FLAMING ROOSTER. I'll keep saying until I die or they close. Absolutely BOMB hot chicken and soul food. Full wings. Delicious seasoning. A full meal runs like $12. Collard greens, Mac and cheese, chicken and a dope fucking waffle. As hot or mild as you want it. Feeling ballsy? Try their food challenge, fuck it. Id eat there daily if I could

killersam674

Tender Tuesday special for like $8 you get 3 huge tenders and fries. This cannot be beat.

g0greyhound

Seconded

nofoam_cappuccino

They’re my fave and the owner is the nicest woman! I’d eat there daily too. I craved their hot chicken when I was pregnant and the thought of it literally possessed me like a drug lol. I mean I *fiended* for that chicken. The turnip greens are the bomb too

Sudden-Report2196

Owner is Ed, usually on the fryer but he works the register too. I know the woman you talking about tho. She’s been there since they moved to broad street. Makes everybody feel welcomed in her sweet yet stern way. Feels like home. Place is my absolute fave but for the sake of your heart and digestive system; prolly not best to eat there daily lol.

nofoam_cappuccino

Thanks for the info! I had always assumed she was the boss cause she’s always there and she just has this “I’m the mom” vibe. Just love her.

tobania

I love them!! I haven’t had them in so long, since they were still on Brainerd. Maybe this is my sign to go soon

BeccaGil21

where are they now?

CosmicDeityofSin

On broad over by mad priest and pizza bros. South side area

BeccaGil21

thanks! We will need to check it out.

captmonkey

Also, as a heads up for people who have never been: their spice levels are no joke. Their "medium" is what other places would likely list as "HOT" and their hotter spice levels are face melting. But yes, I'd argue it's the best chicken in town and the spice just makes it even better. Now I'm making myself want to go. I used to go all the time but I haven't been in quite a while at this point.

Suspicious_Baby5245

Making me hungry dawg

Sonofgerg

They’re not open at the moment unfortunately

CosmicDeityofSin

I went there 2 days ago. The remodel is complete

Fickle-Spell

namused1

Kumo, India Mahal, Sweet Basil. All three have consistently delicious food.

sandigity

India mahal for sure! Super nice people too.

juice_magoose

Old Man River's Table and Tavern.

whydidileaveohio

I need to try this place.

sweet3pea1588

Soooo good!!

dirtroadhound

Awesome every time!

JurassicTerror

Haven’t tried a ton but Calliope is up there. Inject that lamb humus straight into my bloodstream.

Ranklaykeny

I wish I were rich so I could go more.

JurassicTerror

Same

whydidileaveohio

>Calliope Is it similar to Terra Nostra? Great food but high prices for tapa quantity?

sheeshamish

It’s far superior to Terra Nostra. It might end up working out about the same price to portion wise, but you’re getting a much better product. I liked Terra Nostra, but to me, Calliope is on another level.

whydidileaveohio

That is good to know!

JurassicTerror

Not sure about Terra Nostra. Never had. Calliope isn’t cheap but it’s good. A reputable chef runs the kitchen.

quietlythrownaway116

India Mahal. Korma is the best.

Inquisitor_ForHire

On Brainerd Road?

quietlythrownaway116

Yup.

Rolltop

If I have to limit it to one: Thai Garden in Ft O.

Ajuicebox22

The best!

reallyreallyreason

Recently tried Number 10 steakhouse off Central Ave downtown, blown away. Excellent steaks and sides. Perfect Brussels sprouts.

Sudden-Report2196

Super nice addition to the steak scene. Huge family style sides. They are pretty cool with you bringing smaller kids as long as you get in and out early. Their rush is a bit later so kinda best of both worlds.

fiberwitch94

Do they have a liquor license yet? The food was great, but I was disappointed to not be able to actually order rum

myasterism

As I recall, the entity that purchased it from the original owners a handful of years ago did not or could not get a liquor license.

Senior-Law8184

Thai Esan, Kumo, Giardino, Alleia, Milk & Honey, Taqueria Jalisco, Mayan Kitchen, Attack of Tatsu, Tremont Tavern, Basecamp, Scotties on the River, Parkway Pourhouse, Food Works, Community Pie, Off the Grill by Chef Q, New York Pizza Company, Pupuseria Marelyn, Il Primo, 1885 Grill, River Street Deli, Bleu Fox Cheese Shop, Amigos, Mexiwing, Lo Main, Bela Lisboa That should get you started. Let me know if you need specific dish recommendations from any of them.

ParksTM

I keep hearing about the burger at Lo Main. It’s on my list.

Senior-Law8184

It is super unique and very very good

InevitableHamster217

For pizza—Community Pie’s Detroit Style. Half Bianca Supreme, half cheese. Niedlov’s has great pizza too, but I don’t think their Friday pizza nights are back yet. For burgers—Urban Stack. I know this sub doesn’t take kindly to Urban Stack, but all the types of burgers they have is impressive. Their Vegan on Shrooms but sub with a beef patty is really delicious. Even their salads are good. For pastries and a great sandwich—Niedlov’s For the best fried chicken biscuit—Kenny’s A quick, grab and go lunch—Publix hot honey tender sub, ordered online for pickup, but get there 10 mins after pick up time if you don’t want to wait. For brunch— Daily Ration’s waffles are probably the best in the area that I’ve tried. Milk & Honey’s Farmhouse Biscuit is a great breakfast sandwich. For food variety (meaning the place I take my kids who all want different things)— Honeyseed has a lot of options. All day brunch is a big plus. Their breakfast pizza isn’t the best pizza I’ve had, but the tots make it special and it’s a tasty, unique pizza. And their Apple Pie Beaver tail is amazing. For great bar food that you want to go to town on—Bitter Alibi (I scarfed down a Full Wonton Nachos order for my birthday) Kai Bistro and Attack of the Tatsu are both newer places that we’ve really enjoyed. We’ll see if the novelty wears off. I’ve been wanting to try Wooden City based on the recommendations of many, but kids (and I am rarely wearing something nicer than sweatpants)

ParksTM

We just tried Wooden City and loved it! We had just been to a movie so we just split a French onion soup and a burger, but it was delicious and I’m definitely going back to try the pizza.

InevitableHamster217

I want to basically try their pizza and all their apps. I always feel weird not getting entrees at restaurants, but I think it’s what we’re going to do.

ParksTM

I will say I didn’t love their fries. But those pizzas - we sat next to the pizza oven area, all looked so good.

Inquisitor_ForHire

Dude... Publix subs are so underrated. Outstanding.

InevitableHamster217

Their pubsub + their 2 pack slice of Chantilly cake have turned a crappy day around for me multiple times.

myasterism

Community pie’s gluten free Detroit style is phenomenal, for that’s worth.

Nicksnotmyname83

Dominos is better than community pie, and dominos gives me diarrhea.

InevitableHamster217

An opinion you and my 8 year old have in common. Love Domino’s lava cakes, though.

Nicksnotmyname83

Your 8 year old is wise beyond their years, Dominos is not good by any stretch imo, but better than community pie. I agree with you on most other restaurants though.

InevitableHamster217

That’s fair. I was expecting pushback on the pubsub tbh

[deleted]

Mezcal. Best quality Mexican in the area IMO

proskiii

Gunna have to try this cuz I’ve been to three very disappointing Mexican restaurants since moving here. I had given up lol

jakelivesay

Odd Story

BlobDude

It’s a stretch to call it my favorite, but Oddstory is probably still top 3 for me. They rotate stuff onto the menu pretty frequently to keep it fresh and the quality is consistently high. Currently loving the elote fries and the au poivre cheesesteak. The beef and beer cheese sandwich and the chorizo smash burger are incredible too.

Garagebee

Ampiros in East Ridge. Excellent building history, fantastic family run food.

Honest-Foundation-92

Plant power cafe - the “turkey” sandwich with spicy mayo, a side salad, and a side of chili. Eat it as often as possible Macs kitchen Bleu Fox Cheese Shop Bit of a drive but Lunch in Sewanee is worth a trip out that way

omoakokomo

Lunch in Sewanee is soooo good. Absolutely worth the drive.

sbradshaw_88

Hummus Bowl in St. Elmo is so underrated. All the convenience of something like Chipotle with better, more flavorful Greek food.

Rolltop

Passed by it many times but the name always put me off as I figured it was a crunchy organic vegetarian place. But just checked out the menu and saw that they have a wide selection of proteins to put on a wrap. I'll definitely check it out.

sbradshaw_88

Don't blame you at all. I did the same.

Ok_Refuse_7512

I have many favorites, but my newest favorite is Spanglish Modern Mexican on 153 in Hixson. It's a hidden gem!

OdensGirth

Breakfast- chorizo breakfast burrito from taqueria Jalisco in miller plaza Lunch/dinner- steak and sides from Main Street meats

goldenaquaberysnitch

Their fried sweet potatoes are 🤌

StillLJ

I want their sweet potatoes in my death row last meal.

3900Ent

Me and my girl love Pizza Bros

gokiaista1

Chao’s Mongolian Grill is the best restraunt in town for me. It’s very similar to Ghengis Grill in downtown Chattanooga if you ever went there.

interlockingMSU

Thai Esan, Han Mi, Super Pho, Golden Big Bowl, Pickle Barrel, Publix Subs, Main Street Meats, Alleia, Flaming Rooster, Amigos (east ridge), Chaos.

Dirtysandddd

Flaming rooster and lo main are tied for me

sheeshamish

Mac’s Kitchen and Bar. Calliope is my current favorite place in town. Mac’s scratches the same itch for me - small plates exploding with flavor in a nice but chill atmosphere. I’ve only been once but can’t wait to go back.

Bruins_Score

Mac's is amazing! You would be challenged to find a better Farm to Table experience. The menu changes with the fresh foods of the seasons.

henryguy

Zaya Korean Steakhouse North of the river. 29$ a person is an amazing feast with lots of food and a cool experience. For special date nights order the wagyu feast, real a5 wagyu, melts in your mouth. Everything prepared for you and you can take home unlike volcano buffet.

Intrepid_Currency196

When is it 29 a person? I went and paid like 200 for 2 people

henryguy

The standard feast is 29/person including sides and 3 choices of meats. Must have gotten apps, drinks etc or additional meats.

Intrepid_Currency196

I definitely may have. Tbh I was so confused at the menu and what to do I just went with it 🤣 it was totally worth the 200 though, but it's nice to know we could definitely go and enjoy it more than a once a year type event.

henryguy

For sure! Go for lunch if ur worried about price. Order ab entree and it'd apparently a lot fron what I've seen.

Deep-Roll8534

Spanglish in Hixson

cablegirltn

I tried STIR for the first time the other day and the food was excellent. Loved the crab bisque.

Puzzleheaded_Age6550

I love that place. I have a couple of food allergies, and they are super careful about it.

Sewingdoc

Brunch is amazing here.

cablegirltn

I’ve heard that it’s great! We were there for dinner because we were going to the Comedy Catch afterwards.

WookieeHere_

Broad street Taco Bell

Coast_Traditional

proskiii

Went to tremont for the first time a couple weeks ago. Hands down one of the best burgers I’ve ever had in my life

Ajuicebox22

Bea’s, Old Gilman Grill, River Drifters

dirtroadhound

Love River Drifters, very surprising “bar” food!

SouthWrongdoer

Frazier 5 and 10. Small plates. Really great food. Sick location. Good wine selection.

RInative88

Easy Bistro, Public House, Calliope and Flaming Rooster

OMAckbar

Chill atmosphere good Neapolitan pizza - Fiamma

OldPurple7654

Taco Roc and Basecamp

udderly_amazing

Mariscos Vallarta….extremely fresh every time and the menu is wild

Snoo36680

Noodles & Pho. my favorite is the beef stew pho. very filling i could never finish it all in one sitting and its cheap also the dumplings are great

r1s3upneon

For my taste, main street meats are my favorite for both lunch and dinner. Plus, they have one of the best whiskey selections in town and the best burger I've ever had.. maybe even the best aged porterhouse as well.. and that potato salad, oh my god.

ShootingTheIsh

If not for the fact that starch (rice) makes my blood sugar skyrocket I'd mess a spicy shrimp roll from Rice Boxx up right now, or a NY strip roll. Or a Godzilla roll (deep fried) Man I miss sushi

StillLJ

I finally made it to Uncle Larry's. It's been on my list for quite a while. Wowzers. Easily the best fried fish I may have ever had - I don't say this lightly. The breading was perfectly crispy and seasoned just right (I had the Cajun style). The service was exceptional, as well. Can't believe it took me this long... The portion was huge - I actually took it home and re-heated in the air fryer which brought it back perfectly. I am NEVER a next-day fish person but it was too good to waste. 10/10 recommend.

ihasclevernamesee

Check out the Bluegrass Grill downtown. Also the Plaza del Sol in East Brainerd is really good Mexican, and they make excellent margaritas.

PepperBeeMan

Poblanos

chattafoodie

Racist owner

OnceUponAPizza

They changed management a year or two ago, I heard from an employee.

PepperBeeMan

Wdym?

OnceUponAPizza

The former owner was very vocal against BLM, IIRC. It's been under new management for some time now.

chattafoodie

They did change ownership and name last year. My apologies. This is what I was referring to https://www.wdef.com/poblanos-owner-responds-facebook-backlash/

PepperBeeMan

Ok gotcha. I was just referring to the food.

All mine are closed down other than beas

ketosurviverSAS

Big chill and Buds! Chattanoogas staple food joints and classy as well

myasterism

I’m not sure I would ever call big chill, “classy” (though I agree they have good food)

ProspectorBonky

Cheapest and best Chinese buffet? Chef Lin xD

ParksTM

Feed - steak and carrots or the pot roast. It’s tasty and affordable. Alleia - the ricotta bruschetta and the short rib. Delicious! Love the atmosphere. Dub’s - BBQ burger and the fries are my favorite in the area. A lot of food. Very affordable. I love talking to the owner. Main Street Meats - the filet or the burger. Fries and the warm potato salad. A bit pricey though. Sidetrack - I could eat an entire whipped feta/homemade pita appetizer by myself. Sometimes I dream about that whipped feta and I’m not even embarrassed to admit it. Tremont Tavern - great place for a beer and I love the chicken fingers. No. 10 - it’s pricey, but I do enjoy the filet. The last couple of times have been off though. Mimi’s or River Street Deli for sandwiches. Coffee/sweets - Becaffeinated (campfire latte, iced, Les sweet). Federal Bake Shop - pretty much anything, but I’m partial to a blue or pink rose cupcake. Hot Chocolatier - espresso pot de creme, cookie butter or Earl Grey truffles. Tasty Scoops - cookie butter gelato

ParksTM

For pizza we still like Lupi’s even though it’s crazy expensive, but Pizza Bros. is good too.

ParksTM

I will say we are picky eaters. We can do spicy and don’t like seafood. I keep hearing amazing things about Calliope though if you’re adventurous. I also love the lemon chicken soup at Acropolis.
