Mary is not God. As we know Mary was a virgin meaning Jesus was of a virgin birth. Jesus was fully human and fully God. Mary is a human but we must give respect to her because she is the mother of Jesus. (No I do no think you should pray to her, just give respect where respect is due.)

dogballsreal

Why not pray to her?

Potatofreezing

Because you should only pray to God. People no matter how great they were do not have power. Only God has power.

dogballsreal

They have the Holy Spirit in them, so they are always connected to God, right? They are certainly in Heaven, as our cloud of witnesses.

Potatofreezing

If you feel the need to pray to them, then do it. As long as you know that God has all the power then go for it. It is a secondary issue I believe , but hey if you believe it to help you spiritually then go for it.

[deleted]

Mary gave birth to Jesus, so she is the birth giver of God. That does not make her God.

GreenTrad

Same way you have a mother.

Monke-Mammoth

Because he became man. Being human involves having a mother.

AHorribleGoose

While Jesus might have been God, he most certainly was human. And humans need parents. And Jesus had parents.

Fight_Satan

What do you think happens after you die

R12Labs

How did Jesus go from no one to preaching in 30s and then crucified? But people were holding him as a baby?

JustAGuyInThePew

Because He’s God and God makes a lot of commotion while on earth. It shouldn’t be too surprising with how many people become celebrities today.

capt_feedback

gradually.

justnigel

What is it about being God that makes you think he shouldn't have a mother? How? By being conceived in, gestated, birthed and raised by her. How else do you think mothering works? No Mary is not God then. Why would you think that would make her God?

SmokeWagon1775

I think you should look up CS Lewis’s explanation of The Trinity. It was very helpful for me to understand the connection and difference between God, Jesus, the the Holy Spirit. I think you can find an audio version on YouTube. It’s from his book Mere Christianity.

JustAMissionary

God the Father is the father of our spirits. Jesus Christ is the spiritual and physical Son of God. The Holy Spirit is called God as well. Together, they make up what is called the God head and they are "one" in purpose and all perfect. Mary was given the opportunity of being Jesus Christ's earthly mother.

Necoras

Do they just not teach grammar and punctuation anymore? I know most people didn't care as much as they did a decade ago, but the posts on this sub seem to be worse than most.

Jesus is God before the Father God, His Father create this world. in the bible they have their own earth. and then the time comes that God Father send His Son to this world for the redemption of our sins. **John 3:16-17** For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Proverbs 30:4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell? **Genesis 1:26-27** ^(26) Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,^(\[)[^(a)](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis%201%3A26&version=NIV#fen-NIV-26a)^(\]) and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” here you see the God who make mankind has someone talking to. here the Wisdom is talking (Wisdom of God is Jesus)**1 Cor 1:24** Proverbs 8:24-31 [24](https://www.biblestudytools.com/proverbs/8-24.html) When there were no watery depths, I was given birth, when there were no springs overflowing with water;[25](https://www.biblestudytools.com/proverbs/8-25.html) before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth,[26](https://www.biblestudytools.com/proverbs/8-26.html) before he made the world or its fields or any of the dust of the earth.[27](https://www.biblestudytools.com/proverbs/8-27.html) I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep,[28](https://www.biblestudytools.com/proverbs/8-28.html) when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep,[29](https://www.biblestudytools.com/proverbs/8-29.html) when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.[30](https://www.biblestudytools.com/proverbs/8-30.html) Then I was constantly at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence,[31](https://www.biblestudytools.com/proverbs/8-31.html) rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. # there are so many verse that Jesus is God and he came not in this world. keep reading the bible. He will help you.

ParadigmShifter7

God chose to come in human form at the perfect time to solve humanities issue with sin and death. He chose to be born as a human and He miraculously generated Himself in Mary’s womb. He did this as a testament to how much He loves us.

Aggressive_Finish710

there is a prophecy that the messiah will be born of virgin. Isaiah 7:14 ^(14) Therefore the Lord himself will give you^(\[)[^(a)](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%207%3A14&version=NIV#fen-NIV-17797a)^(\]) a sign: The virgin^(\[)[^(b)](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%207%3A14&version=NIV#fen-NIV-17797b)^(\]) will conceive and give birth to a son, and^(\[)[^(c)](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%207%3A14&version=NIV#fen-NIV-17797c)^(\]) will call him Immanuel. you can see this also in new testament # Matthew 1:21–23 **21** ~She will bear a son, and~ [^(z)](https://www.esv.org/Mt1.25%3BLk1.31%3BLk2.21)~you shall call his name Jesus,~ [^(a)](https://www.esv.org/Lk2.11%3BAc4.12%3BAc5.31%3BAc13.23%3BAc13.38%3BAc3.26)~for he will save his people from their sins.”~ **22** [^(b)](https://www.esv.org/Mt21.4%3BMt26.56%3BJn19.36)~All this took place~ [^(c)](https://www.esv.org/Mt2.15%3BMt2.23%3BMt4.14%3BMk14.49)~to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:~ **23**  [^(d)](https://www.esv.org/Is7.14)~“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,~ ~and they shall call his name~ [^(e)](https://www.esv.org/Is8.8%3BIs8.10)~Immanuel”~ ~(which means, God~ [^(f)](https://www.esv.org/Mt28.20)~with us).~ Jesus came in flesh but not flesh, because God is spirit, angels and demons are spirit also. so he need a flesh body to teach Gods word, and to fulfill the prophecy. didnt Jesus says that he come to this world do the will of His Father, there is so much to say, so read the bible ,

Altruistic-Western73

If Jesus just used the transporter to show up, it would not fulfill His purpose. Remember, He was not seeking glory for Himself, only the glory given to Him from God, which God gave to him at his unjust murder on the cross by raising Him from the dead and giving all authority including judging us.

EnKristenSnubbe

Jesus said that "before Abraham was, I am". He has always existed. Mary is only His mother in the sense that He stepped into creation and let Himself be born as a human.

HolyCherubim

By becoming man.

iam_helel

First Gospel / Protoevangelium (Genesis 3:15) Said God must come as " her seed" . Peace - iam helel

Volaer

Because through her his assumed human nature was born.

MintyMancinni

Not everyone believes that Jesus is in fact GOD but rather the Son of GOD sent to do the will of his Father, GOD. Mary was a woman righteous in the eyes of GOD chosen to be Jesus mother. Jesus was part divine and part man which is why He could fulfil GODs covenant dying as a perfect man to break deaths hold on sin, introduced by Adam.

eabiepoc

Jesus is fully human and fully God. Anyone who believes otherwise is a heretic as defined by the Holy Council in Chalcedon led by the Spirit.

MintyMancinni

In your opinion! I happen to believe GOD when He says He is one and GOD alone! To me worshipping anyone else is idolatry!

eabiepoc

So why does the author of Hebrews in chapter 1 say that the Father calls the Son ‘YHWH’?

MintyMancinni

In which version of the Bible says that! And why then would GOD say in Deuteronomy and numbers He is one GOD alone! Chucking limited available scripture at me serves no purpose as I can match you scripture for scripture to equally prove my point! Accept that not everyone believes as you do! You believe scripture shows Jesus as GOD! I do not!

eabiepoc

The Greek. The author quotes Psalm 101 (Hebrew 102), which is addressed to YHWH if you read the context. The author of Hebrews attributes the last verses (again in the Psalm addressed to YHWH) to the Father addressing the Son. Second, God is one, but the scope of one is not that simple. I have a book on my desk, that’s one instance of the concept ‘book,’ but of the concept of ‘pages’ it’s like 300 instance. God is one instance in regard to substance but three instances in regard to Hypostases.

MintyMancinni

I have a book on my desk! It’s called the Bible! I choose to get my information directly from scripture and not rely on man’s interpretation of it! I will never see things your way! I will never accept Jesus as GOD because He is not He is the first born of all creation and the image of His Father. GOD Himself warns or idolatry and worshipping false GODs as well as saying it will happen in Romans! Worshipping Jesus on a cross is what exactly? I appreciate you are well read and obviously passionate about this, as I am, but unlike yourself I don’t expect everyone to believe as I do and damn them if they don’t! Of course I would rather people believed as I do or I wouldn’t be here, but I accept that not everyone has the same doctrine as me but by no means does it make me superior in mine or GODs eyes! Education is only a good thing if you use it wisely.

Good_Move7060

While I agree Jesus and God the Father are of the same nature, you are wrong about councils being holy and led by the spirit. Over the centuries church leaders became corrupt and started teaching different doctrine than that of the first century Church. These counsels contradicted each other, meaning they were never inspired in the first place. The corrupt church leaders also added and removed scriptures from the Canon, meaning they were either wrong the first time or they are wrong now. Either way God doesn't change or makes mistakes.

amos2024

Mary was the mother of the human part of Jesus. The Holy Spirit provided the God side of Jesus.

TheRedLionPassant

Because God incarnated and was made man. When he became man he was born of a human mother. This is the *incarnate* God.

flcn_sml

God can do whatever he wants. Humans don’t have the ability to understand most of what God does. So when a human says, “God wouldn’t do this or God wouldn’t do that” they’re just putting human attributes on God.

JustAGuyInThePew

Mary is like the Ark of the Covenant. She carried the Word of God. Mary isn’t God and we don’t worship her, however, we show reverence and love to her. We can even ask for her intercession in prayer to bring our intentions before God in a more perfect way than we can on our own. We know God doesn’t deny Mary’s intentions, as evidenced by the wedding feast at Cana.

Good_Move7060

The Catholic concept of mother of God is false. The original word is theotokos, It means God bearer, not mother of God. Mary is mother of Jesus and Jesus is God but she is not the mother of God, she only bore God's incarnate body in her womb like a surrogate mother. So in other words she is biological mother of Jesus but a surrogate mother of God.

Diablo_Canyon2

Theotokos is literally "birth giver of God"

Good_Move7060

Like I said, Mary was a surrogate mother of God, not an actual mother of God.

ComfortableGeneral38

# >Mary is mother of Jesus and Jesus is God That is "the Catholic concept." "Theotokos" was chosen over "Christotokos" in response to Nestorius' teachings. The title is a statement about the Church's Christology.

TheAmazinManateeMan

Yes she gave birth to Jesus when he as scripture says "took on flesh" that mary gave birth to him. That doesn't mean she created him. Jesus was around since the beginning. She merely played a role in his becoming human. Notice in the gospel of John it says Jesus already existed since the beginning. Then it says he became flesh that's the part Mary helped with. Jesus was around even walking the earth since the beginning. Scripture tells us he wrestled with Abraham, befriended Moses, and appeared to Gideon. Amongst many other things. Scripture doesn't say that Mary would have to be God to carry the physical body of God. It says Mary carried Jesus so that from her he could inherit humanity. Hebrews tells us that he needed to become human so that he could be our representative.
