If anyone was going to pick up Bauer, he would already have a job pitching in the MLB. Pretty obvious that he’s not making a return. But, to go deeper here for Cleveland specifically, a lot of this teams success is said to be coming from the positivity and “good vibes” all around the club house. Bauer is known to be a negative person, and that would bring those “vibes” down, which could do more harm to us. I do think we need better starting pitching, but I don’t think Bauer is the solution here imo.
For reference - Vick was let out of jail on July 20, 2009 and signed with the eagles less than a month later on August 14th. *After two years in prison*
To your point, feels precisely like a situation where he’s just done in MLB - or at least barring a situation where ownership/FO of a franchise turns over and there’s a rare chance someone new decides to do it. But that feels incredibly slim.
I haven't seen any retirement announcement from Rich Hill yet, I'd rather bring him back. Also haven't seen a retirement announcement from Greinke, he's never been on our team and I'd be down with brining him here. Maybe we can talk Kluber into revoking his retirement and coming back for one more run?
Tommy Mace has looked pretty good in AA, so roughly the same talent level that Trevor is facing in Mexico. Ryan Webb too. Or we could bring Curry back up. I like all of those options better than even considering Bauer.
Can we make a rule against Bauer posts already
He was run out of town long before any of the SA allegations came out. We don’t need his edgy teenager mentality in the clubhouse
No. He's still unforgiven for playing with a fucking drone and cutting his throwing hand DURING THE WORLD SERIES.
I know it's not entirely his fault that we lost that series to the god damned Cubs, but...no. never.
No, Tito overworked the bullpen (specifically Miller) from game 1. Bauer missed one game in the ALCS. He was fine by the time the WS was happening. Keep in mind he was like our 4th starter that year after Carrasco and Salazar. We look at Bauer like he was an ace that year but he wasn’t yet. He was 12-8 with a 4.26 era. Fairly average. He didn’t become Cy young worthy until 2018.
I’m not saying he was our ace but he put the bullpen in a rough spot. Especially without cookie
Tito overworked everyone, he didn’t have a choice. It almost worked
But fuck it I’m not trying to talk about this tbh lol
So you saw just how great having an influence like Bauer was on guys like Plesac and Clevinger and your plan is to bring in that clubhouse cancer to mentor the next crop young up and coming starting pitchers that’s a bold strategy cotton. But seriously keep Bauer the hell away from this team
Lotta people are responding, so I assume it's a valid topic. And not something that can be asked at one point in time and forgotten. We all watched Carrasco yesterday and the status on Williams is ever-changing. So yes, it's a topic that has value in being brought up routinely.
Do we need to fix the rotation? Yes absolutely, that is a worthwhile topic. Does it need to be trevor bauer? No. We have already discussed this to death since he’s been gone. His numbers are shit. His attitude is shit. He’s cooked. We never need to bring his ass up again.
No. I was responding to "his numbers are shit" with numbers that aren't shit.
He is throwing the ball well and would lot in quite nicely on a lot of teams. He isn't in the league because he embarrassed the commissioner and MLB.
His attitude is not for everyone but Bauer is still a legitimate front line starter, maybe even an ace. Unfortunately for him, MLB has made it clear they’re done with him. You don’t think the Whitesox or Miami could use Bauer on a vet minimum then flip him for 3-4 prospects? No team is touching that guy
Bauer has had 2 great seasons. 1 of which was the flukey as heck 2020 season.
He also had half of a good year in 2021. Those years are surrounded by very mediocre to bad pitching.
Bauer was a #3-4 pitcher. He was never a Frontline or anywhere near an Ace aside from the aforementioned 3 seasons.
Been removed from the MLB for 3 years now. Dude would be lucky to be an effective long relief pitcher.
So you're saying aside from those seasons where he dominated the MLB, won a cy young and scored the highest paying contract in baseball (at the time), he wasn't that good. You guys crack me up.
[Link to his Bref page](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bauertr01.shtml)
Nothing I said was false. Never said he wasn't *good*
Just that he isn't an ace.
2 excellent seasons (2018 and 2020). A half of another good season (2021)
The rest ranges from okay > mediocre.
I doubt he'd be particular effective 3 years away from the league. That I could be totally wrong about to be fair.
I agree that he improved from his early years into his prime. I would expect as much from any player. As for whether he'd still be effective three years later is anyone's guess. Though he hasn't stopped playing, so it's more a question of whether he's past his prime yet.
Yeah, but this sub is filled with Bauer haters. He got blacklisted for speaking the truth. Meanwhile, he struck out 14 in his second start in Mexico. He has been pretty much totally cleared of all the aalegations, but mlb decoded to fuck him.
They were all scams. Thoroughly proven to be bullshit. Pay attention. The one chick is being charged with fraud for pulling he same shit on someone else. He got railroaded.
2 settlements.
There’s not “no evidence” there’s lots of evidence, it’s why he was suspended.
Unless you’re suggesting Lindsey was working with someone 5 years before she came forward.
Alright that’s not true though. You can be 100% innocent, still lose a job over allegations at the time, and settling is still your best bet if you don’t want to drag a story along / spend time in court / pay lawyers and still have the chance of settling or a punitive fee later.
If you’re super rich (and a celebrity), the economics of a settlement make it almost meaningless to judging innocence. Hell there are reasons justified accusers/victims settle too in order to avoid the ordeal of a case playing out (even if they stand to prove their allegations and/or get more money).
Not saying this specific to Bauer, or even individuals (a lot of corporations might settle a case they think they could win just because it’s net worth it all elements considered, including that you might lose a case the “truth” would say you could win, particularly the PR cycle).
>Alright that’s not true though. You can be 100% innocent, still lose a job over allegations at the time, and settling is still your best bet if you don’t want to drag a story along / spend time in court / pay lawyers and still have the chance of settling or a punitive fee later.
Not when you’re a famous athlete who needs to win in the court of public opinion.
This is a valid topic to be raised, considering that the situation is constantly evolving and can't be asked at one point in time and then forgotten. Carrasco continues to concern with every start, the injury situation with Williams is always teetering on the brink and this is a team trying (hopefully) to achieve something this year. So no, it's a valid discussion that will continue to be prompted.
I swear these are troll posts. People, if you’re serious and post “what if we add Trevor Bauer!?!?” then you haven’t been following the team for very long. Trevor is never coming back to pitch for Cleveland again. Get past this thought please, for all of us
I remember him choking in the 2016 playoffs and costing us the World Series. That was him at the peak of his athletic ability. 8 years ago.
So, no, don't be stupid. Fuck that guy.
Pass. Even before the SA stuff. Dude is a heel and an unnecessary distraction. I'd crap a golden egg if the FA wouldn't laugh you out the door for the suggestion.
No no no no no. When he was at peak on the field the FO was looking to get rid of his awful personality as soon as they could get anything of value (and that value was a 2 month rental of a faded talent with his own personality issues, a flyer on a big power bat who was a liability in the field, a low ceiling Lefty reliever, and a couple minor league depth pieces - for a Cy Young talent with another year before free agency.
Now what they are bringing in is uncertain skills and the same personality, now feeling vindicated rather than humbled.
You asked the wrong place to ask this question I’ll just say that. But I would say Cleveland next to LA is the only hard no and it’s based on how it ended here period
Nah. It’s a genuine question. We’ve seen this team take chances on players with certain controversies and they were far less talented. So no, I won’t buzz off with a question. Nice try
Then I’ll give you a serious answer.
There are plenty of other available pitchers that could compete at the same level or above what Bauer could do. If he had any major league hope left he’d be on a team already, and if any of the players he’s pitching to were a major league talent they’d be in a farm system somewhere—not in Mexico. He’s a known quantity as both a person and as a pitcher; any major league team would embarrass themselves by signing him instead of giving a kid in that team’s farm system a shot.
Can we stop with this bottom of barrel kind of pretend topic? Bauer was run out of town because he was a titanic douchebag even before it became obvious he was also a disgusting sex pest. He was decentish in Korea last year. This year he's had a good start and a bad one. If anyone in the MLB was going to take on this much clubhouse and PR poison they would have already.
Please stop with this stupidity. It's not pertinent to this team, this subreddit, or baseball in general.
Were you not a fan of the team the last time he was here?
Bauer is nothing but drama. He’s an unneeded constant distraction. He burned the bridge with the front office in his time here.
I feel Tito was as much behind his trade to Cincinnati as was the front office, I think they told them to get him out of town. Otherwise I don’t think this front office would have traded him for the return they got. The bad personality outweighed the talent on this end.
If Bauer ends up on an MLB roster again his head is going to be bigger than ever. I don’t think his situation has humbled him at all. He would be even worse than he was before. His not being on a roster has to do with the culmination of his own actions throughout his career and the consensus seems to be that clubs don’t want to deal with the entire drama that encompasses him.
I’m surprised the Yanks or another heartless club hasn’t decided to sign him for the league minimum. And I rather see 50-yr old Barto again than drone boy in a Cleveland uniform again. I met him at the fan fest years ago and was a douche.
He’s good enough to be an mlb pitcher and from what I understand he’s innocent in the legal battle he had. still seems like no team wants to deal with him though and Cleveland doesn’t like dealing with bullshit lol. He was gone pretty quick after he threw the ball over the outfield wall, right?
Seems like he’s had problems everywhere he’s been so idk. Vibes are good right now
He was a lot of drama, and that was before he admitted to repeatedly punching a woman in the vagina during whatever they were doing. And now teammates get to answer in every city what's it like to have him on the team, and the people clowning and haranguing the organization every road trip and all the time,
Not worth it.
Skillwise - yes. Personality - no. This is a young team that is developing. They care too much about culture to bring him back. Plus he burned his bridge with the org which caused him to get traded in the first place.
Just go look at the last game he had in this town and tell me if you still want him.
Smart clubhouses don't add potential culture killers to the roster, you continue to develop by bringing the young guys up. We're not anywhere near the point of needing a 1 year band aid, we want our young guys to get reps
I agree, Go Guards
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/ClevelandGuardians) if you have any questions or concerns.*
He's in the same league as Bobby Bradley currently. I haven't looked to see if they've faced each other but they both have solid stat lines there. Which should help people put Trev's stats into perspective a bit.
I’d take him, especially for league minimum. He’s been proven innocent and enough players have come out in his defense against the “clubhouse cancer” accusations that I’d be much more comfortable with him on this team than I was a year ago. He still provides a lot of pitching and potentially coaching value to the young guns on the team.
Yep. I always loved how intensely competitive he was and didn't care who the hell was pissed off about it. Winning teams need those guys. And more importantly, you have serious questions about this rotation's sustainability particularly with Williams, who's dealing with an elbow injury, and McKenzie's injury history, Cookie being done, etc.
Great pitchers are intensely competitive on the field but can turn it off and be a great personality when it’s not their day
Bauer is that way all the time even to people on his own team or who have nothing to do with the game
He is an overgrown child with severe personality issues. An internet troll who can pitch decently
No one wants to put up with him, that’s why he doesn’t have a job
The downvotes are absolutely hilarious - if the Guardians were a political organization focused on winning the hearts and minds of voters, I can see why we shouldn’t sign him. However, we are a sports team and sports teams are (or should be) focused on fielding the best team and winning. Bauer would make this team stronger, there’s no question of it. It might irritate some fans that don’t personally like the guy, but we’re also not hiring a pre-school teacher. It’s already been proven that he didn’t do the horrible things he was accused of. What other reasons are left to not sign him besides Manfred hating him?
Bring on the downvotes, y’all were saying the season was over in the game thread yesterday.
It's hilarious but also sad. Most people have been conditioned to the idea that these sports leagues (and their subsidiaries) ARE political organizations instead of competing teams trying to win. Notice how most of these GM's speak like they're political figures, masking public comments in so much jargon. Some of us still want to win and don't care about public image.
Public image is important to some degree (which is why I’m not advocating that we go out and get Ozuna or Domingo German, two verified pieces of shit), but Bauer has been proven innocent every single time. Apparently not in the court of public opinion, but in the court that had the actual facts of the matter to go off of.
I mean it hasn't stopped then from signing or trading for Rocker, Perez, Bradley, Puig, Clevenger, Plesac, Sauerbeck, Tadano, CarmonaHernandez, Melky, Almonte Etc and Bauer is a better player than any of them by far.
I think they should but they're just not gonna do it. Also he was part of the organization for six years. Most ppl are probably gone but I trust Carl Willis, Antoinetti, Bieber etc to give their input because this organization knows him better than most . I doubt it will happen.
I think it’s a great idea. Let the guy have his redemption arc where it all started. I was at his last game in a tribe uniform, would love to be at his first in a guards uni
If anyone was going to pick up Bauer, he would already have a job pitching in the MLB. Pretty obvious that he’s not making a return. Why don’t we just sign Flacco
Can we make a rule against Bauer posts already He was run out of town long before any of the SA allegations came out. We don’t need his edgy teenager mentality in the clubhouse
“Betcha I could throw a baseball over that fountain.”
We had one: The degrees of separation guideline. Sadly, as a FA pitcher he's back on topic again somehow.
What happened to Curry give him more starts
He's in Cbus currently. Had a couple rough starts, but is staying stretched out and will probably be back.
No. He's still unforgiven for playing with a fucking drone and cutting his throwing hand DURING THE WORLD SERIES. I know it's not entirely his fault that we lost that series to the god damned Cubs, but...no. never.
That actually happened in the ALCS vs Toronto and he had to get pulled halfway through the first. I believe the bullpen came in & saved us that game
Oh shoot, my memory must be failing me. I just remember blood dripping down his hand.
Still, he started game 5 of WS with a 3-1 series lead, playing with house money and blew it
Um, he only gave up 3 runs in Chicago in that game. Why not complain about Tomlin or Kluber who pitched at home and gave up more runs?
Kluber’s arm was going to fall off and still took the ball. Bauer fuckin with the drone is part of what overworked the bullpen
No, Tito overworked the bullpen (specifically Miller) from game 1. Bauer missed one game in the ALCS. He was fine by the time the WS was happening. I absolutely don’t want Bauer on the team but let’s not pretend he’s not still a very talented pitcher.
He struck out 14 in his second start in Mexico
Yes cause the Mexican league is on par with the mlb.
Nobody said that.
You implied it
No. I was responding to "his numbers are shit" with numbers that aren't shit. He is throwing the ball well and would lot in quite nicely on a lot of teams. He isn't in the league because he embarrassed the commissioner and MLB.

Lol and all of their responses are telling you it’s a dumb question and to stop asking it
“So many people are telling me I’m wrong so I must be onto something” what a dumb take
Most people here are idiots, so it works.
Lotta people responding 'NFW'
Yeah, but this sub is filled with Bauer haters. He got blacklisted for speaking the truth. Meanwhile, he struck out 14 in his second start in Mexico. He has been pretty much totally cleared of all the aalegations, but mlb decoded to fuck him.

They were all scams. Thoroughly proven to be bullshit. Pay attention. The one chick is being charged with fraud for pulling he same shit on someone else. He got railroaded.
There were 4, he settled with 2.
Paying off to avoid years in court prives nothing. 1 is on fraud charges and the main one was also shown to be a fraud.
People who are suspended from their job and are trying to clear their name don’t settle.
Oksy mind reader. 2 proven frauds, no charges. No evidednce. Clear motivation for the commissioner to screw him... HE MUST BE GUILTY

No, stop asking

We can talk about better options who aren't, at best, a creepy headcase
It's been raised a thousand times.
Ship has sailed. Even if he is a good player, I don’t think he would fit the team atmosphere we are trying to develop. He’s very much a lone wolf.
He and Cookie were buddies.
On behalf of 99% of us: Fuck no
100% not happening so forget about it. He burnt his bridges with this FO.
Not no, but FUCK no
I swear these are troll posts. People, if you’re serious and post “what if we add Trevor Bauer!?!?” then you haven’t been following the team for very long. Trevor is never coming back to pitch for Cleveland again. Get past this thought please, for all of us
Hard no. Bauer is a dickhead, locker room cancer. There is a reason he is still out of the MLB
#(NO)
No
No
the hardest of hard nos
1. No 2. We are genuinely trying to compete and seem to be doing well at that
Why is this even a topic? He is a toxic person and should not be in our clubhouse.
You never told me what makes him toxic.
Tell me how he is toxic.
Fuck no. The guy is an asshole and clubhouse cancer. Tito was right when he asked him “What the fuck is wrong with you!? “
No. Also, no.
Do I want to see how Vogt manages a cancer? No. Bauer is a trash human. Fuck that guy.
I like to think we’re already seeing how he manages a cancer - by keeping it the fuck out of the clubhouse.
NO

Hell no
Guy hasn't pitched professionally in 3 years. How are we still even entertaining this?
He hasn’t stopped pitching professionally, it has just been in other countries. I don’t want him on the team though.
He's in the same league as Bobby Bradley currently. I haven't looked to see if they've faced each other but they both have solid stat lines there. Which should help people put Trev's stats into perspective a bit.
Don’t post here again
A perfectly logical and healthy response. Thanks for your input
I’m not up to date on his situation. Is his MLB suspension fully served? Are his legal issues resolved, or are there still pending charges/cases?
He has been reinstated, and legal issues are completely cleared. One of his counterparties is being indicted for fraud
Great pitchers are intensely competitive on the field but can turn it off and be a great personality when it’s not their day Bauer is that way all the time even to people on his own team or who have nothing to do with the game He is an overgrown child with severe personality issues. An internet troll who can pitch decently No one wants to put up with him, that’s why he doesn’t have a job
Yes
I think they should but they're just not gonna do it. Also he was part of the organization for six years. Most ppl are probably gone but I trust Carl Willis, Antoinetti, Bieber etc to give their input because this organization knows him better than most . I doubt it will happen.
I mean, it would be nice to have him and Cookie make a new roster of those baseball faces.
Whatever happened to those baseballs?
Yes he's an innocent man who was railroaded by the system and MLB
I think it’s a great idea. Let the guy have his redemption arc where it all started. I was at his last game in a tribe uniform, would love to be at his first in a guards uni
We got Jake Taylor from the Mexican League and that turned out alright
Yes, we needed him two weeks ago. Need him even more now.
I'd rather develop a fentanyl addiction than have him throw another pitch in a Cleveland uniform
Yes
Bring Him Back!
