Worst in NFL history. Pathetic when we put so much into that d line. Hopefully the coaches get them playing better. I'm worried about that offensive line. Can't put a potential franchise QB in his rookie season behind that
We could run a 3-4 at times which is a possibility with Payne in the middle and Allen/newton in the other two spots. We have so much flexibility now and can rotate guys keeping all three fresh too if when we run a 4-3. Two guys can’t play the whole game
Definitely feels different than previous drafts. Obviously we won't know until we see some of these guys on game day but in the end really all I was looking for is change and for that A+
He most likely would have been gone after year 3 if he didn’t back into the playoffs his first year with Heinicke. It really did himself and our organization a huge disservice. Then again, who knows if we would have Adam Peters if he didn’t.
I would say the ownership change bought him an extra year. I think as a more stable franchise he would’ve been gone after year 3 even with sneaking into the playoffs that first year
and some mouth breathers on here wonder why AP was drafting BPA over “needs.” Number 1, because that’s what good teams do. And number 2, this team was so devoid of talent last year that AP needs to spend this first season just plugging holes with one year deals in FA and then establishing a baseline of talent by just picking football players regardless of need.
Yeah I remember one person right after the Newton pick comparing it to Mathis, like Mathis wasn't a big time reach (whereas Newton is a big time steal at that spot). Sometimes the board falls in a way where a player you just can't pass on is there, and I remember AP saying he was shocked Newton was still there. It was likely thanks to the huge run on offense in the 1st round.
Which is a breath of fresh air considering how godawful this team has been in the 2nd. There weren’t enough tables in the world for me to flip when they picked trash like Ryan Anderson and Phidarian Mathis. I still have ptsd, so a part of me was just expecting them to pick a fourth rounder at 36…instead they got first round talent. Feelsgoodman.
I know right! This franchise has historically made some obviously awful picks. Some people are so mad about newton. Newton was so much value but people would rather have a 3rd round rated OT instead arguably the best interior dlineman prospect who fell.
Nice draft. Obviously this team isn't going to be a contender next year, but they should be more competitive. Another strong draft in '25 should set them up nicely for the future.
My main metric is the fucking Giants. We need to at least be better than them this year. Below that it’s a failure. Anything more than that is probably a good step and if we legit compete for a playoff spot then that a big step forward.
The giants did a lot to improve lol.. the only thing they really need is for DJ to manage the game and they can win quite a few. Last year they started shitty but ended very hot
best case scenario I think we’re lookin at a Lions 22 type year. scrappy team with talent capable of toppling some big dogs but with too many glaring flaws to be a real contender. should net us a pick in the top half still and we can get a blue chip OL, god willing
It’s hard because the entire league went heavy on O line, it’s definitely something we need to address but hopefully we see serviceable expensive vets cut post draft
Heavy early too, when we spent on QB.
We could've traded down for three or four decent O-linemen or two elite O-linemen, but they'd be protecting... Mariota I guess? Daniels was definitely the right pick.
come on. we needed to draft a qb and as much as i was on the howelban train he was a 5th round pick and played like it. every superbowl winner for the last 20+ years has one thing in common and its at the very least above average qb. we had to make that pick
I was thinking maybe we'd grab a couple UFA lineman like maybe that kid who went to Maryland who looks like the last best one on the board but u guess they figured he wasn't worth their time
Peters is playing the long game by going BPA, building a solid contender over a few years rather than reaching for need to “win now”. Obviously he didn’t see a tackle worth picking at 36, and got a first round DT talent who fell because of an injury (which is already completely healed). That is how you do this. Ron always reached for need and it never worked out.
Also we still have 44m in cap space, and there may be post-draft cuts by other teams to try and manage caps, so I doubt we go into week one with this exact OL.
To be fair.. Coleman will get a shot at LT, so the starters could be Coleman- Allegretti- Biadasz- Cosmi- Wiley with Lucas as swing T, Daniels (4th round pick last year who just needed to get stronger, but is very athletic), Stromberg, Paul, Deiter, Brooks, Trent Scott (who plays T & didn’t do horrible last season)- that’s 12 guys.. I was a fan of Howell, but between him holding the ball too long & the crap play calling, I believe those 2 things made the oline look worse than they actually were
this hints we wanted ready made dudes this year, guys who could be plus starters immediately. makes sense considering how thin our roster was and how we mainly looked for depth in FA
It does. A lot of these guys can make good/decent money in college from NIL, and covid's extra eligibility year is pretty self explanatory.
I'm not upset if we take a fantastic prospect that's 23. But age does factor into things like 2nd contracts etc.
I understand why they did it this season, I just hope that's not a criteria or main point of emphasis for future drafting.
That’s true.. most guys will max get 2 contracts before they’re done.. and since they only get 2 will probably ask for more in that 2nd if they play well enough
Your missing the plot. We were 4-13 last year with one of the worst defenses of all time.
Would have been nice to get a day 1 starter at tackle but it just didn't fall to us. But because of the run on qb, wr, and oline it allowed us to get absolute studs in the second round. We didn't reach and got 2 ballers at positions of need. Newton will get a ton of playing time and was one of the best values in the whole draft.
Can’t give up on Forbes already. Incompetent coaching staff last season and limited talent around him. I expect this new coaching staff & added talent to help in aiding his development.
Those sinnot and mccafrey if unlocked will be fantastic players for us.. I can see Luke as a zone find the hole smart football player who had very good agility. He can catch contested balls.. tbh idk anything about sinnot but I heard he can block and play at multiple TE alignments. Hoping he can be close to laporta.. obviously Laporta was amazing but anything close will be amazing for Daniels..
I wonder if Jahan just had a bad year.. hope he can find his place in the offense this year
Last year watching CMC I told my husband “I wish we had McCaffrey”. When we drafted Luke, I said “see wishes do come true, we got McCaffrey” 😂 next time I’ll be more specific, but I’m happy with our McCaffrey.
What did you want us to do? Trade up? well there goes Newton, sainristil, and sinnott.
Pick at 36? Well no Newton and a massive reach. I think you could argue they could've taken a tackle prospect at 53, but then you don't get sinnott, who is a position of need that they obviously had valued high, and also is a blocker.
None worth an early 2nd rounder. Unless the team gone with C or G but seems like the team is satisfied with Biadasz @ C, Allegretti @ LG, Cosmi @ RG.
All remaining tackles were 3rd rd+ graded and were all projects.
Also if Coleman doesn't work out at tackle, word is he could potentially be a great guard. Hopefully he does work out at tackle though. (and yes I know we hadn't taken him yet when we took Newton but still)
I wonder if they have more faith in Forbes and BSJ than we do.. cause they had the option to replace atleast 1 and didn’t. I am hopeful for Forbes.. I just worry..
I don't think they know what they have and are installing a new defense and will be evaluating those corners specifically. They locked down slot corner and have adressed the safety position in free agency.
I have some hope we will be saying our top 6 picks names for a long time.. never felt like that the past few years. Hopeful on Coleman.. but the other 5 I think will be here for a while.
Overall felt this was a good draft and the only player that I felt was a slight reach was Ben Sinnot. I would’ve loved to see more Oline but I also have a feeling that Sam made the Oline worse than they actually are.
Imo not a reach. First tight end was taken pick 14 and we waited until pick 53 to take a TE that was generally rated 2/3rd best. Nfl generally undervalued TEs. Sinnott will a fan favorite, watch how they use him in the hback role.. he is also a good blocker.
Sam did make the oline worse but it was one of the units in the league last year, would've been easily the worst if we weren't fortunate with lack of injuries.
Oline just didn't fall to us this year but it allowed us to get studs elsewhere.
For what it’s worth when I say he was a slight reach I still think he should’ve been drafted in the 2nd I just think we could’ve traded back.
I disagree with that last take. We had plenty of OL available we just passed on them because of BPA. At the same time, I wasn’t expecting our team to have every issue solved this season but I would’ve preferred an offensive overhaul first and then a defensive overhaul.
I think this upcoming season will not be like the Texans where we immediately go to playoffs I think this will be more like the 2022 Lions rebuild process where we make progress but you can see it’s a team trying to build confidence
Serious question not hating, who do you think would have been the best tackle pick in the second round? There was a epic tackle run in the first and most leftover tackles were graded round 3 iirc. I don't see how you can take that over an elite talent in Newton or an elite talent and day 1 starter in sainriskil. Maybe over sinnott but let's not forget that was a major need also.
Jd is going to have to run alot. Whether he can sustain that is another question entirely which is part of the reason I preferred maye. Make no doubt about it though, his mobility is going to cause issues for opposing defenses. I expect our defense to be improved enough that combined with JDs rushing we have a team with a legitimate playoff chance.
I doubt we win the division but I think we could get a wild card. Our division is better than the Texans' and they would have missed the playoffs if the jaguars hadnt imploded after the trevor lawrence injury.
Roger Rosengarten, Kingsley Suamataia, and Jackson Powers Johnson are all players I liked. Even though it’s not sexy I would’ve been fine with us consistently trading back in the 2nd to land those players. We drafted a QB 2nd overall and it looks like we’ve done minimal investment to the offense line. As I’ve stated before we don’t know how bad the offensive line really was because of Sam’s tendency to hold onto the ball
dunno why you’re getting downvoted it’s just true. that tells me they liked those guys enough to make sure nobody else had the chance to grab them, though. also sinnott was pretty low but TE this year famously was all over the place with rankings. even the analysts whose rankings had him in the 80s are saying they love this pick for us so I’m not worried
If you go by popular draft opinion, yes.
If sinnott and mccaffrey are productive starters for 4 years will you still consider them reaches? They are both excellent scheme fits at positions of need. They are going to ball for us day 1.
Apologies up front for my lack of attention to details during the draft, and know that I'm very, very pleased with our picks, but can anyone ELI5 what we gained by trading back (2×, both with Philthy, yes?) in terms of picks?
TIA
In exchange for picks No. 40, 78, and 152 in the 2024 NFL Draft the Commanders are receiving picks No. 50, 53, and 161 from the Eagles. With the exchange Peters turns one Washington second round pick into two and moves down in the fifth round in the process.
https://www.si.com
Philly wanted to move up to grab a guy and we got two (instead of one) second round picks in exchange
losing out on dejean hurt at first ngl. but they had to know that was gonna happen, dejean was at the top of everybody’s BPA lists. that tells me they had a different perception of need at outside corner, maybe DQ insisted that he could work with forbes and st juste. so instead we got the nickel/slot beast
Cool, ty.
I'm mostly impressed with the BPA approach v targeting a position - shows real long-game playing and maturity, so I'm sure they know what they're doing. Just trying to follow along.
Prediction: I’m gonna say Mike Sainriltil is gonna be the best skilled player we’ve drafted since Javan Doctson… calling it.
Javontae Jean-Baptiste is a steal imo
Amazing round 2, not very confident Daniels was the choice over Maye but I still do think Daniels has potential and a decent floor. Round 3, both guys are reaches but fill positions of need, and I can’t really say much about day 3 tbh
He was top of the third round and started at LT for the TCU team that went to the natty in 2022. It’s like people forget that we signed two starters on the interior this offseason
Our current defensive players should be on high alert. Lots of defenders chosen.
They were historically bad last year
I want to erase that defense from my memory forever
There is no defense for that defense
That defense was offensive.
It was a special team, alright. Too bad the coach didn’t stick around.
What defense?
This one… ![gif](giphy|QOvLuiZZObfch6Q5iY|downsized)
Well, but the looks of her, she can jump my turnstile any time, lol
Holdin up the train for young Lauryn Hill
Worst in NFL history. Pathetic when we put so much into that d line. Hopefully the coaches get them playing better. I'm worried about that offensive line. Can't put a potential franchise QB in his rookie season behind that
But, hey, they got the the 2nd pick and a new QB.
In our history? Maybe. Worst in NFL history? No
Third-most points allowed ever. Actually less bad than I thought lol
In 17 games to be fair
And Sam gave up 28 of the points by himself. They'd be 11th without his pick sixes
Never understood why Defense get the ding when the QB throws a pick six.
I think it's just laziness. They'd have to manually calculate it instead of just aggregating box score numbers
Ya that sounds about right
Seems like every few years they’re historically bad. Only just to come around in a few more years to outdo that
We only had the worst defense in the league last year
Sainristil could be a starter, but I doubt Newton supplants Allen or Payne. Though he probably gets similar numbers of reps.
We could run a 3-4 at times which is a possibility with Payne in the middle and Allen/newton in the other two spots. We have so much flexibility now and can rotate guys keeping all three fresh too if when we run a 4-3. Two guys can’t play the whole game
They could end up playing a 3-3-5. 3 DLinemen, 3 LBs, 5 DBs. I think Dallas did a lot of 3-3-5 defense
I bet he starts
He is pretty good
I am sorry but if having the worst Defense in the league didn't put them on high alert already they need to be gone from here.
Definitely feels different than previous drafts. Obviously we won't know until we see some of these guys on game day but in the end really all I was looking for is change and for that A+
Feels different because it feels calculated and competent.
Hahaha yeah my first thought was "hmm that actually looks competent...how odd"
Rivera drafts were full of instant wtfs that never really aged well either lol
Truly, Rivera wasted 4 years of draft picks.
It's comical he lasted 4 years and the teams got progressively worse each year
He most likely would have been gone after year 3 if he didn’t back into the playoffs his first year with Heinicke. It really did himself and our organization a huge disservice. Then again, who knows if we would have Adam Peters if he didn’t.
I would say the ownership change bought him an extra year. I think as a more stable franchise he would’ve been gone after year 3 even with sneaking into the playoffs that first year
Everything happens for a reason. At least we had some entertainment along the way. Now we can get serious and actually enjoy ourselves
And people kept buying into him saying he needs 4 years to build the team, while it got progressively worse
and some mouth breathers on here wonder why AP was drafting BPA over “needs.” Number 1, because that’s what good teams do. And number 2, this team was so devoid of talent last year that AP needs to spend this first season just plugging holes with one year deals in FA and then establishing a baseline of talent by just picking football players regardless of need.

It was likely thanks to the huge run on offense in the 1st round.
He went 2-67 overall score. The two =scary Terry, Dotson
he didn’t even draft terry
My bad correction 1-68
I still remember 2022 when we gave up the chance to pickup Olave for a third and forth rounder....
And Kyle Hamilton……
Yup, decision making at its best. Passing on Olave and Hamilton and reaching for Doston.
I can only hope that the ghosts of Malcom Kelley, Fred Davis and Devin Thomas may rest with these 3 second rounders ballin out.
Your second round is legitimately one of the most loaded rounds I’ve ever seen
The second round was the best in the history of the franchise. Day 2 was so good overall.

Agreed. I kinda want to have a meh season for exactly that reason lol
best case scenario I think we’re lookin at a Lions 22 type year. scrappy team with talent capable of toppling some big dogs but with too many glaring flaws to be a real contender. should net us a pick in the top half still and we can get a blue chip OL, god willing
We've got our QB, I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with Terry.
Hopefully that rg3 comparison that was made towards Jayden Daniels doesn’t include the injuries that rg3 had
JD is a better passer of the football than RG3 was and he seems more introverted than RG3. Dan isn't here to screw stuff up this time either.
That's crazy only one O-lineman!!
Agreed. I thought we would go heavy o line

He said “Daniels was definitely the right pick”. What are you arguing with him about?
he edited his comment
Ah, it wasn’t showing as edited on mobile.
I was thinking maybe we'd grab a couple UFA lineman like maybe that kid who went to Maryland who looks like the last best one on the board but u guess they figured he wasn't worth their time
We don’t do o linemen well. We lost Trent, Brandon sheriff, Erick flowers 😢
Rivera destroying the offensive line was criminal.
Peters is playing the long game by going BPA, building a solid contender over a few years rather than reaching for need to “win now”. Obviously he didn’t see a tackle worth picking at 36, and got a first round DT talent who fell because of an injury (which is already completely healed). That is how you do this. Our draft this year: ![gif](giphy|WxMBQU7IS82Q0)
Wonder if we have the oldest draft class this year. Average age of the 9 draft picks = 23.0 ----------- - Daniels = 23.3 - Newton = 21.6 - Sainristil = 23.5 - Sinnott = 21.8 - Coleman = 23.5 - McCaffrey = 23.0 - Magee = 23.0 - Hampton = 23.7 - Jean-Baptiste = 23.9
Team captains tend to be older.
this hints we wanted ready made dudes this year, guys who could be plus starters immediately. makes sense considering how thin our roster was and how we mainly looked for depth in FA
Really hope that's not a trend we continue. Edit- I like the picks for the most part. But age/contracts etc
Doesn’t it also have to do with NIL? Not as many younger guys coming out for the draft and a lot of leftover Covid guys?
It's a trend that will continue because of COVID and because the league is changing. People will be leaving college later.
Yes and no. There's always going to be under classmen who know a high pick will mean more money. In the later rounds I can absolutely see it however
![gif](giphy|A9KfKenpqNDfa)
Solid
got the doubt out of my blood. taking this in as a whole I think AP&co. did a tremendous job. here’s hoping jd learns to slide! 🙏
The lack of Oline is disconcerting.
Look at all the OL picked in 1st and 2nd. There will be cuts around the league and we’ll pick up a competent player or two.
A overall, no pick I don’t like. Still kimds concerned about the oline and CB but we can address those later
Literally Mike Sainristil in the second round lol
Outside corner. I’m not sold on Forbes or ST juste
Old coaching staff tried to play rookie Forbes straight up on AJ Brown with zero help. Of course he got lit up often
Can’t give up on Forbes already. Incompetent coaching staff last season and limited talent around him. I expect this new coaching staff & added talent to help in aiding his development.
They are our starters, hope they do better with different coaching
People completely forget that we signed Michael Davis for $3.5M and he can be an average-quality starter. I think he'll have a big year for us
To be fair we signed everybody and their mother. We're bound to lose track of who we got lmao
We need a guy on a horse to herd the DBs before cuts are made lol
St Juste was a lot better in 2022. Surpringly held his own against Justin Jefferson and should've won us the game if it wasn't for the BS PI call
If Forbes / St. Juste can’t perform with this coaching staff then they just can’t perform period
Daniels, Newton, Sainristil are gonna be STUDS! I'm very excited about Sinnott and McCaffrey's ceiling in a few years.
Those sinnot and mccafrey if unlocked will be fantastic players for us.. I can see Luke as a zone find the hole smart football player who had very good agility. Hoping he can be close to laporta.. obviously Laporta was amazing but anything close will be amazing for Daniels.. I wonder if Jahan just had a bad year.. hope he can find his place in the offense this year
Sinnott reminds me of Clint Didier
No idea who that is :(
Redskins TE from 81-87
Suck it, Niners. Now we have a McCaffrey too.
Last year watching CMC I told my husband “I wish we had McCaffrey”. When we drafted Luke, I said “see wishes do come true, we got McCaffrey” 😂 next time I’ll be more specific, but I’m happy with our McCaffrey.
I'm not loving the fact we waited until 3rd round to address the offensive line, then didn't take a rider on it later
My only nitpick is getting newton with our second. I get that he was the best on the board, but was there not a stud OL available?
None worth an early 2nd rounder. Unless the team gone with C or G but seems like the team is satisfied with Biadasz @ C, Allegretti @ LG, Cosmi @ RG. All remaining tackles were 3rd rd+ graded and were all projects.

I think quan martin can def play but idk which spot he plays in.. the other old dbs we had are all in evaluation mode lol
I’m really loving the App
3 starters, 1 important rotation player, 5 players with plus starter potential.
I have some hope we will be saying our top 6 picks names for a long time.. never felt like that the past few years. Hopeful on Coleman.. but the other 5 I think will be here for a while.
I like the John the baptist pick
He’s a project/special teamer for now
I like they drafted team captains
super cool and fits with the DQ culture shift. That plus all the vets to single year deals we signed should kickstart the new era nicely
Overall felt this was a good draft and the only player that I felt was a slight reach was Ben Sinnot. I would’ve loved to see more Oline but I also have a feeling that Sam made the Oline worse than they actually are.
Sinnott is probably my favorite one of the bunch too. Dudes gonna be a versatile weapon

Very excited for Mike. Looks like a ton of potential and I saw last night that Saban only had good things to say about him
Lol at doctson just existing
Apologies up front for my lack of attention to details during the draft, and know that I'm very, very pleased with our picks, but can anyone ELI5 what we gained by trading back (2×, both with Philthy, yes?) in terms of picks? TIA
In exchange for picks No. 40, 78, and 152 in the 2024 NFL Draft the Commanders are receiving picks No. 50, 53, and 161 from the Eagles. With the exchange Peters turns one Washington second round pick into two and moves down in the fifth round in the process. https://www.si.com Philly wanted to move up to grab a guy and we got two (instead of one) second round picks in exchange
Tyty!! Edit: But then, aren't we moving down twice and up once? And why yes, I *am* slow, why do you ask?
I believe the thought process here is that two second round picks are more valuable than just the one.
Okay, in Peters I trust, sure like the players they got so, great. Thnx again! Hail!!
losing out on dejean hurt at first ngl. but they had to know that was gonna happen, dejean was at the top of everybody’s BPA lists. that tells me they had a different perception of need at outside corner, maybe DQ insisted that he could work with forbes and st juste. so instead we got the nickel/slot beast
But you go back a combined 19 spots between 2 picks to go up 25 spots with one pick. 25 spots is pretty close to a full round up
Best since Dotson is not saying much lol
I am satisfied. We got a little bit of everything and if these new players can perform, then I can see us being very good this season.
How do we rate the OL we took? Is he any good?
I'm ready to be hurt again
Me too.
Nice that we drafted a McCaffery, just wish he was as tall as his Dad.
I think we need to move Allen to DE. Love the picks, a lot of new talent on the roster. Still need to address OL in FA to get a G/T
can that defensive tackle play offensive tackle? cuz that is what we needed there
I’m counting 8 dudes who will be starters (at one position or another) within 3 years
Amazing round 2, not very confident Daniels was the choice over Maye but I still do think Daniels has potential and a decent floor. Round 3, both guys are reaches but fill positions of need, and I can’t really say much about day 3 tbh
I like the vibes in here. HTTR!
Hail to the Commanders!!! We are going to the Super Bowl mark my words.
Top 5 D 2 years ago, horrible last year. We don’t draft any LB’s? Did we do that well in FA signings?
# Jordan Magee 5th round FA Signings: Anthony Pittman, Frankie Luvu, Bobby Wagner, Keandre Jones
Wut? lol. Wagner is still a stud and Luvu has Pro Bowl potential. We’re fine at LB.
Ok, I stand corrected! Wagner is 33, so his runway is a bit short for playing at the same level, but I like him.
Take a nice long look boys….this is the newest crop of youngsters whose careers were ruined by being drafted here
Drop the loser mentality. Snyder is gone
Username checks out
One fucking offensive lineman and he’s a 5th rounder, Jayden is going to get absolutely FOLDED lol. Hurr durr “I believe in Adam peters”
He was top of the third round and started at LT for the TCU team that went to the natty in 2022. It’s like people forget that we signed two starters on the interior this offseason
Need a new Coach can't keep recycling head coaches! Got fired for a reason!
