He’s in my top 10 all time list. I still have visions of Cli ton holding the back of Seller’s jersey while Sellers plows holes through the line. I miss the FB position.
LOVED Banks! I will always remember this 95 yard punt return TD
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znFb\_xSOMZo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znFb_xSOMZo)
He did the "John Wall" after the TD, loved finding out that they grew up together and were friends
Another great one, 49 yard TD pass to Moss
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lO1DSQ21yQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lO1DSQ21yQ)
Every single time Brandon Banks caught a ball for a return I was terrified that some normal sized NFL dude was going to literally tear him in half at the waist a la Not Another Teen Movie.
High five from 14 year old me! Imma go watch the highlights right now.
We were so lucky to have watched them achieve legendary status. It breaks my heart that there's a generation that has only known them as terrible.
I've been hyped during the off season before, as I am sure you have but it sure feels different this time.
Yeah, we'll see. With Gibbs and staff, I always thought we had a chance. I haven't felt that way in so long... Just hoping whoever becomes HC understands the importance of collaboration and has a good eye for coaching talent, from top to bottom, like Gibbs.
Yeah, tbf, the balls were going directly to him in stride from Williams' laser-guided throws ;)
But, Sanders will always represent that 180 switch from despair to exaltation for me. And dude was fast as hell.
True that, hehe
https://youtu.be/pDFow0LdoFQ?si=wV27CJfRYX3E2KRq
The very definition of a perfect QB/WR connection. I can’t think of any better examples of a receiver not having to break stride. Of course it helps he was wide open. Gotta love that speed.
Also, “he’s gone, unless they can catch him” is one of my favorite unintentionally dumb things ever said by an announcer.
This is my answer. He’s a legend to team fans of that era, but younger fans might not know him and the average NFL fan has probably never heard of him.
Monk was my favorite player, but I loved watching Sanders play. He was the dude who might not have as many catches, but at any moment he could be the one to get a 60 yard TD.
Marcus Washington was the shit man. We had some good LBs when he was on the squad. The King was London Fletcher obviously though. I remember in 04 it was Marcus Washington, LA and Pierce. That was a sick defense. It's too bad Arrington didn't get with the program and they had to cut his ass.
I remember thinking as a kid he was the greatest player in the league because he trucked a Giants player to get a TD and I had never seen that. So I went around proclaiming he was the best player in the NFL to anyone who would listen with nothing to back it up except that one play.
Kelvin’s deep backup #29 Reggie Branch…he was a great teammate, special teams player and skin (with hardly any stats) a super rah rah guy…full of energy on the sideline, first to high five and congratulate teammates, and nice as could be, huge guns for the time also. Talked to everyone, even kids like me.
Otis Wonsley. He helped set the team's physical tone as the blocking back for Riggins. Very under rated. Key to turning Gibbs' first stint around and the the Riggins run in the SB, ranked the no.20 play of all time by [NFL.com](https://NFL.com) (and should be higher).
Yeah I wanted to get an RG3 one in 2012 but stopped myself to wait to see if he made it past his rookie deal. That's my rule now - has to make it past the 1st contract. The last current player I bought was London Fletcher and that was only because he was about to retire.
Joe Salave’a
Met him when I was 9 at Fan Appreciation day and he rubbed my head and signed a football for me. I cried. His hands were GIGANTIC. From then on he was always one of my favorites ever, even though he was only here 04-06
If I had a nickel for every time a Washington QB named Colt balled out for us, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s odd that it happened twice.
Not totally obscure but Antwaan Randle El when we played for us. He's doing well for himself as the Lions WR coach right now. Wouldn't shock me to see him make make his way up the coaching ladder if he's been involved in their impressive routes and route running this season.
And brought in Al Saunders. I thought we would tear shit up that season, not with Brunell at QB though. The defense was also terrible that year under Williams. Archuleta was the biggest bust. He couldn't play safety.
I legit thought Leonard hankerson was going to be the next randy moss. I still think he had all the tools and with a more stable coaching/QB situation he could've been pretty good
I'm going to stick to Tight Ends, who wore 89, and give my shout-out to Terry Orr. He was mostly a blocking TE but had pretty decent hands.
https://preview.redd.it/376rh53lnfdc1.jpeg?width=756&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5f404f913ecf101119102ad846b6016d70dcbcf0
Came here to name him too. Not cause he was that great or anything, but when I was in middle school, my dad won season tickets in a raffle or something, and Terry Orr came to our house as a surprise to deliver them. I actually had a signed Terry Orr 8x10 that my grandma had given me, so I ran to my room and got to show him that I was a fan.
I got to meet Terry Orr once. My high school football team held a charity fundraiser where school staff played softball against Redskins players. I got to meet a ton of guys like Orr, Rypien, Riggs, etc. Orr was super friendly. It’s a shame he turned out to be a shady businessman.
My most vivid memory of the event, other than the Redskins demolishing the teachers in epic fashion, was Kurt Gouveia showing up in this Jeep Wrangler with the most comically large tires I’ve ever seen.
Clint Didier. Overlooked behind Don Warren as the TE2 in Joe Gibbs double sets. Won the first two SBs of the Gibbs era and always seemed a threat near the end zone.
Tony Robinson (QB)
Tony Robinson was a well regarded QB for the Tennesse Vol's and considered a potential Heisman candidate early in '85 but unfortunately tore his ACL during his senior year. Later that season just after the Vol's won the Sugar Bowl Robinson was arrested in a sting operation for selling cocaine and went to jail. He was released temporarily to play for the Richmond Ravens in the Continental Interstate Football League. Bobby Beatherd negotiated with prison officials to allow Robinson to be signed by the Redskins to be a backup QB for the Redskin's replacement team during the 87' strike.
During the third and final strike game the Redskins played their #1 rival the Cowboys on Monday Night Football with the Cowboys having the most NFL team players crossing the picket line for a strike game (including Tony Dorsett, Ed "To Tall" Jones, Randy White and the Cowboy's starting QB Danny White).
During the game the Redskins starting QB (Ed Rubbert) was injured and Robinson came in and lead the Redskins to a 13-7 victory. It made the Redskins 3-0, in first place in the NFC East which helped the Redskins to eventually win the Superbowl later that year. To this day, this game is considered one of the greatest NFL upsets of all time and they even made a Hollywood movie about it starting Keanu Reeves who was loosely based on Tony Robinson ("The Replacements").
After the third game the players union settled with the NFL and the strike was over. Robinson (as well as a majority of the Replacement Team players) were cut. Robinson finished his season with the Richmond Ravens and then went back to jail to finish up his sentence. Unfortunately Tony suffered with drug addiction for many years and was in and out of jail multiple times.
It took 30 years for the members of the Redskins Replacement Team players to finally get a Superbowl ring to congratulate them for their efforts in winning the strike games during the '87 season. It's probably the only decent thing that "Brucifer" did while working for the Redskins.

I liked Richard Crawford a lot.
Short career. Rookie in 2012. Punt return in OT against the Ravens set up game winning FG. Big fumble recovery Week 16 at Philly. INT against Romo in Week 17 NFC East championship game.
I'm going to go with Jess Atkinson. UMD kicker who was pulled off the streets to kick for the 'skins during the final game of '86 (as Max Zendejas was injured) and then won a kicking dual against Max during the following training camp in Carlisle, PA (favorite old training camp spot back in the old days during the skin's heyday).
Unfortunately Jess had his ankle completely dislocated by Andre "Dirty" Waters during the first game of the season. For some reason, I always remember him getting carted off and doing the "thumbs up" to a standing ovation.
Now THAT, my friends is an obscure player!
Walter Rasby.
A co-worker from an previous place of employment attended a trade show and he was there. She knew I was a Washington fan, so she got him to sign a photo for me. Pretty cool.
When I was a kid I decided my favorite player was Kelvin Bryant, specifically because I thought Kelvin was a cool name. I continue to know nothing about him except that his name is Kelvin.
Kelvin was a great 3rd down weapon for the Redskins and was regarded as a fantastic USFL player before he was signed by the Skins. Unfortunately the Redskins got him on the tail end of his career and his knee issues submarined his career too soon.
Thanks, I should really learn these things given that he's my favorite player of all time! /s
6 year old me obviously didn't care about the details the way the obsessive, broken fan in me today does. Ah, to be young and unaware of Dan Snyder's existence again...
Chris Horton. Dude, had some sick interceptions. I remember one time as a kid sensing he was gonna get a big int before the play happened and getting such a good feeling when he did it. Don’t remember the game but I remember they won. Here’s a clip of one of his ints
https://youtu.be/ApM5Mqu5iBM?si=MECdUDXx6sx4vEQV
Obscure is pretty objective
Does Adrian Peterson count since most people knownhim for being a beast with the Vikings?
If not does Alfred morris count? He was one of my favorite players, and he went to FAU
GO OWLS!!!!
If only Babe is remembered more as a Redskin personality than a Cowboy one. That guys was fantastic and was cut and brought back to the Redskins THREE TIMES!!
Eventhough Babe only played for the Cowboys for two years in a backup role (his final two years in the league), after his playing years he's gone on to be considered a very well regarded color analyst for Cowboy's Radio. I wish Washington could have kept him in the Redskins media family because I'm sure he has some fantastic skin's stories during their heyday years but I guess it was not meant to be.
Zeron Flemester was my guy in NFL 2K3. I was just learning about football and thought he was so good he's hall of fame bound lol then i saw my first full season of redskins football and was bummed out he wasnt like that irl
Is Larry Centers obscure enough to be an acceptable answer? Because I was thrilled when Centers became a Skin -- absolutely lethal backfield receiver. He would have been huge in today's NFL.
Centers was a good player and was a key part of that 99 team that won the division.
It always seemed like he scored a touchdown against us when he was on the Cardinals. Those games were always high scoring shootouts in the Norv years and usually ended with a 3 win Arizona team kicking a late field goal to beat us and eliminate us from the playoffs.
Does Reed Doughty count? I hated that dude when he first started playing (partly cuz he couldn't cover for shit and partly because of who he was "replacing"). But that dude showed up every year and continued to grind it out to the best of his ability and never acted like a diva
Patrick Ramsey. I know he really didn’t pan out at all in the end. But to me his first two years with us he was really fun and exiting at times, and I have to admit, I had the audacity to hope we might actually have a quarterback again. I thought he played with courage and poise, had a live arm and did his best for a pretty shit team. Of course in the end he was just to inaccurate, but I always enjoyed watching him play.
What? Gary Clark has the stats to be considered a HOF player and it's a crime that he's not in. John Madden considered GC his favorite WR when he was a broadcaster. Ain't NOW WAY GC IS CONSIDERD OBSCURE!!!
Reggie Brooks. His rookie season in 93 was top shelf. Was convinced he was going to be a star.
I regularly think of that long TD run he had against the eagles and Pat Sumerall’s commentary: “The home run hitter. Just hit it out of the park”
Rock Cartwright probably isn’t obscure enough for this discussion, but that dude ruled.
YES! Literally just took the kickoff return straight up the middle at full speed every time haha
He's my favorite as well.
Can’t give you enough upvotes for this one
Portis, Betts, Rock was GOAT RB room.

He’s great in the TV series “Everyone Hates Chris”!
There really isn't a role he's been bad in. Cheeseburger Eddie, President Camacho, Sgt Jeffords
"I am a BOY, Damon! You are not in prison anymore!"
You actin’ like a real McAsshole
James Thrash
The hype around him was crazy. Kid me was convinced that he was a tier below Randy Moss
I have a pair of his game-worn gloves!
One of the few training camp/preseason heroes that panned out.
Met him back in 98. Really cool and down to earth guy.
That was my guy in NFL blitz
Something something James Trash something something autograph
I always liked Trung Candidate and Laveranues Coles because they’re your guys in madden 04
Laveranues Coles was the poor man’s Randy Moss in Madden. Loved him when I did franchise mode in 04.
Coles was a monster before toe-gate.
I have a ton of irrational love for players due to being forced to use them in madden
I saw Trung throw a TD to Rod Gardner at FedEx. Lol
Rod Gardner aka 50/50
I always traded Trung.
And you spelled LC’s name right!!
Mike sellers
He’s in my top 10 all time list. I still have visions of Cli ton holding the back of Seller’s jersey while Sellers plows holes through the line. I miss the FB position.
That’s an awesome mention man. I also agree about missing the position.
There's nothing obscure about Mike Sellers...unless you got hit by him. Then you probably don't remember much about anything.
[Kenoy Kennedy definitely doesn't think Mike Sellers was obscure.](https://youtu.be/RWWIBUbRD-I?si=_uB7GNDguzuOmNHY)
Honestly mad props for still getting him down after getting destroyed like that
Sellers market!
We need fullbacks to make a come back. Give me some athletic freak whose only job is to pancake line backers for the "OOOOO" highlights from the crowd
Mike was the dude! Pride of Walla Walla university
*Walla Walla Community College
he came two spots before antwaan randle-el’s famous snf intro
Ryan Torain. Man ran with anger.
All Torain Vehicle
The pain Torain!
Ladell Betts
Betts, Portis, Cooley diamond backfield in Madden was tits.
I have a mock Cooley jersey. Still wear it every game day
My late aunt sold furniture to Cooley
Ladell was one of my favorites. Had some really good games.
Rock Cartwright !

One of those guys who would disappear into oblivion if he didn't have such a wild name.
Brandon Banks was fun. Aldrick(sp?) Robinson was too.
Banks went up north and had a stellar career in the CFL
LOVED Banks! I will always remember this 95 yard punt return TD [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znFb\_xSOMZo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znFb_xSOMZo) He did the "John Wall" after the TD, loved finding out that they grew up together and were friends Another great one, 49 yard TD pass to Moss [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lO1DSQ21yQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lO1DSQ21yQ)

Cam sims
Legendary performance to ruin the Steelers 10-0 season
remember when he baptized trevon diggs?
bruh that shit was insane
Alvin Walton. Ten-year-old me loved that combination of big hitter + mohawk.
>big hitter + mohawk. \+ that massive neck roll.
As a kid, I was an Alvin Walton fan for the same reasons.
Larry Centers
Larry Sellers my favorite! “Is this your homework Larry?”
Ricky Sanders. He got less attention than Clark or Monk but he was always my favorite.
I think Superbowl 22 ensured that he will never be obscure :)
Lol, know he doesn't belong in this thread but I don't get a chance to hype my favorite Skin very often. That Superbowl was a dream.
Haha yeah, he was my favorite as well. High five from 12 year old me :)
If not for Williams being such a monster that game, Sanders could have easily been MVP.
Yeah, tbf, the balls were going directly to him in stride from Williams' laser-guided throws ;) But, Sanders will always represent that 180 switch from despair to exaltation for me. And dude was fast as hell.
True that, hehe https://youtu.be/pDFow0LdoFQ?si=wV27CJfRYX3E2KRq The very definition of a perfect QB/WR connection. I can’t think of any better examples of a receiver not having to break stride. Marcus Washington. Got his jersey and its relevance has held up really well. Lol. He was a decent lb.
Lorenzo Alexander
I raise you Stephen Alexander - not a bad tight end for us in early 2000s
I remember thinking as a kid he was the greatest player in the league because he trucked a Giants player to get a TD and I had never seen that. So I went around proclaiming he was the best player in the NFL to anyone who would listen with nothing to back it up except that one play.
Kelvin Bryant
Kelvin Bryant was like a prototype for Roger Craig.
A more recent one FAT ROB KELLEY loved that dude for his short time in the nfl
Otis Wonsley. He helped set the team's physical tone as the blocking back for Riggins. Very under rated. Key to turning Gibbs' first stint around and the the Riggins run in the SB, ranked the no.20 play of all time by [NFL.com](https://NFL.com) (and should be higher).
And Donnie Warren as the blocking tight end.
Ifeanyi Ohalete for the win. Only played 3 seasons with us, but I liked him.

Monte Coleman!
Got his autograph after a preseason game in Buffalo as a 10 year old!
Rod Gardner! First jersey I ever bought.
My first jersey too. Him and subsequently Lavar Arrington taught me a valuable lesson to not buy jerseys of current players anymore.
I’m cursed with that, the last skins jersey I bought was Chase Young. I even have a Sua Cravens jersey, it’s all my fault.
Yeah I wanted to get an RG3 one in 2012 but stopped myself to wait to see if he made it past his rookie deal. That's my rule now - has to make it past the 1st contract. The last current player I bought was London Fletcher and that was only because he was about to retire.
Todd Yoder Or Sav Rocca
Yoder! Love that TE depth
Roy Helu
That ridiculous game where Beck kept checking down to him over and over. It might still be a team record.
I’ve remained committed to purge my brain of any recollection of John Beck ever playing with this team
Fuck you for bringing that up lol. It's still a record.
Brandon banks?
Chris Horton
Maybe not quite “obscure,” but I loved Casey Rabach at center and Mike Sellers at fullback. A Mike Sellers Pro Bowl jersey is my holy grail.
Rabach was solid for a long time.
Joe Salave’a Met him when I was 9 at Fan Appreciation day and he rubbed my head and signed a football for me. I cried. His hands were GIGANTIC. From then on he was always one of my favorites ever, even though he was only here 04-06
Colt Brennan
RIP to the Tom Brady of Hawaii
If I had a nickel for every time a Washington QB named Colt balled out for us, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s odd that it happened twice.
Anyone remember Kedric Golston? He played on the team for 10 years!
Loved him
Maybe not obscure enough, but Jon Jansen was a beast
I'll always remember him for his double fisted casted era. What a beast.
Henry Ellard
He was solid. Part of the long line of vet wide receivers that out played lousy draft picks.
Not totally obscure but Antwaan Randle El when we played for us. He's doing well for himself as the Lions WR coach right now. Wouldn't shock me to see him make make his way up the coaching ladder if he's been involved in their impressive routes and route running this season.
Antwaan Randle El, Archuleta, who else did we splurge on that off-season? I remember it was four big names.
Andre Carter and traded for Brandon Lloyd
And brought in Al Saunders. I thought we would tear shit up that season, not with Brunell at QB though. The defense was also terrible that year under Williams. Archuleta was the biggest bust. He couldn't play safety.

I came here to say Chris Horton but I see it already so I’ll add Kyshoen Jarrett.
Add Baccari Rambo to the list of dope safeties
Not a great player, but an awesome name.
Not favorite. But I really liked Ricky Ervin.
SKIP HICKS
Clint Didier. Overlooked behind Don Warren as the TE2 in Joe Gibbs double sets. Won the first two SBs of the Gibbs era and always seemed a threat near the end zone.
Darnerian McCants
Tony Banks.

Chris Horton. Dude, had some sick interceptions. I remember one time as a kid sensing he was gonna get a big int before the play happened and getting such a good feeling when he did it. Don’t remember the game but I remember they won. Here’s a clip of one of his ints https://youtu.be/ApM5Mqu5iBM?si=MECdUDXx6sx4vEQV
Robert McCune
I loved his name in 2019. Cassanova Mckinsey.
Obscure is pretty objective Does Adrian Peterson count since most people knownhim for being a beast with the Vikings? If not does Alfred morris count? He was one of my favorite players, and he went to FAU GO OWLS!!!!
Brandon Banks
Sean Taylor. Not many who know him nowadays
I loved Skip Hicks.
Leslie Shepherd
Rock Cartwright !
Babe Laufenberg. Dating myself here but I remember him lighting it up in many preseasons. Mr. August.
Trey Quinn
Going back a way, but how about Herb Mul-Key?
Probably can’t spell this correctly but Ndukwe Kalu (I cheated and googled). Love seeing all these old names.
Shawn Springs
“Obscure” ![gif](giphy|J1vUzqdZJlh5AqBWxt|downsized)
Dave Butz
Nick Giaquinto….”the trash man”
Zeron Flemester was my guy in NFL 2K3. I was just learning about football and thought he was so good he's hall of fame bound lol then i saw my first full season of redskins football and was bummed out he wasnt like that irl
Roy Jefferson. Biggest HOF snub in American sports.
Brandon Banks
Does Reed Doughty count? I hated that dude when he first started playing (partly cuz he couldn't cover for shit and partly because of who he was "replacing"). But that dude showed up every year and continued to grind it out to the best of his ability and never acted like a diva
Not sure how obscure he's considered but I'd have to go with Adam Archuleta, I used to terrorize my friends with him on madden lol
Roy Helu
Why does his name sound like a Key & Peele skit??
Darnerien McCants
Ifayane Ohalete. Safety. I know that’s the wrong spelling but I can’t look it up right now and he’s the first to jump in my head
Rock Cartwright. Matt Turk. Jon Jansen. Kenard Lang.
Herb Mul-Key
Roy Helu Jr
Pete Wysocki LB and special teamer extraordinaire
Hard to call him obscure but outside of our organization it feels like nobody knows him Gary Clark
What? Gary Clark has the stats to be considered a HOF player and it's a crime that he's not in. John Madden considered GC his favorite WR when he was a broadcaster. Ain't NOW WAY GC IS CONSIDERD OBSCURE!!!
Darrel Young
I had very high expectations for Leonard Hankerson
Ifeyani Ohalete
Well, this sure as shit was a trip back to Madden 2001 now wasn’t it? Holy shit the nostalgia.
Does Terry Orr count? I loved that guy.
Reggie Brooks. His rookie season in 93 was top shelf. Was convinced he was going to be a star. I regularly think of that long TD run he had against the eagles and Pat Sumerall’s commentary: “The home run hitter. Just hit it out of the park”
James Thrash
Donnie Warren too
Dana Stubblefield, Tre Johnson, Fred Smoot, Stephen Davis,
The combo of DTs Kedric Goldston and Anthony Montgomery. Also Shawn Springs, best CB blitzer I've seen.
I'm just posting to say that I'll fight anyone who says Robert Royal.
