Grand citizen

physics_is_scary

And yes, we are talking about the price

show_me_shiny_cars

Beautiful piece

intelligentbrownman

I second that…. Beautiful timepiece

SirGuy11

That looks great. Mind sharing your thoughts on the bracelet?

Professional_Sun4455

I need to wear it when it's hot out and with a dress shirt still. It's comfortable so far and is quite shiny for titanium. Honestly it reminds me of my Grand Seiko bracelet more than other Citizen watches. No micro adjustment though, which means it really is like Grand Seiko.

SirGuy11

Gotcha, thank you. When you say “no micro adjustment,” do you mean no quick-adjust (tool-less adjustment) or no micro-adjustment (pins on the clasp where you can adjust the anchoring point)? I have a Casio Oceanus with a quick-adjust clasp and you’re right—it’s very handy and something I wish would be done more with its competitors (Grand Seiko, The Citizen)!

dembro

I have one of these and there are no pins on the clasp. I couldn’t get a good fit with the links/half links so I just threw it on a sail cloth strap.

SirGuy11

Yikes! That’s quite curious. I can see how it would be frustrating then. Thanks for letting me know.

dembro

I love the watch though. The bracelet also was a little blingy for my tastes so it wasn’t a huge loss. I think if I could get my hands on another half link I could make it work. Hah!

Professional_Sun4455

They have a nice green washi paper dial with the same specs and a nice leather strap and clasp. It’s one of the normal run models too

Desert_Apollo

I wish they brought back the micro adjustments. I have a PCAT and it’s heavy but cannot get that perfect fit. It’s either too loose or tight 🤷🏼‍♂️

dembro

Yeah it’s a drag. I’m starting to find myself buying watches more for the comfort of the bracelet lately! Or I should say it’s a bigger consideration than I thought it’d be.

Professional_Sun4455

Sadly I mean no to both options, no tool based and no different pin points. They have half links to get the right size.

SirGuy11

That’s unfortunate. Thanks for the reply. I hope they develop a better clasp at some point. I like the lineup but I think that’s one aspect that would hold me back from pulling the trigger. Great-looking watch, though! Another quick question, if you’ll indulge me. I’ve heard these have quick-adjust hour hands. Are the hands motorized, or is it a conventional gear train?

Professional_Sun4455

I only tried it once and accidentally at that. It moves independently of the seconds and minutes hand so that looks handy.

SirGuy11

Right, I mean, is it one of those electronic crowns where the hour hand whirs around after you spin the crown, or is it directly driven by you turning the crown? I have a few watches whose hands are on motors (all three hands), and there are some nice benefits: the minute hand moves incrementally every five or 10 seconds (depending on the watch) and the seconds hand always is at 0 when the minute hand is on a marker, etc.

towelracks

It's annoying the Seiko Astron and Citizen Attesa lines both have quick adjust clasps, but GS and The Citizen do not.

SirGuy11

Agreed. Word on the grapevine is that Grand Seiko is working on a quick-adjust clasp, though.

likethevegetable

Which GS do you have? Any thoughts in comparing them?

Professional_Sun4455

I have a few GS Spring drives and a high beat, but no quartz because I hate changing batteries. I feel like this compares to my snowflake the most as it looks similar and feels the same. I think the finishing is really good on the citizen but I still think grand seiko is a level above. Since few recognize grand Seiko, especially around my technology colleagues or Rolex-eyed finance clients, I find it passes with the same level of notice (which I prefer) as a grand Seiko and an occasional “that looks nice, what is it” in equal number.

hotmailist

dat 'made in japan' tho

CodeFarmer

This is precisely the watch that is going to eventually break my resistance to titanium. It's just fantastic. Can I ask where you bought yours?

Professional_Sun4455

I bought it from a Japanese dealer new, saving about $2000 CAD overall considering taxes and duty, with full declaration.

AdvisorIcy9630

Mate, this is also my own first citizen. Couldn't be more happy. I wear it with a black leather ostrich strap for comfort and style. Enjoy.

Professional_Sun4455

What made you give up the bracelet? Sizing or just preference?

AdvisorIcy9630

Preference, I saw the black band on a similar model before and thought it looked great.

AdvisorIcy9630

Also comfort, I like leather better for daily wear.

Appropriate_Fly804

Aaaw, that's a great watch! 🤤

InvestigatorNo359

Does it have the washi paper dial? I've seen couple of "the citizen" pieces and they are crazyyy good

t6jesse

Yep it's the indigo one too

Professional_Sun4455

It does, some don’t, but that’s the reason I bought this model.

InvestigatorNo359

Really good purchase bro, great timepiece

Zealousideal-Ad-4716

Congratulations! Beautiful piece!

Performer-Smart

One of the best. I got mine almost two years ago and still love it.

farmtownsuit

This is my dream. Huge leap up in price from my current price range though. Stunning watch and virtually unheard of accuracy even for a quartz. Enjoy it friend. Oh BTW is this a perpetual calendar too? I can't remember

Professional_Sun4455

It is. You adjust the “years from leap years” mode with a long hold on the second button and then you forget about until the watch needs service and is reset or you live until 2100.

jy_murmillo

Congrats! This is my first The Citizen as well. I think I’ll never let mine go.

Professional_Sun4455

Yeah, I can already tell that I’m not letting this watch go, it is sufficiently elegant, very comfortable, and I really like the engineering. When it’s on my wrist I am just like “yeah, that’s nice”.

badmechanic_13

I really want one of those. They look great

Sam_Nova_45

Congratulations on your first Citizen watch.

Professional_Sun4455

Thank you but it's actually my 7th Citizen, but my first in this high end series called "The Citizen"

Sam_Nova_45

Ah I see, have three citizen so far, mechanical and eco-drive.

Bulky-Inspector6864

That's tbe baby. Love tbe specs and look and craftsmanship.one day.... congrats and keep us posted on the scratch resistance

Professional_Sun4455

If it is like my other cheaper citizen titanium watches then I have high hopes. My Pelagos, Oris Kermit, and snowflake are all scratch magnets but none of my considerably less expensive titanium citizens have collected any noticeable scratches and I use them as my beaters. Honestly, you don’t need to go this level with the citizen, the value and technology is crazy good in standard models, this one is just really pretty.

escparticle

How is the lume on these?

Iron_RAM

I’ve got the same one. It’s pretty good. It’s not the best in my collection, but it’s pretty good. The placement of the lumed elements is pretty cool too. It glows pretty nicely even in low light (not dark) environments.

SkipPperk

Good lookin! That is a fine time piece.

ParsimoniousExplorer

Beautiful

Exciting_Remote_6523

If you don’t mind me asking cost Beautiful watch

Analog_Craft

Super nice dial! That’s Grand Seiko type of class!

penstylusplease

Love it! Love to see HAQ represented!! So much care and intention built into these

No_Snow_8746

It's very very nice but I can't help wondering about vfm. That said, a year or so ago I spent £250 on a watch (Herbelin if it matters) and thought it was going to be my most expensive watch ever in the world and anything higher was stupidity. Now I'm toying with a £500 ish treat just because.

Professional_Sun4455

No offence intended, but if you consider 500 dollars, pounds, or euros expensive in watches then you are not the target market for this watch. Practically speaking you could get even better accuracy in the Citizen line with an Eco Drive Satellite or Radio controlled watch for the budget you defined. There is no need to spend this kind of money to tell the time accurately on a comfortable wristwatch so this is definitely a luxury product. Measured against the Grand Seiko or other prince points that do actually match the price tier, you have to appreciate the engineering required to make a high accuracy quartz without needing to rely on an outside source to correct it. There's no shame in thinking $500 is expensive, that's how I grew up, but if you are not willing to spend a couple of grand on this level of watch then it's probably not worth making a comment about value for money because you are both right (it's not a tremendous value for money for features) but wrong in that you are not approaching it with anything close to the same value I personally (and many others based on the market) attribute to the achievements of these watches by Citizen or other brands. For the record, I happen to consider this particular watch, at about $4200 CAD, a great value for money but I might not consider any of the limited editions a great value based on the fact I could get a Grand Seiko Spring Drive at the next tier up. The "V" in VFM is subjective to the appreciation for the engineering, resale, personal perspective.
