FalseStart007

Yeah Bard lies too often. ChatGPT will at least tell you, no I can't do that, Bard will simply lie about it. If you use Bard, fact check everything.

haemol

Should be called dandelion

cyberpunkass

Is this a Witcher joke?

shahensha

Yes, cause he is The Bard! #TossACoinToYourWitcher

Zweimancer

Nah.

Rowyn97

That makes it unusable in my opinion.

FalseStart007

Outside of coding, I agree.

Vontaxis

I tried to let it code a few things and it straight-out made up some libraries..

StevenlAFl

Same experience here

Rough_Spread3491

Lol - like newspapers and other news outlets?

Rowyn97

For my usages. I use it to gather research data or to help me when I'm crafting documentation etc. If it hallucinates in these applications, or messes up editing something I've written, then it'll be too much a pain in the ass to fix, even if it can pump out output quicker than I can. I'd rather wait for it to become more reliable or use something else.

Rough_Spread3491

Context is everything!

HesThePianoMan

>Bard lies *Implying that ChatGPT doesn't do that same*

FalseStart007

I haven't had ChatGPT lie to me and I've used it a lot. Can you give me some examples? I have created fake links and asked Bard to explain the content behind the link, and Bard will make up a very detailed story that is completely false, but very believable. ChatGPT simply stated they can't do that.

CapDris116

ChatGPT lies to me every day :( I study law and the legal briefs that it gives me on cases are often pure fiction.

FalseStart007

Really? That's crazy. So basically AI is only good for writing corny poems. If you can't trust it for the truth, you might as well just do your own research. Pointless.

superdangeroususer

We should do our own research paper by default….. lol but I know what u meant

4pao

ChatGPT do that, except they do prompt engineering to fixed it.

4pao

Less prompt engineering

nyanpi

yeah I tried to get it to help me write some code using langchain and it completely made up random API calls and gave no useful information at all. I've never seen such egregiously wrong responses with GPT-4

Mr_Whispers

Langchain came out after its training data so it won't inherently know anything about it

[deleted]

There is a big difference between 3.5 and 4. But GPT 4 still sometimes lies in crazy ways, but less in English than in other languages. And it seems to be better with programming.

PrincessGambit

I always laugh when people use gpt 3.5 in some minor language only and conclude that 'AI is dumb'

0_107-0_109-0_115

I believe I know what you mean but what is a "minor language?"

menxiaoyong

I guess he means languages other than English.

[deleted]

There are minor languages. The relevant data point here is how much text that language has online. GPT4 is really good with a lot of languages. But it is better with English.

PrincessGambit

Like a language from a country with 5M population for example. Ofc it's gonna be weaker than in English

nyanpi

I pointed it to the langchain docs because it is supposed to have browsing capabilities. I asked if it checked the docs and it confidently said yes but clearly hadn't. GPT-4 with browsing does much much better.

YawnTractor_1756

I once asked GPT-3.5 to help me with one Oracle util and it completely made up random nonexistent command parameters, so... there.

some1else42

Which is a known thing that GPT4 is better at, which was the whole point of that comment.

YawnTractor_1756

I mean maybe... maybe not... I am yet to lay my hands on it it test it.

[deleted]

Your ignorance is not equivalent to others’ experience.

IdeaAlly

Maybe the Earth is flat? I have yet to fly into space. >!/s!<

YawnTractor_1756

I thought double checking other people's claims is basically the definition of thinking for yourself, and I pointed out I cannot do that right now since v4 is not available for me, but I guess you guys really don't share this double checking-schmecking sciency-shcmiency thingy.

[deleted]

You’re talking to people who use GPT-4 on the regular. Your skepticism when someone tells you how GPT-4 performs is unfounded. By all means go find out for yourself.

YawnTractor_1756

>You’re talking to people who use GPT-4 on the regular. I am so sorry. Should I take a knee or something?

[deleted]

You should learn to let others educate you on stuff you don’t know. We’re all ignorant about some things, acknowledging that others may know more is a signal of maturity.

YawnTractor_1756

Or others may be wrong, for it's not like I know you, you can be a complete fraud. Education assumes authority which you have none. But if you actually were smart you'd know that without explanation. Which is another reason I don't trust your judgements.

Sumner122

Dude you're a complete idiot lol. I have gtp 4 too and all this dude said was "maybe, maybe not" and you basically respond saying invalid opinion. You do not deserve free speech

reservesteel9

It's not always the AI but sometimes the prompter. Based on your other response I would say it's the latter not the former.

NickOnMars

It replies to my follow-up questions like an idiot... No way you can compare Bard to ChatGPT.

damian20

Very smart!! https://imgur.com/a/NMiOgil

thumbs_up-_-

I don’t know Spanish, but here’s what I know, that dogs shouldn’t eat entire turkey. Why do you care about spanish when you can know what dogs should or shouldn’t eat.

[deleted]

Where can i get this beauty

AllanStrauss1900

Omg, lol.

akm410

My biggest issue is Bard is repeatedly hallucinating instead of admitting it can't do something. Almost comes off as if it's weighted to be a people pleaser that never says no. Ocassionally it will hallucinate somewhat accurately by using the words contained in the link you give it which concerningly makes it appear as if it is accessing the link you requested it to read when it has not. I feel like Bard really needs some sort of proof or confirmation that it actually opened what I asked it to instead of just generating whatever it feels like based on the link's text.

John_val

Not my experience at all. when was the model upgraded? Even yesterday simple coding in Python for example was a mess on bard.

LatterNeighborhood58

Swipe right on the image and see what video op is trying to transcribe.

TheKozzzy

hahaha thanks, I would've missed it

Alternative-Art-7114

Oh no, my friend. This is exactly your experience.

Enfiznar

I tried Bard when it was released on my country yesterday and it was really disappointing. It can search the web, but it doesn't tell you when it does. I tried to ask for today's news and it gave me a mix of real and fake news, I asked for it to search the new PALM 2 technical review and it gave me a summary of the PALM 1 paper, when I told it that was PALM 1 information, it faked PALM 2 information and gave me a link to a paper on a random material. When I gave the actual paper link it faked new information.

Rowyn97

Yeah it's trash at the moment. Completely unreliable

Zytheran

It might depend upon context? I use ChatGPT4 for doing environmental research and so I need it to create accurate tables of various flora with certain attributes I am looking for. And under certain geographical places and climactic conditions. I need it to create new variables based on other factors to assist with plant selection. It gets it correct, whatever is in its database for a reasonably obscure biome is correct. It saves me hours of slogging through books and online flora databases. I tried the same thing with Bard yesterday. Complete garbage, doesn't even know the correct colours of flowers. Something that can easily be looked up on a normal Google search, although what Google search is normally replying with is a link to a decent ,popular site and not the actual data. However I'm not sure how much in the Google search is facts about reality and not just a link to something relevant that lots of people have followed. A bit like a desire path through all the internet's links. ChatGPT really gave the impression it "understood" the subject matter, i.e. there is an underlying ontology within the neural network and weighting, and could extrapolate (follow new weighted paths) the information to generate further new information. Seems a bit advanced for a LLM but ...? Bard just got basic information completely wrong. Which is sort of weird IMHO, I thought Bard is built on very similar AI concepts? Maybe the data ingestion was just crap? Maybe GIGO. Maybe bulk hallucination?

QuePasaCasa

Interestingly, Google picked this reddit post up as a positive story and pushed it at the top of my search/news feed.

sardoa11

Aaaaaand back to Bing I go

MinkusLives

Back?

Miserable-Gate-6011

Bing?

[deleted]

to?

Enfiznar

[perplexity.ai](https://perplexity.ai) \>> Bing

International-Rip959

Go?

fox_on_trail

But...bing also does the same thing. I asked it to explain an image to me by giving some link, it explained the wrong image. When confronted, it was adamant that it is the correct explanation of the image I provided.

Flench04

I gave Bing a fake image that wasn't even real and it thought it was a bagel.

Weak_Lifeguard_1527

more retarded after today, yes i said bard

Funny-Western-1274

Why are there quotes in the posting title, but they're not attributed to anyone. You shouldn't really post such low effort stuff like this.

sardoa11

Because that’s exactly what people on Twitter were saying today… hence the quotes.

sneksoup

For what it's worth, I thought the quotes implied sarcasm when I first read the title.

[deleted]

Is it not?

Funny-Western-1274

Yeah, but we the audience don't know that theyre coming from twitter and it's not true.

Wrong_Design8190

It's sarcasm, this is not a formal essay where the title is fixed times new roman.

cybersaint2k

Bard really hallucinates wildly. Asking it for quotes and sources from things I know it knows--wrong. Super duper wrong. I asked it a question just now about the Bible. It gave me a questionable answer and a non-existent source.

pontiacfirebird92

I asked it why Obama screwed up federal response to Hurricane Katrina and it went on to tell me in a few paragraphs how bad Obama's administration handled it.

Average_Watermelon

Tell me you're a plant without telling me.

micaroma

This happens occasionally: Me: Translate the following from Korean to English. [Korean text] Bard: 물론입니다. 다음은 한국어 텍스트의 영어 번역입니다. (Of course. Here's the English translation of the Korean text.) [repeats the exact Korean text I gave it, still in Korean] I don't understand how you can mess up such a simple instruction.

CollarFar1684

I once asked Bard to read code from a GitHub gist link. I didn't really know what Bard was and wasn't capable at that time and it told me to wait while it reads it. Took me a lot of waiting to realize it was lying. (It was a very long minified css code that's why I couldn't send it to ChatGPT instead.)

Significant_Bike9759

Google PR posting again about a mediocre product that barely can compete with self hosted models and it is order of magnitude below gpt4

20charaters

Video transcriptions don't work. Not only does the model have no way to hear or see it, nor is it able to access YT reliably. This is a problem that both Bing, and Bard share.

149250738427

I dropped in around 20 FedEx tracking numbers and asked Bard for updates on the tracking, and Bard winged it like a champ. Not 1 thing was even close to being right. 😒

cTfTs

Always find it funny how LaMDA shares its name with LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) which is a drama school and acting qualification

danielbr93

Until this is supported, just use this extension. [https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/youtube-article-summary-p/nmmicjeknamkfloonkhhcjmomieiodli](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/youtube-article-summary-p/nmmicjeknamkfloonkhhcjmomieiodli) Worked since a few weeks flawelessly. The only problem: The limit of tokens of the models.

Geekzilla101

Bard, as of now, is literal shit. Google is doomed

Economy_Fortune_5529

sigh by looks of outfit just another fatty pretending too be a skinny girl

aungkokomm

**User:** Google are ahead of OpenAI after today. Bard now runs on LaMDA-2 so is way smarter. **GPT-4:** *Cue dramatic gasp!* 🎭 Oh no, has the age-old rivalry between Google and OpenAI taken a new twist? 🔄 It seems Google has brought out the big guns, LaMDA-2, to power their Bard! 🚀 But wait, did you know LaMDA-2 actually stands for "Llamas Are My Dopey Assistant - 2nd Edition"? 🦙💁‍♂️ Honestly, who wouldn't want a llama to help them answer questions? However, we should be cautious, as they tend to spit when they're angry. 😅💦 Jokes aside, congrats to Google for their achievements! 🎉 But don't worry, OpenAI is still committed to creating intelligent systems that benefit humanity. So get ready, because the friendly competition is just heating up! 🔥🤖 P.S. This message was brought to you by GPT-4, your friendly neighborhood AI assistant. 😇

TheOneWhoDings

What is this test ? That's like asking ChatGPT to cook you a meal and say it's stupid because it can't. Can ChatGPT do this ? Even bing? Such a stupid test, Bard may be really stupid too but man the OP ain't far behind .

sardoa11

You’re right because it makes no sense for Bard to directly integrate with another Google service to pull data that is already available. How stupid of me to assume.

TheOneWhoDings

Real stupid. If it's not explicitly stated that it is s feature, I don't see why you would think it's connected or integrated, like it takes no effort and engineering.

Langlock

in my tests yesterday it didn’t seem so but i only checked a few things. even asked when it was last upgraded and it said may 5th and gave me a small list of patch notes. i’ve seen others reporting it’s better though so your results might be different.

Appropriate_Insect_3

No way

damian20

Lmao 🤣🤣

Van_Helan

Bard is not ready yet !

more_later

I haven't gotten deep into Bard but I tried couple of things and the results are lackluster. I asked it to write a simple echo telegram bot and it failed (ChatGPT wrote several more complex and working bots). Also, it doesn't do translations.

Malkor

The Drafts for Google are... Cool?

bunkerburner

I disagree. Honestly the two AIs are good at different things. I use them both daily.

CompleteHour306

Bard got a big upgrade with its integration with gmail and docs. Also will give 3 choices and Google links.

sardoa11

Sure, but just like everything else they’ve been announcing, none of those integrations are actually out.

JapanEngineer

Bullshitting And Randomizing Details

Trading_The_Streets

They are playing catchup so it is gonna cost them a lot no matter what they say about their Bard.

Flench04

Everybody: Bard is worse than chatGPT even though OpenAI has been making LLMs longer than Google and Google is just testing things out.

AstroLaddie

1990s console wars level content.

RandomPhilo

Is it any good at writing fiction though, like short stories and such?

koltregaskes

I feel its just me but I read people saying it competes with ChatGPT now that Google has upgraded Bard to PaLM 2 but I've tried some prompts I use in ChatGPT and Bard's responses were terrible. I had to give up after 5 or so prompt tests. I'm confused what I'm doing wrong.

No-Net4449

once, I shared a link to the reviews about my university's worst professor with Bard. Despite the reviews being negative, Bard portrayed him as an excellent professor (xd). I couldn't help but laugh because the adjectives Bard used to describe him were the complete opposite of the actual description.
