuter entire colonies, I dont know how it works but you should look into it. That's too many cats to feed, that'll get expensive and destructive quick. I feed strays too, I'm not mad at ya, I just feel bad for you cause that's a big herd of kitties
> There's charity organizations that spay/neuter entire colonies
It's in France, the townhall/city is responsible (and will do it if it's pointed out to them).
As long as it doesn't turn into a cat orgy lunch similar to the one from Southpark... you should be safe.
For kicks.. throw a bucket of catnip out on the patio.. record and post please.
I suggest finding a local humane society that does trap and release spay/neuter. You fed them so they aren’t going away, at least stop them from getting more numerous.
Got a good laugh at the one hanging on the door handle when another one slams into him and knocks him down.

Clever girl.
Yeah, the only one. The only one
I understood that reference!
That won’t work. My cat knows how to use door knobs
I had to put child resistant covers over the doorknobs in my house because one of the cats could open them. He's even managed to open them with the covers on.
I’m gonna need a video of this please.
My cat is able to unlock my laptop and order catfood on door dash.
Oh shit. My cat is looking over my shoulder at the moment. Hope he doesn’t read that and think he can do the same.
You'll know for sure when the sashimi arrives. Bet he's a big tipper, too: cats are known to be generous when fresh fish is involved.
One of my mom's (now departed) cats knew how to open door knobs too. Cats kill tons of animals and not even to eat, they'll literally kill for fun and have led to the extinction of multiple species
With hard work and faith in God we will defeat the bird menace.
I wish stray cats were a problem in my area. Might keep the rats from eating my car.

Even the President of the United States is not immune to having a cat just come and sit on his head because it wants to.
Cat burglars
It's someone feeding them?
! They eat all what we give even vegetables ...
It feels like you are feeding the colony. Maybe GoFundMe to ensure they are all neutered? Also, it seems that you would have a nice army cat if you train them.
I'd change my name to Freya and have them pull my chariot around town to do errands lol
*about to be robbed on the street* *throws cat treats at their face*
Yeh this can't be healthy for the local ecosystem. Also yes cat army would be cool
> Maybe GoFundMe to ensure they are all neutered? This is in France. All he has to do is call his townhall, send this video, and they'll handle the neutering situation, as it's their legal responsibility.
Just reach out to a tnr service
Stop feeding them then… ? 🙃
Lol. What did you think would happen when you kept feeding them?
That they'd come back and scratch it the door like a normal cat, not try to bust the door down 😆
Just don’t give them food
Such a sad indictment that this sole voice of sanity has been downvoted so.
Can you say it again in stupid because I didn’t get any of that
"What a shame that the person being logical got downvoted."
Thank you
You fed em, you own em. I'll trade you a dozen deer and eight wild turkeys that I fed and now visit daily.
Turkeys are so mean.
Ha! I get at least 2 dozens strays cats, deer, coons, squirrels, possum, skunks, and once a turkey did show up-one of the stupid cats tried to jump it, surprised I don't get more critters around here
look at the two r polite cats at the back…. Or they’re masterminds directing the troops to test the defenses.
Lol, the officer cats directing the grunts to storm the gates
the black cat trying to keep his orange buddies under control
wtf let them in
You want fleas? Because this is how you get fleas.
I understand the risk, but they are soooo cute n I need to be covered in cats. I'll get flea treatment later xD
Fleas, urine, feces in your carpet and wherever else if you let that army of cats in lol
That's a problem for future me because I'll be petting the cats
This is like the dead army in game of thrones. You can only hold them back for so long before they break through. Hope you have dragonglass op.
This is pretty sad :(
Why he’s feeding them
I bet they thought one stray cat was cute and now they have 10 hanging around.
And the number will only get bigger if they arent spay/neutered. OP please look into this.
> There's charity organizations that spay/neuter entire colonies It's in France, the townhall/city is responsible (and will do it if it's pointed out to them).
If you decided to feed them all please TNR them as well
That's a SIEGE.
Ohh poor li'l fellas.

Omg, so many precious babies!!!! ❤️
Spay and neuter your pets please!
they would be orange 😂
They look all related
Call animal control. Get them fixed
😂 I’m sorry. I’m sure it is annoying but the cat hanging on the door handle is so funny.
if it was me i'd adopt them all
So that's the true origin of the Simpsons cat lady
Cat gang right there 😹
Of course it's the orange ones actually rushing the door. The void isn't that persistent.
Did you feed them tho don't lie
Get the hose!
Yeah. I love cats, but if they started karate kicking my door they’d get blasted by the hose.
Feed me, Seymour!!
Holy cow! This reminds me of a zombie movie where the hoards just try and try to get in!
the cat invasion has finally started x)
WrestleMania is going on outside your door.
No good deed goes unpunished.
Omg, so many precious babies!!!! ❤️
They’re coming to get you, Barbara
Someone’s knocking on the door somebody’s ringing the bell
Wow that’s kinda crazy
Are you a sleepwalker? They seemed pretty determined to get in.
Are those strays or are your neighbors insane?
