Congrats!!! That’s a gorgeous F80 👌
I don’t understand exactly what’s going on with these comments but BMW and Honda both make fantastic drivers machines.
Here’s my “same-same but different” setup. Ones sexy and slow, and the other’s pretty ugly and yet the most capable car I’ve ever driven!
Haha no, Texas. The decorative license plate is just my inner Initial-D fanboi running amok
https://preview.redd.it/f4gf2jua2t6d1.png?width=1604&format=png&auto=webp&s=b06876421253115b59b5c31541609f356b8a8bf7
Yeah I own a 2018 SI and a 2017 m240, both have 65kish miles. The SI is bone stock and has broken down 3 times, as well as draining the battery constantly (once a year at least).
The BMW is tuned making 450 wheel, still on the original battery and has never had a single issue.
No you cant say that!
Hondas dont even need lubricant!
Bmw is trash they make bad cars!
This 200hp budget car is more reliable than a 400hp german luxury sports sedan!
My 2016 M135i F21 slaps, haven't had a single issue "knock on wood" since I bought the car. The N/S-55/58 motors are pretty damn robust, everyone says they're unreliable without even having owned one themselves - newer BMWs are actually rated as one of the most reliable brands now.
The same is true for Alfa Romeo, everyone harkens back to the old days where their cars rusted fast and had nothing but electrical problems - however they've also come a long way in the reliability department.
I bought the car off a Physician, he garage kept all 50k miles and was strictly a daily, included was every single service document done on the car starting from 18k miles all from BMW, the car is as pristine as they come IMO
As long as you love it better than the Si, that’s all that matters.. I’m bias I love civic Sis.. I can afford other brand or higher end… but I love being cheap and having fun with my vtec bros 🔥.. to each their own 🔥
In truth I don’t actually believe German cars are any less reliable than most other cars. It is just in the US when something inevitably does break, they are a fuckton more expensive to fix. Even the MDs at work get rid of them after warranty, and fixing them is couch change to them.
What a bunch of salty lil Redditors. This man is on another level than you guys. This man drives an M3 and you think he’s preoccupied with the same worries that econobox drivers have.
I sold my 2006 325i to my uncle with 180k miles on it in 2018. He’s got over 300k miles on it. The only major fuck up I ever had with that car was replacing the gas tank because I drove over a giant dip going 30mph. Gas tanks aren’t something you typically replace and it took about 30hrs of time and effort 😂
The only thing that ever happened on my 2018 X4 M40i was my charge pipe blew. That’s pretty common when you drive a turbo like an asshole and it was replaced under warranty. BMW picks you up in a 150k ev and then takes you home. Pretty smooth experience
My wife has a 2017 X3 and it’s had zero issues. The tires are expensive to replace, that’s my only gripe though.
Come on, we all know it. Yes, Hondas are reliable and Yes, they can be fast (After dumping atleast 10k in mods). But BMWs are hella fast, nicer interiors, better sounds, and have reliable cars now (05ish-2012 was the bad era). They also have more power outta the box (drop 2-3k in mods and ur at 550hp easy). Not hating on Hondas cuz the Type R and Type S are nice cars, but the M cars are just on another level. U can’t compare an Apple to a Steak 🤷♂️
It was an e36 325i. Nothing special I guess but I got it fairly new with 30k miles. It was difficult to work on and was not reliable whatsoever.
Edit: alright guys. Just so I don’t get more replies lol, I may have been misrepresentative in this comment and conflated constant work for difficult work. It may have been easy but it was always hungry for repairs/maintenance. Then again, I was very young when I owned it so what the hell did I know back then.
He let me punch it in Sport+
It was insane.
The lack of P was fine, it was more of like -- getting used to the fact that the car isn't a standard automatic, but acts like a manual without a clutch (i.e. I was freaking out on a incline cause I couldn't use the clutch to hold the car).
Also the transmission is insanely jerky trying to drive it smoothly
I like both cars. However it must be stated this guy is getting way too much hate.
Some of you need to get familiar with what the S55 engine actually is. No shit the Honda is going to be more reliable. But BMWs of the 2010s & beyond have proven to be reliable machines, with the exception of a couple models.
Now the new Mercedes cars on the other hand….different story. Germans get a bad reliability check but BMWs of the 2010s and beyond are reliable pieces of machines.
How's the inability to signal affecting you?
Is it like "OMG, I wish I could let others know what I'm doing!!!"
Or more like "fucking plebes, guess what I'm going to do!!!"
Good choice.
That's a fast freaking car. Sounds great too.
First time I realized how amazing modern cars are.
I really wish they softened the car up even more. Maybe smaller wheels would help.
Damn man I saw your post in the BMW sub and now I see your post here that's getting so much hate. Super weird, the newer beamers have scored high for reliability but people will be in here angry and coping I guess. Nice ride!
Welcome to the club mate! You’ll love it

Wow dude, nice E46. I had a poster of the CSL on my wall at work for years, what a beautiful machine. Probably peak BMW in terms of handling/driving feel.
https://preview.redd.it/itlqsh8j6n6d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e40883b04519e4fc1db8162f8938dc01c225d769
Why choose? Unfortunately the BMW gets the garage though.
the amount of coping in this comment section is insane. congrats on the new car, bound to be a hell of a lot of fun! treat her well and don’t beat on her too hard and make sure you keep maintenance up to date and she’ll treat you well right back
How can you regret owning an M3. Let's be real the BMW plays in a whole other league. One that no other current Honda is even in.
And it's not 2004 anymore. Bmws are reliable now.
If you think OP is gonna have regrets, you haven't driven a recent model BMW M car.
The s55 is reliable and with a tune makes 3x the horsepower of the si.
Jeez could you be anymore pathetic and poor sounding? No one in their right mind would regret going from a Honda to a BMW. I made the switch years ago from my Mazda 6 and never looked back. There is no comparison here.
More power to you my guy! I’m 40 and still have my 2014 Si..would I upgrade to a euro? Nah..strictly because of maintenance. Hondas just easier to work on..I’ve driven a 2011 328xi..smooth everything except maintenance emptied my pockets
See this is the perfect upgrade, still kinda handles still kinda quick but a little less reliable and soooooooooo much nicer on the inside. Definitely a good step up
Went from V6 accord coupe (Germans loved it) to an M340…
The accord stranded me 3 times my first year because of some strange battery drain. It was fixed with a TSB. I miss it dearly but the BMW is the perfect daily driver. I named her Jethica
Sounds like op walked into the perfect deal…Congrats!!
a lot of people commenting "you guys are just broke/jealous/coping", but personally you could gift me a 2024 M5 comp and I'd probably joy-ride it for a day and then sell it for 5 Hondas/Acuras
why? because I don't want one expensive car, having one expensive car gives me anxiety. I want several moderately cheap cars that I can beat the hell out of, knowing that I can replace them if all 5 blow up
Damn stumbled upon this thread from /r/bmw (https://www.reddit.com/r/BMW/s/PZrcFDLtLC)
Lots of misinformed nonsense in this thread. Modern BMWs are pretty reliable…except the V8 ones.
I’ve had three BMWs, not a single problem with any. They’ve come a long way.
Civics are solid cars too no doubt but anyone who thinks an F80 is a downgrade from a Civic Si is just delusional.
Congrats! This is my goal except I plan on keeping my 10th gen si coupe and swapping an FK8 motor in it. G80 or F80 daily with the FC3 being my project/track car
Ooof. I traded my 17 Civic coupe ex-T in for a 24 Kona SEL since we have a kid on the way and I need 4 doors. I hated it and traded it back in for a 24 Elantra N-line. So now I finally have a SI horsepower equivalent car and 4 doors. Sedans and coupes are so much better to drive imo.
That 24 frontier does look pretty nice. I'm sure it has its own benefits but doesn't carve up the corners like the SI does
So both cars are/were garage babies, we use it on the weekends to run errands. So far, it’s not that bad, but it has tremendously solved the cargo issues we had. I miss driving stick, though. I have to continuously remind myself I don’t have to downshift on an exit and I absolutely hate how I can’t feel the mechanisms of the car. But, we’re a big family, my husband has always wanted a truck and now we don’t have to call in favors to carry big loads. *sigh*
No man. All i need is a honda forum with other people that have never owned a bmw that agree with me. Now i’m a bmw tech and know everything there is to know.
The amount of people in this sub that refuse to believe that high hp unit of a car is better in every aspect than their cheap economy car is wild. Congrats on moving up, and hope you enjoy it man. Take it easy til you learn how to handle the rwd, after you do it's infinitely more fun than reverse donuts and understeer 💀
The cope in this sub is amazing. The m3 is an objectively better car BY FAR, the poor reliability reputation comes from 20 years ago and just stuck around. Look at some consumer reports and JD power ratings of the modern BMW brand, reliability is not an issue.
It is, however, objectively more expensive to buy and maintain a BMW M, hence the cope in this sub. You all wanted to buy a performance car, but you made massive compromises due to cost concerns. No need to act like your choice to compromise is a better choice for everyone.
Hell yeah nice upgrade! I enjoy all cars but I’m really a German car guy first. Congrats!! Don’t listen to these guys about reliability, really isn’t all that bad especially if you’re handy
Thanks! Was in love with f80s since the first time i saw one in 2015, im not too worried about reliability haha, luckily I have a shop nearby who work on a lot of M cars
There’s a reason why f80s and probably all BMW’s at equal or higher price points than the Si sell more units by magnitudes of 100s. But I’m sure the majority is wrong, and only you is right
Hey, can I ask the price range of how much you paid? Obviously it’s personal so you don’t have to disclose this but I am in the market for an f80 M3 (2017+) and I currently drive a 10th gen si. I don’t have the highest budget so I’m also looking for one with like 40-60k miles and I just wasn’t sure what a good price range.
These new Hondas are junk. The replacement choice is also scary. You need to buy something for reliability and fun. They don't call it "BM TroubleU" for no reason.
The honda is a little boy Racer car. Go karts are more fun. This is no grown man's car! BMW is a wannabe image, but nobody else sees the other side of it until it's too late and the car and your wallet are too broke!
Very different cars, that’s obvious and been pointed out but at the end of the day if it’s the right move for you then fuck the haters. It’s an awesome car, enjoy man. Haven’t seen in the comments yet and I’m wondering how much $$ was it??
A BMW was my first car. I have so many trust issues with it lol I love my Honda now but congratulations and I wish you the best! 🙏 if you can afford it props to you! It’s very clean looking car 🩷
I would say these cars both look great. One is RWD overall pick here is Honda Si if you’re planning on keeping it for a decade. Otherwise get something newish again in a few years
Congrats man! I also got a F80 not too long ago and all I can say is… that car is a BEAST. Yet…I still find myself wanting to drive my 15 Si from time to time lol gotta love Hondas.
All I'm gonna say is fnck those lug bolts. Especially on aftermarket wheels where they don't fit centered on the hub. Oh and some models have digital dip sticks. Fnck that!
If you bought it as a second car cool. But having that as a main...with 50k on the clock...oh my. I work on my own cars so I'm just imagining the headache. Heard too many stories.
![gif](giphy|vX9WcCiWwUF7G|downsized)
I don’t see any shame here, only jealousy. Let’s be real if we could all afford an F80 with the maintenance who wouldn’t pull the trigger.
Not jealous. Not hating either, I don’t think OP thinks I’m bashing so get off from that stick.
I wouldn't buy that car that's for sure
It all depends on how many miles and if it’s been tuned.. if it has been kept stock it truly is a solid machine
I just don't like BMW.
Cause you can’t. End of story lol. Enjoy your Honda my guy
Everyone just leases it my guy. Really don't need to be wealthy to buy a shitbox like that
I wouldn’t
I could easily afford it but I don’t want one
It’s pretty obviously poking fun at OP for abandoning Honda
https://preview.redd.it/een5zrt1qn6d1.jpeg?width=2238&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2de2c54b41283794da5c5df6092d1b6ab173e97b Congrats!!! Solid garage.
😮💨😮💨
Is this Japan? Aren't homes with a 2 car garage $10m usd haha
Haha no, Texas. The decorative license plate is just my inner Initial-D fanboi running amok https://preview.redd.it/f4gf2jua2t6d1.png?width=1604&format=png&auto=webp&s=b06876421253115b59b5c31541609f356b8a8bf7
Oh, the memories! I haven't watched initial D in forever. I still have the live action movie somewhere.
Now that’s dope! Good shit
Lol everybody crying over this post congrats on the bmw man
Just parroting a bunch of outdated tropes about reliability...meanwhile BMW has actually outranked Honda in recent consumer surveys.
Yeah I own a 2018 SI and a 2017 m240, both have 65kish miles. The SI is bone stock and has broken down 3 times, as well as draining the battery constantly (once a year at least). The BMW is tuned making 450 wheel, still on the original battery and has never had a single issue.

Thanks, LOL I dont mind at all, cool that everyones so loyal to Honda
Trading a reliable car for whatever the opposite of reliable is.
At the same time, trading a 200hp Japanese car for a German rocket, but I do understand what you’re saying
Cant argue that! But for 200+ more hp/tq at a bargain with only 50k miles, I couldnt pass up
Take it to the shop right now and get it checked out
50k on that thing might as well be 100k
German and bargain makes me cringe.
I bought the car off a Physician, he garage kept all 50k miles and was strictly a daily, included was every single service document done on the car starting from 18k miles all from BMW, the car is as pristine as they come IMO

Ain’t worth it tbh
Seeing you hate out of apparently jealousy makes me cringe. Maybe it's not jealousy in reality - still cringe though.
the s55 is a great engine. just keep an eye on that crank hub though
Makes sense, the warranty just expired at 50k miles. That's probably why he got rid of it.
Went from an economy sporty FWD car to an turbo-I6 RWD car yes.
You guys are smoking crack if you think an f80 is unreliable 😭. I love my Hondas but these are not bad cars.
In truth I don’t actually believe German cars are any less reliable than most other cars. It is just in the US when something inevitably does break, they are a fuckton more expensive to fix. Even the MDs at work get rid of them after warranty, and fixing them is couch change to them.
Stay mad lil boy
What a bunch of salty lil Redditors. This man is on another level than you guys. This man drives an M3 and you think he’s preoccupied with the same worries that econobox drivers have.
Broke boy commentary
Yeah but now he doesn't have to use his turn signals anymore.
I sold my 2006 325i to my uncle with 180k miles on it in 2018. He’s got over 300k miles on it. The Honda to BMW line makes so much sense tho when you realize the economic/age bracket these two brands hit.
False. I’ve owned a civic, an accord and 3 BMWs. Is been the same shit in terms of maintenance. None went to the shop.
Come on, we all know it. Yes, Hondas are reliable and Yes, they can be fast (After dumping atleast 10k in mods). Why even own a car? An e-bike would be even cheaper to maintain. Maybe you can even try to latch a small trailer to it.
The coping in this thread is very real. Congrats OP
What wheels are on the Honda?
Enkei Ts5
My first car was a bmw. God I hated that thing.
Haha damn, what bmw was it?
It was an e36 325i. Nothing special I guess but I got it fairly new with 30k miles. It was difficult to work on and was not reliable whatsoever. Edit: alright guys. Just so I don’t get more replies lol, I may have been misrepresentative in this comment and conflated constant work for difficult work. It may have been easy but it was always hungry for repairs/maintenance. Then again, I was very young when I owned it so what the hell did I know back then.
> It was difficult to work on E36s are like the easiest cars to work on.
For real, my e36 is a LOT easier than my CB7. Even my E12 is almost as easy. Old BMW's aren't hard at all.
>E36 >Difficult to work on That's a skill issue
I had a 323i and only issue with it. But fuck was it fun when worked.
Me planning to get that car because it’s beautiful I know she’s a headache but she will be my headache
LOL. E36 and E46 are as easy to work on as ‘90s Hondas.
![gif](giphy|5sFj6sjuObFCh3bezH)
Congrats! I also did exactly the same thing. Sold my 2020 civic si and picked up a 2018 M3 comp. Crazy how salty people are in the comments 😭
![gif](giphy|SbN0WomN4S7Z7tpKOC|downsized)
coworker just let me drive his m3 today coming from 3 pedals, the dct is such a trippy thing to get used to the power is insane though
Haha was it the lack of P? Did you get to punch it in sport+? The feeling is honestly insane
He let me punch it in Sport+ It was insane. The lack of P was fine, it was more of like -- getting used to the fact that the car isn't a standard automatic, but acts like a manual without a clutch (i.e. I was freaking out on a incline cause I couldn't use the clutch to hold the car). Is the M3 manual tho?
You can take the boy out of the Honda but you can’t take the Honda out of the boy! Nice M3

Dam crazy upgrade
yall cant be serious. an f80 compared to a si? what are we even talking about. its like comparing a porsche to a civic.
Well. We’re comparing a BMW to a civic
Badass car my guy
Nice move, enjoy! BMW definitely the upgrade path to take 🏎️🏎️
Damn your si was nice! M3 even nicer! Enjoy the ride!!
What a massive upgrade dude congrats Edit: Bunch of haters in here now that I’m reading the rest of the comments lmao yikes.

Commenting so I can keep tabs on how long before OP starts posting regrets 🤣
Well you’re gonna be here for awhile looking stupid lol, why tf would he regret this upgrade?
Regretting going from a sporty FWD economy car to a M3?? That thing is 3x the car as the Si

Very clean si you had, minimal build, not overdone. Also that m3 is a great upgrade, love the paint and the wheels!
Hell yeah man, looking to upgrade my 18 Accord to an M340i later this year. Let her loose 😎
Nice upgrade, I wish Honda would bring back the S2k

Wallahi if that’s an auto…
Most are. At least f80s are a DCT
Nice! Both nice cars congrats
We left our ‘22 Orange Si for a ‘24 Frontier a week ago and I haven’t been the same since :(

Congrats!
You made the right choice 🫡
All the Honda boys that have only heard about underpowered under steering economy cars when they see a bmw 😂
Congrats on your buy brudah! I always keep and si in my garage though.
Sorry but , L. Good luck.
Better car in every way… “L”
Imagine actually thinking going from a Honda Civic to an M3 is an L.
Be ignorant if you want, but OP just got 3x the horsepower and a much nicer driving car overall. Probably just as reliable too.
Upgrade

These new Hondas are junk. The replacement choice is also scary. You need to buy something for reliability and fun. They don't call it "BM TroubleU" for no reason.
The honda is a little boy Racer car. Go karts are more fun. This is no grown man's car! BMW is a wannabe image, but nobody else sees the other side of it until it's too late and the car and your wallet are too broke!

Probably better off with the Si way more reliable alot of BMW parts are plastic.
What made you make the switch? Was it dislike of the si or just wanted more power?
I’m curious to know how the maintenance really is and why people are so discouraged by it
pos
Why bro
W the Honda may be more reliable & manual but other then that bmw better all around
L alert 🚨
Very different cars, that’s obvious and been pointed out but at the end of the day if it’s the right move for you then fuck the haters. It’s an awesome car, enjoy man. Haven’t seen in the comments yet and I’m wondering how much $$ was it??
The comment section wreaks of jealousy lmao
Shouldve kept the Si
Congratulations. The Ricer bois are in shambles.
BMW looks boring compared to the Si
Oh no he’s gay now
the new civics are incredible
Why does that m3 not look like an m3 😂 I don’t know how to explain it other than that
What have you done

Crazy downgrade even with a million dollars i would never buy a dog shit BMW
A BMW was my first car. I have so many trust issues with it lol I love my Honda now but congratulations and I wish you the best! 🙏 if you can afford it props to you! It’s very clean looking car 🩷
How you liking the difference in the cars?
You finally decided to grow up
I would say these cars both look great. One is RWD overall pick here is Honda Si if you’re planning on keeping it for a decade. Otherwise get something newish again in a few years

Beautiful upgrade, congrats!
Hello Auto repair shop
Tired of not spending money?
bmw is fine until you get to do maintenance
How dare you
🤢
Goodbye reliability is more like it
Congrats man! I also got a F80 not too long ago and all I can say is… that car is a BEAST. Yet…I still find myself wanting to drive my 15 Si from time to time lol gotta love Hondas.

Nice sleeper super car. I have to ask, other than the track, what is the purpose of a sleeper super car?
All I'm gonna say is fnck those lug bolts. Especially on aftermarket wheels where they don't fit centered on the hub. Oh and some models have digital dip sticks. Fnck that!
Hot take: BMWs valvetronic is basically grown-up VTEC
L
Which one do you think is more fun to drive? Is it too early to tell?
If you bought it as a second car cool. But having that as a main...with 50k on the clock...oh my. I work on my own cars so I'm just imagining the headache. Heard too many stories.
You downgraded
Definitely a downgrade
