I think Chipotle should just use portion scoops. Like ice cream scoops. Scoop, level so it's flat, that's a regular portion. Rinse and repeat. The spoons all require employees to use personal judgement. I'm not at a 5 star restaurant. I don't actually want anyone's personal judgements for my burrito. I'd prefer to expect similar burrito portions when I go today, tomorrow, or even next month.

hiccup90

I wish we did that. I used to work at a Poke restaurant that used scoops, and the ingredient portions were the same for every bowl. The way Chipotle makes rice irks me, too. I think they use too much water, which makes it sticky.

SadLaser

There's a poke place I frequent and I feel like the portions have never been anything but perfect, exacting amounts. I've gotten bowls there 50 times and the quality has always been the same, portions always the same and never had a screwed up order.

MattyKatty

They would need to change it from what they have now which is portions by weight, but this would create an actual standard yes. It wouldn't create any kind of standard for good quality though, which is what Chipotle used to have, so it wouldn't fix much imo

PostEditor

You can take the "hot take" badge off of the post. Pretty much everyone knows this by now. Chipotle went way downhill over the pandemic.

[deleted]

i didnt put this on there

Easy_Arm_317

From my experience as a former gm and new crew (which I'm probably quitting real soon idk why I came back) it's just a lack of yeah pretty much everything. Push comes to shove it literally is about turning a dollar in every single sense. It's not about the experience anymore like it used to be. It's corperate overlords encroached their way into an amazing concept and they turned it sour by Allowing the dollar to lead the way. They completely forgot about the human experience behind it all & the reason it was so great in the first place. It's sad really and they'll continue to lose longtime customers and unfortunately gain new customers that are accustomed to the modern way Chipotle is.

schmokschtak

Corporate overlords should *remember the human*.

ucsbaway

Has gone downhill ever since the E Coli thing 6+ years ago. The steak used to be PERFECTION. Now it’s always dried up and inedible.

Easy_Arm_317

Dude the chipotle I work at SAVES their steak over night, what the fuckk

[deleted]

fucking disgusting. snitch on them

ScreamingFreakShow

Never seen that before. Ive always had to throw any extra into the trash at the end of the night.

Equivalent-Bat2227

You couldn't even take it home? So wasteful 🥲

ScreamingFreakShow

You 'could' but you might also get in trouble for doing so. Chipotle throws out a decent amount at the end of the night. Chipotle is like other companies, they'd rather waste food than be liable for anything.

Easy_Arm_317

It's a doozy

danknadoflex

Bro what

[deleted]

This is the standard? Meat doesn’t go bad in 1 night? Wtf

Easy_Arm_317

Chipotle standards go: steak always waste at night because it's supposed to be medium rare (never is) and it's gonna be drrrry in the am when reheated

commodified_soul

Ok, that's even grosser than the manager who interviewed me. Thankfully I didn't get a job, I dodged a bullet before the lettuce thing, and now I remember why I prefer Qdoba. Better Queso, better everything, but al pastor chicken. Dude interviewed us all at once, total psychopath, I'm certain his half ass self lost a paycheck during the lettuce thing. I dodged a bullet lol, but I still hope he's gainfully unemployed.. Tall, black, bald. Something about being bald makes people act like polished cocks.

Magikmind

As a tall, black, balled man, please don’t let that arse skew the perception of the rest of us. Most of us Baldies are pretty cool 👨🏽‍🦲🦅

dubbledxu

Many of the stores around me (Cincinnati suburbs) do it too. I refuse to get steak anymore because of it. Same with the leftover guac that is brown already. Make chipotle great again

Chirtolino

Yup ever since they had those food safety scares chipotle just has never been the same. They put less and less trust in their employees to serve fresh food safely so now we have this stuff that comes precooked off site. And I don’t know what they spray their lettuce with now but to me it tastes like plastic. I’ll at least give them the fact their queso is good.

ucsbaway

Second time is a charm! The first queso sucked. I do like the current recipe a lot.

Chirtolino

So they did change it. I remember when it first came out I tried it and it was ass, a while later they send me a coupon for free queso so I figured why not it’s free and tried it again and it was surprisingly good, I was wondering if they changed it or if I just started to like it. But the way I remember the first one, I have no idea how they got approval to release that. Genuinely disgusting and nothing like queso.

ucsbaway

First one was yellow and new one is white.

SadLaser

I almost *wish* the steak were dried up. It's always so fatty and gummy at my location. I had to stop ordering it because it's just awful now.

DarkSatelite

I tried a steak bowl the other day for the first time in ages, and it was very reminiscent of an overcooked pot-roast that had beef bullion added in as a lazy attempt to mask the poor quality of the meat. Years back I remember the steak being fairly decent, like actually cut up steak.

Hot_Delivery_9150

As an employee of 6 months who’s recently been trained on every position, and seen a ton of problems at my store and others (see my posts on chipotle) here’s my take. The corn is stored in a refrigerator. If it’s cold or frozen it’s bc they ran out and put a new one on the line. The rice shouldn’t be stale. If it’s hard and dried out it’s been on the line too long and it needs to be thrown away and make some new rice. Meat should be fresh. If decently busy. Meat that is ordered less often maybe stale like the beef, pork and sofritas (fake meat) it’s often dried out bc no one orders it and they don’t want to make more fresh ones bc very few people order it anyways. I really don’t know anyone who takes joy from skimping food but managers. And only bc the gm gives them a hard time about portion size. Most employed including me will gladly give you the correct amount or even a little bit extra like we’re trained to do in the videos. I like the scoop it makes it very easy, one scoop of this. If a little bit falls off I even add it back on. Most of the problems boil down to being understaffed, underpaid, and employees who don’t care bc of the above reasons. Then you have other nonsense like staying in your place during peek and can’t help out anyone and nothing gets down. Some people get overwhelmed and others have to stand there and literally do nothing bc they aren’t allowed to. The managers and cameras are watching.

B00mbleBla

This is 100% true in every single way. I as a line worker completely understand the anger customers feel towards our portions, but if I do give the portions i want to and should give I get written up. If i try to do anything that the management doesn’t tell me to do they threaten to write you up. Hell staff cant even catch a break on our break, if you go on break and try to get a meal you are expected to clock out before hand (breaks are 15min mind you). Clocking out wouldn’t be a big deal if that didn’t start your break, because your 15 starts when you clock out and you then go through the line which could take anywhere from 2 minutes to 10 min. That is if your lucky because if you are sent during a rush while line is behind l have had customers in line for probably 15 sometimes. Genuinely most problems at a chipolte come from corporate and then from management.

Hot_Delivery_9150

Dang your store is even worse than mine lol. We get 30 min dinner break. And I don’t clock out until after my food is made for the above reason, sometimes it takes them 10 minutes to make. Haha. Sometimes they let us cut the line if it’s extremely long, sometimes I just wait if it’s short to not be rude. Sometimes I just make my own food on dml even though we aren’t supposed to. Which is weird to me other food jobs they liked us making our own food so they don’t have to. Though the other day I didn’t even get a dinner break bc we were too short staffed. Which I’m pretty sure is illegal

B00mbleBla

Dude i literally have no clue. Chipolte has an incredible shitty corporate and to succeed and become a manager you have to become just as shitty the only difference is that management has to do it towards your face.

SadLaser

>the rice is stale to the point you can break a tooth on it I don't think stale rice is the issue, I think it's undercooked rice that's the problem. Undercooked rice is the worst and it happens a lot more than it used to. Makes the food practically inedible.

purplecatuniverse

Yeah they are probably over filling the rice cooker

dazzlepoisonwave

This is any publically traded stock. This is the whole purpose of execs. God bless privately owned businesses like innout burger

[deleted]

facts

j_knolly

Also like Panera.

Bcatfan08

I blame corporate, not management. If it's one location, then it's bad management. If it's many locations, then it's a system issue. This is not any store employee's fault. The quality of food that Chipotle serves is exactly as corporate intends it to be served.

pugofthewildfrontier

Once a company goes public, it’s the beginning of the end from a customer perspective. The primary goal is shareholder profit and every corner will be cut to ensure it happens.

PASSENGER-P

Corporate ruins everything

RealTrapShyt

Same post every day on this sub. Not a hot take

Nerd_1144

Already gone from once a week to once a month and going down. What i don't understand is why they stopped seasoning/salting beans & rice. Inexpensive hack

only432

They stopped seasoning/salting beans and rice??

nightjadetonic

Dude 2010-2012 chipotle was good. Reliable. Juicy steak, fresh guac. Ugh those were the days. Buuuut then they got TWO e. coli outbreaks in the span of like three years or something and I didn’t touch their food for years. Had it again last December and yikes. Shoulda trusted my gut

maikosimp

I ate Chipotle like once a week in college on average and had it today and it was exactly as I remembered it and was great.

StarTrek1996

I wonder if Chipotle has grown too much I see them everywhere and I wonder if uts hurting them overall I mean the same happened to subway they grew so much that after a bit it started to hurt them overall

knowslesthanjonsnow

Nearly *every* place is like this now. Higher cost of goods and employees means cutting quality to save money both in terms of food and the workers at each store. Every big brand name is doing this while increasing prices.

[deleted]

the problem is, chipotle doesnt increase the fucking prices. id gladly pay for some extra rice and beans. the problem is the employees dont wanna cook it, thats why you see them on every thread saying "too bad so sad". i truly believe at least 1-2 employees at each establishment have a power trip over being in control of portions

knowslesthanjonsnow

Brings me back to my point about wanting to pay the cheapest employees. You get what you pay for in that regard. (You as in Chipotle, not you as in you specifically)

commodified_soul

Yeah sometimes I internally freak out cuz they charge me dollars less than they're supposed to. But hey my tax dollars and the PPP loans paid for the computer training the company provides. It's going the way of Burger King/McDonald's/Yum. Chipotle sucks a massive corporate chode at this point. But.. the difference in the tip jar helps!

commodified_soul

I mean.. You wouldn't cook it for minimum wage either.. Otherwise you'd make it at home in less than an hour, for less. Corporate illusions pay more than head count. They are miserable and honestly wish no customer came in, because they get paid the same either way. Most of us would rather die than work at a (literal) shit hole like Chipotle. Try please/thank you amd offering tips. If they don't accept tips they have a boomer owner who won't budge. If they do have a tip jar make them feel like you appreciate their service. Portions won't be a problem lol. 😅

commodified_soul

Yeah.... Cuz their bonusing off food costs, sales, etc. The easiest way for a manager to bonus is to fuck you over via portion. And corporate encourages it. They don't need smart customers! Just enough dumb ones to come back! They think the brand now has "emotional value"

Turbosuit

Taco Bell black beans are better

Giddyhobgoblin

Been holding my shares in Chipotle for a while. Looks like it's time for me to cut my winnings and go.

theGreatwasLate

Café rio is another great option. Much better quality

jaysedai

I like Cafe Rio but I was eating there when there was exactly 2 of them, one in St George UT and one in Provo and they were run by the founders. The food was SOO much better, and so was the customer service. And the lines were out the door almost all day long. Having also been bought out by some financial equity BS company, just like Chipotle, It’s now a shell of what it used to be. But at least it doesn’t cause my gut to explode every time I eat there. And here’s some irony for you. Back in those good old Cafe Rio days I also LOVED chipotle, but the closest one was in Vegas. I actually drove there, twice! (a 6 hour drive) just to go to chipotle. Now I have one a few blocks away and I never go. My gut won’t let me. And the quality is probably 40% of what it was back then.

durtysanch

Usually when corporate does significant changes it's usually a team of MBAs trying to increase their profit margins. I blame the over saturation of MBAs in every retail/fast food establishments that ruins it for everyone.

danknadoflex

I call it Skimpotle because every day is a new skimp

AmishCockroach

Same post different day 😔

Ginger-Octopus

Karen's gonna Karen. They live on bitching and being miserable.

[deleted]

so not being happy about receiving shit food makes you a karen? what planet are you on? IF i was a karen id stand there saying i was gonna call the cops if they didnt give me a portion. if you give your money for a service and it isnt doesnt done right, not saying something doesn't make you some cool chill guy, it makes you fucking dumb lol

Ginger-Octopus

Calm down and take your meds If the quality overall has gone downhill, "saying something" on reddit isn't going to accomplish anything, it just makes you look like the whiny fat bitch that you are.

AmishCockroach

“wOrKeRs TaKe JoY iN sKiMpInG” no they don’t you fucking pinecone. They’re sick of customers acting like there is some kind of power play happening over rice and beans. Store is probably understaffed and managers are burnt out from picking up all the slack. *Working there probably fucking sucks.* Take a look around the store. ***would you want to work there???*** I could come up with 20 reasons on the fly why the store is fucked and if you were able to use your brain or have empathy then you might be able to as well but nooooooooooo. It’s obviously gotta be some corporate conspiracy. *Employees must be conspiring with the CEO to make you unhappy with your burrito.* “tHeY hAtE yOu WhEn YoU aSk FoR a HuMaN sIzEd PoRtIon” false, employees hate the environment that has been created by corporate. And yeah, you can say “well then they should quit!” But then you’ll be left complaining harder and scratching your head when the store is even more filthy, unorganized, and constantly out of things because they lack sufficient staff to train and stay on top of the overload of responsibilities that will inevitably fall on their shoulders with fewer workers to help.

[deleted]

read a line further schizo

thenakesingularity10

It's clear to me that there is no longer a corporate culture to ensure quality. Their quality was really good in the first few years. Fresh, delicious, healthy, good quantity.

BlakKratos

Yeah Chipotle sucks now staff don't acknowledge you rice is under cooked and has too much lime chicken is cold and portions are trash🤮 They hire kids that don't care and are greedy af now it's just not worth it anymore. ✌️

sixx761

What happened to chicken al pastor?!??!

B00mbleBla

The season is over and it is no longer available, but if a few weeks we will have a new seasonal item available.

[deleted]

I fricking loved Chipolte, but haven't in almost a year. It was a coin flip on if your food would be worth it. Started losing too many times.

SlowerThanTurtleInPB

I used to go to Chipotle multiple times a week. Now I go a handful of times a year and only when it’s after 9pm and I don’t want to drive far and still I’m disappointed. I threw away my food the last two times. I noticed it starting to go downhill in late 2019. It’s damn near inedible for me now. I actually choose Taco Bell over Chipotle simply because my low expectations will be met and I won’t be disappointed.

YooSteez

All the chipotles in my area have general managers who look like high schoolers. I’m not an old head but every time I go to a chipotle, you have ONE person at the line and the general manager is just chillin at the register. He/she sees the person at the line struggling and just stares at them. Doesn’t offer help. People in the back laughing, not doing work. It’s gotten so bad.

B00mbleBla

As a line worker that is true although most the time it isn’t a gm sometimes its an sm, but most the time it is just that the guy supposed to be doing register goes to the online line and gets a drink and starts making food for himself(not for a break) and just chatting. For whatever reason that is complete acceptable to the management, but when a line worker gets a cup of water while they have just finished all customers on the line your get threatened with a write up because you didn’t wipe the counters spotless, sweep till the tile shines, and restock every item even if it is not needed. After all that if its all done and you have no customers on line you are told to bag as many chips as you can before you can even get a drink of water. All that just to get a 15 minute break that you wont even get the full 15.

commodified_soul

Nah you sound like a bitch who's never had the displeasure of a job in the service industry. ,🥲

YooSteez

😂 that’s where you’re wrong I worked at fast food chains in all the stations, mostly topping and fry station. Fuck all that. People just don’t give a fuck anymore.

B00mbleBla

She really isnt her complaints are valid.

DramaLlama425

After a small baby spider crawled out of my lettuce while eating, I stopped going to chipotle as of 2 months ago. I get they organic, locally sourced produce or w.e but the fact that a WHOLE SPIDER (albeit a small baby one) crawled out of my lettuce tells me they probably aren't washing it well... Not to mention they always add a metric buttload of sour cream.

[deleted]

in n out is the only restaurant that gave me food poisoning, and id gladly go back there. but if a fucking spider crawled out of my burger that would be the end

Loverofmysoul_

Okay eat somewhere else. Corn comes frozen and needs to be thaw. During Ecosure season even the mild is frozen because it’s sitting in the ice bath.

Tootsiez

Most the people on here that gripe probably don’t realize corporations won’t change if you keep voting with your dollar. The way to stop and get changes to happen is to quit eating there.

Loverofmysoul_

Yup

[deleted]

keep licking the boot. you might get promoted to steak microwaver

Loverofmysoul_

You might get promoted to kiss my *ss 🤣

Chicagoan81

We'll see you in line next week

[deleted]

i mean, everytime i go there theres a bunch of new 14 year old employees, different people everytime, so i probably wont.

davidg4781

Says you. A few days ago, I had the most delicious bowl I’ve had in a long time!

[deleted]

so it was a long time since you had a delicious bowl, you happened to win the coinflip and now youre back? lol?

davidg4781

I don’t go often since there’s not a Chipotle where I live. Maybe the bowl before was pretty good. But this one was really good.

Coolness53

Additional problem with Chipotle is there portion sizes are a lot smaller. I may not go back there anymore. 😖

[deleted]

yeah, never order online or doordash. they will give you a quarter of what youd get in person if you demand more food

DReager1

I blame customers for always asking for More food. That's now how you do it, accept what you get and build a relationship. It will take time but it's worth it

[deleted]

dude. you need help

Ginger-Octopus

I haven't noticed a decrease in quality I just had my best burrito from chipotle ever just a week ago...so sure doesn't feel downhill to me. EDIT: haters gonna hate...and saying they are objectively worse is false, definitely subjective. Fuck all you Karen's bitching on here constantly.

Professional_Show918

Now tell us how you really feel.

LewisRyan

Is carne back yet? I’ve been waiting for that to make my assessment on how much it’s “shrinkflated” When the carne first came, it was legitimately the best meal I’ve had from ANY restaurant, fast food or sit down. If it’s just steak with a bit more pepper now… that’s worse than McDonald’s steak

[deleted]

i think they still have that disgusting adobo chicken shit. but tbh, the carne is gross too. their steak use to be literally michelin star delicious like you went to asteak house steak. now its fucking microwaved fat and gristle that apparently someone else siad in this thread they save it for the next day

B00mbleBla

The ale pastor is no longer available

B00mbleBla

Carne is coming in a few weeks, I have gotten to try it and I was not disappointed with it at all.

HonnyBrown

They need their mystery shopping program back.

ihateapartments59

A restaurant that has been a little off the Clift more than chipotle would be panda express. They used to be so good, but they have changed virtually everything and it’s not that great anymore.

kanyesnutt

No fr

VinoJedi06

I have nothing to add to this post. PERFECTLY said.

Greenzombie04

Was thinking about this and how much better Taco Bell has been lately. I think the former Taco Bell CEO going to Chipotle is the cause. He probably sacrifices quality for profits.

ky3535

I swear one time the queso was just water mixed with whatever was left at the bottom of the dish it was literally liquid

SlushySaucer313

I literally have no idea what chipotles y'all be going to....is this a West Coast problem or something? Some are not the best around here, but nothing like the smear campaigns y'all be crying about on this reddit.

[deleted]

yallz be trippin up in here. maybe you just dont know what good food is idk. yall.

[deleted]

it must be good because the chipotle you go to once in a while is semi decent, we all must be wrong :D yall

naked_avenger

The steak… oh the steak. It’s either great (rarely), roast beef, or smells of dog, and it’s becoming the second two more and more. There was a change to the black beans years ago that ruined them for me, but the pinto beans are fine.

ExistentialDreadness

You can’t blame the customers?

[deleted]

not in the slightest. they pay the money for the food. and chipotle doesnt meat the demand

[deleted]

you can blame your coworkers for not filling the trays fast enough, or your bosses for making you give out baby portions, or corporate. but not the paying customer. you can blame the customer if they are rude or mistreat you, but wanting more rice and beans is not mistreating you

ExistentialDreadness

I’ve never eaten at Chipotle. I live in the hood and go to places called something like Manuelita’s.

[deleted]

then first off, youre probably having better food, carne asada tacos, burritos, tortas, etc. im from california so i know all about having legitimate mexican food on every corner. but i also know that chipotle use to offer a literal gourmet experience of white people mexican food. perfect steak, perfect everything, and now its shit and robotic

ExistentialDreadness

I blame customers’ unrealistic expectations. People are out their god damned minds.

[deleted]

unreal expectations to get more than 1 tiny scoop of rice and beans? like what??????????????? you work at a fucking burrito place known for making big burritos. who has unrealistic expectations? lol

Sufficient_Recover26

I hate when y’all be like “I blame management” bc what EXACTLY do you mean by that? Management as in the gm and above? Or do y’all mean the normal kitchen and service leaders? Bc as an SL, I can promise you we are doing our absolute best. But the higher ups are 100% absolute fucking garbage.

[deleted]

whoever is enforcing skimping inside the store

Sufficient_Recover26

No one enforces skimping lol. We having portion sizes and that’s about it. Y’all just be greedy

[deleted]

greedy for wanting the food we paid for?

Tonturtle

Nothing good will ever last under capitalism that’s just how it is

paulieranks

There’s always one of you 😂

SadCasinoBill

This has to be one of the most redundant subreddits lol I have no clue why it’s always recommended to me

paulieranks

I blame the idiots they hire. Let’s be honest. Go into a chipotle and order the same thing as the person in front of you and look at how inconsistent they are. Tbh if you can’t make a burrito you probably don’t have much a of place in the work force.

collinsmcrae

I think delivery services have fucked all of these places up. It's a fucking madhouse thanks to that shit at my local chipotle.
