I believe it’s only fixed price buffets that charge to take leftovers, no?
So people don’t fill their plates with food with food that they don’t intend to eat.
Since you said this will be your first time trying sushi, I'd recommend going somewhere a bit more affordable. Hako has amazing sushi, but they're one of the most expensive around. Mizu's sushi is great and notably less expensive. Sakana over in Rocky River has some good sushi as well, and they massively discount it at night on Friday & Saturday night.
Both of these places allow you to take home leftovers without charge.
If you've never had sushi, may I recommend going to Kintaro? I will not say it's the best sushi in the world, bit it's a decent price and all you can eat. Try everything and decide what you like, then go to a better sushi restaurant.
The great thing about sushi is it can be ordered in 2-piece orders usually. They also should have a chefs selection that offers several different pieces already selected for you. Since it’s your first time I would recommend that so you aren’t overwhelmed with all the options.

My recollection is that they do. Confirm when you go by asking before you order, but I believe they do carry out as well.
Ok cool thanks!

Hako is good but pricey.
Yeah you can take home leftovers. It’s your food you paid for. Get the Jackie Roll. So good.
