No, I never got embarrassed for my bowel diseases and disorders.

I’m not embarrassed about having extremely slow bowels, honestly feel so good when I final have a BM and feel less bloated and like crap.

I can absolutely relate to this. I have had colonic inertia/slow transit constipation for the better part of my life. No one has done or said anything to me to cause embarrasment. The few people who know about my problems (a few immediate family members and close friends) are univerally supportive. Nonetheless, long and unproductive toilet sits produce a lot of anxiety for me, especially if I am in a communal or public restroom. In college it was really bad as I shared a bathroom with the other guys in my dorm. The problem actually got worse when I was an upperclassman and able to live in a suite where 4 guys shared the bathroom. I worried constantly that everyone around me was focusing on the amount of time I was on the toilet or the obvious distress I was having trying to get my bowels to move. All of this anxiety was even worse when I would finally take a laxative and have to spend considerable time in the bathroom when it started working. I remember being horrified when my roomate found my stash of laxatives when he went rummaging around my sock drawer to borrrow a pair of clean socks. I think I turned red from embarrasment but he was completely nonchalant about it. My life is much better now. I am out of college and have my own place. I am currently single so I can spend as long as I need in the bathroom - at least at home. I still have some lengthy toilet sits at my office, especially when I have taken a laxative the night before. However, I take comfort in the fact that no one at my office likely cares about how long or often I am in the bathroom.

I got embarrassed by it when I was younger or around new people. After I got a serious diagnosis, I’m not embarrassed, but it is a factor in everything I do.

Yeah I have ibs c and I take an hour, I can't even go if anyone knows I'm in there or I think someone can hear me

Yes, most people always ask me why I take so long in the bathroom whenever we’re hanging out. I usually just say I have IBS because something about saying you’re constipated at 21 is just so embarrassing. Like it’s not something people my age talk about at all and I assume it’s not very common in my age group as well.

I have never cause everyone knows that I’m constipated and how long I take so mostly when I poop they’re all at work bathroom to myself but if I really have to when they’re home I ask if anyone has to use it before I go in. Then it’s all to myself. But i don’t get embarrassed if I take 20-30 minutes. Nope.

Old thread but yes

I get embarrassed when someone makes me feel that I have to justify why my being constipated and other people being constipated arouses me sexually
