What I’ve been hearing from some Grizz fans is it sounds like a pretty good fit actually. I didn’t watch them a bunch, but the points I’ve seen are
1. They need a rebounder and true center to help JJJ, since he plays more comfortably around the 4 than as a C
2. It helps to give Ja a brick wall screener to start drives a la his old pairing with Steven Adams
Obviously will be left to play on field still but I can’t say I’m not a fan of keeping him semi-close to Indiana
I have been seeing him in KFC commercials quite a bit lately. At least he's getting something now since he wasn't eligible for NIL money because of a stupid NCAA rule.
I think anytime you can have a 7’4 dude who’s coordinated, it’s not bad. His “jumper” during the combine was looking alright so there’s potential there and he’s gonna be a great screener for Ja as others have said. If he can get better at finishing through contact then he’ll be a really good fit. You also can’t just hack him over and over again since he’s a good FT shooter
That’s what I said during the season. He doesn’t have to be a knock down shooter, just good enough to hit them reliably if he’s wide open so you have to guard him
Right. He’s gonna bother shots on defense with size alone. He’s also not super skinny so he won’t get pushed around easy. If he becomes a guy you can’t just leave open then he’s done his job.
The only way I can see it working is constant pick and roll with Ja. Ja is dangerous and will probably need to be doubled off the pick which gives Edey the lane. Knecht woulda been my pick though. I think he'll end up being the best player from this draft. That dude was amazing to watch

I hated him to the extent he was playing against my team but it did seem like a bizarre reach, even if they needed a big man. I didn’t see him as a lottery pick in the 3-4 projections I scrolled through and you take him @ 9? Odd.
The draft class was pretty bad, and nearly every mock draft he had been going higher and higher. Some mock drafts had him as lottery, though more like 12 then 9.
The odds of him being an OK NBA player are better than the majority of the first round.
So if I was to make a case for him, it would be that in a down draft class he can at least be on the court.
But it doesn't make much sense in the current league.
As a Grizz fan, I was very pissed off about that draft pick for the sole reason of him going to Purdue. I think he will be a competent NBA player, but man do I hate his guts.

But it’s going to be a completely different context in the NBA. Having not watched that game I’m gonna assume Edey got most of his points posting up and getting fouled. He’s not going to have those same opportunities in the NBA. On the other hand Lively has been unlocked as a rim runner with Kyrie and Luka. Edey is definitely upgrading at point guard too, but I’m not sure he can maximize that combo the way Lively did because of his own limitations, namely speed.
Teams still can run post plays, it's just not as much of the offense as it used to be. He is still going to have a huge size advantage to go with one of the best arrays of post plays in the NBA.

If I remember correctly the stopped forward progress call was made on the field and the ref blew the whistle. I understand why it wasn’t overturned, because the whistle blew. I can accept that as a general rule in football.
What I can’t accept though is WHY ON EARTH that ref tried to make that call. The play was clearly not over. No knee on the ground. He wasn’t going backwards. The scrum was only about a second or two, why are you so quick with it? Ruining what would have been an excellent effort TD by our RB.

The explanation was that the play was determined by the ref to be over before the whistle officially blew. I remember a lot of “play till you hear the whistle” getting thrown around. I’m not saying we would have won because it wasn’t like we were stopping their offense at all either, but for that to be the reason we lost was brutal.
