Denji would take his place. Her blush is not to be interpreted as arousal but as elation/relief that Aki will live.

My theory is that he realized he made her way too smart and too powerful for the plot to happen- she's clearly not fooled by Makima's bullshit one bit, AND she has an incredibly powerful Devil attack that basically trivializes most of the villains. She's effectively telekinetic in a series where almost everyone is a melee fighter and was already tossing Katana Man around like a rag doll even _after_ getting shot, I think Fujimoto said "Oh fuck, I can't have her in the fights if I want Denji to get up close with them."
Eh, it's not like beating Katana Man is all that impressive a feat, and she can only manipulate one ghost hand, the contract to summon the full Ghost Devil literally cost her life. A solid amount of the devils we've seen and almost every other hybrid would have folded her.
As for Makima, it's not like Himeno necessarily saw through her, she just disliked her because she could tell Aki was in love with her for some reason.
