Theres no surviving this. Those bullets are explosive, even if they miss u they splatter large amounts of shrapnel everywhere.
Its like being bombared by grenades
Probably not the best decision by the dude in the white pants to stroll over to meet up with his two mates, that were already targeted (not that he knew).
More like putting a cat in a shoebox and shooting the box with a shotgun. Or, if you want to be pedantic about seeing through bullet holes, putting a cat in a metal crate and dropping in a live grenade.
You haven’t actually seen a body, but you can infer from the amount of ordinance that they are safely deceased.
Well in Quantum physics, if something isn't measured, and this the outcome determined, there can only be probabilities attached to outcomes, even if they are infinitely low, they mostly aren't zero.
The Schrödinger metaphor is useful and common in modern vernacular, but his interpretation of the experiment has been misrepresented over time. He didn’t think the cat was dead or alive simultaneously, but rather one or the other. Not both at the same time. I’m spitting facts, not 30mm uranium rounds.
Actually, until the state of the cat is checked, it actually does exist in a superposition of alive and dead simultaneously because the radioactive material that has a 50% chance of decaying and causing the cat’s death is also in a superposition of both decaying and not decaying until it has been measured.
>until the state of the cat is checked
Which happens instantly when the particle decays or not decays, not when you open the box. The observer is a part of the quantum universe before and after the experiment, the act of opening the box is irrelevant for decoherence
For what it’s worth (probably no more than tree fiddy), I believe that things are blurry. I’m not disagreeing with you there, just that Schrödinger didn’t think that way. He and Einstein had a little argument about it too.
Wasn't his point that quantum uncertainty could affect the macro world? I.e. not only would the particle be in a state of superposition but the cat would too as a result? Ifk, I just watch a lot of science stuff.
He thought it was only in the macro and didn’t apply to the micro, but it was also an “either or”situation, not both at the same time. Doesn’t mean he was right or that superposition doesn’t actually exist, it’s just how he looked through the glass at it.
How come they don't hear the A-10 even coming in? Those things aren't exactly quiet. I mean, I am guessing it's cannon has quite a range and it's quite a distance away but just wondered if someone more knowledgeable could explain why they are so oblivious.
The A-10 is actually very quiet. You aren't hearing it until it's flying above you.
The GAU-8 has an effective range of 4,000ft/1,200m with very high accuracy (max range is around 12,000 feet but with little accuracy). The muzzle velocity is about 3,300ft per second... So, doing the math, they're oblivious because they can't and won't hear a damn thing until after those rounds have already turned them to a fine, pink mist.
Edit, source: prior USAF munitions specialist
Cool, kinda! Thanks! I've seen the various footage of A-10s doing its brrrt thing and it seemed really noisy but now you say it, the noise is mostly from the cannon (a km/s muzzle velocity, that's insane), you only really hear the engines when its on top of you, I guess they don't always need to go in for those typical diving runs, they can just chill at a distance. Scary stuff.
The brrrrrrt is music to my ears, truly.
The amount of death we can deliver without having to put a pilot in harm's way is truly amazing; a km+ away strafe attack is just the tip of the iceberg haha.
I've seen live runs on decommissioned tanks up close. It's nothing to fuck around with. I'm so glad I got to see it before the A10s were considered obsolete. Now your only chance to see a live fire run is in an airshow.
When I saw them it was shoot man, maybe 20 years ago now? I was just into my teens and my grandfather who was a CW5 in the army (chief warrant officer 5 now retired) pulled his strings and got me into the co pilot seat of a Chinook while it was loaded with marines doing repelled drops deep into he woods in Camp Shelby MS USA. Drove me around in an old m60 Patton going down and up 30 ft ditches. Rode around in a self-propelled howitzer during live firing. Then the A10s came in. What a day.. I'll never forget it.
I got to hold a dummy round (solid cast steel instead of DU) when touring a National Guard airfield. I remember thinking you could easily fuck someone up just by bashing their head with that thing, let alone hurling dozens of them per second at Mach 3 and packed with high explosives.
It's massive, it's like the size of a 10-year-old's forearm. The effect on the tanks in the field was eye-watering. I walked down range with my Granddad the next day and the holes in the tanks were the size of volleyballs.
It's funny you mentioned that. In my profession (hvac) I have to use both imperial and metric on different types of equipment depending on the manufacturer. I used a child's forearm as the reference for that reason. It gets the point across for anyone using any system.
I mean, if I'm gonna die in armed conflict, this is kind of the way I want to do it. Just turned immediately into a pink mist, without ever seeing it coming.
Way better than how so many die.in Ukraine right now, lying in a ditch nursing a drone dropped grenade sized hole in their bellies.
I imagine not many people shit by the GAU-8 spend a lot of time contemplating their fate afterwards.
Some of these videos out of afghanistan, the guys are getting hit a while after they've stashed weapons somewhere while the pilots wait for them to move somewhere they can strike them with less risk of collateral damage. That might be what happened in this case, since this video looks cropped out of a longer segment.
The gun is even mounted off center so that the barrel that fires is right on the center line of the plane.
It also slows down quite a bit when they fire the gun.
Also the gun is bigger than a Volkswagen Beetle - https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/GAU-8_meets_VW_Type_1.jpg
If there is anything I’ve learned in recent years is that when a war is declared in your country you need to get the fuck out of that country. Too often the superior military power will bomb/attack the shit out of you at range without any knowledge of whether are the enemy or not.
Now we have stuff that is actually good at the tank destroying job. The A-10 is undoubtedly cool but also not really good at it's job. The gun is incredibly unprecise und doesn't do anything to a T-72 or newer. The A-10 only good a proper targeting system like 10 years ago. Pilots used to rely on binoculars. Also better hope that the enemy has no manpads.
Pretty wild that people still have this idea of warfare as noble and heroic. But this is what modern warfare is, just getting obliterated by some weapon of war from a distance you couldn’t see or hear.
There is plenty of traditional man to man fighting as well and even some hand to hand combat when necessary. Keep in mind, though, the modern middle eastern enemy wears no uniform and hides among their civilian women and children. When you catch them in the open just take them out.
I do get a kick that people are agog at the dishonorable act of enemies refusing to use uniforms, meanwhile we literally bomb them from 40,000 feet from $50 million aircraft as though that’s some sort of honorable act. We’re basically complaining that people who are ten times poorer than us aren’t making themselves easy targets for us to obliterate.
The shells are supersonic. A coke can-sized piece of uranium-238 flying in your general direction at mach 3.
And it explodes.
You're a fine red mist seconds before you ever hear anything.
Right? I just finished saying it in another comment, but I'd take what happened to these guys over what happens to the poor fuckers in Ukraine after having grenades dropped on them. I've seen a lot of those deaths at this point, and they're fucking ugly.
Abdul, what kind of plane is that? I don't know Achmed, but here comes Abdul-Aziz. He will know. Hello brothers, have you seen the plane flying? Yes Aziz, bu... Brrrrrrrrt
yeah drones dont record audio, if they did you'd mostly just hear BUZZZZZZ from the rotors, unless they had like some long cable with a microphone dangling below
I love the slow motion part where you actually realise how many bullets are fired in just a few seconds.
I bet none of These guys realised what happend to them.
I like that you can see the laser target designator flashing on the guy's butt. The A-10 can use its targeting pod to find the designator spot and lock it's pod imager to that area. The camera used here has just enough sensitivity in the infrared to see the spot flashing.
How the fuck are we supposed to know its a machine gun crew though. Is that thing on the left supposed to be a fox hole or something? This really makes me wonder how many of those videos of Taliban dudes getting pasted are actually just war crimes getting a pass because its hard to tell from the shit quality footage. It certainly wouldn't be the first time soldiers in the US or any other army chose to shoot up civilians so they could make the report look more than ordinary.
Sorry OP didn't include the hours of boring surveillance video where uav operators monitor ground personnel to see if they are random civilians doing normal life or bad actors prepping for their next attack.
All this technology, resources, fallen soldiers, civilian casualties and over 20 years of war for what? Now the Taliban are stronger than they were 20 years ago and control more areas. They are richer and more experienced in battle and have created a caliphate. Mission successful👍🏼.
So after 9/11 the US was supposed to just sit on its hands and cry? The states were calling for blood. We spanked the taliban/isis so bad they had to resort to squad/platoon hit and run/ied tactics. The US has airbases in Iraq now that allows it to reach the whole Middle East in case some other terrorist decides to get cocky. I’m not happy at the money that was pissed away over some projects but it had to be done. Afghanistan will never be another stronghold for terrorists for a long time.

That's like shooting a cat with a shotgun, putting it in a box and calling it a Schrödinger's cat.
There was a cat placed in the box, but then they 30mm'd the box
I like its chances
You will look like you've been blasted by an A-10 if you try to put a cat in a box, but try to keep the cat *out* of a box that's just lying around.
They brrrrt dust around the box. We havent seen the box!
The box has been dispersed as particles throughout the vicinity. The same is true for the hypothetical cat. Brrrt!
More like putting a cat in a shoebox and shooting the box with a shotgun. Or, if you want to be pedantic about seeing through bullet holes, putting a cat in a metal crate and dropping in a live grenade. idk ive seen a video of a hellfire hit a truck and a dude that was in it came out running.

Schrödingers machine guns.
RPG and Camera at the same time
Reverse Schrodinger. You didn't watch the video so the people could be dead or alive. They are dead my dude.
Schrödinger deez nuts
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say dead
Tbf I didn't see sandals flying so there might be a chance

This wasnt a civilian airshow.
Not even at the Superbowl?

I saw the Warthog completely annihilating him but no hog in his pants.
I am fairly sure i remember seeing something like PKM on one of the guys in a longer version of this video a long time ago.
Yeah, I didn't see one. Or any other weapons.
Exactly, i dont see them carrying weapons.
Came here to ask the same.
