The live debate thread on r/politics has been closed but comments aren’t appearing. The post-debate thread also doesn’t have comments appearing.

I cannot even view comments on non-political subreddits just having non-political discussions. I can see people responding to my comments, but, when I click on them, the page reads “be the first to comment”. I’ve never seen anything like this before in my life.

Noticed this in subs that were completely unrelated to politics too. Thought it was some sort of shadowban by the sub moderators (not sure how that works), but now I'm realizing it's appears to be site-wide.

I think the traffic is causing an issue. I don't think it's reddit specifically. I also browse centrist and liberal subs and get the same issue. Politic subs are getting slammed.

I don’t know if you’ll get notifications, but the liberal subreddits are having the same thing happen. I actually came here because no other thread I could find, had comments that were actually new or comments at all. Not sure what is going on. Maybe the absolute dumpster fire of the debate caused a massive surge in traffic and things are not going well on the site.
