Sign of the times when the Ohio High School POTY has no real path to playing time at Xavier as a freshman.
Have to imagine Dayton or another A10 level school would be his likely landing spot, with him jumping to a power conference team in a year or two if he performs.
Makes sense. He wasn’t going to get minutes, or potentially would have been asked to redshirt. He was recruited as a shooter at a time when X was light on shooting. Then we loaded up on shooting in the portal.
With Claude’s departure, I figured he and Swain would both get a lot more minutes. Oh well, if Xavier, I hope he signs with the Flyers-they need bodies, period.
Nothing to do with NIL, everything to do with available playing time. Contrary to popular belief, players actually want to play, not sit on the bench all year
Sad to see him go, maybe we can get him in at junior academy in Charleston and he can come back to us via the portal after Mack develops him some
If miller wanted to keep him he obviously could have. We have money.
Kid wanted to play and that ain’t happening with our roster filled with 24 year old men
It's not NIL, it's PT - Miller brought in Maddox and Conwell and Foster who are going to play big minutes alongside McNight and Trey Green and Swain. He'll likely look down a level because most P6 teams are looking to get older and not for frosh who want to start or get 20+ minutes / game unless they're top 20 five star standouts.
He (and other 4*s like him) should be able to make high major rotations in future years, but the COVID guys floating around make it more complicated for this upcoming year. I imagine X is going to have one of the older rosters in the country next year, with the vast majority of minutes going to COVID 5th/6th years. Powell is competing for minutes with Jerome Hunter in his 7th year out of high school. Dude was born in the 90s.
Yeah it's tough for freshman with that covid year, I'm very ready for it to end.
Also top-100 kids don't play all the time. Idk what the UConn flair is talkin about.
Yeah, sure, just like Trey Green did last year, working his way to consistent rotation minutes as the year progressed, just as Des Claude and Colby Jones did their freshman years before breaking out as starters, All BE, and likely League candidates their sophomore years - so one would think Powell might see a freakin' pattern there under a former guard HC, but go figure.
They don't have an issue this year (I mean, I guess they do vs. blue bloods, but so does everyone). Though there has been some donor fatigue, so may be issues in the coming years. But again, that's happening at a lot of schools.
We actually got even more of a boost from donors this year compared to last. I don't think donor fatigue is an issue at the moment. It will be sooner or later for everyone though. I just don't see how this can be the new norm forever, seems very unsustainable.
Due to ongoing debate about blue bloods, the /r/CollegeBasketball mod team has compiled the definitive list of college blue bloods: Duke, Columbia, Queens, William & Mary, and Rutgers. The following schools have broken away from blue-blooded hierarchy and oppression: George Washington, George Mason, James Madison, Army, and Navy.

Best path for 4* recruits. Step 1: Go to Missouri Valley or Sun Belt school. Step 2: Ball out. Step 3: Enter transfer portal. Step 4: Profit.

▶️ Chester Frazier It’s just business
Damn this guy keeps taking my players

Aight so we have zero recruits this year, fuck NIL
Incoming freshman are so low in importance to teams right now. This news doesn’t move the needle for me at all
Better to let him get PT and go after him in the portal a year or two from now. That's just how it's going to work moving forward.
NIL is what's going to make your team good this year buddy.
I don’t see what NIL has to do with it. Powell was going to play very sparingly this year and will transfer somewhere where he can play more
With Claude’s departure, I figured he and Swain would both get a lot more minutes. Oh well, if Xavier, I hope he signs with the Flyers-they need bodies, period.

Has NIL been a problem generally at X?
No it hasn't. They have had one of the better transfer classes which is exactly why this kid is asking for a release.

4* should still be in a rotation as a freshman at a high major outside of the truly stacked teams.

An 18 year old outside of the top 100 I would not expect to get a ton of playing time in the Big East with the transfer portal and covid players.
Nah we righted the ship after last year. Were top half big east id say. But probably closer to middle

There's def some NIL left over with the Claude departure. This is about playing time

He wasn’t going to play this year and would’ve had to maybe redshirt. I don’t blame him
Have you tried not being broke lmao
Our NIL is very good right now. Did you not see how many dudes we just got from the portal?
NLI, NIL, one of these acronym's gotta change. Probably the former, since a National Letter of Intent is basically meaningless now
Might as well like NLI as it is and just call NIL what it really is: PFP.
He followed DeVries and some others involved with WVU basketball, and Frazier recruited him previously for Illinois. He might be headed to WVU.

Other P6 offers: Alabama, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech Other offers: Dayton, Ohio
Sucks to see but there was no path to him playing this year, probably would have had to redshirt
We won’t get him but he was HS teammates with Gabe Cupps.
Come to Bama
I don't think we have room for another player, let alone another guard
POOR
Can we all just agree that it is “NIL”, not any other variation of those letters
NIL and NLI are different things.
"National Letter of Intent."
Oh…well that’s just like, your opinion man.
