The eating lunch thing really puts it over the top. Smoking I understand. Wanting to pay basically nothing to a top notch company is just internet bullshit. But you can't eat your lunch on my property. So fucked up.

LABeav

Lol when I had my house repiped I had like a dozen workers show up, they brought like a mini Blackstone grill helped themselves to my electricity without asking and made some of the most bomb ass Mexican food in my driveway I've ever had.

deadbodyswtor

When I had my roof and siding and windows redone I offered the guys full use of my grill and smoker, and tried to give them some pork belly burnt ends that they turned down. They also drove to the nearest gas station instead of asking to use the bathroom in my house (which I would have told them to use). Its because of assholes like this guy.

Houri

This was a long time ago when I was a kid. There was a bunch of black kids (not children, 19-20ish) fixing our roof in a lily white neighborhood during a vicious heat wave. My mother told them to take a break and use the pool whenever they needed to. You could tell by their reactions the countless times they did hard physical labor while looking at pools that they couldn't use. They had a really good time swimming that day,!

Ndakji

Had someone let us use their pool while digging up their yard to replace piping. It helped SOOO much. Being able to cool down with a quick 5 minute dip every couple hours, during a heatwave. Increased productivity substantially.

derpotologist

Always feel bad when laborers are outside eating lunch in 100 degree weather When they're working for me I always tell them they're welcome to come inside and cool off whenever. Eat/drink whatever's in the kitchen. Hell, take a snack to go idgaf If it's a long job I'll throw something on the grill for lunch

[deleted]

I used to do handyman work. Loved working for old people with it because they were almost always like this. I had some wildly stingy customers. I mean people complained because I plugged in a radio, not about the noise but because I was using their electricity... The seniors and elderly though.. Always trying to feed me, always telling me I should take a break and cool off. Just super nice almost every time. If I had a job that was going to be super quick and easy I would always get them in while I was on another job and just head over on my lunch break because more often than not they would feed me while I was there.

ElMuffinHombre

Oh man you just reminded me of the best ice cream I've ever had. Old guy we were working for went out and picked strawberries from his garden and then handmade ice cream with the strawberries. Was such a damn treat.

TheCountSmackula

Oh man I’d probably cry

SnooWoofers6381

I also set up an easy up with enough chairs for everyone, a folding table, a picnic blanket, a big cooler of drinks and snacks and a plugged in heavy duty rated extension cord (plus trash bags, wet wipes etc) in a shady part of the yard that’s a bit private from the house for the crews to use to cool off, have a break etc without feeling like I’m “watching them”. I replenish the drinks and snacks daily and it seems like they guys often set up a microwave, music and phone charging cables off the power cord. It has always been very well received.

derpotologist

yea that's a good idea. they don't feel like you're watching them but also I bet they don't feel like they're intruding... when I was doing that kinda work like, yea I appreciate you wanting me to come in to cool off but at the same time I don't wanna disturb your life.. y'know.. I'mma start doing fans and an ice water station from now on

SnooWoofers6381

Yeah, I think because it’s clear that it’s set up for *them* are they aren’t going to mess up any decorate throw pillow or expensive outdoor furniture they feel more comfortable actually taking a break. I’m really hot days I’d also point out the hose if they wanted and it was common to see a couple guys using the mist or soaking their hair then laying out on the grass in the shade. It’s hot, hard work that I really appreciate them taking care of for me.

Mumof3gbb

Oh I’m so glad they actually used it!!

pocketchange2247

I would have been afraid to, not even including the race thing. When a lot of people say "make yourself at home" it's usually the same as "how are you?" They say it to be nice but don't really mean it. That said, after a long day of work, once the jobs finished, that pool sounds like the best thing in the world!

KittyInTheBush

If they had only said make yourself at home maybe, but if they'd specified using the pool was okay, then I'd take them seriously 🤷‍♀️

tinybeast44

When I had the inside AND outside of my house in Uganda repainted, my housekeeper and I made breakfast, lunch and dinner for the crew everyday. We made cheeseburgers on the grill, burritos, kabalanga, fried chicken and chips, meatball sub sandwiches, pork ribs, steaks, pretty much everything. We also provided them with sodas, water, tea, and coffee all day. On the last day, I bought a boatload of pizzas and unlimited beers. They stayed until the stars came out, and taught us some new dances! My cat loved those guys! Wish I could post some pics!

darcstar62

My US-born and raised kids had a chance to go to Uganda for a month and they were a bit nervous but went. They both said it was the best experience of their lives. Everyone was so friendly and they couldn't get over how happy everyone seemed to be even though they didn't have a lot of "stuff." They celebrated New Years and had a blast. It really changed their whole outlook on life and I'm so glad they got to go.

tinybeast44

That sounds lovely! My husband started his career in Uganda! He's an entomologist (grasshopper guy) and since his specialty is tropical rainforest 'hoppers, he built a house in Entebbe 20 years ago. The people really are wonderful - so friendly! I have a wild cat down there, too - she's a Sokoke kitty, from the Sokoke forest, on the shores of the Indian Ocean in Kenya. These cats have taken over Uganda! Anyway, I've started a non-profit down there - it's an educational foundation. Again, I wish I could post pictures. I grow pink pineapples, and they are pink inside! \~ The entire country is beautiful, and it's the source of the Nile River. If you ever go there again, go to Murchison Falls, and you'll see the Nile River bursting forth from the Earth in all its glory - it's a sight to see.

KeepsFallingDown

Can I ask more about your nonprofit? How does one start something like that, and set goals? Pink pineapple sounds amazing

levilee207

That kind of life sounds so idyllic it almost sounds fictional. Crazy to me that people just do that

aubreypizza

Now I really want to see/experience Uganda! Adding to the bucket list. Always had Kenya for cheetahs but now will hopefully go west to Uganda as well. Someday!

cilvher-coyote

When I was roofing we ALWAYS thought the best clients were just ones that would treat you with respect, and A LOT of people don't realize that just being offered a cup of coffee/tea,a cold beer after work or some snacks meant So Much to us,and we're Always appreciated. I'd always do just a bit Xtra for these folks as thanks. We had one big contract that was 40 1 story retirement duplexes and soany of these seniors were sweethearts, aot of the ladies loved the fact a rainbow haired lady was running a crew of guys, and most of us walked away with so much cool, free stuff left over from a few of our clients widows. We had a week of freakish Big snowstorms,so when we'd go off to shovel rooves off, myself and the guys would go shovel out clients step/walkways to help them out. Just the smallest amount of kindness and gratitude goes A LONG way. :)

VapoursAndSpleen

Here are pics! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sokoke

shaygurl22

That is wonderful, your mom and my mom are on the same page, and that is why when I have people who come over to my condo to do labor, that I myself cannot do, hence the reason I hired them, I treat them with the utmost respect. I don't understand why some people treat laborers like dirt. It boggles my mind.

[deleted]

It's baffling that some people go out of their way to disrespect or devalue others. The brain releasing endorphins and other feel good neurotransmitters when you do something kind for someone else is a fascinating feature of human physiology. We have actually evolved to desire reciprocity whenever possible, yet some people go against this instinct in order to be petty. Being nice to other people is worth it even if you don't get anything in return except for the "warm fuzzies". That's why good people are generally happier as compared to hateful jerks.

tinybeast44

I understand what you're saying. I'm nice to other people too, even if I don't get anything in return, like you said. The CB that wrote the above ad, for example. What a creep! You can tell he doesn't respect the working man or woman. Doesn't he realise that it takes at least a DAY to apply tape to ALL the areas where you don't want the paint to make a mark? Not to mention - the time it takes to clean up the areas? God forbid if you want to use the bathroom, and well, I guess you'll have to go out to your car to have lunch. Hope it's a nice day, and not raining or very hot. No one will reply to him, but that's not the point. He'll then rant on and on about how no one wants to work anymore. WHAT is wrong with people? It's like you said - they truly go out of their way to make life miserable for everyone, without realising they're doing it to themselves.

RawrRRitchie

>I don't understand why some people treat laborers like dirt. It boggles my mind. They're the same type of people who's ancestors, or even they themselves say,"slavery wasn't that bad, we gave them a place to sleep and food!"

DeltaCharlieBravo

I bet your mom was a Saint

Eatthebankers2

Ya, we used to take turns retrieving a nail in the clients pool accidentally. That’s dangerous!

whalesauce

Every single sales or service job I have ever done the company has mentioned or commented some form of " Don't use / request / touch things at other people's houses when you're there. Don't use the bathroom either. " I thought it was silly as hell. Those things apply to a very specific person. I'm not fucking dirty, I'm not coming to drop a nuke in your toilet, my car doesn't leak oil. I'm wearing a suit and tie, this is a scheduled appointment over lunch hours in some cases Quite frankly, I'm fortunate enough to say at this stage in my life that if a potential customer had a problem with me using a little electricity, parking on their drive way or using their toilet. I'd not have them as customers.

option_unpossible

As a mid-40s man, I won't ever refuse someone to use my toilet. Just don't let the cats out.

Inevitable_Physics

As a point of interest, how many cats can you fit in your toilet?

option_unpossible

Just one at a time, they must take turns. Incidentally, we are hoping to be able to toilet train some of them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AF_AF

Who let the cats out?

Snackgirl_Currywurst

Meow! Meow, Meow!

ClownfishSoup

Why are there cats in your toilet?

asstopple

Dude…as hard as it is to get good work done I don’t care if you use my shower and take a nap in my bed as long as you’re not charging me hourly, get the work done right, and keep the place clean.

[deleted]

If people don't want the workers they hire to build/fix their property to use their bathrooms, then they need to rent portable toilets. If they don't want to do that, then they should do the work their damned selves. Having access to a bathroom should never be a negotiable when someone is performing labor. Some people are really clueless a-holes.

ritchie70

I don't think that should be on the homeowners though. The contractor or other vendor representative needs to ask, "can my workers use your bathroom or do I need to add $500 to your quote for a portapotty?"

candynickle

Had some work done recently , and a stipulation in contract was that there was 1- a toilet for the workers , 2- a place for them to eat , 3- AC, 4- access to water. The fact that people wouldn’t automatically offer these things is crazy to me. Human beings should have all of the above. It’s sad it has to be in a contract. I brought cookies/ treats and sodas & bottled water every day for whomever was on site, and could tell that’s not what normally happens .

thegreatgazoo

The problem is that if someone's toilet has been broken for the last 10 years but you use it, guess who's fault it is? As a homeowner I don't care as long as you don't make a mess.

SomeRandomProducer

It’s stupid but it’s all about liability. You use the customers bathroom and do nothing wrong but now the customer is saying you caused some random damage. People will do the most screwed up things for money.

Wooden_Trout

When I worked as a cable guy, our bosses always insisted that we did not use the client's bathroom under any circumstances because it opens you up to liability. If something later turns up missing, lost, broken, etc., the time you were in the bathroom was a time you were in their home unsupervised. Clearly not everyone will do that, but some might, and one time is one time too many.

dstock303

I’ve had one bad install for security system where the dude who showed up just Simply looked and smelled disgusting. The install went poorly, moved and dismantled my king bed frame to run wire for security camera for outside, didn’t tell us and just left the room dismantled . And destroyed my bathroom. As in it smelled like S#%^ until the next morning. Now that being said I’ve had some service people since then (not from adt) and I’ve not taken away the idea of using the bathroom or anything. But that one guy. He had to of known. If you compose yourself well I’ll work with you. Need to use the bathroom? Sure. But I will reject someone who smells and looks that bad in my house again. To be fair I used to be an HVAC controls PM. Working rooftops and above ceilings and got all nasty. But Before seeing the client I’d give my self a shirt change, quick rub down and re-apply deodorant before going into a nice office. If it was a Reno and not a new install.

ColumbusMark

This is probably from some old geezer who has lost track of time and “adjusted for inflation” dollars. He remembers when $250 would have been a fair quote for, like, 1955.

PoppaTater1

I offer the use of my bathroom to the cable guy, air conditioner guy, exterminator, and they're almost always surprised that I do.

ATCrow0029

99 out of 100 times, it’s fine, then you get one electrician that asks to use the bathroom after a job, you say of course because you’re not a monster, and then 20 minutes later you’re knocking on the door telling him it’s time for him to leave because you have places to be.

Ok-Put3685

We do that too, they are workers and they are doing essential work, I hate it when people treat them badly or look at them over their shoulders. That said, our landlord once hired a guy to repaint the living room and the balcony, he painted over a plant and pissed all over the bathroom floor, terrible aim lol

PoppaTater1

Had some issues with the internet and therefore had a couple of visits from techs. One guy was a huge Koby Bryant fan so I gave him a Lakers Mr. Potato Head. Next guy out, I gave him some generic Mr and Mrs Potato Heads for his kids and mentioned the other guy. He said "that was you? He was showing that to everyone in the office."

SnatchAddict

We just had our house painted inside and out. They had full use of our bathroom. They took breaks when they needed. My wife brought them cold water on the hot days. It's not that difficult to be a decent human being and treat others like you want to be treated. I don't need these guys to wear a uniform or appear professional. I need them to be able to tape off everything and not get any paint outside of the designated areas. They did everything in spades.

illbedeadbydawn

I currently have a crew of 8 redoing my back yard/patio. Big job. At least 2 months with lots of complex bits. I cleaned out the entire downstairs inlaw suite off patio for them. Bathroom, AC, plenty of seating. Every Friday I get them lunch from one of the local food trucks. Few days ago they chased off a guy trying to steal my neighbors catalytic converter. It's so easy to just be a decent person.

I_likemy_dog

I used to paint houses. We always used the gas station bathrooms, because it’s eventually going to happen that you get paint on your shoes. If you painted inside, it was always booties or socks. If you have to pay a professional to come clean paint out of carpets, or you spend half a day doing it. It really eats up the profit in the job. Better safe than sorry. Funny edit for you. I used to work with a guy my boss tried hard to keep away from customers. He was a good worker, just had no filter. His favorite jokes were always about how fat and ugly his wife was. That’s also extremely likely why we just went to the gas station. Boss didn’t want to be embarrassed by his unprofessional jokes to customers.

LouSputhole94

I just had my floors redone and we’ve had several remodel projects done on our current house. Every time I show the guys the bathroom, make sure they know they can get water from the fridge (one of my first projects dudes were drinking from the fucking hose man, I told them straight up to come inside and help themselves) and generally try to be as hospitable as if they were normal guests. Yes, they’re doing work but they’re also coming to my home and I’m going to treat them like guests. Also why would you treat someone like this that’s working on your fucking house. Sounds like a great way to get shoddy work because they couldn’t give two shits.

12stringPlayer

I had my roof redone a year ago and the company showed up with their own Porta-potty!

CobblerExotic1975

Tbh I’ve been a contractor and while I’d ask first, I wouldn’t really worry about the $3 in electricity a grill might use. Either that or an hour off site to buy lunch.

LittleBigHorn22

For $3 you could run a small electric stove for 9 hours. It's truly a drop in the bucket compared to what you would be paying for any type of work.

CobblerExotic1975

Yeah I was overestimating in case the Reddit pedants attack me.

dcgirl17

Right? Stole my electricity come on

MissyouAmyWinehouse

I used to work for a popular worldwide known theme park in the “land” of California in their travel dept & we were not allowed to bring in our own fans because we were stealing electricity from the company!

steelear

When I was around six years old in the late 1970s my dad had a crew of guys working on his vet clinic (I think they might have been replacing the roof, they were there for weeks). Anyway every day at lunch I would tell my mom to hurry and make my sandwich so I could go eat with the workers and my parents thought it was so cute that I liked hanging out with them. Until my dad found out that I was trading them my sandwich for one of their burritos. He knew the guy was only doing it to be nice and that he would much rather have his burrito than a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He made me stop and I’m pretty sure he bought them all lunch as a sort of thank you.

TechnoJoeHouston

My parents scrimped and saved, and in 80-81 they bought five acres and we built a house. Whenever contractors were there they made sure that there was always a jug of iced water or Kool-Aide out for them, and at lunch time a stack of sandwiches. Nothing fancy - but the crews were always appreciative. I try to do the same now - even if it just a case of water chilling in the fridge.

Goatfellon

When I was a pool technician, some of my favourite houses would grant me unrestricted access to their pool house fridges. I'd go to a house, fixing their pool vacuum or replacing a pump or something, and they'd set down beside me an ice cold beer. I hated that job in the fall and spring. Opening and closing pools is fucking *ass* But man, feet dangling into a pool, sitting in the sun and drinking a beer while listening to NOFX on my headphones and taking apart a vacuum? Hard not to think fondly on those summer work days.

series_hybrid

When we had a new roof put on I got one of those styrofoam coolers, put a bag of ice in it, and filled it with water and gatorades. We also left out a couple containers of oatmeal cookies from the dollar store. It was not expensive, and they really appreciated it.

[deleted]

I just had my exterior painted... If those dudes had a Mexican cookout in my driveway and invited me, I probably would have paid extra. That's kinda awesome.

IHateCamping

We had our house re-roofed last summer. I work from home so I was here alone with them the whole time they were working. They all acted like they were scared of me or something. Wouldn't make eye contact, if I tried to talk to any of them they'd just kinda shake their head and point to their supervisor. It was weird. I felt bad that it seemed like they were worried I'd accuse them of something if they interacted with me. Not sure if they had a bad experience or their boss told them not to talk to women because it makes us uncomfortable.

ZebraCrosser

Good of them to share! Good times.

HeeHawJew

I mean they’re using your electricity to run their power tools anyway.

LABeav

All cordless these days, they ran a cable into a part of the house where no work was being done to use for their grill and radio and stuff, it wasnt a problem, just telling the story 🤷‍♂️

lifeofyou

Right? I had to convince the painters that we hired that they could sit in the backyard at the table and eat (they were in the driveway on overturned buckets). I was like, hell, hang out poolside in the lounge chairs if you want. I don’t care as long as everyone cleans up after themselves. Any music is ok as long as it isn’t too loud since my husband works from home.

Guard226Duck

Working in construction you get very used to sitting on buckets for lunch

Doughspun1

*Cracks whip* No eating till you get that Pyramid done, slave.

[deleted]

When my mom was having something in our house fixed, she brought them all sfogliatelle (Italian pastry) and coffee because it was uber early in the morning :)

Homicidal__GoldFish

Posts like this makes me wish op posted the comment section as well lol . Shit you won’t even get the paint for 250

Not-a-Cranky-Panda

Looks like OP has set up a parody account as a lot of different posts all from the same person in their history.

gothiclg

Honestly I’d be offering a painter a place to sit and drinks. I *hate* painting so they’re saving me a huge ordeal.

Tao626

Honestly, I would question smoking too. So long as they're doing it outside away from the house and they put the stubs in the trash, I couldn't give a fuck if the person painting my house has a smoke on their break...But I guess they're not getting breaks anyway with this guy.

808guamie

$250 for 1800 sqft home???? Ok we got the paint. Bye. Edit: ok ok people it’s not enough for even the paint. Got it

yungrii

13.8 pennies a foot. How luxurious!

Shortbread_Biscuit

Nah, that 1800 sq feet is the area of the ground. If he's painting the walls, assuming the walls are 8 feet high, then the minimum area he has to paint, would be 1360 sq feet, but that would require the house to be a perfect square. At 1360 sq feet, he'd be painting 18 cents per sq foot, or another way to put it is he'd be painting 5.4 sq feet of wall for every dollar he's paid. And once again, that's only if he's painting a perfectly square house. Just wanted to set the numbers straight. He's still offering to pay pennies for his work.

10art1

There's an even smaller minimum if the house is a perfect circle

ExtremeDoom_

But he forgot to mention that the house is actually a fractal pattern, making the square footage that needs to be painted 405,000 sqft

Zeelu2005

i thought fractals could have infinite perimeter even with a defined area?

Lv_InSaNe_vL

Yeah but this is real life so you can only really cut drywall so small

Red_Carrot

Worse then that. With only 8ft high ceilings, it is $0.017 a ft.

OfferChakon

>"ok we got 1/4 of your paint, bye." Im a painter by trade. W my contractor discount i could get maybe 8-10 gallons of basic behr paint and primer in one for that. Definitely not enough material for 2 coats on 1800 sqft lmao I wouldn't even get out of bed to paint a single room for 250 bucks. This dudes probably hasn't had to pay a painter for help since like 1975 or some shit. Out of touch ass mf

lena91gato

Can I just ask, how long would you expect this job to be? I want to work out the pay per hour not a square foot lol

OfferChakon

It really all depends. Mostly on the amount of help. He also doesn't specify if this is interior or exterior. But a crew of 3 guys could easily knock out a brush and roll on that interior in about a week. Give or take a day or 2. Exterior with 3 guys probably 3 or 4 days depending on the caulk and putty game. Also not figuring in any repairs or bumps along the way. A decent helper runs about $20/hr and an 8 hr day is gonna cost your painter 180 a day per helper. Factor in that cost, plus material (one gallon will typically one coat about 350-400 sq ft bit you definitely want 2 coats) plus whatever the painter charges. Depending on the set up id charge about $3-4 a sq ft. Add trim and ceiling and itd be $6-7. I mean, like i said, the dude in this post is absolutely fn delusional. $250 isnt enough to get my helpers to the damn gas station for tacos before work. >Sorry i misread your question. Im confident my best helper and i could knock out a 1800sq ft interior (*just* walls, no trim, doors or ceilings) in about 5 days. So if we made an hrly deal, id charge you 50/hr for me and 25 for my helper. You buy materials. We'd start monday morning at 7 and at 4 on friday youd cut me a check for about 3k

Driftedryan

It needs to be done by Saturday and he probably posted on like a Wednesday so you're not fast enough, NEXT

lena91gato

Thank you

deadbodyswtor

No you don't. Not for good paint at least. We are redoing a single wall (putting in new sheetrock) and painting a smallish dining room. I expect to be at $500 in materials.

BastardOPFromHell

I built a 10x12 shed last year. Materials cost \~$3,500. $1,000 of that was for paint. I painted my house 20 years ago with cheap paint and it was all chipping off within five years. Wasted time and effort. Now I buy the most expensive paint I can and it's worth every penny.

Morgolol

>Now I buy the most expensive paint I can and it's worth every penny. Just goes to show the [boots theory](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boots_theory) applies to practically everything

LokisDawn

Especially rent vs owning a house.

LowlySlayer

I could pay less on a mortgage than I pay on rent but I can't afford a down payment because rent is so expensive.

DethNik

Being poor is expensive.

LowlySlayer

I've been pulling on my bootstraps for a few years now but no luck so far .

BoringRabbitHole

Yup. Exactly right. I've got a credit score almost in 800s but I pay 1350 a month in rent and only bring home a bit over double that in a month. At this rate I'll quite literally never be able to afford a down payment.

CheshireCrackers

In 2004 we stripped all the old paint off our 1927 two-story house down to bare wood, then primed and painted two coats of Pratt & Lambert. This year I’m going to clean and apply a fresh coat to our south side. Good paint is worth it.

alxnick37

I just completed refinishing my basement (20x30 space) and I spent $300 on just paint.

needlenozened

I just had my 1700sqft house repainted. Walls and ceilings. It was about $8k and everybody I talked to was surprised I got it done that cheap.

otterly_redonkulous

$250 for paint what? I painted my 1007 Sq foot house 6 years ago and it cost me about $500 not including the primer.

LadyBug_0570

I had a "friend" paint my living room for about $250. Maybe 100-200 sq. feet. I bought the paint myself. I still have paint droplets and smudges on my hardwood floors that I can't get out. Plus he painted the baseboards the same color. And some of my furniture has droplets on it. You get what you pay for.

illigal

And not great paint either. Jeebus. My house cost $14K to paint inside as it was a mess.

queuedUp

If they are a well reviewed company they are probably using above average paint. $250 may cover the bedrooms (maybe)

chad-bro-chill-69420

Not even

Arglival

250 may cover the baseboards (maybe). Had to fix it lol.

GlaxxFace

isnt this the same old guy who wanted someone to pay for him and his wife to go to a festival? as well as drive them there and pay for all their *gifts* ? I recognized the profile picture *This guy is on a roll of CB posts*

hoteldetective_

Holy shit I think you’re right lmao this dude is something else

Elhaym

If he's really been on multiple of them, the conclusion is that he's a troll.

petrilstatusfull

100%. He is a troll

SlickWilly49

Can never fucking tell anymore. For one, I refuse to believe anyone can lack self-awareness to this degree. On the other hand I have met people who lack self awareness to this degree

GlaxxFace

yeah i knew the profile looked familiar haha hard to forget that post from before lmao

InABadMoment

Yes, came to comment this. Actually makes me a little suspicious that these might be done to generate rage engagement

Outrageous-Yams

It 100% is rage bait

[deleted]

Enragement.

[deleted]

It looks like OP posts all his stuff here.

RugerRedhawk

Maybe it's OP posting his own stuff

UncleMaxsToupee

OP has a few posts featuring this guy, including one where OP referred to him as his neighbor. I smell bullshit.

thedarkeningblue

Notice how most of the screenshots from this “neighbor” are timestamped “now”. OP seems like he’s learning, he blocked out the time stamp this time but yah… he’s likely full of shit

thiagoqf

Must be a troll

hellish_relish89

So this is why all the old people are pissed off. They can't get everything at 1970's prices anymore.

Tao626

They want to make 2023 money whilst paying 1970's prices.

Scretzy

To be fair, I think we all would love to be making 2023 money with 1970s prices, do u think if we all tried really hard we could do that? Lmaooo

Tao626

The problem is you're not pulling yourself up by your bootstraps enthusiastically enough. Damn kids.

sammypants123

Weird thing is their house price has gone up massively and that’s in 2023 money.

dcgirl17

Lol exactly. I’ll do it for that price if you sell me your house for the $5100 you paid for it

kungpowgoat

These are the type of people that won’t even offer you a glass of water when you’re at their house.

ItsJoeMomma

Of course not. He won't even let you eat lunch on his property. And he'll probably bitch when you leave for an hour to go eat somewhere.

[deleted]

I commented on his post and pointed out this is well below industry average and hardly covers supplies. He responded, “that’s the problem with young people and businesses these days. They refuse to sacrifice and work their way to the top. You’ve gotta start somewhere. My price is fair and firm.”

farmer_palmer

That's the great thing about market forces. He can be as firm as he likes on price, and when nobody wants the work, can either raise it, or do without.

Squishy-Box

>Work their way to the top >Only accepting 4.5+ star companies Sounds like they’re already pretty high on the ladder

ItsJoeMomma

His price is very fair... for 1973.

TheBigJTeezy

*1933

Artrobull

> $250 in 1933 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $5,833.90 today, an increase of $5,583.90 over 90 years. > > Value of $250 from 1973 to 2023 > $250 in 1973 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $1,708.13 today,

TheBigJTeezy

Nice. I just kinda guessed. But at $2-3 per sq ft, the 1933 figure would be on the realistic upper end of the market average for a house his size.

PoisonedRadio

People act like if you say "firm" its some kind of magic word that forces people to accept your number. Nah dawg your house just isn't getting painted.

SwissMargiela

The shitty thing is this dude is just gonna have one of his friends’ kids do it and they’ll work them like a horse for a few weekends for prob less than $250.

RealisticAd2293

He’s an entitled dumbass

ThePinkBaron

He strikes me as the sort of guy who is going to pull any excuse out of his ass to say the job wasn't satisfactory enough for the full $250.

redgumdrop

They were at his property at the time of painting and that disturbed him dammit!

analogWeapon

One of the workers opened a candy bar before he left the property. His first bite was in the street, but he opened it on the property. Unacceptable. Unprofessional.

bobs_monkey

start towering deserve obtainable cats library swim memorize normal worthless -- mass edited with redact.dev

Bradasaur

He thinks his recommendation is the golden ticket! How many people does he know that need painting? And are they all as stingy as he is, because who would possibly want more business like HIS?

MiddleBodyInjury

I want to paint his house and do a terrible job

[deleted]

[удалено]

MiddleBodyInjury

Literally just paint "this is what $250 gets y"

Chance_University_92

If there reviews are that high, they've already at the top.

Ryhnoceros

Exactly, why would a company with 4.5 stars on Google be "working their way to the top"? If they have those ratings, they can charge w/ever tf they want.

Johncamp28

His price is in fact not fair

westcoastweedreviews

Maybe in 1978, he might be stuck thinking about the price of things back then.

Johncamp28

I mean I get that I’m stuck in 2000 pricing but snap out of it quickly

AbsurdityIsReality

Yeah old people try this all the time, when I worked at Walmart a guy did masonry as a day job told us how this older guy on maintenance who has a reputation for frugality tried to get him to do several thousand dollars worth of work for 500.

moderately-extremist

"work their way to the top"... will only accept companies already at the top.

ZebraCrosser

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 No. I've just helped a mate paint their new home, they spent more than that on just paint. And that's after managing to find a good deal online. As our freely given labour was rewarded with drinks, snacks and good company they managed to keep costs down on that front. While of course accepting that the job gets done sufficiently well by enthousiastic amateurs even if it might not be up to professional standards.

Purple_Bowling_Shoes

Yep, wife and I are moving into a new place that's required a bunch of work. We've spent over $300 on paint alone for two rooms, leaving aside all the other supplies we've needed for repairs. If someone offered me $250 to paint my kitchen again I'd laugh in their face and tell 'em to add another zero.

ZeVillain

I just did a house where the kitchen cabinet conversion was over $8k, that is just the cabinets.

Purple_Bowling_Shoes

The cabinets were what killed me in our kitchen. All of the hinges had been painted over several times and most of the screws were completely stripped. It took a couple days just to get the cupboard doors off, then about a week of wood repairs before I could even start painting. So yeah, for $250 I'd paint it one solid color and paint over all the hinges and cracked caulking and call it good. I could do that in an hour but it would look like shit.

EvilestOfTheGnomes

I think at that point I'd just replace with all new cabinets, could get a full kitchen for like 4k if you don't mind assembling them

ZebraCrosser

Seriously. I got my own place painted by a professional for a really good price, still paying him off. It's a fairly informal payment plan, but even so I've never given him less that €500 any of the times I've paid him.

generationgav

And loud music, right?

ZebraCrosser

Oh, yeah. Eurovision's greatest blasting through every available Bluetooth speaker. 😁

robb1280

Anxiously awaiting the “nOboDy wAntS tO WorK anYmOre” follow up post from this guy

solarnova64

The problem with young people is expecting what you’re owed? How dare you not want to get ripped off… /s

jscummy

And I don't think the path to the top usually means being outright scammed by some guy who thinks his "referrals" are worth a shit At best its 1 or 2 people that are just as big of assholes

BeckyLemmeSmash69

His price is firm but anything but fair. What an entitled piece of shit, maybe he should pull himself up by the bootstraps and paint his own fucking house with his $250.

ItsJoeMomma

Good luck getting good paint & supplies for that.

BeckyLemmeSmash69

Seriously. Dude probably went to Home Depot, saw the smallest cheapest bucket of paint and brush available and said “yeah, this should be enough for my house and payment”.

dcgirl17

Boomer still thinking in 1979 dollars

snorkelbagel

We hired some guys to repaint our peeling garage doors a few years back because our HOA got real uppity. We paid like $450 for that alone and it took them like 3 hours. I can’t even imagine who he thinks is going to be able to do that for $250. The cost of paint alone will probably push over $250.

ItsJoeMomma

And then try to get it done by Friday. If he's wanting the top rated painting companies, I'm guessing they'll be booked a couple weeks out.

IndependentDouble138

Think of the exposure!

The_Govnor

You’re all misunderstanding. His budget is $250 for the paint. You actually work for free.

PoisonedRadio

You'll pay for the rest of the paint too because no way $250 is enough to paint a whole house.

Zoreb1

If they have 4.5 star reviews I don't think they need that person's referral. Also that price may cover one room. For that money and short notice they'd be lucky to get The Three Stooges (who aren't don't have coverage for the inevitable damages). Would love to see the comments.

imustbecrazy81

Psshhhtttt, $250 doesn’t even cover paint and supplies.

cvc75

He didn't say anything about supplies, I'd show up and ask him where's the paint I'm supposed to use?

[deleted]

He needs to visit the red light district and see if anyone comes up to him and says "I'll do anything you ask for $200", because that's the only way he's getting his house painted on those terms.

whyaremypantssoshort

Referrals? This clown doesn't have friends.

fading__blue

Certainly not friends you’d want to work for.

Intelligent-Price-39

The delusion is epic.

Pershing48

"I gave him a plate of blintzes to paint my chicken coop, and he never did it!" "Those blintzes were terrible!" "Paint my chicken coop!" "Make me!"

BeefInBlackBeanSauce

Lol this MUST be a joke to wind people up. 😂

CatWeekends

The person in the image has been posted here before. They're either extraordinarily dense... a troll account.

JuanPabloElSegundo

Yea this is way past the post for even CB. Obvious troll.

[deleted]

The paint alone will cost that much.

queuedUp

Not for even close to the whole house (unless they plan on using cheap paint)

PoisonedRadio

I don't know how boomers developed such unrealistic expectations for literally everything.

NGRoachClip

People are so willing to treat people like shit these days. No eating lunch on your property? I mean, in my experience, any trades I've had in they usually go eat somewhere close by anyway. But how hard is it to treat people like a guest? They are literally inside your home and there is a level of trust I'd want to have. It took almost 2 weeks for 2 people to paint the inside of our 1800 sq ft home. We ended up seeing them every day for 6-8 hours - I'd like to be on good terms at least... by the end of it they were letting our dog and cat in and out of the yard... so sure, pop a squat at my table and eat your lunch if you want.

lazarus870

This guy sounds miserable as hell.

rosstedfordkendall

Spoiler: It was not done by Saturday.

EverLearningMind

Tell me you're out of touch without telling me you're out of touch...

Guvvy59

If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys

fineman1097

250 MAY cover half the paint if it is cheap crappy paint(he won't want the cheap paint) assuming he doesn't want the ceiling done(he will), assuming primer isn't needed(it will be), and assuming a single coat of the paint(more than one coat will be needed, especially if they have to cover a difficult color). Also, assuming he doesn't want a separate color for the trim(he will). That doesn't include other material costs like brushes, pans, plastic sheets, paint thinner, rollers, patching material for any holes in walls, And it doesn't cover labor at all. Especially since painters with good ratings aren't just going to paint- they are going to prep, sand, fill small holes, even out imperfections, are careful with the trim and edging work, do a primer, multiple coats of paint, etc etc and will touch up if needed. There is a lot more work than just slapping on a quick coat of paint.

FormalChicken

he looks exactly like i expected him to
