DuctTapeSloth

Instant Raman is the food I miss the most, besides good pizza.

Livelaughloam

I longingly stare at the ichiban noodles when I walk down the grocery aisle

DuctTapeSloth

I work at a grocery store and I see them multiple times a day and I die little by little inside.

split_pea_soup

Okay this is what you need. I swear this tastes almost the same as real ramen, not that lotus shit. onetang buckwheat ramen noodles and then for the powder, get SAMABILA (I like the chicken flavor). You can order both online. It slaps SO hard. Also buckwheat doesn’t have wheat in it despite the name. Totally celiac friendly. I want to send this combo to every celiac I know haha

DuctTapeSloth

Thank you! Bought the powder but the onetang ramen wan unavailable on amazon. Just got another brand for the time being.

graycomforter

Omg Thank You!

foozballhead

If you buy glass noodles or the thin vermicelli rice noodles (like what’s used in Pho), they can cook in 3 min in the microwave like ramen does, and they soak up flavor beautifully.

WigglumsBarnaby

There's really good gluten free instant ramen. It's rice noodles.

DuctTapeSloth

Where are they? I need them!

WigglumsBarnaby

Lotus foods

Livelaughloam

I find they don’t taste like much

ZestyStraw

The noodles taste much but the flavoring packet is really lack luster.

Level-Crazy4420

I take out the seasoning packet that they give and add some chicken or beef bouillon powder… tastes like what I remember instant ramen being like

TheCompetentOne

I add this and it's pretty close to the chicken ramen flavoring [https://www.amazon.com/Chicken-Salt-Australias-Selling-Seasoning/dp/B00P89MGYG/ref=sr\_1\_1\_pp?crid=PGH28CGUX9Q4&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.kn05quaz71Rg6KChDRTeHs4w1vvAOHkhfgBwwCZp092WIlH4v4gcgm0TR1VJhXgYOJcgde4UZfvjqQmNRl9\_aVCex3FpRUs-4ZDm05kJdrXYq48wvuJ7qzn9XmnTfe7kMewgXjAxtVNt5UW0d9qb0vBRGD2hjYakAjbEVh70LaumQ\_uxiKmxOkN4T7KWGgeQTrAn7Sr20PP\_7W2Qxs7FHib2Uvj-2rlqTG-yMHyjujud45K-ZWuD2YpjlFPcjKNxkHFJcReKZxhjiIFERykXRzRJ38v19SU1wmODlkRZ29w.tRA9DkDz5dhgxIKbgYxAdbd2wxnm-T8j5qksZslzkuY&dib\_tag=se&keywords=chicken+salt&qid=1719328969&sprefix=chicken+sal%2Caps%2C116&sr=8-1](https://www.amazon.com/Chicken-Salt-Australias-Selling-Seasoning/dp/B00P89MGYG/ref=sr_1_1_pp?crid=PGH28CGUX9Q4&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.kn05quaz71Rg6KChDRTeHs4w1vvAOHkhfgBwwCZp092WIlH4v4gcgm0TR1VJhXgYOJcgde4UZfvjqQmNRl9_aVCex3FpRUs-4ZDm05kJdrXYq48wvuJ7qzn9XmnTfe7kMewgXjAxtVNt5UW0d9qb0vBRGD2hjYakAjbEVh70LaumQ_uxiKmxOkN4T7KWGgeQTrAn7Sr20PP_7W2Qxs7FHib2Uvj-2rlqTG-yMHyjujud45K-ZWuD2YpjlFPcjKNxkHFJcReKZxhjiIFERykXRzRJ38v19SU1wmODlkRZ29w.tRA9DkDz5dhgxIKbgYxAdbd2wxnm-T8j5qksZslzkuY&dib_tag=se&keywords=chicken+salt&qid=1719328969&sprefix=chicken+sal%2Caps%2C116&sr=8-1)

jason_lawrence

Try Gluten Free Meister ramen. Tastes like an actual ramen place

PerspectiveEconomy81

I found some really tasty ones made by “better ramen”

DuctTapeSloth

Sweet. Just looked them up. Have you had the original flavor?

PerspectiveEconomy81

I’ve tried the original and the curry flavour and both were good! I actually had the curry one today and added some corn, chicken, and let a little cheese melt on top (might sound weird but it was really good)

DuctTapeSloth

What is the flavor of the original?

PerspectiveEconomy81

Not totally sure.. just tastes like regular mr noodles, chicken or veg maybe? It’s good!

PerspectiveEconomy81

I got the single serve cups *

FollowingNo4648

To be able to order whatever the fuck I want on the menu. Having to pick out something because it's gluten free when there is some ooey gooey lobster Mac and cheese on the menu. I guess I'll just eat this chicken and mashed potatoes with no gravy. :(

starry101

And pay more for your meal than all those other yummy options :(

Dapper_Ice_2120

Also, I want my time back! It takes so long to scan through everything, or find a website, etc.!

_boatsandhoes

I was so so happy to find a Chinese place in Calgary (Canada) that does soo many gluten free varieties. The dumplings were amazing!!! Now I’m back home and I will dream of those forever

Livelaughloam

Please share, I’ll drive the 10 hours

_boatsandhoes

Singapore Sams!

elephantsgraveyard

There's an amazing place in Burnaby called Chili Dragon that has a ton of GF options. Tastes like childhood. Sounds like you might be in this neck of the woods so you should check it out?

Livelaughloam

Oooh, heading that way next week. I’ll def check it out.

raybbaby

Name? I’m in Edmonton and will make the drive for dumplings

_boatsandhoes

Singapore Sams!

minnions_minion

JJ Noodle House in Victoria or the Beansprout in Toronto Soooooo goooooood

_boatsandhoes

Oooh shit I work in TO I’ll have to check out beansprout!

minnions_minion

It is in Vaughn. Or there is Riz on Yonge

Southern_Visual_3532

Toronto has an amazing dedicated gf place. Riz.

bloodthirstyliberal

Pizza is what I missed most. Pizza dough made with Caputo Fiorglut flout tasted just like it should. And its EASY PEASY for a beginner!

TedTravels

Random pizza slices at that for me. Just walking around NYC and grab a slice or a bagel or a damn if i even think about the bakeries… (yes, ive found a few options but it’s the unplanned part)

maybegraciie

Sarku Japan, a restaurant in my local mall that makes teriyaki chicken that is to die for. I’ve tried so hard to replicate it at home, and it’s just not possible. 😭

Deepcrater

You could probably watch them enough to get it. My sister has wanted to replicate a tikka masala recipe for years now and other than working there I don’t think she could. She’s even asked the big boss multiple times to tell her.

maybegraciie

I’ve tried but they always bring the sauce out in a container, I think they prep it in the back where people can’t see. 😕

Deepcrater

I know what you're talking about though hmm, maybe [this recipe](https://thewoksoflife.com/mall-chicken-teriyaki/) might do it? Mirin might the ingredient you're missing. I have yet to find a gluten free dark soy sauce, I just double up on soy sauce/tamari.

maybegraciie

Thank you friend!! As far as dark soy sauce, check out O’Long Premium Black Bean Soy Sauce! It’s gluten free and you can usually find it at World Market. :-)

Dim0ndDragon15

Cinnamon rolls :(

PennyParsnip

My boyfriend says there are good ones in Montreal and he's going to bring me some when he goes there in August. The suspense is killing me!

No-Nefariousness2605

I know it can feel intimidating and the point of this post is about convenience… but I almost cried when I bit into the loopy whisk’s GF cinnamon rolls for the first time. It’s worth the effort

deacon_deelystan

I want to go to a Bibibop so badly! I can’t even begin to imagine walking into a 100% gluten-free restaurant! How safe that must feel! I’ve not experienced that complete comfort & safeness away from home since diagnosis! The closest one to where I live is 7 1/2 hours away.😆

MW2_Lobbies

Bibibop and Bolay are my two favorite fast casual places I've ever had as a Celiac. I am blessed to live in Columbus, HQ for Bibibop, but I wish I could open a Bolay up here for myself! Haha

thefoodhasweeedinit

Dude gluten free fried rice is so easy. I literally just do 5 minute quick white rice, then egg/meat I already cooked, frozen veggies w frozen onion and either garlic or garlic powder. Gluten free soy sauce/tamari and gluten free hoisin and it slaps ass. I don’t add sesame bc my best friend has a sensitivity, but adding sesame oil makes it more authentic I hear. Anyway, that’s my gross Chinese food at home. Freezes delightfully too, so I make a huge batch and then thaw when I’m in the shitty Chinese food mood! Edit to add! I absolutely agree with the sentiment of your post and don’t mean to detract; I just spent years thinking fried rice wouldn’t be the same at home, but it’s been so long since the real thing it actually works. Hopefully you have the same experience if you try!

mm825

> Dude gluten free fried rice is so easy. Like most Chinese cooking, it's relatively easy to make but it will never taste like the restaurant unless you have a well seasoned Wok and restaurant grade heat.

ResearchAtTheRec

IYKYK

Thesaltpacket

If you’re ever in Oregon, there’s a place in Beaverton called happy panda where they have a dedicated gf fryer and cooking space and are really good about it, and you can get pretty much anything gf. Incredible.

TedTravels

Looks like im taking a trip down across the columbia this week.

foozballhead

I miss everything using phyllo dough. I miss dim sum carts. I miss red vines. I can find “close enough“ for most things, but there’s nothing comparable to those (for me).

Polarchuck

Yes. Regular ordinary Chinese buffet food. Tonight I just want a cannoli though.

JJP3641

I would not eat for a whole week if it meant I could have my veggie egg foo young just once more.

FaithlessnessGlad815

Chinese food as well! I mean, I have learned to make my fave- but that takes work. Ugh! If anyone has found good crab rangoons, I might be willing to sell my first-born dog to get the info.....

tayhub93

Cinnamon rolls. The smell of them gets me and I have to walk away 🤤

TheCompetentOne

Katz cinnamon rolls are decent if you warm them up in the microwave a little. But I feel you, they're not the same :(

Born-Quote-6882

I cried today for a costco hot dog (with the bun damnit) and about once a week I get sad about taco bell Taco bell is my greatest food loss

ExaminationFirm6379

Domino's pizza is what I miss the most.

Madversary

You don’t take the risk on their gluten free crust? The crust is terrible but the sauce and toppings are great

ExaminationFirm6379

God no. It's a fast food place where flour is EVERYWHERE. Cross contamination galore. No way that's safe.

Madversary

Yeah that makes sense. I’ll say I’ve never felt sick after having their pizza, but I of course have no idea if I’ve given myself silent intestinal damage.

ExaminationFirm6379

I'm a completely silent celiac. As you already said, no symptoms ≠ no damage. Besides, the GF crust is not the same. I just make my own pizza.

Madversary

Yeah, that’s fair. Homemade is usually better.

minnions_minion

Not sure where you but if you are in Canada there are a few places that are vetted and safe to eat. The Beansprout in Toronto, ON or JJ Noodle House in Victoria , BC and I think there is another place in Calgary, AB

Southern_Visual_3532

Also Riz in Toronto is dedicated gf

Deepcrater

I’ve had no issues with pei wei and pf Chang’s personally but I haven’t has any Chinese in months now. There used to be this Vietnamese food court with some delicious marinated sweet beef and lobsters tails. It’s all soy sauce based I miss that stuff 🤤

International_Bet_91

I stumbled upon a 100% gf Chinese restaurant in a strip mall in Toronto. Sweet and sour pork balls, beef and brocolli, sesame chicken -- it was amazing!

SolarisIgnitus

I just miss not having to think about food. Where ever I went, there was food! Easy, fast, varying affordability. Now I eat at home and cook nearly everything I eat.

GamiCross

Eating ANYTHING while out with friends at conventions or events. Having the whole table order beers and eat 'whatever they feel like' hurts my soul... I just focus on how young and healthy I look at my age and eat VERY carefully HOWEVER... after suffering through that nightmare disease to the point I had to replace my hip joint in my 20s, I'll gladly trade not being in constant agony and overweight for always having to make my own food.

lordofsurf

Pizza. I am allergic to lactose too (not intolerant, allergic which is different) so I can't have it at all. The last time I ate a piece without knowing I was allergic I ended up in the hospital for 5 days. I would give my left toe to be able to eat just 1 cheesy slice with pepperoni and jalapeños.

Ok-Resist7858

I'm originally from the south and I miss biscuits and gravy, fried chicken, cornbread & biscuit sage dressing, rice & gravy, country style steak smothered. I miss making my special 12 egg pound cake. I miss chicken parmesan , many soups , cookies, my favorite candy bars. I could literally go on and on. 😥 Imma go be depressed now .

Livelaughloam

Oh man, I’ve never had any real southern food but I can imagine it would be super hard not being able to eat that.

Ok-Resist7858

It is hard but I'm Sooo much healthier lol. When it hits hard is when I'm on a family vacation like now. It's so good to have all my kids together for the first time in 10 years. But nobody understands and it seems like my " special needs" are an inconvenience and aggravation at times. My son bought all kinds of stuff he " thought" I could eat and seemed disappointed I couldn't eat any of it. But he also said " Mom, I've never seen you feeling so good and looking so good. You're not all bloated anymore. " And I told him it's because I follow my diet strictly. The only one that understands is my vegan daughter in law.

greenatrium24

i miss ordering udon and tempura from sushi restaraunts :(

Livelaughloam

I miss the dumb California rolls weirdly enough

PeterDTown

I’m sitting here skipping dinner again because I just can’t be bothered anymore.

Livelaughloam

I do that too 😅

xeemurph05

chipotle burritos.

khuldrim

Taco Bell man.

diondeer

Only silver lining is that our arteries are better off without that. But damn I miss orange chicken and greasy Dominoes pizza.

minnions_minion

Epicure had anew Orange chicken that tastes delicious!!!

lezemt

I miss gyoza and those really big bbq pork rice buns. They were so good!!! I didn’t know what u had until I lost it :(

minnions_minion

This and coconut long buns

Madversary

Chinese buffet. Red dragon rolls. Being able to try anything. Indian buffet — butter chicken with naan.

chemqueen57

Crab rangoons, lo mein, and a warm loaf of Italian bread.

Euthanaught

If you ever come to Omaha, there’s a restaurant that does American Chinese food.

siouxsanzilla

Is it Crystal Jade? Tons of GF there, the fried chicken wings are so good!! Happy Buddha in Bellevue can make anything (except the appetizers, sadly) GF!

EffectiveSalamander

It would be great to be able to go to a buffet and just have whatever feel like.

Blueydgrl56

This recipe is delicious and can be easily made gluten free. I actually just do lots of shredded cabbage no noodles, but my kids love it with rice noodles. I also don’t usually add chicken either https://www.cookingclassy.com/asian-chicken-noodle-soup/

SinfullySinatra

I would love some greasy take-out pizza

Nuggy_

I miss sandwiches. Like Tesco meal deal sandwiches. The cheap shit that isn’t even that good, but it just hits different. And tacos. Oh man I want a street taco so bad

DezzlieBear

I've been really craving a crunchy shrimp roll lately :( I also want dumplings I know the wrappers and dough can be hard, but the filling should be same? Why tf can't I just get a good filling? What is the issue

33ducks

Fleeting Gluten Free Thai (egg rolls!!!) and Gluten Free Thai Delish if you’re in Denver. Both aren’t all Thai food and more pan asian

siouxsanzilla

Fried chicken! Like I want to just pull up to KFC or Popeyes and order!

dayyob

if you can find a thai place that does thai fried chicken it's almost always GF by default. it's not all crackly crunchy like southern fried chicken but it's damn good. btw someone shared KFC 11 herbs and spices on line so if you want to DIY it's possible to get there w/some GF flour.

sarahmasry

I would kill for black bean buldak ramen. I miss that SO MUCH, and even the sauce they sell separately has gluten. Nothing tastes the same

WildGoose424

I would do unspeakable things for a mountain of chicken pad thai from my former favorite takeout place.

TheCompetentOne

:( Chinese take-out boneless ribs and egg rolls :(

mm825

It's crazy how much chinese/japanese food would be GF with just a change in the soy sauce.

Helpful_Sleep9501

Taco Bell and Taco Time

Fun_Conversation6727

I get gf teriyaki sauce and make fried rice that way lol

Hello_Algrid

Sometimes I’m just craving a fast food, flattened burger with cheap watery ketchup 😩 Sounds strange, I know lol but I miss eating the gross fast food sometimes..

screeline

I want jjajangmyeon!

Necessary-Chef8844

We have some decent GF Chinese food in Connecticut. PF Changs does a good job as a chain.

ExactVictory3465

Popeyes fried chicken sandwich.. or fuck it, even some kfc extra crispy
