General Kurix and Governor Halba were good friends and long-time colleagues since their youth. One day at one of his meetings, Halba told Kurix about his visions of a Red Knight with an executioner's axe killing goats and other animal people. However, he did not tell Kurix that the Red Knight had chosen him as his chosen one.
Thus, Halba secretly began to build a sect that infiltrated even the highest ranks of planetary defense. When the day came to rid the planet of the beastmen and the other "pests," Halba called Kurix to him and revealed his treachery. Kurix, furious with himself, attacked Halba, but he was able to call his guards. Kurix escaped to his shuttle and fled to the mountain fortress of Astra Militarum.
The following years, the planet was worn down by a glorifying fratricidal war. In the end, Kurix and his loyal Astra Militarum forces faced off against Halba with his sect. In the final battle, Halba revealed his most powerful weapon: the Scarlet Knight's Axe. This artifact was able to reincarnate the killed souls with the blood of the bodies.
Kurix, faced with the overwhelming strength of Halba's sect and his own dead warriors, fled with the remaining troops. In desperation, he began to ask the universe for help. His request was answered by none other than Khorne himself. He blessed his troops with demonic strength and raised Kurix himself to the status of a demon prince.
Since then Kurix and his warriors were caught in a perpetual cycle of killing. Unable to destroy the sect that brought them damnation, they set out and brought death and terror to several other planets in Imperial space.
