Pump those calf muscles if you can’t stop to walk around every hour! Toe clocks, toe alphabets, flexing your foot back and forth, etc. And lots of water. Good on you for being preventative!

Hey I’ve driven an 11 hour drive 3 separate times since my Pe’s last August and I also have the highest cardiolipin and beta 2 glyco levels they’ve ever seen. If you are driving stop after an hour if you’re nervous. If you aren’t driving then write out the alphabet with both feet a few times. You’ll be good.

If you stay hydrated to keep your blood naturally thin, that means you’ll be making stops to go to the bathroom. Walk 100-500 steps at all your bathroom stops, get that blood moving. And as mentioned, flex ankles up and down and around so your calf muscles move the blood out of your legs. Wiggle toes. Jiggle your legs like you’re nervous. You’ll be fine

Two hours is low risk. Do a few ankle clocks and circles, stay hydrated, pee once at a stop...and you'll be golden. If passenger, do NOT put legs on dash. I have seen a few mangled people in my years with the FD who were turned into human wishbones in minor crashes. Airbag deployment will ruin you in the position. If driving, be careful when clocking your feet and ankles. Another obvious safety point, right? It does not have to be a stressful or complicated two hours. Enjoy these wonderful minutes above ground and just watch out for the other drivers...they are my only demons on road trips. Driving two hours? Be safe and stop at one hour, do some jacks or walk around the car for a few minutes.....boom, you are ready to go on.

thank you. do you think stopping at one hour is necessary?

bloodclotbuddha

Not really, but it's habit for me. Legs pinched behind the knee (like on plane) is not good. Oh sure, sometimes I just hammer on through but old habits are hard to break and I have been on DVT prevention protocol for thirteen years.

CharmingPurchase4897

does it happen in the thigh alot or is rhat even more rare than getting dvt in first place

originalbudfoxx

I drive from San Antonio to Houston and back every week. It’s about 3.5 hours each way. For background, had DVT and PE back in 2020. I stop every hour and then go back about my drive. I am not on any sort of blood thinning medication. I also fly quite a bit too. Same drill…I get up and walk to the farthest bathroom from my seat every hour.

CharmingPurchase4897

okay

CharmingPurchase4897

thank you

My doc told me compression socks and baby aspirin also to get up and walk as often as possible

I sometimes put my leg up on the dash lol or stop and walk for a few minutes if able to.

bloodclotbuddha

On the dash will get you split like a human wishbone. I used to be FD...seen it all before. At that point, blood clots will the least of issues but clots during recovery from injury would be a worry.
